Answer: No, the Samson Silent only goes to 158 degrees, which may not be a big deal unless you are dehydrating meats which you need about 165 degrees to do safely. The magic mill goes to 167 degrees. It looks identical though and I was wondering the same thing.

Answer: I ran this unit for several days drying my blueberries and my cherries. Sometimes at night I would shut it down while I slept just because. But it doesn't seem to overheat. The temperatures at which foods are dried are fairly low. 100 to 135 degrees.

Answer: If you’re making jerky only with machine. You have to drill out the thermal sensor and move it to outside rear of machine facing out. Just remove back screws unplug from front half. Then look inside at top. You’ll see 2 rivets. Just drill them out, and that will release temp sensor. Mount it to the back section facing outside oven being carful it clears the fan. Plug the wires back in, replace rear. I get 170degrees consistently.

Answer: That depends on a lot of variables: the kind of food, how dehydrated it is, and how it's stored. Fruit leather can last up to a month at room temp, or a year if rolled tightly and frozen. Dried meat might last up to two weeks at room temp, or a year in the freezer. You can google eat-by dates for whatever food you want to dehydrate.

Does what it’s supposed to. It’s massive but light. I have a garden window above the sink so it works well there. Others must have a massive kitchen, use it in the basement/garage, or deal with lugging it in and out of storage. It makes a great storage cabinet while not in use. Watch the garlic. It will destroy your house for days. Be sure to buy only California garlic. The garlic from China (75% of garlic I think) is produced and peeled in horrific conditions and with unregulated practices (slave labor/convicts using their teeth, chemicals, etc). Grow your own to be 100% sure :-)

I got this to dry a bunch of onions I have and then thought this year I could try to do fresh produce from the farm! It worked like a charm and is so much easier than canning! Onions don't need to be blanched so you just cut, lay on trays, dry, and pop them in jars, airtight, and it's done! Easy to store, saves space, and lasts a VERY LONG TIME.

I am giving this product a one star review for one reason only so far. I have not used it at all and it looks like it will do an excellent job. I am extremely upset with the false advertising. The description on this dehydrator claims it is a commercial grade dehydrator but first page in the instruction manual clearly states it is for domestic use only and is not suitable for commercial use. I have highlighted and taken a picture.

Nice Primary reason I bout this one is it is all stainless. Easy to clean and easy to load. My old one finally died after about 15 years it was all plastic and round, it was a first class pain to clean. Temperature control on this one works great. What use to take about 12-16 hours for about 3lbs of meat now takes me about 8 hours for 12-15lbs of meat. I love it so do all my friends and family when they steel the Jerky I make on it. Does fruit wraps roll ups great for grandest kids also. I have had it about 3-4 months so far I love it.

It displays well & is quiet, but the temperature control is has very odd random temp presets. It goes from 135F to 154F, & 104F to 114F. It would be better if the temperature settings were in increments of 5 like every other appliance with a temperature control.

As stated by a number of other reviewers, this unit is good looking, heavy stainless (don't like the idea of cooking in plastic), with a nice control panel, etc.. Our first one had the heating element die after two uses. Contacted the company and asked if they could send a new element. They eventually sent a complete new unit and didn't want the old one returned. After a little more than a year of light use, the new one has also died. They work well when operational but I really would recommend not buying this dehydrator. Just another example of corner-cutting manufacture in the interest of milking a little additional profit. A much more heavy duty heating element to go with the "commercial" box would make this product a winner.
UPDATE: After writing this review, I was contacted by the seller, telling me that they wanted me to be happy and to stand behind their product. They sent me another one (now the third), which seems to work fine. Keeping my fingers crossed that the third time's the charm. Added 2 stars to my original 1-star review.

My previous 10 shelf unit had manual "twisty" temperature settings and timer (that only went to 12 hours). I had to replace the heating coil after about three years of use.
This new unit has been running 24/7 for the past two weeks. With the digital timer (up to 24 hours... much better!) and digital temperature set (although not degree by degree linear) has all the temperature steps one would need.

Based on some previous reviews, I did double-check the temperature settings with an oven thermometer and unlike most others, my unit runs about 4 degrees hotter which ain't no biggy t'all.
I prefer the stainless steel units for ease of cleaning.
The super neato keenest add-ons are the fruit roll-up/drip trays (5 of them) and the fine mesh trays. This opened the door to dehydrating blueberries and other smallish items a regular tray won't hold. Also included was a pair of silicone hand tongs for hot tray removal that you'd probably name kermit one and kermit two when using them for a puppet show.
All in all, dollar value for dollar spent, it has proven itself to me as a great buy. The only element remaining is longevity. Only time will tell, and then so will I re-rate this review should I go south too soon.

I prefer the stainless steel units for ease of cleaning.
The super neato keenest add-ons are the fruit roll-up/drip trays (5 of them) and the fine mesh trays. This opened the door to dehydrating blueberries and other smallish items a regular tray won't hold. Also included was a pair of silicone hand tongs for hot tray removal that you'd probably name kermit one and kermit two when using them for a puppet show.
All in all, dollar value for dollar spent, it has proven itself to me as a great buy. The only element remaining is longevity. Only time will tell, and then so will I re-rate this review should I go south too soon.

