Questions about Total Control 1/2 x 1/8 Black Hi Temp BBQ smoker Gasket Self Stick15 ft LavaLock
Q:
Is this the right product for my Weber Kettle? Also should it be adhered to the lid or to the base kettle?
Answer: Hi,
Answer: I would install to the lid as that is where the flange part of the kettle is.
Q:
Can i use this on my fire box as well?
Answer: No, the firebox gets too hot. The adhesive hardens and flakes off. This is good for the cook chamber.
Answer: I would say yes. I would also say to follow directions from the manufacturer and be sure it is clean and at least room temperature when you install this. Seemed to lower the leaks in my WSM although not completely eliminate it. Realistic expectations required.
Q:
I have a camp chef smoker - will this gasket work well around the door?
Answer: It should. You might want to measure door width. Gasket works pretty good to hold in smoke. Give it a try.
Answer: I'm not familiar with your grill but it should work with any grill. I used it on my Pit Boss Classic and have enough left to do another one. As long as your grill has a flat 1/2" surface to stick it to. I did the lid.
Answer: I used it to seal the door of my smoke hollow and it works fine.
Answer: I don't have that type of smoker worked on my treager, and my vertical smoker
Answer: I used it for a Camp Chef Smoke Vault, and it worked great.
Answer: I would imagine so. I used this on a barrel smoker with great results.
Answer: It worked for me!
Q:
Is this gasket made of fiberglass?
Answer: No this is a high temp felt material. It is designed for cook chambers and doesn't shed a lot like fiberglass can. Its also self sanitizes at temp!
Answer: I dont believe so. Its a very thin spongy roll that you would use to plug up holes around a window ac unit. The one thing I do know is put it on from the very get go. Dont wait and put it on after 1 or 2 smokes. It did not stick at all.
Q:
Good for traeger 575?
Answer: Should be good on any smoker. est mod ever made.
Q:
Even though my Smokey Hollow did not come with a gasket can I put this around the door to stop the smoke from coming out?
Answer: Yes, I did it with my Oklahoma Joe, and it works great. Just dont use it on a firebox, it's not good for very high temps.
Answer: YES FireBlack® is the way to go for that smoker.
Answer: That's what I did with my Oklahoma Joe and Traeger Smokers... Works Great
Answer: Yes. It sealed my GMG pellet smoker very well.
Answer: Yes it works great, my only regret is my smoker should have had this installed at the time I put it together.
Answer: I'm doing the exact same thing. Also sealing the joint where the firebox attaches to the grill body
Answer: I don't know about your model but I've used it on my grill and smoker with good results
Q:
What is the longest (meters) lavalock available? Do u support international shipping? What is the highest temperature can it with stand.
Answer: With Quantity we can make anything.. The standard roll is approx. 5 meters. We do ship internationally to most countries. temp depends on the material. range is around 6-800 constant cook chamber temps up to 2300F excursions.
Q:
Wanting to put this on a traeger lil tex. is this wide enough and will it stick to a 4 year old lid that has been cleaned up?
Answer: the width is 1/2 inch so if you have that much space or more, your good. as long as the surface is clean it should
Q:
whats the max temp this stuff can handle?
Answer: Hi,
Answer: All I know is it is designed for high heat. I used it to seal the lid on my smoker grill and I have been over 600 degrees several times and it looks like it did the day I put it on .
Answer: I THINK IT IS AROUND 500 DEGREES
Q:
Is the self adhesive rated at these temps as well? i'm looking to put on the firebox lid of an oj highland offset, not sure if i should use high temp
Answer: I have used my tape with no problems. My smoker temps anywhere from 150 to 300 degrees. Should be no problem.
Answer: I used it on the opening to my pellet grill and have had temps as high as 550 the tape has held up well
Answer: This stuff is 100% junk! I bought 2 rolls. I had to replace it in 2 burns. Do NOT buy this crap!!!!!
Answer: it will hold up. i put it on my offset fire box. works way better than the braided stuff
Answer: It works fine on my Traeger Smoker and Oklahoma Joe's Smoker/Fire Box
Q:
Will this fit the hood & bottom on a char-griller smoking champ?
