Answer: Thank you for your question Maria. Our units cannot be converted to natural gas. Our units are tested and designed to operate on LP gas and our company does not do any testing with natural gas, therefore we do not sell a natural gas conversion kit nor recommend the use of natural gas with our products.

Answer: I have not seen any for that smoke but it doesn’t matter. Get yourself a good thermometer. There are tons of YouTube bids to watch. How to bbq right is a good one.

Answer: The sliding adjustable vent is located on the back of the smoker up toward the top.

Q:
Does this smoker have wheels
Answer: Hi James, this smoker does not have wheels.
Answer: No wheels on this model. You can easily add a cheap set of casters to make it more mobile
Answer: No, it does not. It is very solid, yet easy to move when it is empty.
Answer: No
Answer: No.
Q:
Do you put the wood directly in the Flame Disk Bowl or do you put someting like lava rocks in it first?
Answer: Yes, please put only wood chips or chunks on the flame disk bowl. We do not recommend using lava rocks in this smoker at all.
Answer: The flame area is not designed well for direct wood. Even soaking in water the wood burns up quickly. The lava rock idea might work if you can keep them from falling out the bottom. I have an old water pan from my last smoker and use it for wood, you might also try an old cast iron skillet to set on top of flame disk.
Answer: I typically use aluminum foil to make a bowl to hold the wood chips instead of placing directly on the flame disk bowl. It makes clean up easier.
Answer: Put wood directly in bowl. No lava rocks...….
Answer: Directly in the Flame Disk Bowl
Answer: Sorry, I can't answer this question as this was a gift to my son. He loves it...I can tell you that!
Q:
Can you smoke cheese
Answer: I would have to say no. The lowest temperature you can achieve with this type of smoker will melt cheese. Cheese would have to be done with a passive smoke system/cold smoke system.
Answer: No, not using the burners, cheese will melt. I do use it for cold smoking cheese in it, but you have to get a cold smoking device.
Answer: The lowest this unit reaches is around 200F.
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes

Can this keep a consistant temperature under 250 degrees?
Answer: Yes as long as it is not exposed to very much wind
Q:
Can this be used with just propane and no pellets if you use bottom rack?
Answer: Yes, we do not recommend using wood pellets in this smoker at all. Its is designed to heat using propane and add wood chips or chunks for your desired smoke.
Answer: Yes...the pellets/wood chips only provide the smoke flavor. All the heat comes from the propane flame.
Answer: Yes i put a wood chip tray on the water rack and use propane
Answer: Absolutely. In our catering business we use them as ovens to either bake or warming purposes with just propane.
Answer: I use mine without wood regularly. I do always have water in the pan though.
Answer: yes works great either way

