Questions about NON WIFI Grilla Grills - Chimp Tailgater Bundle | Smoker and BBQ Wood Pellet Grill | Foldable Frame | Dual Mode PID Controller | Stainless Steel Construction | Up to 580 Sq. in Cooking Space
Q:
What is included in the bundle?
Answer: Comes with grill and cover
Q:
this product can simply cook burgers, chicken, steak in the normal way that an inexpensive Weber kettle grill would?
Answer: The Chimp can run from any temp from 180 to 500 in 5 degree increments. So its easy to cook hot for your burgers, chicken, steak etc or can bring it low and slow for a more tender smoky cook. A set of searing grates will help get even more heat and charred lines as well.
Answer: Absolutely not! It’s basically an oven that can generate smoke with a very mild smoke flavor. It’s a slid product but don’t expect the same kind of flavor as a Weber kettle grill.
Q:
Whats the difference between the non-wofo model and the newest model on your Grilla website?
Answer: I had the non-wifi model and it worked ok. I then received the wifi controller and installed it but never held the correct temp and always lost wifi connection. Then they sent me a new grill and it did not hold the temp correctly either. So I just sent all the grills back on Friday and I am now a proud owner of a Recteq smoker and it works awesome. holds the temp great. sorry for the bad news.
Q:
What are the temp ranges on this grill?
Answer: 180 to 500 in 5 degree increments
Q:
Do the legs fold?
Answer: Yes all 4 legs fold in. And there are small adjustable legs underneath that it will sit on. Perfect for tailgating or travel.
Q:
Approx. How many burgers can you grill at once?
Answer: 6 - 8
Q:
Can I smoke a turkey on here? Will it fit?
Answer: na
Q:
smoke a 15pound turkey?
Answer: A 12 pounder just fits. A 15 pounder will fit if it is splaycocked.
Q:
Can I use an extension cord with my chimp grill
Answer: You most certainly can. As long as it's grounded.
Q:
What is the temperature range?
Answer: 180-500 in 5 degree increments.
Q:
Is the cover the official Grilla logo cover?
Answer: Yes. It says Grilla grills on it
Answer: Yes it is. Comes straight from us
Answer: Yes
Q:
If I brought this to a tailgate, could I power it off my car or would I need to run it off a small generator?
Answer: Both should work. We have seen them run off truck outlets and other car powers!
Answer: Since I never intended to use mine that way but I’d say you would need a generator.
Q:
Is there a cover made for the Grilla Chimp?
Answer: Yes. This bundle includes a cover, apron, rub seasoning and sauce.
Q:
Does this come with a meat probe?
Answer: Good Morning!
Answer: Yes, it comes with a meat probe. That being said, I’ve had to replace mine twice, as they seem to be prone to failure. I’ve had better luck with my wireless probe that I previously used on my smoker.
Answer: This does come with a meat probe.
Answer: Yes. It comes with a meat probe and a nice cover.
Answer: YES
Q:
Does it include Alpha Connect?
Answer: Currently this does not include the alpha connect board.
Answer: I believe the new CHimp does. They are selling an upgrade also
Answer: Mine did not. But they may have updated them since my purchase in Nov of 2020.
Q:
What is the wattage requirement? I want to use with a solar generator
Answer: Everything ON 2.2 amps 222 Watts
Q:
What is the dimensions when folded up?
Answer: na
Q:
Will the unifit red stag pizza oven ( or similar) fit in the chimp ?
Answer: Not 100 percent sure but the Chimp main grate is 22x15.5 with a 7 inch opening.
Product reviews of NON WIFI Grilla Grills - Chimp Tailgater Bundle | Smoker and BBQ Wood Pellet Grill | Foldable Frame | Dual Mode PID Controller | Stainless Steel Construction | Up to 580 Sq. in Cooking Space
Matthew Ryan : Decent grill with minor flaws
I chose the Chimp over the Rec-Tec RT-340 because of the Chimp's angled outward legs, as I have two young kids and the Chimp looked more stable in case of an accident (and the Chimp definitely is stable). The Chimp stays pretty close to the temp you set it at (except for on very hot days, more on that later), which is great for those long smokes. Speaking of long smokes the hopper is large enough to get through any smoke without having to refill during the cook. The grill looks, well... awesome!
Now to the cons... first off and my biggest gripe: the hopper latch is useless. Not sure if I received a QA fail, but the latch doesn’t clamp down at all. It is off center with the lid catch, and loose even in the clamped position. A couple shakes of the hopper lid and the latch pops right open. Grilla reached out to me after my initial review to ask about the latch. After sending them pictures and a video they pretty much told me "too bad, we can't help". While the rep Cindy was very nice and helpful, the result (that I assume came from above Cindy) is pretty poor customer service if you ask me. I bought two YETI style rubber latch handles that I am going to rivet to the hopper lid. Is it too much to ask to have a secure hopper lid on a grill that is marketed as "portable"? I have to empty the hopper every time I haul the grill somewhere. The latch DOES NOT stay clamped down while traveling in the bed of my truck, and I really don't want to sweep out and waste $20 worth of pellets.