Answer: Hey Carlos There was enough to do both. I only did the hood. Thats one of a few mistakes I have made jumping into the smoking meat party. Another thing I didnt know was you need a heat shield to work property. The model I bought did not come with one so I fashioned one out of aluminum flashing and wow what a difference!
Q:
Can we see a copy of the instructions? Mine got torn up.
Answer: I do not have the instructions 2 things Put it on before you use the smoker and put it on lid
Answer: I'm not even sure if mine came with instructions. Just peel and stick. Make sure whatever your sticking it to is clean. Use scissors to cut to length.
Answer: I don't have mine, but it is pretty easy to explain. I'm assuming this is going on a BBQ or smoker. I used this on a Recteq 700. Make sure the lid is fairly clean, use a degreaser to remove any heavy build up. Let it dry for a few hours. Install the seal on the inside edges of your lid. You can cut pieces to size, pull off the backing and press it on. Close the lid and let the stuff sit for 24 hours before you do any cooking, making sure to avoid any rainy or very damp days to do the project. After that you are good to go.
Answer: It’s self stick. Peel the back of the strip and press o to the grill where you want it.
Answer:
Answer: If you zoom in I think you can read it it's very simple. Take the old one off and clean the surface with a food-safe grease remover then apply the new one
Q:
What is it made out of? Silicone or felt
Answer: felt. we also sell silicon bbq gaskets under the LavaLock brand
Answer: It is a heat resistant felt, made to be used as a smoker gasket.
Answer: Definitely felt. Holds up very well. This is the second season with this product in use with my two smokers. No sign of the felt detaching, seal is great and allows the thermal cables to not be pinched by the door.
Answer: It looks like A felt type Material...
Answer: It is made from a felt like material.
Answer: Feels like felt.
Q:
In the directions it says wait 12-24 hrs after application before you heat it. Has anyone not waited 12 hrs and still had good results?
Answer: the adhesive is pressure activated, so the 12-24 hours allow the adhesive to adhere properly
Answer: I never even saw that 12 to 24 hours. I used my pellet grill probably just a couple hours after I installed it. It's been on for a year now and no problems at all
Answer: I waited for the time they recommend, the gasket needs to seat properly before it’s exposed heat. Just apply and shut the lids or wherever it was applied so it stays put. You can probably fudge a few hours if you’re really antsy.
Answer: I didnt read the directions but installed it the day before I used it
Q:
How long is product?
Answer: Approx 15 feet, I bought 2 rolls and had lots left over,my smoker is a cowboy 3 chamber . You defiantly need this tape!! Clean the surface thoroughly don't apply to the door! Apply to the stationary surface.dont over stretch it! This is a great product.
Answer: 15 ft long. Have to cut to whatever size you need
Answer: 15 feet
Q:
Can this be used to line the seam between the firebox and the smoking chamber on a side smoker?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Should work, we used it on the lid of our smoker for a better seal, and it worked great. Very durable product.
Answer: I USED THE PRODUCT FOR MAKING A BETTER SEAL AROUND THE LID OF THE FIRE BOX AND AROUND THE SMOKER GRILL LID,HOWEVER I USED RED HIGH TEMP RTV SILICONE SEALANT BETWEEN THE FIRE BOX AND SMOKER WITH NO TROUBLE FOR A GOOD SEAL.HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL.
Answer: Don't waste your money on this product. It burns off, even in the lowest temperature area of your smoker. I tried it and it's junk. I ended up going to tractor supply and buying non-fiberglass gasket for a wood stove. Buy the smallest gasket that they have and you're going to be pleased. It may cost a little bit more, but it's there for the duration of your smoker!
Answer: Yes, thats what i used it for.
Answer: I don't see why it couldn't. It can be trimmed with a pair of scissors; and then placed where you need it. As long as you can see where to put it; and if it sticks and stays where you put it -- then it should do what you want.
Answer: I don't see why not...
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is this the right gasket for a Weber Smokey Mountian?
Answer: This gasket will fit any smoker, it's heat resistant adhesive tape. Works pretty good to hold in more smoke and heat.
Answer: First, I'd hesitate to say it's perfect for everything. However. If you have a lot of smoke coming out of a closure (door, lid, whatever), this stuff in is going to make that stop. Permanently. Note that my vertical smoker has latches that assist in the seal, but that was part of the magic.
