Questions about ICO Upright Vacuum Sealer designed for Sous Vide Cooking, Space Saver Vacuum Sealer with vacuum bags included
Q:
What is the voltage requirement of this? 110V or 110-240V? Thanks!
Answer: 110V. Hope that helps. We love this machine. Works very well.
Answer: It runs of of normal household current list any other appliance.
Answer: Sorry, not a clue.
Q:
What is the largest bag you can use with this machine?
Answer: The pre-cut bags and roll of bags are all the same width
Answer: 7.9" wide is the widest we recommend. Thanks for asking!
Q:
When I manually pump air from bags using a hand pump sometimes juices come out. How easy is this to clean?
Answer: Very easy to clean. Has a pull out drainage container. This works exactly as advertised. A must for your Sous Vide cooking.
Answer: The opening is large enough for me to clean the sealing area with a clorox wipe. Hope that helps.
Q:
How big are the bags
Answer: Quart size unless you get the roll
Answer: They are wide, but you can customize their sizes.
Q:
does it work with mylar bags?
Answer: It's designed to work with plastic vacuum sealer bags only
Answer: Don’t know. Some materials are not good for sous Vide or storage. I would use recommended bags just to be safe.
Q:
Is this sealer compatible with most major vacuum bags?
Answer: Yes, it's compatible with food saver and many other brands including the generics
Answer: Yes, so far it seems to work with most. It’s probably not recommended, but I found it works to reseal Doritos and cereal bags (the thick plastic bags inside most breakfast cereal boxes).
Answer: Yes, but I would highly recommend the ICO bags, that are available on Amazon Prime.
Q:
Does it work with food saver attachments to seal cans?
Answer: Yes it does! You may need the original FoodSaver accessory hose, but you can attached the FoodSaver cans to this vacuum sealer. Thanks for asking!
Answer: I believe so, It comes with its own adapter to seal cans.
Q:
I have limited mobility in my arms is the bag is easy to get in the sealing slot
Answer: I have not had any problems fitting the bags into the sealing slot
Answer: While not difficult, this model requires the use of both hands to push down the locking mechanisms located at each end. The lock release also requires both hands to release properly. The unit cannot produce a vacuum seal unless locked as designed. Otherwise, I am pleased with the ICO upright sealer. Hope this helps.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes, it’s easy. I push the edge as far as it will go and hold it in position so I can push the button.
Answer: No I would tell you to look for a different type other than it takes a lot of pressure to lock it down it works really well.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the suction Kpa
Q:
How does one create bags from a roll? Does the machine have a cutter? Compartment inside machine to store roll?
Answer: There is no place to store a roll in the machine. You would have to seal one end first and then cut the portion you wanted for your food. Put the food in and then seal or vacumn seal after the food is in place.
Answer: Cut off the size bag you need from the roll, then seal one end by pressing only “seal” on the machine. Then fill it and run it normally. No cutter needed, just stick the top of the bag in the machine. No compartment needed, the roll is separate.
Answer: You need scissors to cut the bags. The machine will seal it.
Q:
Does it seal liquids?
Answer: I haven’t tried sealing liquids but there’ no reason it shouldn’t work. The seal is very secure.
Answer: It can be used to seal jars, but you'll need to purchase special caps.
Q:
Where is this item manufactured-country?
Answer: I believe China.
Product reviews of ICO Upright Vacuum Sealer designed for Sous Vide Cooking, Space Saver Vacuum Sealer with vacuum bags included
Justin Setchell : I had previously been using a Cuisinart vacuum sealer and while I liked this new product and it has a few features ...
