Answer: The best blades are carbon steel. They are harder and will hold an edge. Stainless blades are softer and the sharp edge rolls and becomes dull.

Answer: When filleting fish with very small scales like salmon and trout etc. the edge lasts for quite a while. Fish with larger scales like walleyes and northerns I usually sharpen my blade after doing a couple of fish.

Answer: Honestly, it is a little big for panfish “In My Opinion “
Answer: It really depends on how big your fish are, but I use my 7” knife for everything including bluegill, crappie, bass, and large catfish. I don’t know that an extra inch would make a big difference either way.

Answer: I prefer the 7 inch over the 9 inch for panfish.I own both and like the 7 best especially for filleting steelhead.

The knife itself is well built and a moderate value for the money. The knife feels sturdy. The thickness of the handle feels good in your hand. The reason for a poor review is the case: it arrived with the Velcro not sewn to handle strap. The knife is too long for the case and does not seat well; therefore will fall out when placed on my belt.

I have rebelled for years to clean/filet my own fish but recently I was forced to start doing so.. I tried a Kast King 7" filet knife and it was ok for the first 2-3 fish but then I found myself sharpening it already....my friends have been screaming about Bubba for years til I finally tried one.....I'm screaming too now! I feel like a pro with this knife literally sliding thru fish leaving very little meat on the skin. Penn, Power Pro, Uglystiks and now Bubba....anything less is unacceptable!!

I wanted to like this knife... the fit and feel is on point and it worked great for about 20 fish or so... Cleaning a fresh water bass (about 2 lb fish) I inserted the knife alongside the backbone and the blade snapped. Not user error I am sure as I have cleaned many fish with much cheaper knives with no blade failure.
