So I only kayak fish. And love to do it more then boat fishing. Do any of you kayak fish as well? What do you like about it. Do you like it more then boat fishing? I like it because of its more of a challenge and I need my daliy paddle. Ha!
I just got back into fishing 2 years ago after a long absence! My friends got me out on a kayak and i was HOOKED! (pun) I bought a Future Beach 144 last year and it was a good starter Yak and just recently bought a Jackson Cuda LT. Can't wait to get it on the water! I absolutely love it! You can get into so many tight areas, go right through weeds and pads. A boat might be nice for big lakes but I typically hit small ones and the Delaware river a bit....plus I can just throw it on the roof of my car and go!
Now my next addiction is buying gear! I can't stop! ha!
I like Kayak fishing for bass because it's A LOT cheaper. I don't have a good places to launch a bass boat that are very close. I feel like I can launch my kayak and fish for a couple of hours and be fine with it. I can store my kayak in my garage quite easily.
I have 4 brothers, they all have bass boats. They use their boats a few times a year. Three of us also have kayaks. The kayaks get used about 8 times as often as the bass boats.

Yes sir. I like the Jackson cosa. But I have the FeelFree moken 12.5. It's a lot oh fun. Stay safe on the water and good luck.

I agree. It's much cheaper.. But I kinda still am spending to much on kayak gear. But I can get places that bass boats can't get. I like bass boats but I love kayaks!

I like it for the impoundment I fish 80% of the time, which is a small lake fed by what they call a "river", but is in reality just a medium-sized creek. You can't put your own boat into the lake, and the rental traffic in the area I fish is minimal due, in large part, to the fact that boats just can't get into the smaller, narrower areas. I fish the yak (Jackson Cuda 12) on larger water from time-to-time, but for creek / small river fishing, it's the best. I still do some boat fishing, but 90% of the time I'm on the yak. And yes, the paddling is great exercise!
there are quite a few of us on here...

I guess so. Nothing wrong with it. I'm proud to be a yack fishermen!
I've been fishing out of a kayak since 1998 and love it, it's my preferred way to fish for convenience and access to some great bodies of water often overlooked. Now that kayak fishing is getting more popular ( I used to get a lot of strange looks ) I have a little company on the water. I like the tournaments and group outings in my area also. I still enjoy fishing out of my friends bass boats don't get me wrong.
i have been fishing out of a kayak for a long time now. for me it was a cheap way to get started but i quickly realized that it really isn't once you get the itch for different boats for different uses. My last kayak purchase could have gotten me a decent aluminum boat for the electric only lakes i fish around here
I will get a traditional boat at some point though cause it will be easier to take my son out in.

Or get a 2 person kayak. That would be really fun! But boats are nice as well.. It's nice to not always have to paddle.
I have been bass fishing from a kayak since 1991. I would say the number one reason I choose a kayak is the ease of access. With my pickup truck and a kayak cart getting on and off the water is a 3-5 minute process. I got to believe I get as much or more time on the water as anybody with a full time job (there is one retired guy who beats me in that department). Those summertime after work trips are pure gold!
Kayak bass fishing is the best. Like others have said you can get places others can't.

Nice hobie pro angler. I have only fished out of one once.. I wanted one but it's a pain to paddle without the mirage drive.
It is a little tougher topaddle without the mirage drive but I made mine the single paddle and it paddles more like a canoe if I can't use the mirage drive.
Had my first experience kayak fishing back in October and absolutely loved it. Not sure if I enjoy it more than being on a bass boat (hard to be running top speed down lake early in the morning), but the challenge and workout was nothing short of incredible. Also caught my first smallmouth as a result of the trip (picture attached). I haven't been able to stop looking into getting a kayak of my own since the experience. Who knows ... maybe I will sway more towards the yak; only time will tell.
The bass boat and the kayak each have their place. Check out the Hobie lineup when you start looking.
Been fishing out of canoes or Yaks or many years.
Ive owned a bass boat before, and probably will again as my sons get older, but I think Ill always love the simplicity, ease of use, and solace of a kayak.
Im in Norcal and the fishing in my local lakes isn't so hot this time of year. And on snowy cold days I find myself sitting on my kayak in my garage.....counting the days to summer.
I fish out of a Hobie Outback and love it. I also have a bay boat. I fish more out of my kayak. Only reason I have my boat is to take family and friends. A yak has taught me to throughly fish an area. If I find a good spot I will stay and fish 5 different baits in different depths. The next spot could be miles. It's relaxing and sneaking up on fish is pure fun. I actually used my saltwater experience catching a bass one time. Busting bait shallow, I peddled up and sight casted my jig and stuck him. Nothing big- maybe 3lbs but the prettiest bass I have caught. Real nice green and fat white belly.
Is there an advantage of a kayak over a canoe? You can get a outrigger for canoe making it stable to stand-in. Is it just 6 of one, half-dozen of the other?
Canoe have higher sides catch more wind. Harder to maneuver by yourself. If you fish by yourself I feel kayak is a better option. Me and a friend fished in a canoe one day. We didn't talk to one another for 2 days after lol our rowing technique was pitiful lol
I fish out of a kayak as well as owning a boat. Both have their obvious advantages. I enjoy the simplicity of fishing from a kayak along with the stealth factor of it. I'm positive that I catch fish out of it that wouldn't have bit if I'd been in my bass boat.
I enjoy fishing out of my Hobie Revo 13. Being able to pedal & fish is nirvana for me.
I love fishing out of my Hobie Pro Angler. My boat is a pontoon so I can't compare to fishing from a bass boat.
I love my yak for many reasons but the most important; no longer on the shore.

I like the pro angler. Is it the 12 foot? Or the 17? I like the 12 but I like my feel free moken 12.5. But any yack that's fishable is a good thing to have around.

Yup. I do all of bass tornaments around my area as well. Lots of fun. I have meet a lot of great people from kayak fishing.
Cause it was cheaper than a boat, and I wanted to get off the bank. I will get boat in the next couple of years so me and my son can fish together. I do love yak fishing though.
I have both, I use my kayak 10x as much as my boat. BOATs are maintenance warriors while my yak just needs a spray with the washer or hose when done. I can also get into really really tight places with that yak, some places I would be scared to wade in because of the depth of the mud and debris. I had a sun dolphin 10' sit in yak that I made into a nice little fishing rig, but I sold it to my son in law and have been looking at the ascend 128fst or what ever the model number is. If I could find another yak in that price range that has a seat and room like the Ascend I would be interested in looking at it.
If anyone can help me find one with a max price less than 1000 with paddle, I would greatly appreciate the help. I am looking for a sit on this time, I dumped mine in some cold water year before last and I still get cold spells thinking about it.

Keep your eyes open for nice used ones that might pop up. You have to have cash in hand because they don't last long. I bought mine last year (Ocean Kayak Ocean Prowler II). Sells new for 1,300 with nothing, I bought mine lightly used with a nice Carlise paddle for $450. I was fortunate that the guy was willing to wait until the weekend for me to come get it, otherwise it would have been gone before I could get there for sure.

I have a 2015 PA14 so the 14-foot model
I only have a canoe. Don't get me wrong, its a nice canoe, Old Town Osprey. It's just not the same. It doesn't customize well like a yak, is hard to store gear efficiently, and catches wind badly. That all makes it kind of lame for fishing, alone especially. I really wish I had a kayak instead but can't afford one. Oh well, such is life.

I disagree, I like the kayaks but a canoe can certainly be outfitted for fishing and offer a lot more space and stability. I wouldn't trade my canoe for a kayak.