Answer: Yes, the smoker comes with a shallow chip tray, and a water pan.
Answer: yes it has both, have not used mine but looks like should work good
Answer: Yes!
Q:
What is the highest temperature it gets to?
Answer: Hi Brian, the highest temperature this smoker will get to is approximately 400-450 degrees F.
Answer: The last tick mark on the dial is at 350 degrees, but it rotates further. I think you could get close to 400. I've noticed with the vent in the back, the back of the unit stays hotter (gets more airflow) than the front.
Q:
I am planning on adding this smoker to an outdoor kitchen in a recessed area surrounded by walls. How hot do the sides of the smoker get?
Answer: The smoker sides get pretty warm. It really depends on what and how long you are smoking, if the intent is to place it in a recessed area.
Answer: The smoker gets really hot so I would not confine it or put near walls
Answer: idk exactly but I can touch the sides and top when the smoker thermometer says 225
Answer: To hit to touch. What are the walls made of.
Q:
What's the difference between this and the masterbuilt pro version?
Answer: I did not check my model number.
Q:
What is the difference between this unit and the onw it replaces. There are no reviews?
Answer: i have no idea, honestly. I looked at the new model and compared it to this one. The dimesions looked the same, the way it worked was the same, etc. So honestly, i do not know.
Q:
Where do you put wood chunks or chips for smoking?
Answer: They go in a little stainless steel bowl that is attached to the door
Q:
How to control temperature from increasing or decreasing?
Answer: The built in control on mine works very well at keeping a constant temperature. I installed an aftermarket thermometer on mine. If I set the control knob to 220, the thermometer will read between 220 and 225 pretty consistently.
Answer: Good luck. I had that same problem with mine. Every 10 minutes I was out adjusting the temperature control. Very touchy. I have since upgraded to the Thermotemp smoker. It's the only smoker on the market that has a temperature control and is propane. This one maintains certain temperature, but the dial setting and temperature are about 30 to 40 degrees off. At least it will hold a temperature.
Answer: There is a knob for temp control. Most gas smokers are simply on or off. But any smoker with thermotemp will allow temp control with a knob.
Q:
Can the smoker run on lpg? what is the smoker working pressure?
Answer: They sent me an electric smoker instead of the gas one I ordered. It didn’t work and I’m trying to return it but that’s turning into a pain in the ass.
Answer: it's low pressure <1psi propane aka LPG. see "tinyurl dot com slash propane-mod"
Answer: We use propane. Don’t know pressure. We have Trager now and like it better.
Product reviews of Masterbuilt MB20052318 MPS 230S Propane Smoker, 30" (Newer Version), Black
Leonora Meyer : Great gift
I purchased this for my son, he lives it.
chazas : Piece of junk
This thing is a piece of junk. In the first three months the ignition wire and sparkler melted. It took weeks to get a response from Masterbuilt, which was only communicating by email. Eventually I got a replacement part. The next year the burner rusted out and refused to burn cleanly, my last attempt to use it ruined my meat by covering it with propane soot.
It’s been sent to the dump and replaced with a more quality unit.
Patricia Bufford : Works Great
Was easy to put together, first use was great, smoked a tri tip & turned out excellent. Due to cold snowy weather I haven't been able to use it, but today is a little better day, going to smoke a rib eye roast. Great recipes on the Masterbuilt web site. I would recommend this product. Will update after smoking the rib eye roast. Update 1/23/20, pic of my rib eye roast , turned out great &tasty.
COREY SPOHN : Smokin’
Works great. I have trees so I used an actual piece of red oak for smoke
CaseyVR6 : Use it often, would buy again (probably)
I purchased this exact smoker from a neighbor who upgraded to a larger pellet-fed unit after one season, so I cannot comment on a "brand-new" unit. However, this was my first smoker and it's an amazing unit. The temperature control can take some monitoring, and if it's breezy out it can (and has) blown out the flame if you're not paying attention. It's also not big enough to do a whole beef brisket unless folded over or cut into two halves, either is acceptable for me, but it will accomodate a whole pork shoulder. I've smoked over 100 lbs of meat in this, including beef brisket, pork shoulder and tenderloin, chicken. I intend on trying cheese soon. It is a fantastic unit, has served me well, and has even (as of last night) survived an encounted with a curious and hungry black bear (the bear tipped it over and bent the arm that holds the propane tank up and at distance). I'd but it again, and recommend to someone trying out smoking, however my next unit will likely be larger and I may also follow suit and upgrade to the pellet model.
BPTIDEFAN : Ready to smoke
Some smoke loss around door, there are adjustments on the latch to tighten it up. The wood pan has large holes that allow the flames to contact the wood (poor design). Soaking wood helps, if using dry wood, consider using foil to keep wood away from, flame. 4 grates make lots of cooking space. Room for a full rack of ribs on each (might get 2 on each if babybacks). I havent tried, but it looks like there is room for 2 Turkey.
Molly Bailey : Great option!
I got this as a gift for my husband and he really loves it! He's found a few hacks that make the water/chip time last a little longer, but overall it is a sturdy design and produces delicious food. It was easy to put together and works well!
S. Still : easy to use
bought this for my husband, he has used it a few times and loves it. Bit of a learning curve, start off with a lower heat and my husband found it helpful to turn the racks as there seems to be more heat at the back, so we had some burnt pieces on the first try.
David Gardner : So good
I love it it cooks good I can cook 4 pork butts at one time so good
the mo : Masterfully smoker
We have used it several times, ribs came out delicious, roast was awesome, my husband absolutely loved it
Jay : Good smoker
All n all, my experience with the grill was great! I am satisfied so far...will update after a few uses.
Laura : Broken Temperature Gauge
The temperature gauge is broken! The box weighed 70 lbs and we live ovserseas (AFB) and there no way we can afford to ship it back plus we used it (how we found out it’s broken.) smokes nice but it’s made pretty cheaply...be prepared to assemble it’s a bit of work.

