Questions about FoodSaver Microwavable Meal Prep Bags, for FoodSaver Vacuum Sealers, 1 Quart, 16 Ct.
Q:
I freeze meals in the regular FS bags and cut a slit in the side to vent before I microwave. Is there a difference between that way and these bags?
Answer: Shouldn't be a difference, they are the same bag just sealed and perforated for smaller portions.
Answer: there are actually heat and seal rolls you can get- those are like, a thousand times better. you can make it whatever size, and then no need to vent, you can pop them in the microwave without slitting them. I really didn't like these bags because they sometimes didn't seal well and I couldn't always tailor them to the size I needed.
Answer: Yes this sure is. I used to do it the way you do but it kept leaking and i had a mess to clean. With these,... dont ask me how but they breath but do not leak and cook very evenly!!
Q:
Aren't these single-use bags? They seem pretty expensive.
Answer: They are single use--they are mostly for people on the go. You freeze your portions in the bags and then they go directly to the microwave. If you don't have time to cook/clean up every night they are wonderful. I also use them for my lunches because they are so quick and convenient.
Answer: Yes they are single use bags and I do not use them without careful thought because they are expensive. However, they do work really well. For example, I layered Thanksgiving dinner in them and enjoyed turkey day again and again.
Answer: They are single use bags. The advantage to these is they allow you to cook something in the microwave straight out of the freezer (foods that were previously cooked and vacuum sealed that is). This is a great advantage to someone with a schedule that is never the same and doesn't allow for planning ahead and defrosting something in the refrigerator ahead of time. It only takes a couple minutes in the microwave to heat up a meal from the freezer with these bags.
Answer: There are single use steamer bags, but you can also seal them and freeze for later use.
Q:
What's the difference between these and regular FoodSaver bags?
Answer: You can put these directly into the microwave and cook your vegetable or whatever. They are the same as the the vegetable in the store that say Steam in Bag or something like that. I put up some fresh Brussel Sprouts and Asparagus They were as fresh as the day they were picked. I love these bags.
Answer: These are made for the microwave and work like stream and cook you buy in freezer section at store. They have a list of cooking times for foods on the bags. great for putting up fresh veggies or left overs.
Answer: The microwave bags are vented and made specifically to cook your veggies, instead of just heating them up. Whenever we get a bargain on veggies at the market, we freeze them in these bags. Then you just throw the frozen bag into the micro for a few minutes. The bag material is similar to those used commercially for steamer veggies. We have had a Food Saver ever since they were introduced. This is the best bag they have produced for ease of use and quality of food.
Answer: you can cook in them, microwavable.
Q:
can you pour boiling water into these and reconstitute dried vegetables, ramen, etc.? Specifically I would like to use for dried foods while camping
Answer: Temperatures above 170 degrees F can possibly compromise the integrity of the bags depending on how the bags were stored, handled, or used after purchase. In general, we recommend using only simmering water with FoodSaver Bags.
Answer: I don't see why not. You can submerge the bag in boiling water.
Answer: I would think so, since they are able to place them in boiling water to cook, and some of them are microwaveable
Answer: These bags have vent holes. Try using the zip lock Mylar bags.they do not have vent wholes. Have seen this done on YouTube.
Q:
is there a way to seal these bags for cooking if you do not own a foodsaver appliance?
Answer: Hello, this is Klaudia from FoodSaver!
Answer: To the best of my experience, no. You must be able to seal the plastic while producing a vacuum in the bag. Let me know if you figure something out... Denny
Answer: There has to be a heat source to fuse the bag shut for it to be able to be immersed in water or microwave. The contents would have to be pre frozen and the air removed. Otherwise the bag ma explode or the contents would develop freezer burn.
Answer: no you need the foodsaver equipent
Q:
can you use the regular foodsaver bags as cook bags
Answer: I don’t think so
Q:
They say quart but everyone is saying they are single serving. Are these quart in the sense they hold as much as a quart ziplock would?
Answer: These are FoodSaver Freeze 'N Steam Microwave Quart Vacuum-Seal Cooking Bags. The dimensions are 8.4 x 4 x 2.
Q:
Can these bags be washed and reused?
Answer: The Freeze 'N Steam bags cannot be reused.