Answer: Should work across the board. It’s just a tape that you unroll and adhere to the frame of the under side of the lid to create a better seal and lose less smoke.
Answer: This is a standard high heat adhesive felt sealer and should work on any unit where the lid overlaps the grill. I use it on a Traeger smoker and works fantastic. Now the smoke exits the stack and not around the lid
Answer: It should work fine. The roll can be cut to various lengths
Q:
Can I put this in a gas door oven stove
Answer: This may not hold up under the heat in an oven or stove. If the original gasket was a similar material it should be OK.
Answer: I don’t know any reason you shouldn’t.
Q:
Will 1 roll be enough to seal each layer of the Weber 18.5 smoker?
Answer: YEs it will! thanks
Q:
Is this necessary or optional?
Answer: Its optional but if you want your smoker sealed well, this works great.
Answer: Optional. It just keeps the smoke from going out the doors
Answer: Yes to both. Depending on how much smoke actually escapes your smoker while the lid is closed, this may be a good option. If you don’t really see any of your smoke escaping with the lid down it’s probably unnecessary. If you do have smoke making it’s way out, this will help seal the lid so you get a better smoke, and deeper flavors on the meats/dishes you’re smoking.
Answer: Optional, I did it because I live in ND and I was trying to keep some heat in.
Answer: Well It is helpful Problem is 1st, make sure you put it on BEFORE you ever fire up smoker. I forgot and didnt put it on until my second time using the smoker and it never really stuck the way it should have. 2nd, it didnt really totally prevent smoke from coming out. I use a bungee cord with a bucket of golf balls for extra weight to keep it fairly sealed. Problem now as i have used the smoker 10+ times is this seal is melting and running down the front of smoker and bucket. So I dont want to tell you yes but I would. It just wont seal it totally
Answer: Its not required but it is nice to have to help create a better seal around the door of the smoker.
Answer: I would install the tape, helps seal in the smoke and manage heat better.
Q:
What is the cleaning procedure to get this to adhere? Recommended cleaning method?
Answer: I cleaned with a wire brush, scotch-brite and dawn dishsoap, then rinsed thoroughly and made sure it was 100% dry before I applied the seal. Worked great.
Answer: As long as it is grease fee you are good.
Q:
What is the difference between fireblack125 & fireblack hi temp?
Answer: Hi.. FireBlack is offered in different sizes. Each listing differs in size.
Product reviews of Total Control 1/2 x 1/8 Black Hi Temp BBQ smoker Gasket Self Stick15 ft LavaLock
dan gray : works as advertised
Installs easily and performs task
sherman : works great
does what it is supposed to do
TheyCallMeMom : Stovetop downdraft
Used this to seal off the gap between our gas stove top and downdraft grate. The downdraft was pulling in our burner flames and causing uneven cooking. This has made a huge difference. It sticks just fine to our glass stove top and fits in the gap. It was the perfect purchase for this quick fix.
B. Douglas : Worked great on my pellet grill
I have a Camp Chef PG24SE pellet grill. The first time I used it I noticed quite a bit of smoke coming from around the lid, and was concerned this was taking smoke away that could be going into the brisket I was smoking. Searched Amazon for some high temp weather stripping and came up with this stuff. Worked like a champ and I had drastically less smoke escaping the next time I smoked some meat.
Dan : It Works!
The reason that I gave it a 4 star rating; rather than 5 stars. Is that the directions on installing a grill cover layer, & a grill body layer are not clear about when to do it or not do it. On my grill it didn't need the grill body layer; as it then wouldn't shut tight when closed. It should say do the grill cover layer first; and then shut the grill cover to see how it fits. Then decide if you need to do the grill body layer. It is a minor problem that just requires the removal of the grill body layer. Other than that it works perfectly!
tswing : Outstanding product
Prior to using this, smoked exited the smoker all over the place. Once installed, smoke was only released from the stack. I even used it around the temperature probe hole in place of the rubber grommet that broke after about 2 uses. Also over the top portion of the grease tube. Much better heat control. A must have improvement to your smoker.
