Questions about ICO Upright Vacuum Sealer designed for Sous Vide Cooking, Space Saver Vacuum Sealer with vacuum bags included
Q:
What is the voltage requirement of this? 110V or 110-240V? Thanks!
Answer: 110V. Hope that helps. We love this machine. Works very well.
Answer: It runs of of normal household current list any other appliance.
Answer: Sorry, not a clue.
Q:
What is the largest bag you can use with this machine?
Answer: The pre-cut bags and roll of bags are all the same width
Answer: 7.9" wide is the widest we recommend. Thanks for asking!
Q:
When I manually pump air from bags using a hand pump sometimes juices come out. How easy is this to clean?
Answer: Very easy to clean. Has a pull out drainage container. This works exactly as advertised. A must for your Sous Vide cooking.
Answer: The opening is large enough for me to clean the sealing area with a clorox wipe. Hope that helps.
Q:
How big are the bags
Answer: Quart size unless you get the roll
Answer: They are wide, but you can customize their sizes.
Q:
does it work with mylar bags?
Answer: It's designed to work with plastic vacuum sealer bags only
Answer: Don’t know. Some materials are not good for sous Vide or storage. I would use recommended bags just to be safe.
Q:
Is this sealer compatible with most major vacuum bags?
Answer: Yes, it's compatible with food saver and many other brands including the generics
Answer: Yes, so far it seems to work with most. It’s probably not recommended, but I found it works to reseal Doritos and cereal bags (the thick plastic bags inside most breakfast cereal boxes).
Answer: Yes, but I would highly recommend the ICO bags, that are available on Amazon Prime.
Q:
Does it work with food saver attachments to seal cans?
Answer: Yes it does! You may need the original FoodSaver accessory hose, but you can attached the FoodSaver cans to this vacuum sealer. Thanks for asking!

I have limited mobility in my arms is the bag is easy to get in the sealing slot
Answer: I have not had any problems fitting the bags into the sealing slot
Answer: While not difficult, this model requires the use of both hands to push down the locking mechanisms located at each end. The lock release also requires both hands to release properly. The unit cannot produce a vacuum seal unless locked as designed. Otherwise, I am pleased with the ICO upright sealer. Hope this helps.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes, it’s easy. I push the edge as far as it will go and hold it in position so I can push the button.
Answer: No I would tell you to look for a different type other than it takes a lot of pressure to lock it down it works really well.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the suction Kpa
Q:
How does one create bags from a roll? Does the machine have a cutter? Compartment inside machine to store roll?
Answer: There is no place to store a roll in the machine. You would have to seal one end first and then cut the portion you wanted for your food. Put the food in and then seal or vacumn seal after the food is in place.
Answer: Cut off the size bag you need from the roll, then seal one end by pressing only “seal” on the machine. Then fill it and run it normally. No cutter needed, just stick the top of the bag in the machine. No compartment needed, the roll is separate.
Answer: You need scissors to cut the bags. The machine will seal it.
Q:
Does it seal liquids?
Answer: I haven’t tried sealing liquids but there’ no reason it shouldn’t work. The seal is very secure.
Answer: It can be used to seal jars, but you'll need to purchase special caps.
Q:
Where is this item manufactured-country?
Answer: I believe China.
Product reviews of ICO Upright Vacuum Sealer designed for Sous Vide Cooking, Space Saver Vacuum Sealer with vacuum bags included
Jared : Easy to use, On Par with other vacuum sealers
I have used this for over a year now and I absolutely love it. I live in an apartment with a relatively small kitchen, so this fits on the counter hidden away until I need it. Once you get the hang of it, the sealer is a breeze to use. while it may not have as many features as other brands, the sealer is perfect for any sized bag.
cookiemom : The Sealer is sleak, neat and efficent.
Bought for my husband. He loves it and keeps it on display in the kitchen.
Fettered Raven : Best I've Used
This is hands down the fastest and easiest to use vacuum sealer I've ever used. And the versatility of vacuum canister use is great, too. This unit is Grade A!
Sauder : vacuums and seals at a good level -Wet and dry functionality to help with perils ...
This is the second vacuum sealer I've owned. Although I didn't mind my Foodsaver I was given the opportunity to try this product at a discount and figured I'd see what else is out there in regards to vacuum sealing.
Pros:
-Does what it set out to do, vacuums and seals at a good level
-Wet and dry functionality to help with perils of sealing wet or heavily sauced things (helped a lot with the sous vide banana infused bourbon I make)
- Tall, but not wide, doesn't take up as much as space as my food saver.
- Easy and intuitive to use
- Supports standard sized generic bags
Cons
-The side things you press down before sealing take more force than I'd expect.
- The nature of the device having only a slot to put your bag in makes it hard to tell where the seal is going to end up. I double seal most of my bags and it can be difficult to know where the second seal will be relative to the first one.
Overall, this is a product that achieves it's purpose without issue, looks great on my counter while taking up less space than my old comparably priced Food Saver. Would definitely recommend to a friend who is interested in getting a vacuum sealer.
cwpcwp3839 : Way better than I ever expected!
