Q:
Does this smoker have wheels
Answer: Hi James, this smoker does not have wheels.
Answer: No wheels on this model. You can easily add a cheap set of casters to make it more mobile
Answer: No, it does not. It is very solid, yet easy to move when it is empty.
Answer: No
Answer: No.
Q:
Do you put the wood directly in the Flame Disk Bowl or do you put someting like lava rocks in it first?
Answer: Yes, please put only wood chips or chunks on the flame disk bowl. We do not recommend using lava rocks in this smoker at all.
Answer: The flame area is not designed well for direct wood. Even soaking in water the wood burns up quickly. The lava rock idea might work if you can keep them from falling out the bottom. I have an old water pan from my last smoker and use it for wood, you might also try an old cast iron skillet to set on top of flame disk.
Answer: I typically use aluminum foil to make a bowl to hold the wood chips instead of placing directly on the flame disk bowl. It makes clean up easier.
Answer: Put wood directly in bowl. No lava rocks...….
Answer: Directly in the Flame Disk Bowl
Answer: Sorry, I can't answer this question as this was a gift to my son. He loves it...I can tell you that!
Q:
Can you smoke cheese
Answer: I would have to say no. The lowest temperature you can achieve with this type of smoker will melt cheese. Cheese would have to be done with a passive smoke system/cold smoke system.
Answer: No, not using the burners, cheese will melt. I do use it for cold smoking cheese in it, but you have to get a cold smoking device.
Answer: The lowest this unit reaches is around 200F.
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes

Answer: Yes as long as it is not exposed to very much wind
Q:
Can this be used with just propane and no pellets if you use bottom rack?
Answer: Yes, we do not recommend using wood pellets in this smoker at all. Its is designed to heat using propane and add wood chips or chunks for your desired smoke.
Answer: Yes...the pellets/wood chips only provide the smoke flavor. All the heat comes from the propane flame.
Answer: Yes i put a wood chip tray on the water rack and use propane
Answer: Absolutely. In our catering business we use them as ovens to either bake or warming purposes with just propane.
Answer: I use mine without wood regularly. I do always have water in the pan though.
Answer: yes works great either way
Q:

Answer: Yes, the smoker comes with a shallow chip tray, and a water pan.
Answer: yes it has both, have not used mine but looks like should work good
Answer: Yes!
Q:
What is the highest temperature it gets to?
Answer: Hi Brian, the highest temperature this smoker will get to is approximately 400-450 degrees F.
Answer: The last tick mark on the dial is at 350 degrees, but it rotates further. I think you could get close to 400. I've noticed with the vent in the back, the back of the unit stays hotter (gets more airflow) than the front.
Q:
I am planning on adding this smoker to an outdoor kitchen in a recessed area surrounded by walls. How hot do the sides of the smoker get?
Answer: The smoker sides get pretty warm. It really depends on what and how long you are smoking, if the intent is to place it in a recessed area.
Answer: The smoker gets really hot so I would not confine it or put near walls
Answer: idk exactly but I can touch the sides and top when the smoker thermometer says 225
Answer: To hit to touch. What are the walls made of.
Q:
What's the difference between this and the masterbuilt pro version?
Answer: I did not check my model number.
Q:
What is the difference between this unit and the onw it replaces. There are no reviews?
Answer: i have no idea, honestly. I looked at the new model and compared it to this one. The dimesions looked the same, the way it worked was the same, etc. So honestly, i do not know.
Q:
Where do you put wood chunks or chips for smoking?
Answer: They go in a little stainless steel bowl that is attached to the door
Q:
How to control temperature from increasing or decreasing?
Answer: The built in control on mine works very well at keeping a constant temperature. I installed an aftermarket thermometer on mine. If I set the control knob to 220, the thermometer will read between 220 and 225 pretty consistently.
Answer: Good luck. I had that same problem with mine. Every 10 minutes I was out adjusting the temperature control. Very touchy. I have since upgraded to the Thermotemp smoker. It's the only smoker on the market that has a temperature control and is propane. This one maintains certain temperature, but the dial setting and temperature are about 30 to 40 degrees off. At least it will hold a temperature.
Answer: There is a knob for temp control. Most gas smokers are simply on or off. But any smoker with thermotemp will allow temp control with a knob.
Q:
Can the smoker run on lpg? what is the smoker working pressure?
Answer: They sent me an electric smoker instead of the gas one I ordered. It didn’t work and I’m trying to return it but that’s turning into a pain in the ass.
Answer: it's low pressure <1psi propane aka LPG. see "tinyurl dot com slash propane-mod"
Answer: We use propane. Don’t know pressure. We have Trager now and like it better.
Product reviews of Masterbuilt MB20052318 MPS 230S Propane Smoker, 30" (Newer Version), Black
COREY SPOHN : Smokin’
Works great. I have trees so I used an actual piece of red oak for smoke
Molly Bailey : Great option!
I got this as a gift for my husband and he really loves it! He's found a few hacks that make the water/chip time last a little longer, but overall it is a sturdy design and produces delicious food. It was easy to put together and works well!
David Gardner : So good
I love it it cooks good I can cook 4 pork butts at one time so good
jcs : firebox
the flame disk bowel burned out the bottom, cant find a replacement,
Richard DeBlaker : Must buy
Should bought one years ago
SamIam : Cosmetic Damaged from manufacture - but does the job
Arrived damaged from manufacturer, not Amazon. The doors were dented on the inside and several parts had deep scratches. Definitely not from the packaging itself.
The directions were literally just photos. Not a big fan since I would like words accompanying them - especially since there is room for error since you are assembling the whole thing, including the tube for the burner, wire, etc.
The smoker itself does a great job for what it is, but the heat also gets crazy high. You have to keep the temperature way down (almost off) in order to get it a smoking temperature.
Happy with purchase, not happy with the manufacturing!
Myron J : Easy assembly and works great
After reading other reviews between charcoal, electric, and propane, I decided the propane flame smoker will be the first to try out. I do like the separate lower door to add wood chips. My first attempt were smoked wings using 2 simple ingredients for basting (Maple syrup and sea salt). Came out perfect!!
Amazon Customer : Great!
I’ve really enjoyed this smoker. Easy set up and easy to use.
Lynda Ryan : Best purchase ever.
My first smoker and I love it.
Amazon Customer : Awsome
Easy to use
Leonora Meyer : Great gift
I purchased this for my son, he lives it.
Mark Sarman : Love it!!
Works great! Only thing with a propane smoker to be aware of is that temperatures can fluctuate more than an electric smoker.
Faron Cluster : Very Happy
Received smoker very quickly. It was well packaged and easy to put together. No missing parts or damage. Smoker worked perfect, the first time I used it. If anything changes, I will update my review.

