Questions about Excalibur 2400 Electric Food Dehydrator with Adjustable Thermostat Accurate Temperature Control Faster & Efficient Drying, 4-Tray, Black
Q:
I cannot find an on/off switch. Where is it? The only way to turn it off currently is to unplug it. the temperature control doesn't turn it off.
Answer: there is no off switch. to turn machine off you have to unplug it. I have been doing this all along, no big deal :)
Answer: There is no on/off switch. You have to just unplug it from the electrical outlet
Answer: You are correct. There is no ON/OFF switch. This unit pairs nicely with a cheap plug-in timer from a hardware store (under $10). Then you can set the length of time you want it to run, and the timer will switch it off.
Answer: All I got with mine was some stupid pluggie thingie. It seems you have to "turn it on" to turn it on.
Answer: The switch is on the top at the back on the right.
Answer: mine has one, on the top back right side near the dial
Q:
what are the temperature settings-lowest to highest?
Answer: Description says 95 - 165 F.
Answer: I'm almost positive it's 155 degrees.
Answer: 85F/29C. To 155F/68C
Answer: Mine is 85F to 155F
Q:
does it work with 220V??
Answer: No, i need to buy a 220 to 110 converter.

Answer: Good question - because from what I've learned about plastics - it is the HEAT that Releases the BPA and other chemicals in the plastics.
Answer: Don't know, but their website invites inquiries!
Q:
does it come with removable mesh screens and non stick sheets? If I get one I would like to use it for making flax crackers
Answer: The mesh screens are removable/easily washable. It doesnt come with non-stick sheets. Excalabers are pricey but work well. Ive not tried other brands.
Answer: Yes for the mesh screen. No for the non stick sheet. You can also use Parchment paper in replacement of the non stick sheet. I have tried it and it worked though the crackers were a bit rippled.
Answer: I have one silicon sheet which works very well, but I also use non-waxed parchment paper and this works just as well as the silicon.
Q:
DO YOUU HAVE ANY DEHYDRATOR 200V?
Answer: We actually do have two 4526T units in 220 Volt with the Euro Plug. This is the 5 tray model with timer. They are $365 including shipping to a US address (Our Amazon store do not ship outside the US at this time). Let us know if you are interested and we will post them for sale.
Answer: No unfortunately we do not.
Q:
Hello, I purchased a commercial dehydrator last year and need support. I have been trying to get a hold of someone for sometime now. Can you help?
Answer: If you need help to contact customer support, the pamphlet that came with your appliance should have the contact information. I'm sure the company will be able to have answer any questions for you.
Answer: Being the company isn’t responding, maybe try amazon. I have found that their customer service is excellent, if you can’t get through to the company, they will, & they have always replaced item or given me a refund. I hope this helps. I know how frustrating it can be. Have a blessed day ????
Answer: Hi sorry I am not qualified to give that kind of support however during this pandemic a lot of companies have reduced hours and live operators to handle calls. Hope you get the answers you need soon.
Answer: I will do what I can. Whats your question?

Has anyone used this model to make jerky? Just for 1 person.
Answer: Absolutely you can use this item for jerky. Excalibur's do a great job at that.
Answer: I love using it to make beef jerky. If you want the jerkey flavored, i've found drying it with some flavoring on it then reapplying coats of sauce after it's redried works great and tastes great. My friends tell me it's the best they have had, and I certainly think it's the best I've had.
Answer: Works great for making beef jerky. Just make sure that whatever you put on the meat isn't too drippy.
Answer: Not me, I am a vegan

Are the trays in this stainless steel as well? We are looking for a completely stainless steel one!
Answer: No stainless steel in this model. All plastic trays, interior and exterior.
Answer: No, nothing in this machine is stainless steel there is only one version that comes in stainless steel as far as I remember when I was digging into the dehydrator options and it was a five tray version the price was double as well (for the stainless steel option) you can buy the stainless steel trays as an option for $16 each at Excalibur webpage if what you are looking is to dry meats