Okay, I used to own a FoodSaver brand machine and I was never satisfied with it. It did not always seal properly or long lasting. I have only been able to use this ICO machine a few days, but I am loving it so far!!! And it deserves the exclamation points! Seals have been impeccable and the ease of use is excellent. I like the physical shape of this thing and I cannot wait to start using this for Sous Vide cooking. That is my second goal aside from saving money on food, but cooking my meats better too. I will update when I am able to test this part out.
Dr. J. Orr : Upgrading to a Streamlined Sealer
I currently own another popular vacuum sealer. It has been a viable machine and served me well. The ICO was definitely an upgrade to my current system. For as light as the unit is, it has a very sturdy build to it. The thin profile of the machine takes up significantly less space than my older system. The ICO offers similar features to my current system but the addition of a speed control is a welcome addition. Furthermore, having a canister sealer included was a welcome feature. I am now looking for a sous vide system to accompany my new vacuum system. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!
Maida Muratovic : Not worth the money
It hard to use and it doesent seal properly after seali g to times

Amazon Customer : As advertised
I was looking for a vacuum sealer to use for cooking with my new Sous Vide device; I chose this one due to its ratings and cost and so far it has performed well. It is also reasonably attractive and compact. Shipping was easy and the company is very responsive. I also liked the online videos demonstrating the use of the product.

Quality rating: 5
I like that you can select your own size and cut the bags to fit.
Cindy B : Great value! So happy I made this purchase!
I just received my ico vacuum sealer and I love it! I'm so excited for all of the meats I'll be able to freeze and keep fresh! This is going to save me so much money! And it's so easy to use! Beyond pleased!
Joseph : Good
Ok
Em B : Gift
I did not use it myself, it was a gift. They told me it was super and works great. Nothing bad to say about it for now. They got it for Christmas 2018.
rem79 : Great product. Looks good
Great product. Looks good, very easy to use. Space saver, long but slim. Fair price. Let hope it last for a while, time will tell!
Hannah Warren : We have been very pleased with the vacuum sealer
We have been very pleased with the vacuum sealer. I mostly use it to store meats in the freezer (steak and chicken) and also to seal homemade sauces that I freeze, such as pesto and tomato sauce. I have been really pleased with the product, it keeps things fresh and without freezer burn!
Duane L. : More control than Foodsaver. Easier double seals for sous vide.
This review is long overdue. The simplicity of this vacuum sealer is just perfect in my opinion. By not relying on sensors to clamp the bag prior to vacuum sealing, I'm much more easily able to control the location of the seal. This allows me to waste less bag past the seal as well as more easily apply a double seal for long sous vide times or heavier bags. The control also makes it easy to reseal plastic chip and cereal bags, keeping things fresh far longer.
Put simply, by making this a more manual device, it puts the control in your hands.
susan battaglia : Five Stars
Bought this for a Christmas gift and they LOVE it. Works beautifully and is a space saver.
Ashiko : Works well, follow the instructions
This has worked well, once I figured out how to use it.
In particular, as the instructions say, the part of the bag being sealed has to be completely dry, with no oil or water or food remnants. It also helps if there is roughly an inch of bag around the food, so that the textured side of the bag has something to grip (otherwise there ends up being a gap of air around the food).
While this isn’t stated in the instructions, I usually also leave the bag locked in the device for about 30-60 seconds after sealing, to give the seal a chance to set.
I froze several chunks of Brie on October 20. Today, five weeks later, I pulled one out. Both the cheese and the vacuumed bag both look exactly the same as they did when I first sealed it.
I was in for a shock the first time I sealed some soft bread. Squished it down to a lump of dough! But switching over to the Gentle mode helped the next time. The instructions recommend freezing wet foods first, and I think the same suggestion might help for soft items like Hawaiian bread or burger buns as well.
I sometimes use compostable zipper bags for storing food instead of plastic bags. After a couple of uses, they start breaking down, usually toward the bottom where the food sits. I used to toss them into the compost bin at that point. But now I cut off the damaged part, and I use the sealer to make a new bottom, basically turning the quart-sized bag into a snack-size bag that I can use one or two more times. (Of course, I don’t vacuum them, since they’re the wrong kind of bag for that.)
Some people have asked whether the vacuum-sealed bags are reusable. I cannot say whether the plastic itself would be unsafe chemically if you reuse and refreeze them multiple times. But I would say that yes, you can reuse them from a mechanical perspective. Just understand that you lose about an inch after cutting away a sealed edge, so they would get shorter each time you reseal them. And the sealing process may be less effective if the textured area is compromised.
Tammy : Great value. Will use this machine a lot.
Arrived early in good shape. The clamps were a little stiff at first but super easy to use. Very happy.
Alan L. Lopez : works great, and the space saver design is a huge ...
Simple, works great, and the space saver design is a huge benefit.
Peter T. : It's sturdy, well-made
I bought this as a gift for my father along with a sous vide machine, and he loves it. It's sturdy, well-made, and easy for him to use. He likes the fact that it doesn't take up a lot of space and stores easily. The vacuum seals are perfect. No issues at all, highly recommended.