Coldwarkid : Kick as smoker
This thing smokes great. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to get a good smoker. I bought one of these twelve years ago and wore it out. This is a fantastic product.
BonumSufficit : 3 stars to 5 stars using "tinyurl dot com slash propane-mod"
This is a great smoker but with some shortcomings. There is no automatic safety shutoff. There is a small hole next to the burner like it was designed for a shutoff thermocouple, but it's an empty hole. Also, I know there are more expensive propane smokers that will help maintain temperature, but it doesn't take much effort to add one yourself. See "tinyurl dot com slash propane-mod" for a tutorial on how to add a safety shutoff valve/thermocouple and propane flow controller PID. Once you do these mods, the smoker temperature can maintain +/-1F automatically, and you get a safety shutoff valve so your smoker doesn't turn into an accidental bomb.
For the people who complain about fire shooting out from under the smoker, did you follow the instructions and use soapy water to see if there were any propane leaks? For all others, please do your due diligence and ensure the seals are tight, otherwise you have no one to blame except yourself if your smoker turns into a giant fireball.

Andrew : Thermometer is way off!!
The thermometer is way off on the smoker. I smoked a brisket(10lbs) and it read 180 to 200f the whole time. My dual lead digital thermometer both read over 240 for the internal meat after only 4 hours

Jennifer v. : Smoker
It gets up to temperature to high and can’t lower it because it’s on lowest setting
Amazon Customer : Awsome
Easy to use
Dianna : Loved it
Love the memories
gage c. : DO NOT BUY! CAUGHT ON FIRE
Product was good for the first week before IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. I was 4 hours into a cook when the control panel went up in flames. Ive reached out to masterbuilt and they have been no help. DO NOT BUY THIS SMOKER.
Amazon Customer : Cheap made but will work
Didn't come with any instructions and came broken had to screw a portion back together that was supposed to be welded
Jay : Good smoker
All n all, my experience with the grill was great! I am satisfied so far...will update after a few uses.
kimo : Dislike
Dislike it's hard to add more wood chips when hot
Brooke : 5 star

Amazoncustomer75 : Worst smoker ever
THis is the worst smoker ever. The temp gauge is way off and the fire box holder is already rusted after a month and only 3 uses. Would not recommend.
Kristeana Bouyer : Best Purchase EVER
Easy to put together, although the instructions could have used just a bit more text. Once put together, it's super easy to use! Great flavor!
BS : Best affordable smoker that there is
I have owned some version of this smoker for around 15 years now. The propane heat provides a constant temp for cooking while the wood chip pan smokes like crazy. Best 120 you can spend.
Mark Sarman : Love it!!
Works great! Only thing with a propane smoker to be aware of is that temperatures can fluctuate more than an electric smoker.

Kindle Customer : Smokes well but doesn't last!!!
It cooks well, but unfortunatley the longevity of Masterbuilt's propane smokers seems to be very limited. Don't expect to make a good return for the investment. They just aren't built to last. I had issues right away with the regulator. Then the flame disk bowl, and finally the burner box completey fell apart and corroded (dangerous). I really was disapointed with the poor quality of materials. A shame because it actually does do a good job smoking food.
Tapps : MAY EXPLODE
This grill has a cheap floor. When you heat it up ... flames shoot out. It melted my propane line.
The knob that controls the gas is cheap plastic and melted off TWICE.
if I hadn't turned off the gas at the tank .... BOOM !
Avoid Masterbuilt at all costs.
TRS : Love it!!
This is the most perfect smoker! I can put in my meat set the temp and go on about my business!! Low and Slow and so tender and juicy!!
Smokin_chef_jeff : Prevent flare ups below the unit due to spider webs
Folks, I felt compelled to comment about the problems some folks have noted about flare ups below the smoker causing the feed line and/or controls to melt or be damaged. This happens when a spider decides to build his web in the inlet to the burner. Very common if you let it sit outside. Need to take the burner off and use a pipe cleaner to get rid of it. Best practice is to watch your smoker for the first few minutes after you fire it up to make sure all is good. Besides this problem common to all propane smokers this is a great unit for the money. Lots of mods out there like replacing the chip pan with a cast iron skillet on 3/8 diameter 12” rebar over the burner to improve performance