ROBERT DEWHURST II : No fasteners included
There was no fasteners in the box to assemble the smoker.
Chris E. : Fire hazard
After only two uses, I had a scary flame up issue underneath this unit. I had read about this issue in reviews prior to purchasing but figured it was a rare defect that had been addressed. It is a real hazard with this smoker!
My story: The smoker had been sitting idle for only a couple days when I had gotten up at 3am to smoke a pork shoulder. As I attempted to light it a flame ignited underneath the unit. After quickly shutting it off and validating that the connections were good, I tried again. Same thing. I contacted Masterbuilt the next business day and they told me it was due to a spider creating a nest. I double checked and there was no obstruction in the gas line. I would not recommend this unit to anyone.
Kabrini Manuel : Works perfectly
Everything was very simple to put together
It works perfectly

Amazon Customer : Great smoker
Exactly what I was looking for.
Parrilleros Aficionados : Incompleto
El artículo llegó sin el termometro
Thomas M Clark : Almost perfect smoker
Plenty of space for most smoke jobs. Only issue is that it runs hot even with the valve turned all the way down. I like to smoke meat at 225 degrees but this smoker will only go as low as 245 deg. I guess the regulator could be changed to a smaller one.
Kabrini Manuel : Works perfectly

It works perfectly
Amazon Customer : Cheap made but will work
Didn't come with any instructions and came broken had to screw a portion back together that was supposed to be welded
Thomas w boguslaski : Awesome
The meats turn out delicious
Rich : Got my bang for the bucks
The pan holding liquid is small and having a barrier around it due to the wind helps. I enjoyed it and got a head cold sitting out or hours getting used to it. Now that I have it my next wild pig ham will be even better not that there was any left. My turkey wing jerky (hudge wings) was also a hit and the turkey breast my neighbor ate in two sittings. I do like my smoker and since it will be used 4 to 5 times a year, well worth the money.

nel39k : Great buy.
This is the second Masterbuilt smoker we have purchased. The temperature gauge on this model seems to be more accurate than the previous model but definitely worth investing in meat thermometers. No issues.
Amazoncustomer75 : Worst smoker ever
THis is the worst smoker ever. The temp gauge is way off and the fire box holder is already rusted after a month and only 3 uses. Would not recommend.
Smokin_chef_jeff : Prevent flare ups below the unit due to spider webs
Folks, I felt compelled to comment about the problems some folks have noted about flare ups below the smoker causing the feed line and/or controls to melt or be damaged. This happens when a spider decides to build his web in the inlet to the burner. Very common if you let it sit outside. Need to take the burner off and use a pipe cleaner to get rid of it. Best practice is to watch your smoker for the first few minutes after you fire it up to make sure all is good. Besides this problem common to all propane smokers this is a great unit for the money. Lots of mods out there like replacing the chip pan with a cast iron skillet on 3/8 diameter 12” rebar over the burner to improve performance
Amazon Customer : Wired incorrectly. Almost caused a fire from the melted tubing.
Was wired incorrectly by the exhaust tube. Caused all wiring to melt and almost caused a fire. Was not a good product.
Anita Worthen : It cooks everything evenly.
I use this out camping. I’ve cooked meat and vegetables in this smoker and everything was delicious.