Adam : Simple and Effective
First impression: Out of the box, I was surprised by how slender the unit was. The unit was advertised as such, but I didn’t really expect it to be quite so skinny. I left it on the counter to see if it would avoid the eyes of my wife who hate “clutter” on the counters, but she immediately saw it and banished it to the cupboard, where it fit quite nicely.
Having never owned or used a vacuum sealer, I flipped through the manual briefly to get the basics. Everything seemed straight forward, with a few exceptions. The diagram that described what each button did was very strangely printed and extremely hard to read. Also, the cleaning instructions (important later) where very vague when describing how to clean the inside of the unit.
My intent was to seal a large batch of chicken breasts in a few different bags, for freezing and/sous vide cooking. I seasoned the first set of breasts, slid them in the ICO bag, clamped the sides down, pressed vacuum seal and away the machine went. First bag came out exactly how I imagined it! Super simple, perfect seal.
The second batch is where I hit a snag. In the manual, I had noticed a mention of marinating food in 20 minutes instead of overnight because the unit “opens up the pores of the food”. I assumed this meant sealing the food + marinade in the bag together. I had done something similar when I still used the “water displacement” method for sealing food in a Ziploc bag for sous vide cooking. Unfortunately, when I went to seal the chicken and teriyaki together the unit vacuumed out a significant portion of the marinade before sealing.
This may have seemed obvious to someone with experience, but I had assumed there was a sensor or something that would have stopped the unit. In the end, I had a sealed bag with a small amount of air in it still and a unit with teriyaki all over the inside. I emptied what had been collected in the small try on the back of the unit then tipped everything to that side to would still flow. With no further instruction for internal cleaning in the manual, I slid a moist paper towel through the opening back and forth until I wasn’t seeing any more marinade. I know that there must be some still in there, but we will have to see if it causes problem.
Overall I am happy with the vacuum sealer. Having no experience with other units, I can’t say if its better or worse than anything out there. I can say it is nice enough looking to leave out (if you’re wife allows), and it did what it was supposed to do. The directions leave something to be desired, and I wish there was a better way to clean the inside, but hopefully that will not be an important to someone who does suck a bunch of teriyaki inside.
**I received this unit free of charge in return for my honest review**
Ham Schirmer : Works great
This works exactly as advertised and a perfect companion for the Sous Vide.
Thomas Poulton : Best sealing bags period
I've been vacuum sealing everything with these bags because they are the best for the price and performance you can buy. They just work and have saved me a ton of money on food that goes bad.
Jon : Didn't last long
It worked OK at first but after less than 6 months it is now useless. It now burns right through the sealer bags, leaving holes.
randy a : ICO
Very simple to use....5 out of 5 so far.
Scott : Great Sealer
Works awesome, simple.
Kris DeLaurier : Solid Vac Sealer.
This product works as advertised. I really enjoy its interface(tho, as some have mentioned, the tabs are stiff, at least for now) and i love its quietness. The ability to alter the speed depending on the moisture of the item is very helpful. Although I personally wouldn't leave this product out on a counter top, you certainly could with its good looks. Simple, effective, more options than others...
Judy Shaw : Liked least was lack of
The design. Liked least was lack of instructions
Thomas Poulton : Best sealing bags period
I've been vacuum sealing everything with these bags because they are the best for the price and performance you can buy. They just work and have saved me a ton of money on food that goes bad.
Bill Harrington : Impressive new style sealer!
I've only used it once so far, but I'm impressed! It takes up a lot less space on my counter than previous units I've used and that is a big plus for my workspace. I like the little drain in the back of the unit, easy to clean. Because of the upright style there really isn't a way to incorporate a cutter, but I will get use to cutting the bags. I like the way it has the ability to seal the bags close to the edge, I'm not losing 1" of space like other models and it sounds like a small thing, but it adds up when you look at the price of bulk bags.
I've used it for wet as well as dry sealing and so far it works great. I think for the price it's pretty hard to beat.
Well designed, and I suggest checking out their youtube video on this unit, it's a good demo. I learned a few things from watching that I hadn't thought of before when it comes to things like soup! All in all, a nice sealer!

Amazon Customer : Does not work as stated.
Only used 3 times. Will not lock down and doesn’t not get all air out. Very disappointed
Rizzy : Not that easy to use!
I purchased the ICOnVacuum Sealer for the primary reason of using it with my Sous-Vide.
Here is my feedback:
I have used the vacuum sealer just once, but I must say it was not that easy.
1) The directions on the booklet included are not ideal. For example, there is No way that I can push the two handles on the side at the same time to lock in the bag. I discovered that I have to push first the one on the left, then the one on the right. In that order, it works.
2) the Vacuum-Seal button does not seal! It only vacuums. As soon as you push the release buttons, air goes back into the bag and you have to start all over again. So what I do is first Vacuum the bag, (using the Vacuum-Seal button) and then Seal the bag (using the Seal button).
However, it is a sleek machine that “hopefully” will work better for me. We shall see.
Thank you.