I got this vacuum sealer because it was billed as specifically designed for Sous Vide. I had previously been using a Cuisinart vacuum sealer and while I liked this new product and it has a few features my Cuisinart doesn't (such as moist and gentle settings), I think I will be sticking with my Cuisinart for my primary vacuum sealer. Over all the product is pretty good though, here is what I like and disliked about it:
Likes: Looks good, I think the design is sleek and stylish Small footprint, takes up little counter space Gentle and moist food settings, for sealing soft foods or food that have been in a marinade Creates a good strong seal, doesn't feel like it will leak, on my Cuisinart I often do two or three seals as backups Well constructed, seems solidly made
Dislikes: Locking handles are too hard to push down, everything I was pushing to the point where I thought they might break before they locked Can't tell if I'm inserting the bag far enough, I had to stop sealing multiple times and unlock and reinsert the bag when it wasn't sucking out any air. This happened on on more than on occasion. I wished it pulled a stronger vacuum, obviously it pulls a weaker vacuum on the gentle setting, but even in normal mode, I wish it sucked a little harder, this is the main reason I'll be sticking with my previous vacuum sealer.
Overall it looks good and gets the job done. It has good features but ultimately leave just a little to be desired performance wise.
julie : Works great
Works great and easy to use.
rem79 : Great product. Looks good
Great product. Looks good, very easy to use. Space saver, long but slim. Fair price. Let hope it last for a while, time will tell!
Matty : Great design, quality parts and easy to use.
I received this Vacuum sealer from ICO to test and review. First off this machine is built as well as it looks. Its very modern and sleek and beautifully designed. I love the vertical design so you can insert the bags right in without having to line up the bag and lock down a hinged top. Some of the vacuum sealers out there feel cheap and flimsy but this unit is very solid with quality made parts. It has a very simple and easy to use interface which is touch sensitive. no buttons to push down just lightly touch your finger on the setting which. It does require a little bit of force on the side handles to lock down but its not that bothersome. the two side buttons to release is very easy and solid whereas my other sealer has flimsy buttons to release. As far as features it has just the right amount of functions for sealing with normal/gentle and dry/moist depending on the application, It also has a hose for vacuum sealing canisters which a lot of other sealers don't have. I currently don't have any canisters but its something i plan on getting. You can also seal snacks as well so they don't get stale. It works great sealing a bag of potato chips! One feature i would like to see is a manual vacuum function to ensure it sucks out enough air however every piece of meat or vegetable I have vacuum sealed has worked perfect every time. I hit the button and it sucks just the right amount of air out for a snug fit and automatically seals it. It works very well for sous riding. The bags included are great and its nice to use for sous-viding without worrying about harmful chemicals in plastic like BPA leaching into your food. Perhaps my favorite feature of the unit is the liquid box. I had issues before with blowing a fuse after liquid getting in my other sealer but having this feature you can drain any liquid out put pushing in the box and it slides right out. That feature makes this device worth it alone. Overall I am very impressed with this unit. Its very well built and designed and works perfectly as intended. For the price its better than most of the competitors on the market.
Liz Brandt : Five Stars
Works well, keeps food fresh!
Em B : Gift
I did not use it myself, it was a gift. They told me it was super and works great. Nothing bad to say about it for now. They got it for Christmas 2018.
Amazon Customer : As advertised
I was looking for a vacuum sealer to use for cooking with my new Sous Vide device; I chose this one due to its ratings and cost and so far it has performed well. It is also reasonably attractive and compact. Shipping was easy and the company is very responsive. I also liked the online videos demonstrating the use of the product.
Madlib : Five Stars
If you are just starting to try sous vide cooking look no further. I used to have a hand me down vacuum sealer that worked right maybe 60% of the time. This sealer has yet to give me any issue.
Nadine Callihoo-Hansen : Great value
Who says that you need to spend a fortune to get great products?! This vacuum sealer is a little slower than my last one but has the same great end result.
Mary W. : so its pretty much a snap to use
Works perfectly. I got started without even really reading the manual, so its pretty much a snap to use. I'm using it to keep so many things fresher, longer. Its a most useful thing to have.
Madlib : Five Stars

Karin Sobeck : Takes a little extra shove into the sealer and then ...
Takes a little extra shove into the sealer and then holding the bags taut while sealing. Wish there were wider bags available.
