Tom : Solid Reel

***Construction***
The reel feels solid, sturdy. It is definitely a Machine Cut Aluminum reel, not die cast (more fragile).
The plastic handle feels ok and gives a good grip.
The Counterweight features a special joint that help block the line, smart and useful. Can be removed.

***Weight***
It is still really light. They did a great job at removing useless weight. The 10WT weight 206 grams, it is very good.

***Design***
Open Frame design. Pretty cool looking :).
All piece are precisely cut and the Spool turns straight, tightly and securely within the frame.
The spool is removed quickly and easily and if needs be, it can switch to right hand retrieve.
It is a large arbor with a V design so it can have fast line pick up and hold a lot of backing.

***Finish***
The finish is not Maxcatch’s strong point. Fortunately it does not matter (quite invisible) but:
The arrows on the Knob makes no sense (literally, + and - indicated in the same directions lol)
It is written "Water Resistant" on the rotor .... as per Maxcatch (I asked them) , it just a design flaw, the reel is fully sealed and SALTWATER Proof.

***Drag***
I didn’t opened the drag, but from what I saw it is very smooth and progressive even under high pressure.
It goes from 0 (totally loose) to Max in 3 spin of the Drag Knob.
It makes a light click while reeling in.
Per spec. the drag itself is a mix of Cork (best max. drag, easy adjustability) and Carbon Fiber (best startup inertia and heat resistance)… so, it could stop a locomotive.

***Saltwater Proof***
Definitely seems like it is Water Proof. The Spool Retaining Cap is embedded in the spool (there is a joint inside) and at 0, the Drag Knob is blocked (it doesn’t unscrew).

***Durability***
Should it last ? Time will tell, definitively seems like it will. What I know is that Maxcatch is claiming it has a lifetime guarantee, and I had to deal with the Customer Service several time, every time they were super helpful and generous so I would tend to trust them*.
They have been in business for 10+ years I believe and they are definitely improving their line of product (from reselling decent quality generic stuff to designing their own).

***Package***
It came with a basic cardboard box, a pretty good neoprene sheet and 100yd of 30Lb backing.

All together this reel seems like a great affordable option compare to much more pricey brands (that are Made in China too). I have great project on going fishing European wels catfish next summer :-).

*As a matter of fact, I bought quite a lot of gears on Maxcatch website (if you follow them on Facebook, they often release decent discount coupon) and I ordered a Sparta reel Blue in 8WT. As the blue color wasn’t available, they offered me a free upgrade to the Sprint Model (pretty nice of them). Then, they wrongly sent me a Sprint in 10WT (sted of 8).
I contacted them, they said they were sorry, told me to keep the reel and sent me a full refund… I don’t know many retailers that would do the same. That is why I trust them.