Answer: Yes, They wash and are reusable for a little less size I get as much as 5 uses on the same bag. Just be careful when you open them to cut just below the seal that way you get more bag space for the next usage.
Answer: These bags can not be resused
Answer: No they can not. You have to cut them open so they would get smaller and smaller each time. Also the bag changes how if feels once used.
Q:
I have not found the answer to this. Are these bags reusable?
Answer: These bags are not reusable since they are ventilated for easy microwave use. Most other FoodSaver Bags are reusable.
Answer: I read all of the content that was on the box of bags that I received and did not see it say that you could or could not reuse these bags. These are to be used with the sealing machine: Food Saver which uses heat to create a seal - not a zip type bag. You have to cut the bag open to get to your food after it has been steamed...... I suppose you could try it, but your bag will get smaller with each use, and the company probably cannot give you advise on reuse because they don't want to be responsible in case of bacteria left over from the previous use....
Answer: No.
Q:
Is it BHP free?
Answer: These bags are BPA free.
Answer: yes, the packages are BPE free
Q:
Are these bags BPA free?
Answer: Yes. Our FoodSaver bags are BPA free. Thanks!
Answer: yes.
Q:
Are these bags for cooking or only reheat cooked food?
Answer: Hello, this is Filip from FoodSaver Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our FoodSaver 1-Quart Freeze 'n Steam Microwavable Single-Cooking Bags. While it is possible to use these bags for cooking, we do not recommend putting them in water above 170F.
Answer: According to the manufacturer, food can be microwaved, boiled and steamed in these bags so you can also cook in them.
Answer: they are microwave cooking in the bag. I really like them. I freeze most of my veggies from our gardens and happy to be able to buy them. Can not go wrong in using them.
Answer: We use them to steam cook all of our vegetables. They work very good for us. Be careful when you take them out of the microwave because of the steam.
Answer: The wife par boilies the veggies and then freezes them for a later time. Then she put them in the microwave for the time needed to steam them. Work just fine. Hope this answer your question.
Answer: Not for oven use...
Answer: Both
Q:
Can you boil these? I'm trying to lay off the microwave a bit.
Answer: We do not recommend boiling these bags, but you can heat cooked foods in a FoodSaver bag in a simmering pot. Only place bags with frozen food inside the simmering water. The coldness of the food will keep the bag from becoming too hot while the food is heating up. Temperatures above 170 degrees F can possibly compromise the integrity of the bags depending on how the bags were stored, handled, or used after purchase. This is why we recommend that you do not use temperatures over 170 degrees F.
Q:
How long do these bags last in the freezer?
Answer: dont knoe
Q:
exactly how do these work? do you seal raw vegetables of choice with a little liquid and then microwave?
Answer: These are ventilated, stand-up bags that allows you to easily fill and cook in the microwave and serve. You can vacuum seal frozen or fresh foods and store in refrigerator or freezer. Then you place the bag in the microwave and cook using the guidelines printed on the bag. Finally, you can cut open the bag carefully where indicated on the bag, serve and enjoy!
Answer: You don't need any liquid the steam from the bag produces all the moisture you need. At times I have par boiled small whole potatoes.
Q:
Do you have to blanche your veggies before using this bag?
Answer: I am not sure, however I always do for safety sake as blanching keeps nutrients in the veggies.
Answer: i use them for already cooked food but I don’t think I would blanched fresh veggies before freezing
Answer: No we put the vegetables in the bag with a little olive oil an a. Dash of garlic salt a seal the bag an put it in the microwave. The back of the bag tells you how to cook them.
Answer: It helps but is not required if you use them within a year.
Answer: No
Q:
Could you freeze left over soup in them?
Answer: You need to freeze the soup in a container first, release it from container , then put it in the bag and seal. This works great for me good luck.
Answer: If you freeze the soup first, then use the food saver, you could, but you can't do liquids directly. :(
Answer: Yes but not able to suck air out. You would lose some shelflife on product.
Q:
Can these be used in a non "Food Saver" vacuum sealer??
Answer: These bags are designed for use exclusively FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing Systems. The sealing bar on your unit may either be too hot, which will melt the bags, or too cool, which will result in a bag that is not sealed properly. Hope this helps!
