Would you consider this to be a heavy duty heat sealer? ex. operates the same with heavy use, well built appliance, etc. How thick is the seal?

Answer: The device gets hot after sealing 40 -50 units. It is good for what it is but it's not what I call heavy duty.

Will it work in a highly dusty area?

I just recieved this item and it doesnt work..why? I was under the impression you plug it into an outlet and your good to start sealing?

Answer: You must have a defective one. It should work like a charm from the first seal. Send it back and get a new one

Answer: Yes, you plug it in, no warm-up time. It works only when the arm is depressed. Maybe yours is defective.

Answer: There is tape over the wire inside. Did you remove that? Otherwise, your assumption was basically correct

Can I use it to seal Mylar bags?

Answer: Yes

Will seal & cut?

Answer: It is a sealer. But if you leave the plastic on the element (bottom) it will melt it al the way throughout but not seal well.

Answer: It has no blade for cutting. However on the highest setting it will seal and you can test it away nicely.

Excellent product. Only con is that it gets hot after extended usage and you have to wait to cool it down before continuing.

I like that it has heat settings that you can adjust according to what bag you're wanting to seal, usually I do mylar. It is pretty compact and I love that it has a case to keep it nice while you're storing it. The idea that the heat element never will need replacing intrigues me...of course I can't speak to that yet as it is new...I hope that is true.

I have gotten some mylar bags and plastic bags so that I can seal up doll outfits. This way, they never get separated. It also works for food storage too. Whatever you want to seal up in the bag, this will help preserve it.

Just me : NOT for mylar bags...

Decided to prep some 5 gallon buckets using Mylar bags. This unit has a very short heat time so I had to repeatedly apply the heat about 15 - 20 times per bag before I got a good seal. I would suggest spending a little more and check the specs before buying a unit like this if you're going to be using it a lot. Not terrible if you are on a budget, but there are better.

Cathy : Great for wreath makers!

I make wreaths and bought this to cut and seal mesh. I do wish it came with some instructions but it has none except that it only works when the handle is depressed. Jury's still out.

Update: I use this to make decomesh wreaths. I love it!! I still wish there was more information included, ie. How to clean it safely but if you are a wreath maker and are looking for a way to cut down on fraying I highly recommend it!!

Recommended by another cookier and I was skeptical because I had purchased and hated five other impulse sealers. I had come to the conclusion that I was going to have to spend more than $90 for an “ok” one, but then I got this. Just $20 or so bucks and it’s wonderful! Lightweight and seals all my cookie bags so well! No melted seams or partial seals, just a nice bonded seal.

David M. : Doesn't work on 2 mil mylar

I purchased this to seal 2 mil mylar. It could not do that. I would have to open and close 3 times in order to seal it, after it was heated up after a handful of uses. I had the settings all the way up too. The resultant seal is choppy because the filament used is a spun wire. Just not clean. So, back to Amazon it goes and I shall try another product.
