Can anyone give me a definitive place or suggestion for TROPHY brown trout fishing. I want a 10+lb brown. Thinking this is next on my bucket list!
Jeff

Uh huh. Lake and tribs.
Any southeastern Wisconsin Lake Michigan harbor from now until spring. No better chance to catch 10-20lb browns.
EDIT Sent you a PM

OK, well put me on em!!!!!

Open seat, and lodging. Anytime.
Dang i need to drive up north.....any of those browns available either via kayak or wading? I am assuming they can be caught on the fly as well without chucking some sinking line all day as that can get pretty boring and tiring....
The first one was caught wading a small trib. I used an egg pattern fly, under a float rig with a centrepin, but a traditional floating line with a fluoro tippet would work too. The second is from close in shore, in 4-8' of water, and is easily accessible from a kayak. In fact.....
OK, well I dont know about fly fishing at all. I want to catch one on spinning outfit. I'm sure you can help a brother out right?
Jeff
The browns and steelies up on Ontario get nice and chunky, if they are biting then a 10 pounder isn't uncommon. My technique includes a spinning combo with braid and a 3/4 oz spoon, chucked as far as possible and reeled in as fast as i possibly can. Give it a pause every once in a while and hold on!!

Out in the lake, any bass gear will do. In the creeks, there are special tributary rules, but a spinning outfit will work.
What time of the year is optimal? Might need to plan this one out.
Jeff
From a boat, or kayak in the lake, September - November. Wading creeks, November - April.
Hey J how about early spring lake shore? Have you ever got on that bite?

for the lake, Sept- nov as Jfranco said, but my best time is usually mid october.
As for the spring, you can catch them from shore close to creek mouths

Yep, but it's a short window as the lake warms quickly. Love hitting the piers in April. That's actually how I caught my PB brown. I haven't been doing it as much, found some shallow lakes where green fish wake up early.
I haven't ever been to the Great Lakes but after watching Ike and Zona both do shows catching some pigs fishing in harbors on jigs and jerkbaits I'd say that looked to be about as close to a sure thing as you could get with a fish like that if you are there at the right time and with someone who knows what they're doing.
The tribs are great as also mentioned. The two I have listed under my name are great I seen some where the oak was rated like 4th best trout destination in north America. In the fall and spring it's not uncommon to see 100 plus vehicals parked to fish the dam of oak orchard I think the farthest Iv met some one from there was a group of guys from Arizona made the trip. Johnsons is just as good but over shadowed by the oak but there less then 4 miles apart in many spots.
00 mod, They're hitting jigs with white Gulp or white tubes 15-25' down in 35 fow outside Milwaukee as we speak.
If I could pack up and go I would. But I'm stuck at work on a holiday week

Those of us who fish Lake Ontario and its tributaries know that you don't go into a tackle shop and brag about a 10 lb. brown unless you want to get laughed at - braggin' rights start about 15 lbs. and these monsters get even bigger. The one in the photo above was merely a "good" fish at 12 lbs.
I use a Stradic 4000 filled with Berkley 8 lb. Sensation and either a St. Croix 10' 6" noodle rod or, new to me this year, a TFO 9' 6" lite power medium action steelhead rod. I used to offer these fish egg sacs (which are cured salmon eggs in a mesh bag), but in recent years have been successful with egg pattern flies.
The ultimate in freshwater excitement is standing in a river casting to these fish - and especially steelhead. Take J Francho up on his offer or hire a guide. Jeff, Go to New York.
Oh man! That is what I am talking about! I am going to take J up on his offer! No doubt!

Tasmania.
If $ no object, Patagonia or south island of New Zealand, my brother is a guide down there. He's fished all over the world these are his favorites. If you want really crazy and hard to catch Browns, then sea-run Browns in Iceland or Argentina, mean mean trout.
If you are interested PM me I'll get you in touch with him.