Love the stainless! Easy slide out racks. Easy clean up! Simple to set time and temperature. Can load multiple items at once. Which is great for drying foods before they spoil and still get a full load. Makes perfect snacks! Endless possibilities! Love it!!! Kids, grandkids and neighbors love it too!

was excited about this but it doesn't heat up- it has been 131 for 4 hours and pieces of the broccoli are cold? How is that? Fan feels weak. My other machine is a beast compared to this with a very powerful fan.

WOW!! What a great dehydrator. We are so happy with this purchase. We bought several flats of freshly picked strawberries and raspberries. We dehydrated half of the berries and stored in a air tight container. The other half of the fruit we used the recipe (that came with the unit) for the best tasting fresh fruit leather. You do have to add a small amount of applesauce to the berry puree for the right drying time/consistency but you could not taste anything but the berries. After it was dried, we rolled it up with parchment paper and tied it with cotten kitchen twine....great fruit roll ups. This unit is easy to clean and very quiet. It even has a preset timer so you can have it working overnight and wake up to fresh yogurt (recipe also came with unit.) It was a very good investment for our family.
Ren : Issue with temperature presets.
It displays well & is quiet, but the temperature control is has very odd random temp presets. It goes from 135F to 154F, & 104F to 114F. It would be better if the temperature settings were in increments of 5 like every other appliance with a temperature control.

Very quiet. That was one of the musts I had to have. It is in the same area where we watch TV and is barely noticeable. It does an outstanding job dehydrating and it seals up great. The controls are easy to use. Just toggle between the temperature and the hour selection to increase or decrease the temp or time. I spilled raw eggs inside the machine and it was somewhat of a pain to clean. Go figure, right. That was my fault, not the machines. Perfect dehydrator!

I am giving this product a one star review for one reason only so far. I have not used it at all and it looks like it will do an excellent job. I am extremely upset with the false advertising. The description on this dehydrator claims it is a commercial grade dehydrator but first page in the instruction manual clearly states it is for domestic use only and is not suitable for commercial use. I have highlighted and taken a picture.

But not in summer, the humidity (even in the house) seemed to keep things from drying completely... but otherwise, it works great for the other 9 months of the year! I don't mind taking a break in the summer, but if you need it year round, you will need a dry area to use this.

My wife thinks the world is going to end so we bought this so she can dehydrate everything. She has yet to use it and says that she will when the time comes. I told here there will be no electricity when the time comes...only our love!

My first purchase ever of a dehydrater. I bought the dehydrator Bible with it and have gotten started vacuuum packing dryed vegetables and putting them away for a later day or a hurricane or power outage. Works quicker and every bit as good as expected. Excellent purchase.

I bought this machine in January 2018. I have used it twice. It seems like a well made machine; It works well so far. The only thing wrong is the door came lopsided. It seems to close just fine so I think I'll live with it. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Nice Primary reason I bout this one is it is all stainless. Easy to clean and easy to load. My old one finally died after about 15 years it was all plastic and round, it was a first class pain to clean. Temperature control on this one works great. What use to take about 12-16 hours for about 3lbs of meat now takes me about 8 hours for 12-15lbs of meat. I love it so do all my friends and family when they steel the Jerky I make on it. Does fruit wraps roll ups great for grandest kids also. I have had it about 3-4 months so far I love it.

Ok. My 1 star rating on temperature control is based on the standard placement of thermostat, and on the purpose of the machine. Do not miss understand my review. If you are drying beaf and poultry this is the best machine on the market after modifications. It will reach 175 and is whisper quiet. The customer service is second to nun. I notified them the machine didn’t reach the advertised temp and the engineer and service rep handled my issue. When they couldn’t fix the problem they sent me a new machine, at no cost to me. They will mail parts if you’re able to do the repairs. I am ONLY reviewing this machine as I modified it. The company backs their product 100%. Don’t worry about customer service, it’s 2nd to none. If you are doing beef and poultry, do not pass up this machine. Just drill out thermostat and mount it to the back of machine. Simple fix. 10out of 5 stars. If you’re drying anything else don’t modify. It’s perfect. This machine only needs an upgrade on temperature control. They have the customer service, but if you’re a jerky guy you have to modify. It’s simple. Look inside and drill out the rivet. Mount in plastic back and done. Love this machine.

I've had this unit for 2 years and have dehydrated many varieties of hot pepper, tomato, and meat jerky. The results are fabulous, and the machine can be tweaked to your perfect specifications....temp, timing, process. What a great investment! This shipped with plenty of trays and screens to cycle through the wash, and keep the process going full time.

I have purchased two of these units within the past 60 days. The first one worked well, for about a week. It never reached the described 167 degrees, however it did reach about 150; which is adequate (barely) for my needs. I decided to purchase a second, BUT it would not go over 115 degrees, right out of the box. Will have to return both and seek a better solution... It's too bad, as the quality of the cabinet and the sq. footage of drying space, for the money, is one of the better buys. I wish there was a way to contact the seller