Jared : Easy to use, On Par with other vacuum sealers
I have used this for over a year now and I absolutely love it. I live in an apartment with a relatively small kitchen, so this fits on the counter hidden away until I need it. Once you get the hang of it, the sealer is a breeze to use. while it may not have as many features as other brands, the sealer is perfect for any sized bag.
Sauder : vacuums and seals at a good level -Wet and dry functionality to help with perils ...
This is the second vacuum sealer I've owned. Although I didn't mind my Foodsaver I was given the opportunity to try this product at a discount and figured I'd see what else is out there in regards to vacuum sealing.
Pros: -Does what it set out to do, vacuums and seals at a good level -Wet and dry functionality to help with perils of sealing wet or heavily sauced things (helped a lot with the sous vide banana infused bourbon I make) - Tall, but not wide, doesn't take up as much as space as my food saver. - Easy and intuitive to use - Supports standard sized generic bags
Cons -The side things you press down before sealing take more force than I'd expect. - The nature of the device having only a slot to put your bag in makes it hard to tell where the seal is going to end up. I double seal most of my bags and it can be difficult to know where the second seal will be relative to the first one.
Overall, this is a product that achieves it's purpose without issue, looks great on my counter while taking up less space than my old comparably priced Food Saver. Would definitely recommend to a friend who is interested in getting a vacuum sealer.
Stephanie : Amazing product!!!
Works very well! So happy with this product and highly recommend for the BEST sous vide!!! Have been using it since I got it in 2017. Never fails me!!
Vicki L. Freeman : Buy one now!
I had an old one this is superior! No air left!
Cathy H
Amazon Customer : Does not work as stated.
Only used 3 times. Will not lock down and doesn’t not get all air out. Very disappointed
randy a : ICO
Very simple to use....5 out of 5 so far.
cookiemom : The Sealer is sleak, neat and efficent.
Bought for my husband. He loves it and keeps it on display in the kitchen.
Tammy : Great value. Will use this machine a lot.
Arrived early in good shape. The clamps were a little stiff at first but super easy to use. Very happy.
Darren O'Neill : Excellent Vacuum Sealer That Takes Up A Small Amount Of Counter Space
I have to admit I put off getting a vacuum sealer because I figured that they would be a pain to use, clean and store. When I saw this unit took up a lot less shelf space to store I figured I would give it a try. Where most vacuum sealer units have a wide footprint this one is a bit different as it has a form factor with a smaller base that extends upwards.
The controls are really easy to understand and use. For most things, you will choose between moist and dry and then hit the vacuum seal button. The unit feeds easily as all you have to do is slide the open end of the bag into the slot until you can't feed anymore in then lock it down by pressing the level on each side down at the same time.
I show the unit working in my video review, I highly recommend you check that out if you have a few minutes.
I like that you can also seal chip and snack bags with this device, as long as the bag is plastic based this device will heat and seal the bag. The instructions don't recommend using the vacuum mode with snack bags but I had pretty good results doing so. Your mileage may vary.
Overall, this device makes vacuum sealing food quite easy. It's a pretty quick process and you can easily store this unit on the countertop when you're not using it. Highly recommended.
Roger Bivens : Better than expected.
If you’re into Sous Vide this is the one you want. Easy to use and works perfectly. Looking forward to saving those Costco bulk buy items that never seem to last in Tupperware.

plantsinthe_house : Not really happy
The 2 levels on each side are really hard to press so much that to enable the locks to engage before us, you'll habe to push them together at the same time. If pushing one level at a time with both hand fingers for more hand strength, the unit will tip off balance and lift on the other side. Trying to hold the unit down you accidentally pressed the seal button prematurely. Other top cover down type model is a lot easier, stable and nit risling breaking off the levels.
It also give you FALSE expectation telling you to give them email for a review, and only after you took the time and efforts, they withdraw this offer and not to give you the free 50 bags worth approx $15 on market. The included bag included is only 6 feet sample. If they so wish to change this offer, they should bot put these card in the unit. Card didn't say any expiration of offer. Quality not as good, explains why the price is lower than others!