Stephen Spann : It really works
It did the job that it’s supposed to do
Matthew M. : Still holding up well after several uses
This gasket makes the door seal up tighter to keep the heat and smoke in. Makes my smoker more efficient.
xlenske : Very thick
This gasket is very thick. I literally took a stone and place it on top of my grill while smoking a brisket, so I ended up buying latch locks. Brisket came out great none was left and no smoke left the chamber with the stone layered on it. lol... I have a Oklahoma Joe so the steel is very thin, so the door of the grill doesn't have the weight to forced the seal needed.
Chris Henningsen : Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched
Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched, and once it's adhered, it does not come back up, so make sure you put it exactly where you want it. Was the perfect length for my smoker door
robert johnson : Great value
Works well. Make sure you clean the surface of the location.
michael bright : Doesn't stick very well
The sticky side is barely sticky at all
Surfer Joe : Very Helpful
I used this product to seal the lid and side smokebox door on a Recteq RT700. It works very well. I now have zero smoke coming from these locations and more coming out the smoke stack and grease drip, where it should be.
This product is cheap and easy to apply. Note the directions for good results. Clean the surface well, wait 24 hours with door and lid closed before next smoke. Don't rush it. The smoke level absolutely improved.
a coleman : Sealed my smoker
I read the reviews just like you are doing now. It does stick very well and works very well...if you do it right from the start. Don't get in a hurry, slap it on and go smoking. Clean your area first!! I used another way to seal the smoker and it did not work. So mine is 2 years old and been used a lot! So I took blue dawn and a green scratch pad and cleaned the lip areas and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. You are getting my point. I let it dry completely...for hours! Once completely clean and dried I applied the seal. I only cut through the seal not the plastic. I unrolled short sections and applied apx 6 inches at a time to make sure it was straight. I waited 24 hrs to cure and MAGIC. My smoker door and fire box door leaks no smoke. You get in a hurry and don't clean properly you will be disappointed. Do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again. If it's a brand new smoker you are ahead of the ball game.
James Ray Poynter : Great product
A great product! Sealed my lid for my smoker. Now the smoke rises and goes out the smoke stack. Only dislike of the product the backing on the tape is hard to get started. But well worth the trouble!
Ed Corrigan : Great Product Easy To Use
The gasket material came with a 1" lead of just the paper backing which made it easy to separate it from the gasket material (some users complained of having problems in getting the paper backing off of the gasket material). Cleaned the surface, then cleaned with alcohol and put on the gasket as recommended about 4-6" at a time to get it on straight along the edge of the grill lid then let it sit for 24 hours as recommended. Fired up the Traeger to cook some bacon, the gasket stayed in place and sealed the grill really well. Great product!
Chris Henningsen : Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched
Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched, and once it's adhered, it does not come back up, so make sure you put it exactly where you want it. Was the perfect length for my smoker door
Luis Tambunga : Great value for the money
As must have for the Weber kettle or any other grill you want to seal up or smoke with. You can easily do 2 grills with one of these rolls.
iRägeouS : Garbage- will ruin/stick to your bbq pit!
This gasket is garbage, was excited as it see
To go on well and seal well- but item stuck to my grill! This this was not made for high heat! I do not recommend buying this- look at my pictures!
Chris Henningsen : Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched
Installation was easy. Does not like to be stretched, and once it's adhered, it does not come back up, so make sure you put it exactly where you want it. Was the perfect length for my smoker door
Timothy : Keep the smoke in.
Insulate your smoker quickly and easily with this tape.
PezLee : Reduces smoke leakage
On the smoker we bought the door was bent to a different radius than the barrel so it leaked badly. Using this, we drastically reduced the smoke leaking out the door but the gap is so large in one section that is was unable to completely prevent it.
I will try to update this in the future as durability of the adhesive backing against the heat can be determined.
dan gray : works as advertised
Installs easily and performs task
Cefwa : Works as advertised if properly applied.
Added this to the doors of my Smoke Hollow smoker. I still have a few small leaks I blame those on the construction of my cheap smoker. At least a 90% improvement over the way it was.
It holds temp at noticeably lower settings, ant the temp is more stable. I'm also getting a much better end result .
I saw several reviews saying the product woulldn't stick. I cleaned the area with 409 and a scotchbrite sponge then followed that with a good scrubbing with alcohol soaked steel wool. Allowed it to air dry for an hour or so and applied the tape to both doors. Then let it sit 12 hours before use. It has been through 7 or 8 heat cycles so far and is still holding strong.