I was told i could use this to ferment tempeh but it only seems to dry out the beans. is there a technique i should be using?
Q:
Description says temp starts at 95, but user manual says 85. What is the lower temperature range on this (I'm looking for a 85 F dehydrator)?
Answer: There may be other models other than mine that go down to 85 but the lowest temp on mine is 95. Although mine won't even run at anything lower than the 100 setting. Hope this helped.
Answer: I purchased a used, older model. The lowest temp is 95 degrees.
Answer: The temperature gauge starts at 95F.
Answer: Sorry but don't know the answer..... I can tell you that the dehydrator is very good and durable. Maybe you could lessen the time of dehydration and turn the trays during the dehydration time.
Answer: I used the unit for drying food. I did not check the low temp. It works pretty well though. Good luck ....

Answer: Do you have electricity in Colombia? If not, no. If you do, then yes.

Q:
Has anyone purchased this dehydrator recently? All the comments are from years ago?
Answer: I purchased about 2 months ago. Used several times and working well. This is my 3rd unit. The last one purchased at a garage sale over 10 years ago died this summer.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Wish I could help you but I purchased mine a number of years ago too. I can tell you that it has been a great dehydrator, and I've used it on a regular basis. I updated recently to a 9-tray Excaliber.
Answer: I bought this a couple of years ago, but I hated it. Either the contents dried to a hard tasteless chunk, or it never got dried. I tried many times, gave up, put it back in the box and stored it in the basement.
Answer: Yes I purchased this dehydrator this fall and am quite satisfied with it. I've dehydrated hops, herbs and made lots of crackers and kale chips with it.I have not had to rotate the trays during the process. If you plan on doing a lot of dehydrating and can afford it the nine tray model is better. I bought the four tray model as my budget would not permit the purchase of the larger one. Theresa
Answer: We purchase this about a year ago. We like it a lot. We need to get busy and start dehydrating AGAIN.
Q:
Which size of non-stick dehydrator sheets are compatible with this smaller model?
Answer: 12" x 12" is the tray size.
Answer: I am sorry but I have never used sheets with this product. It came with four trays and the plastic screens to place the food on.
Answer: I bought the size that was on sale and trimmed them to fit. They work just fine.
Q:
Is the fan plastic or metal?
Answer: the fan itself is plastic, but is a durable plastic i use it day and night
Q:
Can this be used in India?if so is there an adapter available for this
Answer: The Model 3900T sold in North America utilizes 110VAC, but since it draws only 600W (max.), you should be able to use 110/220VAC adapters to work with the 220VAC outlets common in India and elsewhere. The Excalibur 3900T has the standard three-prong 110VAC plug (hot, neutral, and ground) commonly found on appliances sold in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Be certain that your 110/220 adapter will accommodate a three-prong plug on the 110VAC side.
Q:
is this item come with 240V version or International version 110-240V ?
Q:
Would this dehydrator work in Europe with 220v ?
Answer: My dehydrator works on 110v only.
Answer: sorry I'm not familiar with the electric in Europe mine has a standard 3 prong plug for american outlets. I suppose you would need an adaptor or contact the company direct and see if they offer a version for you folks! :)
Answer: I don't believe so, unless you use it with voltage converter. I would not even recommend it. It has to run for hours at a time and the voltage may be too much and burn it out, even if converter is used.
Product reviews of Excalibur 2400 Electric Food Dehydrator with Adjustable Thermostat Accurate Temperature Control Faster & Efficient Drying, 4-Tray, Black
Cchuk : Don't recommend
During the second use, it became very noisy a few hours in. It's just not well made.
Amazon Customer : great product!
Best dehydrator i have had. ended up buying the Exalibur 3900B 9 tray for more room, just as good!
Steven K. : Spend the money and get this!
This thing is amazing for jerky, drying fruit, does it all. Don’t waste your money on a cheaper one. This one is worth it and will last!
Rebecca Miller : Love this dehydrator
Love this dehydrator! Use it often to encapsulate placentas, very easy to clean and sanitize. Only issue, my door sticks, just need to ask for a replacement and it should be fine.
Diane : Excalibur
The first item I tried to dehydrate said 12 hr. I left it in there 48 hrs and still was not right
jachampion : Good product