Abad0n : Good no-frills Vacuum Sealer.
This is a space efficient vacuum sealer, it lacks a few of the bells and whistles of a food saver, such as plastic roll storage and a cutter for cutting the rolls, but other wise it's a pretty good sealer. The design takes a bit to get used to since it can be tough to tell when the locking bar is fully locked, but unlike foodsaver, it does allow you to rapidly re-seal w/o popping the lock. I used both Food saver and some cheaper vacuum seal roll i bought here on amazon. Traditionally speaking the cheaper bags always had issues sealing on my food saver, and i'd need to hit the seal button twice. This vacuum sealer still needed to hit the seal twice, but unlike my food saver, being able to hit it as soon as the 1st seal finished allowed me to actually get a complete seal. At this point i've used this to cook about.. 8 meals in my immersion circulatory and feel it does a good job over all. My recommendation is that if you buy this, switch from rolls to pre-cut vacuum bags, That way you have clean edges since this lacks the ability to cut and store the rolls.

Fonctionne pas très BIEN
NICK : disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't like anything! it doesn't seal! NOT RECCOMENDED!!!!!!!!
CatfishMuffins : It Sucks
Works great, I use it once a week for meat and have been extremely impressed.

Rick Brewer : Works great with a Sous vide.
I bought this ICO Vacuum sealer to use with a Sous vide. I bought a couple ribeye steak, a couple thick pork tenderloin and some chicken breast. Some of the meat I marinated and some I didn’t. It did a great job sealing all the bags. The ribeyes look like there were professional sealer. The vacuum sealed bags do a great job with the Sous vide. I’m looking for more food to vacuum seal and use with the Sous vide.
Rada B. : The bags are thick and seal very well!
Great product and very well made bags- we are enjoying using them.
Angela : 5 I like that you can select your own size and cut ...
Quality rating: 5
I like that you can select your own size and cut the bags to fit.
Steph : Looks great, small footprint, better results
I've been using this vacuum sealer to marinate, freeze, and sous vide both meats and vegetables. I am the type to plan one big shopping trip per month and then freeze whatever I won't use in the first week. I often make big batches of an entree then seal and freeze half for another time. I marinate, cure, and dehydrate lots of foods, like jerky or corned beef from scratch. The best is when I can put a dinner-sized portion in a marinade, vacuum seal, freeze, then sous vide straight from the freezer whenever I'm ready.
We have a small kitchen and it's usually taken up with my sous vide container, dehydrator, meat slicer, and stock pot. Another large ugly piece of equipment was not something I wanted. This vacuum sealer has a very small footprint for what it does and it actually looks nice. It's also not heavy so I can store it in a lower cabinet easily.
As for how well it seals, I've had zero problem getting a good seal each time. The plastic roll is very sturdy and you can choose how long to make the bags - short for two chicken breasts, longer for a (narrow) brisket. I use the smaller plastic size and wouldn't try to put in something wider than 6 inches, though it could certainly be longer than 6, but that covers pretty much anything I want to seal. The machine will take bags 12 inches wide, which I haven't tested yet.
I particularly like the different wet and dry settings, since I often seal wet things. I didn't have the same issue another reviewer had with the machine sucking out the marinade, though I've had it suck out a little, not even as much as my old FoodSaver did. The tray to clean wet waste is tiny and pops right out, and wasn't close to filled. The manual itself says to pre-freeze liquids which would be the most foolproof.
This is a great addition to my cooking arsenal. I much prefer it to the vacuum methods I was using before. Everything is sturdier, cleaner, faster, and even looks better. The price is really good for the quality you get, and the items I freeze are more protected, which means better quality when we finally eat them.
Judy Shaw : Liked least was lack of
The design. Liked least was lack of instructions
Ashiko : Works well, follow the instructions
This has worked well, once I figured out how to use it.