Q:
How do these bags work for sous vide cooking? Are they too small?
Answer: We wouldn't recommend you use our Freeze 'N Steam bags, because the vents may allow water in. For best results with the sous vide cooking method, we would recommend you use our regular FoodSaver heat-seal bags and rolls. Happy sealing!
Q:
What size are these, quart, gallon, etc?
Answer: These are quart size bags. Happy shopping!
Answer: I would call these almost 2 quart. Definitely not a gallon, but much more than a quart sized storage bag.
Answer: Quart
Answer: They hold between 2 and 3 cups of vegetables
Q:
Do these work with the handheld device?
Answer: These bags are made for our FoodSaver Vacuum systems. They are not compatible with the handheld devices.
Q:
will the bag be boiled other cook in the microwave ?
Answer: I cook it in the microwave, we even do left over rice in then.
Q:
What device works. Do all food saver devices seal with heat.? I am not sure what to buy so I can use theses bags.
Answer: these bags work with most machines but are manly used for food that is done and frozen to work like steam fresh veggies. I love these bags as it saves you money rather than buying frozen veggies
Answer: The food saver machine is a vacuum and heat systems. It draws out the air in the bag and then seals it. This gives it a longer shelf life in the freezer and prevents freezer burn.
Answer: All food saver bags - several producers - fit all machines..
Answer: I think they all do but I am not sure. Go to Food saver .com and they will be able to answer you,
Q:
I need to know if these bags plastic bags contain the BPA toxin as found in many plastics. "I do not know" is an unsatisfactory answer! Please advise.
Answer: According to the FoodSaver website the bags are BPA free. http://www.foodsaver.com/service-%26-support/product-support/product-faqs/bags-%26-rolls/general-questions/bags-and-rolls-general-questions-faq.html
Answer: According to the FoodSaver website none of their bags contain BPA.
Answer: Although there is nothing on the packaging claiming BPA free product. the Foodsaver website claims that they are BPA free.

D T : Don't compare these to ziplock steam bags
tried to use to replace the steam bags from ziplock, which were amazing, and these did not live up to the steam bags from ziplock but I would score these a 3 on scale of 5 .

Mikey51 : Great product ... best of the Food Saver accessory line.
Works great. Have used these for vegetables as well as meatloaf and other meat dishes to vacuum and freeze and take to work to microwave for lunch. Have always been flawless. Not cheap but beats eating at the cafeteria prices by a lot.

RalphieSays : EASY 2 USE - BRINGS NEW LIFE to a decades old, mostly unused vacuum sealer
Steam anything and everything. Fresh, Frozen, Thawed, or Unthawed.
Superior Taste & Superior Texture results especially with veggies like fresh & frozen peas. (compared to boiling)
Faster & Easier to use than a dedicated Steamer with no post-use clean-up. (No cleaning the steaming unit with smelly vinegar!)
With Zip Loc's Steamer Bags being out of production since 2020.. This product has saved me hours of cooking. Bags are single-use and somewhat spendy. But if you're someone who benefits from FAST & EASY cooking of multiple veggies (or meats) each and every day? The per-unit price makes sense.
And it's quite useful if you're 1 of millions of homes with a mostly unused vacuum sealer! I had no idea we had one stored away from 15-20 years ago.
BONUS - For the culinary clueless types like yours truly... Cooking Instructions for many items are printed on bag! Anything out-of-the-ordinary (ex. ethnic foods) = you can probably find instructions for online within seconds.
Tina Tran : This bag has a strong chemical smell
These bags have very strong chemical smell. Omg, how are people using these bags for food? I opened the package, left the content in a metal rack outside under the lanai to air out. The next day, the entire lanai smells. I moved the rack further away from the house and left them there for another week, the smell was still so strong. I threw it away. It’s not worth returning it, not if I had to handle it and box it and stuff.
Dexter : Five Stars
they work
Donald Hume : Saves time and money
Very useful product....easy to save and store for later. An excellent addition to this line of products. I found it useful.
roni1854 : Super Time Saver
I often use the "Zip N' Steam" bags but this takes it a step further. I can marinate chicken during the freezing and thawing process in the same container I cook it in. No muss=no fuss! Love these!