I am still learning how to dehydrate. It would have been nice to have an informational packet with it, along with tips and recipes. Also, it would be nice to have a timer and an on/off switch instead of just plugging it in to start it.
Nikol : Works Great
This dehyrdrator works great. I appreciate the temperature settings and it's not too loud, although I have put this in the pantry to lower the sound impact on our family. Only four stars because I wish it had a timer.
Chris W. : Just a heads up, the dial temps are not ...
Just a heads up, the dial temps are not accurate. I measured the temp of the dehydrator with a thermocouple thermometer and found the temps to be off by 16ºC. Max temp on my machine is 52ºC although the max temp on the dial is 68ºC.
Kim Perry : It's easy to use and works great
It's easy to use and works great. I was worried that it would be loud and distracting but it's not. I am new to dehydrating so I started with this smaller model. I will more than likely purchase a second larger one next summer.
Amazon Customer : Good value for the money
This unit was a good value for the money. Trays are easy to get in and out, easy to clean and cooks evenly.
Katie : Excalibur 4-Tray Food Dehydrator
I've only used the dehydrator twice since I've received it and am very pleased. This will make my life much easier as I eat primarily a Raw Food Diet which requires a lot of dehydration.
Miriam : dehydrator
I was so exceited to finally buy a dehydrator. I just got back from travels and I met a raw chef who got me very excited about this idea. I just made my first kale chips today. They are delish. I'm on my way to GREAT health.
George H : Buy something to add that to this setup and you're good to go
The lack of a timer is known. What annoys me is the lack of an on/off switch. Buy something to add that to this setup and you're good to go. Seems to do a reasonable job with the actual task of dehydrating. The included recipe book should only be used as a guideline. Experimentation will be require to get temps and times exactly right.
Rich : You can't go wrong with Excalibur.
I recently purchase this dehydrator after doing extensive research. I am NOT dissapointed! I was between this dehydrator and a model by Nesco that came with a timer. I was hesitant about buying this from the reviews l, but I can honestly say that Excalibur is a fantastic brand. This model does indeed have an on/off switch, and there really isn't a need for a timer (I can always buy one from a hardware store if I feel the need). Kale chips come out fantastic. I've also used it to make delicious raw bread and crackers. It's been running pretty much non stop since I got it (and yes, the heating element and fuse are just fine). If you're looking for a dehydrator to buy, new to dehydrating, health conscious, or into Raw foods (like myself) go with Excalibur.
Alex Wall : Great product, love the different temperature options.
Bought this for my husband and he already has used it twice to make beef jerky. It only took 6 hours to make and the quality was the same as the ones you would buy from the store. I also love that the trays are removable and you could insert bigger things to dehydrate. Most of the cheaper dehydrators had the trays on top of each other and no options for different temperatures. Would recommend this product to everyone who is looking for a starter model.
jonathan acevedo : If you the extra money get the 5 tray
I have read the reviews from before some good or some bad, I haven't had any issues I have used it for a couple months now, some complain about heat not being accurate or not even thorough the machine chamber but it has work for me perfect with no hiccups, I would say if you have that extra 40 bucks for the 5 tray get the 5 tray instead the 4 tray.. Reason why because is not that is small is big actually more than I imagined about a microwave size the 5 will hold much more food related to prize-size I can fit for 30 slices of apple for example and believe me you can finish all that food in no time other than that it works perfect
lfbrinkman : Worthy of consideration
Small and quite compact, good for small quantities of dehydrating. There is no timer, so you turn on and off at your desired time. It is easy to clean and practical if not drying a lot at a time, but adequate for personal use.
anonymous1 : Great machine!
I love this dehydrator! By far better than any other that I have used. It works great, takes a bit longer than I imagined it would but it is thorough and quiet.
Mikejla : WOW
Wow!I order on 1 dive days later delivered from USA to England, how impressive!Thank you very much.Cant wIt to start using it!Very good price too!!!THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
George H : Buy something to add that to this setup and you're good to go

