Everyone, let's congratulate CJ as he is the June '08 BR Elite member of the month!!!
CJ was along for the Guntersville trip and from what I've been told, he was a huge help to quite few anglers, not just putting them on fish but teaching them how to find fish for themselves.
Chris is always a big help to folks on the board and just a well rounded BR member. We sure are proud to have this fish catching machine with us and I personally am looking forward to meeting him next year on his home lake at the 4th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip to Kentucky Lake, Montana (board Joke) Kentucky.
On behalf of the staff, let me be the first to say "thanks" for being a stand up member.
[move]Congrats CJ!!![/move]

Essay:
I grew up near the Clarks river bottoms in western Kentucky. Spent most of my time in the woods hunting or fishing the river or farm ponds near by and getting to go out on Ky Lake with my dad and grandfather too. I started working in tobacco and on a vegetable farm at a young age. My grandfather was my mentor who taught me that hard, honest work was the only way of life.
At the age of 18, I dropped out of high school and started working in construction. I also went through many phases with my past times but I always seemed to find time to put a rod and reel in my hands. I started breaking quarter horses and then started bull riding on the professional circuit by the time I was 20. That's when I met a girl from a small town in Missouri that became the love of my life (seemed she had a thing for little cocky cowboys). A few years later we were married and had started a family. My bull riding career was over. I couldn't provide for my family by getting my guts stomped out! It was back on the roofs for me.
I still rode my horses some but there was this love for bass fishing that still burned deep down. In 2003 my grandmother passed away. My grandfather took it pretty hard. I had made mention to him that getting another boat and putting in some time on the water would be good for him. He went and bought a new boat and we did just that. I started getting into bass fishing more than ever. A lot of people who know me will tell you, when I set out to do something I give it all I got. I went out and bought my own 14 ft. jon boat. I learned a lot in that little boat.
In 2005 my competitive spirit got the best of me. I wanted to learn more about Ky. Lake so I decided to start fishing the BFL as a co-angler. The first tournament I ever fished, I caught my personal best at 7 lbs. even and got third place cashing in over $900. A couple tournaments later and I catch my next two biggest fish at 6 lbs and 6 lbs. 14 oz. and get my first tournament win with 19 lbs. 1 oz. Not only was I hooked, I had learned a lot really quick. The ability to feel the bite and set the hook had already been welded in my hands from those summer evening on the river and at the ponds, thanks to my dad. I had been shown and given the confidence to fish offshore from some of the best on Ky. Lake. All the meanwhile, I was digging every bit of info from books and then I found this place on my dad's computer called Bass Resource to which I owe a lot of my bass fishing knowledge to! A couple a years later and I have won around $30,000 dollars in cash and prizes. My partner and I winning a new boat in 2007 makes up for most of that.
So now here I still am. Still learning and living life the best I can. I love spending time with my family most of all. My boys are starting to get that age to where they fish with me. My wife has took up the tradition as well. It doesn't get much better than this!
Thanks Bass Resource for letting me be part of this family!

I wasn't at the Guntersville trip but it seems like you were a great contributor there. It's awesome to have guys like these aboard this forum who are willing to help in any way they can. I know everything I learn here on the forum or through another member makes a huge impact on my fishing.
Seems like a great pick guys. Keep up the good work CJ and good luck in any future tourneys you enter.

I know helping me learn to fish can be frustrating at times, but I wanted to let you know how much I do appreciate and respect all you do for me. This honor couldn't go out to a more deserving man than you. Keep up the good work!
