strike king red eye shad 2025

fishing user avatarLoomis24 reply :

I finally broke down and bought some strike king red eye shad lipless crankbaits. I have heard a lot about them and BPS had them on sale so i decided to pick some up. I was wondering if these are going to live up to the hype that surrounds them. I realize depends on the colors and conditions which by the way i bought the sexy blue black herring and the sexy ghost minnow to try for now. Just looking for someone to give me some feedback for those who have used them.

fishing user avatarMr SwimJig reply :

They are great baits and they do produce.  Also there is really no wrong way to fish them.  This is a great time of year to be using them as well.

SJ

fishing user avatarVinny Chase reply :

They are a good bait, but not a great bait....IMO there are better options out there like the aruka shad, rat-l-trap, rattlin vibe, but you will be happy with them

fishing user avatarGrizzerGreen reply :

Change the hooks out on them.

They are very sharp but I found they bend very easily.

Just my 2 cents.

But other than that, its a great lure and has put A LOT of fish in my boat.  :(

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Just one of many decent baits that are out there , not a miracle bait  , if that's what your looking for.

Its a great lipless crankbait. Great action, tournament proven, affordable price, and tons of colors. Doesn't get any better than that.

You pretty much said it all right there.

Seriously though, they're a decent lipless.  I fish three kinds; Spots, Ratl Traps, and Red Eyes.  All three fish a little different and all three have earned their place.

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

Very good bait, I have dozens of them.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

i like mine and like said before ... they have their place next to the other brands that you like. i love how they cast and how the fall pretty vertical.... i hate how the paint comes off in two trips. *shrug* id be ticked but my more expensive xcalibur oneknockers all have their eyes missing and i havent used them but a handfull of times and havent caught but maybe one fish on them.

they just dont make things like they used to,

fishing user avatarAndyPlaysDrums reply :

I love the Red Eye Shad! I'm still lamenting the loss of one to a freakin' pickerel last year!

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

I really like the standard 1/2 model.  It has a very enticing wobble on the fall, more so than the 3/4 model.  That's what sets a lipless crank apart from the rest, IMO.  Good price, too.

fishing user avatarsoccplayer07 reply :

very solid bait. deadly in the spring when water temps hit 50*-60*. one of my go to baits.

fishing user avatarDam Yankee reply :

I have been throwin it for a couple years now and always have one one a rod.

The paint doesn't seem to be as durable as others but, maybe thats because I throw it more than the others. :(

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

best lipless crankbait that i have ever used , fish KILL this bait on the fall . my best retrieve is to throw long casts and then yo-yo the bait letting it fall as much as you can . sexy shad is my favorite color , in second is shore minnow .....  :(

fishing user avatarhookingem reply :

SK red eye shads are really good for the money IMO. Have caught too many fish to count on the sexy shad color.

I have lost two to some pike last year. Same color, orange craw.

I own several and I also have several more on the way from BPS. I like them more than rattle traps, they seem to vibrate more IMO.

My favorite is a 1/2oz gold sexy shad. I have two of them because i know one is gonna get bitten of by a pike some day, and i dont wanna get caught without one  ;D

your missing the best colors= gold sexy shad, baby carp, blugill, gizzard shad, bone dry

Why did you have to mention the Bluegill color ?  :( That one was killer for me last year, I also do very well on the Mojarra color.

Very versatile! Hard to fish it wrong. Awesome colors!

fishing user avatarRiver Rat316 reply :

I don't know about best, I would even have a hard time putting it in the top 5, the one area it does shine is ripping from grass and letting it settle back down in and ripping it, it falls nice and vertical and attracts bites that way, otherwise on a straight retrieve or power fishing there is better baits out there, alot of them.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Most of my trappin' happens in spring, and deflection of the name of the game. This bait just doesn't have the right head shape, and nose down attitude at high speeds as other baits do. If you like yo-yoing in open water, then have at it. Like Pretty much EVERY other vibe bait out there, the finish sticks, and wears out very fast. Hooks are of so-so quality as well.