Lisa Krum : but I did make a great batch of beef jerky
There is a learning curve for sure...but I did make a great batch of beef jerky!
Customer : but without the fan the unit is useless.
Used less than half a dozen times and the fan stopped. Heating element still heats, but without the fan the unit is useless.
R. A. Martinek : Solid performer, well made and designed.
Our old one finally died after about ten years of heavy service. This is a slightly improved model, with an integral on/off switch and a redesigned fan cage.
david ostman : Good after two weeks.
Have used this machine (my first dehydrator) daily for half a month and it has performed as promised. For those interested in large quantities (more than four apples at a time) a larger unit is probably the way to go.
Amazon Customer : Terrible quality
Defective, doesn’t close properly, heat is not accurate, therefore you have to dry two to three times longer than suggested

I return this too small and the telflex paper that are available wouldn’t fix this
Mikejla : WOW
Wow!I order on 1 dive days later delivered from USA to England, how impressive!Thank you very much.Cant wIt to start using it!Very good price too!!!THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
joy sacks : My little dryer
I have used it with good sucess, using the temp. and timing given in booklet, have found on many things it requires longer time. than suggested. overall I love it. Wish I had bought the larger one.
Sara Gordon : Not what they used to be
Got this and returned it the same day.
For one, I was concerned about the size, but figured it'd be better than nothing for my budget.
My grandmother swore by hers, but it finally died after years, but this one would be lucky to last months. It's made of very cheap plastic and it observably fragile.
Mine arrived twisted. As in the whole housing was in a twist, putting a gap at the top of one side of the drop-in door and the bottom of the other side.
I'm being refunded and will buy something else later.
Ltown : Too small
I return this too small and the telflex paper that are available wouldn’t fix this
S. Jeffris : Five Stars
Love my dehydrator! It works amazingly well.
Dina Hanlon : Five Stars
Love this dehydrator!
jewels : food dehydrator
glad I purchased the excalibur and not another brand I really like the square trays works great
Amazon Customer : Terrible quality
Defective, doesn’t close properly, heat is not accurate, therefore you have to dry two to three times longer than suggested
Big T : Excalibur Dehydrator
Excellent unit at a fair price. Very compact and east to store away. The beef jerky I made came out excellent.
John Link : Nice little unit
I just received the unit today. It does have an on/off switch. The thermostat range is 95° to 165° F. Nice little unit. Works very well.
Stephen B : Make jerky the way you want at home
Been using this for a few months so far, and couldn't be happier. I love beef jerky as an everyday snack, but it can get expensive buying it at the store all the time. A coworker is big on do it yourself foods and told me how to make jerky at home and decided to give it a try. At first I was doing it in the oven, which worked decently, but he kept telling me about his Excalibur and how great it was. So I decided to throw down the money, and very happy I did.
He had the 9 try version and that just seemed like way too much, which it would have been. I found this 4 tray and the price was pretty good at $100. I can do about 2 1/2 pounds at a time which is perfect. The Excalibur is so straight forward and easy to use. Theres no On/Off switch, so just plug it in and it turns on. The temperature dial even shows the type of foods you should be using at each temperature. (ex 155:meat, fish, 125:vegetables) This is good if you are not sure what to use. There is no timer, which is ok for me. I'll only do a batch on my days off anyways. Jerky takes around 6 hours, sometimes a little more.
I will admit the dehydrator does feel like cheap plastic, but you dont need something thats made out of heavy duty metal to dehydrate. It is pretty light for its size. Theres not much to it besides the case, the fan inside and the trays. Each tray has a removable and flexible mesh that is easy to clean. The fan is a nice feature as some other brands do not have one. This allows for the heat to be blown across the trays evenly. Although I have noticed that the lower tray seems to dry slower then the other 3. But for that I just recommend rotating the trays about half way through. You can rotate more then once if you really want to, but I dont think you need to. Rotating once did the trick for me.
