fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

I was at Missouri State University. We fish the FLW tournaments and I know I got emails for other tournaments as well. There are a bunch of schools here in Missouri, Missouri State, Mizzou, Truman State, Drury, College of the Ozarks.  All in the FLW.  I know, we (missouri state), truman state, south east Missouri State, and College of the Ozarks all made the regionals.  You could look into those.  Also, go on the FLW college fishing website.

If your interested in engineering, I know a guy who is starting a team at Missouri S&T.  If you have any questions about colleges in Missouri, let me know bud!

get your guys together and head to your school's club president. make a proposal for a fishing club. shouldn't be a problem. then simply get some info from flw or the tour of your choice and sign up. flw gets the most publicity and offers great perks. too bad i go to community college and they don't accept anything other then univerities!

I am going back for my masters in fall after having been out of school for 10 or so years. Obviously I never fished competitively in college, I don't think that the college circuit existed back then. Anyway, since I will be a student again, albeit not an underclassman, will I be eligible to fish? My school has a team, just curious if anyone knows. Thanks!

I read on Collegebass.com that you cannot be older than 25 to compete in the regional/big tournaments. Yet, I saw an older guy fishing for a team on tv the other day. Anyone want to fill me in on this as well?

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

for collegebass u must be under 25 the others dont care

fishing user avatarBig Fish Rice reply :

I am a FLW College Series participant (Western Series) and have had a great time. I fished my very first tournament this year (Lake Shasta) and did very well - my partner and I earned 6th place out of 40 teams.

I have fished my entire life and adjusting to tournament competition wasn't difficult at all. It's addicting and I look forward to the California Delta on May 7th and Clear Lake, California on September 24, 2011.

All in all, overhead costs are pretty much your travel expenses. If you and your teammate can get to the competition, you'll have a pro and a boat waiting for you.

Get some friends together, submit an application at your 4-year university to start a fishing club(there are no age restrictions as long as you are a undergraduate) and go from there. You should have an adviser who will help with the legal aspects. After you have a recognized club at your University, go and register at collegefishing.com

Other than that, message me or reply if you need any advice/help. Our club is a 1st year club so we are familiar with the steps to get started. If you're headed to a school with an established club, get some face time and introduce yourself as soon as possible!

This is a once in a lifetime experience - Best of luck to you!

fishing user avatarlynyrdsky1 reply :

I'm probably going to University of Alabama because the major they offer and will try to fish there, but i saw that they have over 50 people in the club and that everyone has to have a boat. Is this true?

fishing user avatarBig Fish Rice reply :

Lynyrdsky1, a school's fishing club can assign whatever requirements they wish, but most Universities enforce that all students interested be able to join since it is a public school.

I would look into that if I were you. Email the club President and clarify the requirements.

I've emailed the president before but have never gotten a response

Sounds as if you'll have to track them down yourself. You can start by visiting Alabama's Faceboook Athletics page.

If I were you, I would leave a comment on their wall or message anyone that I can find. Tell them you are looking for the fishing club contact! http://www.facebook.com/home.#!/AlabamaAthletics

If this doesn't work, call the school's sports department. Someone should be able to get you in the right direction.

fishing user avatardhami013 reply :

Best advice, choose a school based off of what you think your career plans are, get to that school, get a feel for how hard your classes and adjusting is going to be, then start looking for tournaments.

fishing user avatarbigbassctchr101 reply :

We had an issue with a guy that was in the service then came back. I believe we were able to get him qualified to fish. i believe little rules like this can be tweaked because its a newer sport in college series. So rules are still being set up and bent so that they are better to accomadate other people.
