What's Your Goal For 2015 Season? 2024

fishing user avatarjjconnaire reply :

What's everyones goal(s) for 2015? Learn a new technique? Catch a lunker (isn't this everyones?), learn a body of water? Etc....

My goal is to use my entire arsenal of new rods and not stay fixated on one bait. I also really want to master my new shimano curado 201I and falcon bucoo set up. This is my first casting setup, so I need to practice.

I also want to learn my lake and where the fish are at certain times of the year.

fishing user avatarfisherrw reply :

Sounds about right...

fishing user avatar*Hank reply :

I`m hoping to catch a new PB  preferably 4lbs or over  :eyebrows:

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

Realistically, I would like to catch a creek smallie bigger than 4 lbs, fix my boat, and get better at rod building.

fishing user avatarjusthere reply :

This year I want to get better fishing with jigs, get good enough with a casting setup to throw it at night without nesting it up really bad, and catch a few more fish than last year.

fishing user avatarDuster7466 reply :

My goal this year is to catch a smallmouth from Torch Lake. One of the finest smallmouth fisheries in the state of Michigan (so I've heard). I have lived within 5 minutes of this lake for more than 15 years. I've fished this lake a dozen times with no luck at all. Instead I drive over an hour to fish Grand Traverse bay. I consider this lake to be my nemesis. This is my year. This year I will win. :respect-059:

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Already have a 4.5 pound smallie to my name this year. Considering our state record is only 2 pounds heavier than that, it's a pretty good start :)

fishing user avatarSam reply :

My goal for 2014 is to live to see 2015.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Then my goal for 2015 is to live to see 2016.

So far I am batting 50%.

fishing user avatarchrisdm4 reply :

Working on my jerk bait and tubes.  I have done ok but do not have the confidence that i know i should have when smallie fishing.  Really it would have to be work on everything.  Just become a better fisherman.  Only been fishing for 2 years now so i learn so much every time am on the water.  So main goal.....get on the water at least 3 days a week after work!

Fly fishing:

I really want to work on my streamer in these small streams that i fish.  I do a lot of nymphing for bass right now.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

There is a quite a bit of fertile fishable water all around me.  It's hard to really fish it all thoroughly.

Each season, I pick 4 or 5 and really fish them hard leaving the others to "rest" sort of speak.

Last season one of the smaller lakes I'd not been on for 2 years gave up many quality LMB and several Citation size Brown bass - I was a little surprised and very happy.

The past few years I have stayed off the largest lake in the area.  And I've never even fished the most southern section of it.  I've done well on it in the past but it's often very busy with anglers & recreational users.  This season I'm going back and will focus much of my efforts early & late (at night too) in the day, especially on the area south that I've not fished.

Did some map homework on the lake over the winter here and have several "Starting Points" already punched in.    Looking forward to fishing this old but sort of new water again.

A-Jay

fishing user avatarCovurt reply :

Catch a smallmouth, enter a tournament, and a 4+ pounder.

fishing user avatarHanover_Yakker reply :

1. Have fun

2. Improve as a kayak angler

3. Take my son as often as possible (weather permitting)

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

1 - Improve as a kayak angler (Hanover read my mind).  Going into year 2 of it.

2 - Learn the carolina rig.  I love the Mojo ... never caught on a Carolina Rig.

3 - Improve my flip n pitch ... Got a good start with my Toledo Bend trip.

fishing user avatarMichiganBass80 reply :

Catch a 4+ pounder. We (my dad and me) have never fished Erie, we are hoping to get down there at least once.  Other than that, fish as much as I can and have fun doing it.

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

Since this is the Smallmouth forum, I'm going to try to catch a couple this year since I don't belive I've caught one before.  Other than that, my 2015 goals are to concentrate on learning three new waters I fished semi-frequently last year and just practice with my baitcasters to improve accuracy.

Mission accomplished - congratulations.

fishing user avatarMumbly reply :

My main goal is to get my 84yo Father out as many times as he can tolerate without pushing him too much. Secondary goal is to fish lakes I haven't fished before.

fishing user avatarKevO reply :

Catch a 5+.  Got 8 over 4 so far.

fishing user avatarSteveo-1969 reply :

Pretty simple goal for me this year:  just get out fishing as much as I can.

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

My goal is to break 8lbs. I hope I respond well to the pressure. My other smallmouth goals are to help the guys I enjoy fishing with the most get some PB's as well. I'm sure we will all have fun trying.

Yeah. That's more of a life goal for me, and it probably won't be in this state seeing as how our record is 7 lbs 5 oz. I'd love to fish Lake Erie one day, another life goal.
fishing user avatarWill Wetline reply :

I know there are 7 lb. smallmouth swimming in Quabbin Reservoir . . . If it's not asking too much I'd like to catch one on one of the jigs or blade baits I've made.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

#1 don't break anything expensive

#2 don't fall in the lake again

#3 get my kids out fishing

fishing user avatarKyAngler_1120 reply :

I would love to catch a new personal best...my current PB is 16inch and around 3lbs.

fishing user avatarjitterbug127 reply :

Find the fish. Been out 10x not a bite

fishing user avatarBig Al23 reply :

My goal this year is to fish more and hope to break into the 7lb club

fishing user avatarS Hovanec reply :

2 goals.

1. Become familiar with spybaiting.

2. Catch a 7# smallie.

fishing user avatarbassinnoobie reply :

Catch 1 fish...................... hopefully

fishing user avatarfrantzracing0 reply :

Id really love to pull in a 6lb small mouth from the susquehanna river. Iv come very close in years past jsut havent broken that 6lb mark

fishing user avatarmrc.in.wi reply :

With lower gas prices, more trips to Sturgeon Bay.

Also I barely fished jigs last year. Might explain my off year. Going back to them as my staple.

Learn hollow swimbaits and bladed jigs.

fishing user avatarHurricane reply :

To enjoy another great summer of fishing and teaching my 2 boys how to fish...but my ten year old daughter already knows..

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

My smallie goal for the year is to break my pb. I've got a pretty decent shot at it I think since I'll be out on Sturgeon Bay/Green Bay for close to a week.

fishing user avatarJoePhish reply :

I've recently moved from South Florida to East Tennessee. While in FL I targeted and consistently caught LMB in freshwater.  Here in TN I want to do the same but with SMB.That is my main goal of the year.  I have had a hard time of it so far. In my handful of excursions so far I've caught LMB, Spotted Bass, Crappie, White Bass, Striped Bass and Black Drum as well as a snagged Carp that took me for a Nantucket Sleigh-ride....but no Smallies.

I know I need to start thinking like a Smallmouth in order to catch them.  Right now I'm reading In-Fisherman's book on Smallmouth. Their book on LMB helped me immensely so I hope this one will do the same.

This year I also decided to become a kayak fisherman. Figured with no gators or sharks it's safe now. (Go ahead call me a wuss, lol.)

My other goal is to become skilled and knowledgable at what it takes to become a proficient kayak fisherman. So far this is progressing fine though this week the Tennessee River plus a bunch of wind kicked my butt a bit.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

6lber.

Spybait more.

I'm going to do both

5lb Smalliie, learn and adapt to better day to day patterns that change from weather throughout the day.

fishing user avatarckylec reply :

I would like to become A LOT more versatile.

Right now, If I can't catch it on a texasrig/shaky head or a spinner bait, I ain't catching it.

I'd like to become a lot more familiar with my two home lakes.