In particular, as the instructions say, the part of the bag being sealed has to be completely dry, with no oil or water or food remnants. It also helps if there is roughly an inch of bag around the food, so that the textured side of the bag has something to grip (otherwise there ends up being a gap of air around the food).
While this isn’t stated in the instructions, I usually also leave the bag locked in the device for about 30-60 seconds after sealing, to give the seal a chance to set.
I froze several chunks of Brie on October 20. Today, five weeks later, I pulled one out. Both the cheese and the vacuumed bag both look exactly the same as they did when I first sealed it.
I was in for a shock the first time I sealed some soft bread. Squished it down to a lump of dough! But switching over to the Gentle mode helped the next time. The instructions recommend freezing wet foods first, and I think the same suggestion might help for soft items like Hawaiian bread or burger buns as well.
I sometimes use compostable zipper bags for storing food instead of plastic bags. After a couple of uses, they start breaking down, usually toward the bottom where the food sits. I used to toss them into the compost bin at that point. But now I cut off the damaged part, and I use the sealer to make a new bottom, basically turning the quart-sized bag into a snack-size bag that I can use one or two more times. (Of course, I don’t vacuum them, since they’re the wrong kind of bag for that.)
Some people have asked whether the vacuum-sealed bags are reusable. I cannot say whether the plastic itself would be unsafe chemically if you reuse and refreeze them multiple times. But I would say that yes, you can reuse them from a mechanical perspective. Just understand that you lose about an inch after cutting away a sealed edge, so they would get shorter each time you reseal them. And the sealing process may be less effective if the textured area is compromised.
Nadine Callihoo-Hansen : Great value
Who says that you need to spend a fortune to get great products?! This vacuum sealer is a little slower than my last one but has the same great end result.
Charles M. : Easy to use.
This product is saving me money weekly. I sealed several pieces of fresh fish over a month ago and ate the last one last night. As fresh as the first. That never would have happened without the Vacuum Sealer.
The VMs : Slim and unobtrusive, as effective as its competition, recommended
We are a family of five. Costco has a large percentage of our paycheque and we cook most of our meat with a sous vide. Suffice it to say, I use a vacuum sealer regularly. The first was an old ProLock** (similar to most base model manual versions). Eventually, its heat element failed. It was replaced a few years ago by a FoodSaver**** 2 in 1 automatic (insert bag, vac & seal hands free) from Costco for about $150. A base model from Aldi*** (the Kitchen Living line, about $25) is the emergency back up. So my review of the ICO Sealer is is tempered by my experiences with the other two (the PL gets 2/5 stars, the fancy FS gets 4/5, and the base KL gets 3/5 for reference).
In general, this is a sleek and slim appliance. It almost has the appearance of a slim line toaster. It is easily 1/3-1/2 the size and footprint of the FoodSaver. There are locking levers on each end that require some force to close and lock. The unobtrusive release buttons are under the levers. The vacuum and seal buttons are on the top as well as selectors (gentle vs regular, dry vs wet). To use, insert the end of the bag into the slot on the bottom and use both hands to depress the locking levers. Then make your selection: I was sealing raw duck legs and breasts, so I used regular and wet. Then press vac and wait. The vacuum extracts the air* (*most of the time, see "suck" section) and then seals the bag. When the lights turn off, press both release buttons and remove the bag. If any liquid is extracted, there is a very small tray in the back that collects it. Simple! But is it better than my others? Let's see...
Suckiness (because, face it, that's its purpose): I tested several different bags with three different foods. And, honestly, there was no difference between the "suckitude" of the ICO, the FS, and the KL. All three were loud when vacuuming, all three extracted 99% of the air with a slice of Italian bread, 90% from duck breast (very squishy), and 80% from the duck legs (tricky due to the bones). Pic included.
Sealing ability: all three left a nice even strip about 2.5-3mm in diameter. This should be sufficient for most sous vide applications, but for high heat of long cooks, you might want to place two lines. All sealers require the plastic bag be dry at the sealing edge, but the ICO wasn't any more picky than the others.
