And with 8 heat settings, you can quickly set it to the appropriate temperature for the thickness of material you are sealing. Make a water-tight seal in seconds with the VViViD Sealer + 16. Instruction manual and draw-string carry-bag included. (Please note: Ensure that you read all included instructions prior to use. Meant to be used with plastic packages made from kel-F, mylar, polyflex, P.V.A, polyethylene, polyurethane, polyvinylchloride, polypropylene, pliofilm, tivac and saran. Would you consider this to be a heavy duty heat sealer? ex. operates the same with heavy use, well built appliance, etc. How thick is the seal?
Answer: The device gets hot after sealing 40 -50 units. It is good for what it is but it's not what I call heavy duty.

Answer: You must have a defective one. It should work like a charm from the first seal. Send it back and get a new one

Answer: There is tape over the wire inside. Did you remove that? Otherwise, your assumption was basically correct

Amazon Customer : Waste of my cash
This pos has a broken switch and I can’t afford to replace it until next week.

Prince of Peas : Works great but missing a few features
This sealed just about every bag I tried it on with one exception, a popular chocolate candy in a small bag. Other than that, it sealed everything in under a second.
Like many of the impulse sealers, this works on time, not temperature. When you move the dial from high to low, you are increasing the time that the wire stays hot, not the temperature. They claim that the heating wire never needs replacing; I hope that that is true, I have had to replace the wires on many of mine in the past and you always have to keep an extra around.
You may notice that, in the photos, the seal looks perforated, dotted as opposed to a clean line, but that’s just the way it looks; as you can see it holds water just fine.
The negatives on this unit are that:
1) It has no on/off switch.
2) The arm does not stay down, it is designed to swing up and stay in that position. The unit is turned on when the arm reaches the heating wire. Obviously then, if it stays down, the unit would stay on.
3) The small light indicating that it is sealing is hidden from your view if you keep your hand naturally positioned. No worries, everything is sealed in under a second anyway.
4) There is no guide included. You will need to play around to see what setting (length of time) works for each type/thickness of each material. It’s easy but it would be easier if there was a guide.
5) You will need to place a rubber band or other tying method around the arm in order to store it unless you have at least 12” clearance overhead.
6) Some bags are wider than 8”, you will need to make two seals with one crossing the other.
But, the positives are:
1) It seals well.
2) It works on a large variety of materials.
3) It seals very quickly.
4) If in fact the wire never burns out, that’s a great advantage over other sealers.
5) It’s value-priced.
Overall, I would recommend this, just remember that you will need to secure the arm in place with the sealer unplugged.

Game changer for sure! Not having to change wires had been a godsend with this one. I've gone through 3 traditional ones and this one leaves them in the dust. I've used it to dream over 300 bars of soap so far and it's been a clean seal every time.

Recommended by another cookier and I was skeptical because I had purchased and hated five other impulse sealers. I had come to the conclusion that I was going to have to spend more than $90 for an “ok” one, but then I got this. Just $20 or so bucks and it’s wonderful! Lightweight and seals all my cookie bags so well! No melted seams or partial seals, just a nice bonded seal.

David M. : Doesn't work on 2 mil mylar
I purchased this to seal 2 mil mylar. It could not do that. I would have to open and close 3 times in order to seal it, after it was heated up after a handful of uses. I had the settings all the way up too. The resultant seal is choppy because the filament used is a spun wire. Just not clean. So, back to Amazon it goes and I shall try another product.
