From the manufacturer
BUBBA KNIVES
Long famous for our fillet knives and as creators of the iconic, non-slip grip we are in relentless in the pursuit of developing the highest quality, best performing and most durable fillet knife on the water. BUBBA first emerged from the coast of California in San Diego—a knife tough enough to withstand the grueling saltwater conditions. Now, we’ve expanded—reaching freshwater and saltwater fishermen all over the world. Our iconic, Bubba Red “Non-Slip Grip” handle and premium razor-sharp steel blades continue to stay at the forefront of our fillet knives.
ULTRA FLEX
The extreme flexibility stands out among its competitors. The sleek, sporty blade cuts precisely for detailing and plucking out bones.
TAPERED FLEX
Our most iconic style fillet knife. Perfect for cleaning all types of fish. Flexibility allows for more precise filleting around bones while providing enough rigidity to slice through heavy meat or cut through the bones of fish. Ideal for salt or freshwater fish.
FLEX
The semi-flexible blade is more lenient than our Stiff fillet blades and is a great option for cutting through heavier meats such as tuna and/or wahoo.
STIFF
The construction of the stiff style fillet knife has little flex, making it controllable and great for any large game fish. It doubles as a great utility knife for meat carvers as the 2mm- wide blade is ideal for precision cutting.
product description

So the blade is coated.tefloned. sharpened. painted and everything else but it's not stainless?

Answer: And that's a problem how? I fish offshore Oregon for halibut, lingcod, rockfish, salmon, etc. This knife is sharp, supple, and dies not rust.
Q:
Whats the best way to sharpen this knife?

Which knife would be best for freshwater panfish? I’m guessing the 7in or the 8in?

Product reviews of Bubba Tapered Flex Fillet Fishing Knife and Tapered Flex Fillet Knife
Grant Hamaker : Great knife
Best knife I have ever used. Very flexible stays very sharp.
carlafinn : Best Knife
These Bubba knives are amazing and worth the cost. They are so sharp and make cutting any kind of fish/meat like you're cutting butter. Awesome quality. Bought for fileting fish but now it lives in our kitchen to even cut prime rib!! Comfortable grip as well.
Maynard smith : ????
Very sharp. Thin blade and flexible.
eftw : DISAPPOINTED ABOUT KNIFE.
Just pull knife from package today (02/18/2021) knife was a disappointment. Was not sharp and did not do the job at all. But it is a pretty red with a carrying case...that all it has going for it. Just found out that I miss my window for returning it or it will be sent back. Think about returning it anyway and just eat the cost. Real bad deal. Very disappointing.
Michael Rotskoff : works well
Worked well for me out of the box.
Sir senor frog : Uncomfortable
Very sharp, great at filleting fish, but has a very bulky handle. The handle is so uncomfortable that you can't use it.
Prentice Pullins (Breeze Life Fishing) : Bubba Blade
I am collecting all of them. This is my fifth one.
Bryant P. : Good for the price
All in all, good knife. Has a good edge but we’ll see how well it holds up as I’ve only filleted with it once. The sheath absolutely sucks so if you can find a good leather one that will fit, I’d definitely recommend it!
Amy S. : Five Stars
Loves his new knife.
dan manley : Four Stars
great
rick : Bubba Blade
The 7 inch is the right choice over the longer blades for me. Any fisherman would be happy with this knife. The handle is nice for gripping and the blade is very sharp. Cuts through fish like hot butter. I have carbon knives, SS knives and the only knife that comes close is the KA BAR knives I have. The Bubba Blade cost a little more but has some features the KA BARs do not have, but both are very good filet knives and are VERRRY SHARRRRP!
Sam : Great item
Great highly recommend this to others
Ted L. : Take this knife anywhere
This knife works great for smaller fish. You can cut as thin as you want and feel the bones as you clean fish. I have an electric fillet knife to and I would rather use this Bubba Blade for smaller fish. The handle fits great in your hand to. Great knife, I would encourage everyone to have one.

We bought this knife to keep on our boat to fillet Kokannee , used it yesterday and this knife is fantastic. It's sturdy, smooth, handle has a great grip. The knife came with a nice sharp edge, we bought the sharpener to go with it, but doesn't look like we'll need it for a while

All in all, good knife. Has a good edge but we’ll see how well it holds up as I’ve only filleted with it once. The sheath absolutely sucks so if you can find a good leather one that will fit, I’d definitely recommend it!
Aniq : Its a ok knife
Not really sure whats the hyper about Bubba, its definitely sharp, but not quite the 50$ tag worth. Built is really good though, so is the grip.
Gary Atkins : Great knife poor scabbard
I love the knife it has great handle and flex able blade. The scabbard is not very good.
Tyler Hudson : Great knife
Worth the money great sharp knife that will last.
LeRoy Robinson : Wouldn't recommend
This knife has no flexibility at all. Its doesn't stay sharp and wasn't that sharp when I got it. Its not a very good knife at all to use filleting fish.
carlafinn : Best Knife
These Bubba knives are amazing and worth the cost. They are so sharp and make cutting any kind of fish/meat like you're cutting butter. Awesome quality. Bought for fileting fish but now it lives in our kitchen to even cut prime rib!! Comfortable grip as well.

Awesome knife to use for fish filleting.
Ernesto L Buenaflor Jr : Very sharp knife
This Bubba fishing knife so sharp and made fillet fish much easy
Herschel Tomlin : Sturdy knife!
Looks good, it’s sharp.. all I need now is some fish!
Travis Honeycutt : Decent knife.
Doesn’t hold up well on camping trips. In that it needs to be cleaned AS SOON as it’s finished being used. Did an ok job at filleting red drum. Better at speckled trout. But has lots of rust spots after a three day trip of island hopping and camping.
Maynard smith : ????
Very sharp. Thin blade and flexible.
eftw : DISAPPOINTED ABOUT KNIFE.

FergyMcFerguson : Great knife
Excellent knife, even for tough to clean red and black drum. Comfortable to hold and grip.
Juron'e : Amazon,has a unbelievable return policy
We love the sharpness and also the great non slip handle
Santiago Ortiz Jr : Poor sewing quality; poor case!
The knife itself is well built and a moderate value for the money. The knife feels sturdy. The thickness of the handle feels good in your hand. The reason for a poor review is the case: it arrived with the Velcro not sewn to handle strap. The knife is too long for the case and does not seat well; therefore will fall out when placed on my belt.
RP amzn customer : cooking
Very nice knife. Really Sharp. Bought my friend one for his BD, he likes it as well.

Nicholas Troiano : how to use it !
Love the handle and places for thumb, and side of fingers. Used it yesterday, Maybe sides of blade should be polished to glide better thru meat.
Gianfranco : A product for life
Nice and big handle to make the perfect cuts.