A note on bags: I tested the ICO included bags, FS brand bags, Aldi brand bags (Boulder), and ProLock bags. The first three all worked well in all three sealers. The last one... well, my PL bags are super picky. The FS refuses to seal them. The KL seals but doesn't always vacuum them. The ICO sealed them beautifully (yeah!!!), but refused any attempts to vacuum. I tried multiple bags and rolls, multiple attempts, but no dice. No idea why.
Of note, when you press the "seal" button, the machine vacuums for a second or two first. This is better than the FS, where I have to press seal as the vacuum mechanism starts automatically. But the KL will seal without vacuuming. Another reviewer mentioned this issue as well. A bug? Don't know.
Pros: sleek and slim. Tiny footprint. WAY smaller than my FS model. If you want to keep this on your counter, it's both attractive and unobtrusive. It's a bit bigger than my base KL model, but only in height and width, not depth. I keep mine in a cabinet at it fits well. The ICO wins that round.
Cons: it doesn't vacuum my old PL bags! Well, that's a bit nit picky. Actually, the cons are all a bit shallow. The levers to lock require a fair amount of strength to depress and both they and the release buttons require two hands to operate. The seal only button vacuums for a few seconds first.
Would I recommend it? Well, yes. If you are in the market for a sealer, the ICO is great. It's small, attractive, and works as well as its competitors. If you have a base model sealer now and want to upgrade, this is a fine choice. If you have a fancy sealer already, this one is equivalent so I'd recommended as a replacement when your current one bites the dust (the heat strip of any sealer will eventually fail).
tl;dr: a great sealer for its price point, attractive with a small footprint. Four stars only because it didn't seal every tested bag nor get out all air (though my fancy FS doesn't either). Recommended.
Gift Castell : It is really easy to get bags properly positioned for a good seal
It is really easy to get bags properly positioned for a good seal. From what I’ve read and seen, it can be tricky to get other brands to seal well. I think the only times I haven’t gotten a great seal, I’m pretty sure I pushed the release button before it was done, so user error.
I love the size and shape! It fits very neatly in my cabinet when not in use, and doesn’t require much counter space when I do get it out. It’s super easy—just plug in and go! The options it offers seem to work well and are easy to figure out (not so many choices that I agonize over which would be best, but enough to work with everything I’ve tried so far).
I really like that it is pretty universally compatible with bags and rolls.
rem79 : Great product. Looks good
Great product. Looks good, very easy to use. Space saver, long but slim. Fair price. Let hope it last for a while, time will tell!
Roger Bivens : Better than expected.
If you’re into Sous Vide this is the one you want. Easy to use and works perfectly. Looking forward to saving those Costco bulk buy items that never seem to last in Tupperware.
Randy : The directions were simple and easy to follow
I just received an Ico Vacuum Sealer as a gift. I was impressed right away with the quality of construction and the ease of use. The directions were simple and easy to follow. I was able to vacuum seal the leftover Christmas prime rib...and use it a couple days later for terrific cheese steak sandwiches!
Great product! Thanks!

John : Cautiously optimistic
Ok, we decided to give this vacuum sealer a " second chance", we sealed a bag of rice and a pound of stale coffee( making sure there was no chance of off gas that happens from freshly roasted beans) 5 days has gone by and the seal remains tight and uncompromised . These tests are important as it is valuable food that you are storing " assuming" that it works. I will return to this review after a month, 3 months and then a year. to update the review
Attached is a quick video, you will see one bag of basmati rice sealed, a bag of regular coffee beans from a freshly open bag re sealed and lastly on the very left a bag of freshly roasted coffee that is " gassing off" CO2 inside the bag, the seal is still strong and viable. A side note for fresh coffee roasters, if you do manage to get your coffee sealed immediately after the beans have cooled, the " gassing off" process can be delayed by sealing off the beans from any oxygen and thus keeping them fresher, longer. If you wait a day or 2, the gasing off process will have initiated and you will get what we have in the video.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