Bill Brown : Great product.
This was easy to use. We put this around the doors on the Dyna-Glo offset smoker. It sealed the doors where needed. We recommend!
KjLg : Somewhat disappointed
Easily installed but doesn’t live up to the expectations as presented.
Nathan : Did the trick.
Worked well for sealing the door on my traeger. It could be a little stickier, but after using the grill a few times it hasn’t come off at all.
sherman : works great
does what it is supposed to do
Dasian : Must have for New Smokers
Put it this way. If you have a smoker. Especially if it's brand new. You need this. This will seal your firebox and cooking chamber. No one wants to lose heat/smoke due to the doors not being airtight. 10/10 would recommend.
Mark : We’ll see how it works next time I use it
We’ll see how it stands up, hopefully it will stay stuck
Cefwa : Works as advertised if properly applied.

J. Davis : Does the job
I just received this and attempted to seal the door of my smoker and unfortunately it doesn't stick. The adhesive is way too weak so I will have to find a stronger adhesive to apply.
UPDATE:
I had originally given this product 1 star but I used my smoker for the first time since applying this and the adhesive seems to have cured after heating up. It seems to be pretty secured to the smoker and it doesn't look like I need to apply the adhesive.
In any event, I smoked a brisket yesterday for about 8 hours and this gasket did a perfect job of sealing the doors and preventing the lost of smoke around the doors.
Codie : ☝️????????????
Worked great I have an old custom smoker I restored
The door was leaking smoke/air badly
Problem solved with this heat tape????????
a coleman : Sealed my smoker

Customer : Not for medium temps or hotter!
I ordered two 15 ft rolls to seal a barrel smoker. I cleaned all areas that would have the gasket material applied. It went on easily, sealed the seams quite well, and fell off halfway into its first use. The temperature of the smoker section was around 225 degrees. Of course the firebox was hotter, but by no means what I would describe as HOT. I ordered another brand of gasket, and as soon as it arrives I will pull what Fireblack gasket remained in place off of my smoker.
Tracy Krebs : Tricky at first
Worked to slow the escape of smoke from my pellet grill. It was really difficult to take the paper apart from the sticky back without tearing the sticky off of the gasket material. Once I was able to figure that out it went pretty well. It definitely works. Kept much more smoke inside the grill.
Frank N : Gets the job done
Installed this around the door edges of my new RecTeq 590 pellet smoker. Easy to unroll, cut, measure, and install. Adhesive seems like it’s more than strong enough. I immediately noticed that it completely sealed the gap around the door and prevents visible smoke from escaping. Most of my smoking is between 225 and 275 degrees, but I’ve done some cooks as high as 400, and the adhesive seems to be holding up just fine.

STANLEY DREWERY : Heat sealant tape
Make sure the surface is clean when applying. Item does not hold up, melts from the heat. Next time I will buy wider and ticker material.

Clarissa Cordova : An amazing gasket!
This gasket is amazing! My electric smoker would leak from the edge close to the hinge. After adding the gasket no more smoke except from the vent on the back.
Install was easy. I followed the directions on the bag I use a green scouring pad with simple green let it dry then cleaned it with alcohol and it stuck right away with out coming back off.
All in all it is totally worth the money I only ended up using about half ot the roll so I will probably understand up using the rest on the weber kettle!
dennis klein : Works perfectly
Worked perfectly to seal up the lid on my z grill no more smoke escape and I think it helps keep the heat in also I measured then used a scissors to cut each piece around the lid then I added another strip onto the grill just at the bottom where the lid comes down because that was a wide Gap it closed it up perfect
jeffrey silva : Works perfectly if you know how to use it
Worked perfectly. However you must degrease the area if grill is used if not only rub area good with alcohol and I highly suggest buying 3M adhesion promoter, they sell it in 3-5 pack you only need a little. Anyways you don’t have to make square cuts to make turn you just need 3M stuff and it will stick like no tomorrow plus what you don’t use you can save and it’s safe on any surface.
Herb Friedrichs : Not for a smoker
This was no good for my smoker as some pieces are falling off.

Ryan Yeaglin : Good product, the sticky backing is super sticky
Good product, the sticky backing is super sticky. Be sure to use scissors and a sharp knife to separate the backing from the gasket.
