Congrats!!!
Nice boat man, congrats!!!
Should be a lot of fun. Congrats and enjoy!
Thank you! I am excited, when i was little my dad had a boat and we always went fishing to the lakes around here, so I'm looking forward to dragging him around now!
Even got good timing with the boat, mercury just added an extra 2 year warranty to their standard 3 years for the month of March.
Outstanding! Now go make some memories.
Great boat dude!! Yall will have alot of fun with that! Now you can get alot of prefishing in before your co angler tourneys!! Good job of thinking ahead for the trolling motor, electronics and warranty. The 75 hp will be a good all around motro for you and wont cost you a fortune in fuel!! Love the red color!!
I hope alot of the younger guys without boats will see this and see what a little patience, hard work, good investments, and good timing will do for ya!
Thanks man, the red looks pretty sweet with the black jeep and being Aluminum pretty easy to tow as well.
I probably been reading and lurking in boat forums for a months. About what to upgrade on this boat to make a happy fisherman on the water. One thing i know for sure I wanted out the gate was a fish finder with Side Imaging. Then of course a number of people were saying they quickly upgraded the trolling motor later on to a 24 volt, and most said the 60HP was nice but if you could swing it max it out at the 75HP.
I always try to do extensive research before pulling the trigger on something like this, i always want to hear what people wish they would have done different or complaints about this and that, which lead to getting the upgrades.
I looked at others like the G3 and Stratos etc especially at the boat show back in late Jan. but the starting price coupled with the perks BPS throws in $500 Giftcard, rewards pts, and the 2 year VIP discount that gets you 10% and 20% off items at BPS its pretty hard to ignore.
Research, saving, and making those savings grow with smart investments is where it counts. Invest in what you know.
Im just glad you were prepared enough that you could get what yyou wanted and didnt have to settle for anything less.
That's great! That boat will open up a whole new world for you on the water.
Im excited to take her out! but i gotta do some manual reading as well, plus the whole running the motor at only like 3000-4000 rpms for the first hour, that break in period.
I told my dad to be ready for our first tourney next month April 20th and then we got some pre-fishing to do!
That boat is gonna run like a raped ape with that motor.
haha first thing the old man said when he saw it was "Dang son did you get a big enough motor?"
Heck no! Let me put a 90HP on there!
No one ever said ... i wish I had a smaller motor

Actually sometimes I say that. ...everytime i have to put gas in it.
We can swap boats, see how you like having a 25 at daybreak takeoff
Nah...ill keep my 200 and complain about it when i can.
Congratulations ~
Best of Luck with that Sweet Ride.
Won't be long before we start seeing some TrapperJ caught TOADS posted up in here . . .

I actually laughed out loud at that one.
TrapperJ I always wondered why my G3 175 was rated for a 90 and the Tracker 175TXW is rated for a 75. Anyway I only have a 60 and it does just fine running mid to high 30's. Youll love that boat. I saw all the incentives in a flyer they sent me and no wonder those boats are as popular as they are! Good luck with her!
Exactly what i saw when looking, same boat from another dealer but rated for 90HP, i had heard the Tracker 175 used to be rated for a 90HP, no idea why they changed. But i bet it flys with that 75 on there
I should have called in sick today to take it out... kind of hard though when you work for your old man and he knows you just bought a boat! ha

I think you'd be OK as long as you invite him too . . ..
Tell him you wouldn't think about taking it out for the first time without him - that should do it.

Congrats on the sweet little set up. That thing will take you everywhere a big boat will and more.

Double check that in the manual. The ProXS I just got has a 4 hour break in period
Yeah we found it in the manual during the walkthrough, the optimax just had and 1 hour break in on keeping at 3000-4000 rpm for the first hour, then after then you could run full throttle but only in 10 sec burst or something i'll have to look again about the 2nd part of the break in period.

This sounds right... I broke in my 115 optimax last year on my tracker. The motor itself breaks itself in for the first 10 hours by using a gas-oil mix of 25:1 which is double oil than the regular 50:1. But I remember the 3K-4K rpms for the first hour... it took a while to get on plane for me, but necessary to start out slow. Then I think the second hour is not to run the same RPMs for more than a certain amount of time no matter what rpms it's at. Just keep extra oil on the boat for the first 10 hours (or always for that matter ). But just to be safe keep a little extra onboard. Ha. Congrats man, enjoy and be safe.
Im not sure how doubling the fuel mix ratio would help break in. The whole purpose is to seal the rings. Just like youre not supposed to run full synthetic in a brand new motor because its too slick.
Someone will come along to tell me thats not true I am certain but having much experience with race motors and not one blow by issue I wont run full synthetic day one in any four stroke. Im not certain if it matters in a two stroke but the whole double ratio has me tilting my head.