Kindle Customer : way better than ziploc
works great. The cooking guidelines on each bag are accurate. I would call them a double serving size. Less than a quart, but more than a pint.
jayson mitchell : Works great
I use these all the time works in the microwave .food taste good.takes a lot of heat.works really good ...buy it
Alan Perry : Five Stars
Great product!
Amazon Customer : Don't buy
They don't seal up
Teeko : Worst Item Ever
This item is terrible!!! I tried four bags and each one leaked on one side. These were manufactured with a poor seal. I was not able to reseal as I had liquid in the bag and I could not form a new seal. I am used to sealing twice on the open edges but not on the manufactured sealed edges. Had to clean up the mess on my counter and place each bag in another regular food saver bag. Just glad I noticed before placing in my refrigerator and freezer. What a mess that would be.
Darlene Hagen : Great for single servings
Great for single servings. Not that great if you are feeding a crowd. Don't get me wrong, they are a great product but the do not hold much.
A. Williams : Not sure I like them
Not sure how I like these. The veggies I tried to steam came out tasting off and could not eat them. Have not used since my first go around since it was a failure.
Kenyon L Pease Jr : Five Stars
Use them all the time
Pauline L. Obert : Five Stars
Great because I am alone a widow. Makes thing easier.
Elizabeth Ann : Five Stars
What a wonderful convenience! Thanks for making my life a little easier.
Lorrie Batson : Bag steamer
Need a food sealer
Alex S : Work Great - Limited use
I purchased these at the time I purchased a number of items in bulk, and I want to mention that they work wonderfully.
I especially appreciate that the cook times are printed on the side of the bag, making it especially easy to use them. For that reason alone, they deserve five stars.
But, if you are considering using them, I want to remind you that these are in essence "steam" bags. I enjoy them most when I blanch and freeze vegetables to be re-used. These can be easily sealed and frozen.
It does give time for raw meat, eg. chicken, but I would recommend that you incorporate vegetables or herbs to give your chicken flavor. I normally freeze my chicken before sealing it, since it is often too juicy otherwise to give a good seal.
I do recommend them, but suggest that you consider how they are to be used before making your purchase.
chickie : best for freezing veggies
So happy to get the Foodsaver freeze and seal bags. We have a big garden and freeze a lot of veggies. Love these bags.
Nancy Thorne : Perfect for Meal Prepping
Perfect for Meal prepping
Jfer : Love these bags…
I absolutely love these bags, but they are quite pricey.
I use these for smaller servings of veges that I freeze.
Would recommend for small servings of food that you’d like to steam cook.
jayson mitchell : Works great
I use these all the time works in the microwave .food taste good.takes a lot of heat.works really good ...buy it
Frank D : Good Product
I have had a food saver ever since the came out. All there bags are great. This is nice to have if you like frozen veggies.
KristinaK : Super Convenient!
I love these things! I invested in a Food Saver a few years ago when my work schedule was so hectic with my busy season & travel, I didn't have time shop, cook, etc.
I used these microwavable bags for everything like produce and small meals. I'd cook or shop once a week and then put everything into my Food Saver bags. This way I'd have quick meals for the week that would stay fresh. The meals were also great for lunches at work when I couldn't step out to get food.
Overall I do find these on the expensive side but for convenience they are worth every penny. They truly have been a great lifesaver for me during a very busy time!
Sandi C : Just what I wanted!
Great for freezing small portions!
chickie : best for freezing veggies
So happy to get the Foodsaver freeze and seal bags. We have a big garden and freeze a lot of veggies. Love these bags.
Dan : Works great.
Works great.
Todd Coury : Awesome!
These are awesome! Work great!
Julie M. : Love these
From garden to freezer to microwave. Love these
Darnell E. Miller : Work great
I freeze my garden veggies and these bags keep them fresh and do great to steam cook in the microwave
michelle : PERFECT for single frozen meals
I have 19 yr old son on the autism spectrum, and the labels on these help him to know where to tear open. they are clear to see what is inside. I made spaghettis up and put single serve amounts in these. son wants one after playing games all night, comes and pops in microwave for 4 minutes and its just like I made it. the sauce is not even dried up. I also have froze stew in them. these are my favorite part of the foodsaver period. hands down!