Other small gripes are: no cord holder (you have to buy separate and install yourself), only one meat probe vs the Rec-Tec’s two, and very, very light smoke. I imagine being a smaller grill it doesn't need to burn as many pellets to maintain temp. If you like a heavier smoke flavor supplement the smoke with a pellet tube.
If you do smoke on a very hot sunny day, make sure you have the grill in the shade or can keep an eye on it frequently. On a camping trip where it was 95 degrees outside and I didn't have any shade in my campsite, the grill temp was out of control. I had it set to 225 and it would frequently top 320. I had to keep opening the lid to get the temp back down to 225. This was on Mode 2 (not Mode 1 with a constant feed of pellets).
Overall I like the grill, but the latch really bugs me... hence the three stars. All the other things I can live with. It's a 4.5 star grill if it wasn't for the latch.
Brendan Luedtke : Make yourself king of the tailgate
This bad boy is the KING of the tailgate and don’t let anybody tell you different. I wasn’t too into pellet grills till where I work got a small Traeger for us to use on the road, and I realized I liked the flavor of pellet grills but I wanted something quality. I’m very much a buy once buy right kinda guy, and after extensive research I settled on the Grilla Chimp and I couldn’t be happier. The thought and effort put into making this grill work every bit as well as a full sized grill is truly impressive. They didn’t just slap it together and make folding legs like the vast majority of tailgate pellet grills I’ve seen. They put a lot of quality materials into it being a durable and functional grill for bringing with you to tailgate, camping, or wherever you like. It’s set up so one person can set the grill up onto its legs without causing damage to it as well as several nice details added for hauling durability. So far the grill has been at 6 games for tailgating, won a tailgate bbq competition against a full sized Traeger, and was used once or twice a week all through the ND winters.
Which brings me to my last rave about the grill. Everyone I know that has a pellet grill in the frozen tundra needs a jacket for the grill to get up to temp and perform at all after it gets real cold out. Below zero is a massive challenge for many grills. After using my Grilla, I can tell you, having to put a jacket on your grill is adorable. I personally cooked an all night smoke of brisket in a blizzard where temps reached -12 before wind chill without a problem.
This may be a small grill but as you can see from the photo it has the largest cooking area of its class. I’ve fit two racks of pork ribs and one rack of beef ribs on it, a 18 lb brisket (wouldn’t go much bigger than that), and regularly smoke 15 lbs of pork loin with room to spare. Even if you’re looking for a pellet grill for the house this is a great option, especially with the dual mode temp controller. I can go on and on, but the proof is in the pudding. After I bought mine four more friends of mine have bought a Grilla in the 6 months I’ve owned it. You won’t fit 100 hamburgers on there, but you’ll have the best food on the block even if you don’t know what you’re doing! And the wood fire smell will have everyone wishing they had one!
James A. Pierce : I live this grill!
I bought this grill about a year ago off their website, not amazon. I have never had a pellet grill before, I wish I had bought one years ago!!! It is so easy to use, pretty much set the temp and walk away. The flavor is amazing. I use this for my main bbq now, my poor Weber is rarely used anymore. It’s super easy to clean as long as you line the drip piece with foil. It is a heavy grill, lots of stainless steel. I highly recommend this grill!

Mac : Caveat Emptor...
I read a lot on this grill and got hoodwinked into buying it. My sediments are exactly what MRyan stated...the latch to the hopper is askew...@ a 225 setting it's above 300...I have to use a 180 setting for 225...and...adjust the feed-rate to 5...
after the corned beef fiasco*
*I smoked a corned beef for pastrami and had to watch it the whole time, opening the lid every time it went above 20-degrees
It's good for searing a steak as it gets over 500...and the available grill grates are good for searing; l use the flat side for searing, as I could care less for 'grill marks'...oooh...
When I get 'broken-in' I'll update my critique...
In a conversation with tech support I was told 'there was a break-in period'...well, the break-in period, apparently, refers to me having to figure out how to manage this unit...
I take issue with the one review re smoke...my pastrami had a nice light smoke to it...
I gave my Masterbuilt electric smoker away to a friend...I had incorporated the off-set smoker unit from Master built...which I found on many reviews on Amazon...
Michael St. Lawrence : Too hot
I’m giving 1 star because the pit will not cook at a low temperature. When I have it set to 220, it stays above 260. So I essentially bought a smoker grill that won’t smoke. I contacted the company, they sent me a new temperature probe thinking that might be the problem. It was not. They sent the probe ground by the way. So it took a week to get to me. I bought this grill June 10th. I have yet to be able to cook a brisket with it.
Gary : Go for it
Nice little grill, top notch customer service