I have no idea why they do it... it's programmed by the motor computer. Just Mercury's way I guess.
Ahh, I hadnt considered the newer motors having a computer to adjust timing, spark....
Does this mean there will be an aftermarket system in the future with power commanders allowing you to custom map the engine?
Beautiful boat, congrats!
Good to spend some time with the old man! Make some memories
When I broke in the ELPTO on my last boat I recall having to run1 or 2 tanks with extra oil
you guys are making me happy I have a four stroke..
Congratulations on a nice boat Trapper. If more of us followed your example of working and planning ahead to fund a major purchase we would all be better off. I have great respect for anyone who has the discipline to do so. I hope you have many years of fishing with your Dad. Well done.
Way to go!! Beautiful boat. Hope it is a great one for you!!

I just took my new 175 w/60 merc out yesterday to get the first two hours of break in done on it. On the merc 60 4 stroke the break in is 1 hour at not more than 3500 with varied throttle settings. The second hour is not more than 4500 with varied throttle settings plus 1 minute at full throttle in every 10 minute time period. The next 8 hours is not more than 5 minutes at full throttle...varied throttle settings throughout. So....10 hours of break in total. The mechanic at the boat dealer said that it's pretty vital to follow the break in procedure as it's shown in the manual, even though it is rather lengthy. I think those 2 strokes actually sound easier to deal with on break in.
I made it through about 1.5 hours of constant running before the cold chased me in. I will say this though, that little 60 really seemed to wake up once I was able to get it past 3500 and bump full throttle a couple times during the second hour. I was suprised at how quiet at idle and how easy to start/idle it was. Then when I got on it....it sounded good and pulled well...felt torquey (my first 4 stroke outboard).
Based on how my 175 with a 60 on it felt, I bet that 75 is gonna be awesome. Congrats!

but youll never need to add oil to it when you fill up.
Thanks guys! I'm itching to take it out, good wether coming this week too.
I'm storing it down at my old mans barn, if it was in my garage I'd probably be out there sitting in it while I typed this message!
I got a fish finder with Side Imaging I'm really interested to check it out as well.
I been told to be sure to use something like stabil, to add to the fuel, and it's recommended to use 100% gas. It can handle ethanol but its not recommended.

with 100% gas you dont really need stabil, but if its peace of mind then use it. Up here I cant get gas without ethanol unless I drive over 2 hours, so I am forced to use it. Ethanol, like all alcohols, bond with water and actually attract it, which as we all know can cause some serious damage when run through a combustion engine. Most, if not all fuel lines now are able to handle the eating properties of ethanol unlike older motors. Youll be fine running either gas, and if you need to use ethanol enhanced fuel then run stabil and youll be fine.

Oh I'm not complaining about it at all. I really like it so far...and I like how easy it starts and how nice it idles...and the fuel mileage...wow. Almost 2 hours of constant running....2 gallons and that was plowing around for much of it barely on plane. I'm just saying the break-in is really something else from what my last boat new boat was (98 merc 125 2 stroke). Of course all this stuff has changed so much since I was last in the "hole in the water" club...pretty much for the better as far as I can tell.
I've been doing alot of research. Mercury recommends using Quickleen with every fill up on the Opti's to prevent carbon buildup. They also have an ethanol treatment and a fuel stabilizer. I'm going to use the Quickleen on every fill up. I bought a couple bottles of their ethanol treatment, but I'm going to see if I can find something less expensive. As far as stabilizer, I've been using Stabil forever.
Well, this has been said but I'll say it anyway. Nice boat, and congrats on making some smart decisions when buying it. Very pretty, too.
Nice boat, man! I hope it provides many years of happy memories.
Don't know if it's so true anymore but I've found backing off on the throttle (from WOT) a bit will get you almost as much speed with considerably less gas used.
Hi Trapper, question for you now that the outboard should be broke in. What are you seeing for top speed? Just curious how it compares to the guys running the 60 hp 4 strokes. I've been looking at the same boat and trying to decide if the 15 hp upgrade is worth the extra 100 plus pounds that the motor weighs over the 60 hp. Thanks in advance!
Wow ... That is an awesome rig. Well done to you. Good luck with it. Be sure to give us all an update after your take out the first time!!!