You can do many types of food in a dehydrator, but I just use it to make beef jerky. I love being able to experiment with my own recipes and make it just the way I want. My friend gave me a recipe at first, and it was good, but I've been able to perfect it for me. After making a couple of batches and eating my own recipe I decided to try a bag of my favorite brand from the store, and Wow what a difference. I dont even like the taste of that brand anymore. I can never go back after making my own.
I highly recommend buying an Excalibur. Depending on your needs, the 4 tray was perfect for me. Dont let the fact that its made out of plastic fool you. It is high quality and I love using it.
Steven K. : Spend the money and get this!
This thing is amazing for jerky, drying fruit, does it all. Don’t waste your money on a cheaper one. This one is worth it and will last!
Rcst : Flimsy, difficult to clean
I bought the 4-tray Excalibur and the Nesco FD-75A, and I've tested them both. I wanted to like the Excalibur more, probably based on its reputation, but that wasn't the case.
First, I was surprised at the build quality—the unit is made of flimsy black plastic. Maybe the larger more, expensive units are more durable, but this little guy seems cheaply made. Certainly not worth the $150 price tag.
I found the Excalibur very difficult to clean. If you're drying something that will drip and pool at the bottom of the unit, that liquid can spread to behind a wire screen that encloses the fan unit. I had to remove the back cover (6 screws) in order to wipe up the liquid that was back there.
Another design flaw is the black color. The 4 tray unit is small, and if you have it in a pantry closet (for noise dampening) or simply don't have the kitchen lights up high, it's very difficult to see inside—especially to check on cleanup at the bottom of he unit. I had to use a flashlight. A white casing would be more practical. Though maybe that would make them look less fancy and the price would have to come down :)
Finally, the temperature difference at the front and back of the unit. Rotation of trays halfway during cycle is recommended by many experienced users.
All of this for $150? I don't believe it's worth it.
The Nesco has been wonderful, for nearly a third of the price. The bottom of unit can be removed and placed in the sink for cleanup. Easy. The trays don't have to be rotated. Easier. And, the color—it's easy to see inside.
If your looking for a small dehydrator on a budget, I would choose the Nesco. You'll save money and have less hassle.
eyewrist : Still Working
I had order another brand from AZ that only lasted a year but this is still going strong The adjustable temp that is color coded; no numbers to tell you the exact temperature.

Love this dehydrator!
Ryan Toolin : control is excellent. Would buy another product from this company
Outstanding dehydrator. Was worth buying a product MADE IN THE USA! I have made several batches of beef and chicken jerky. I've followed the manufacturer's instructions, and they were spot on. The adjustable temp. control is excellent. Would buy another product from this company! -Randy, Massachusetts
Lindsey : Love it!
All I have used it for thus far is the making of apple chips but it has done a brilliant job of it! Just follow the instructions in it and all will go well! Just need an accompanying kitchen timer.
Bethany : Don't waste your time
I ordered this unit and it was a complete bust. The fan scraped against the wire backing of the unit. The fan actually wasn't able to spin at all. The box had a sticker on it that said it had been "inspected". If anyone had bothered to plug it in before selling it I wouldn't have wasted my time buying, returning, and reviewing a poorly built unit.

reallyjilly : This product works great. I was apprehensive after seeing some negative reviews
This product works great. I was apprehensive after seeing some negative reviews, but have had it for several months, use it all the time and it works very well. It's big enough for my husband and myself. I use it for raw vegan food.
