Questions about 1/2" x 1/8" Lavalock High Temp Nomex BBQ HT gasket smoker seal, self stick grey
Q:
Do you place the gasket in between the lid and the outer shell of the smoker or on the "ledge" where the lid sits when it's inserted into the smoker?
Answer: On my Smoke Hollow grill, I placed the gasket the outside perimeter of my smoker and charcoal grill where the lid rests when I close the lid.
Answer: I placed mine between the door edge and the smoker barrel. Just be sure to brush it down to bare metal and clean with alcohol before application.
Answer: Not sure what brand or type of smoker you have. On mine, the lid basically just overlaps the body of the pit, so I just had to stick the gasket to the lid on the inside so it created a seal when the lid closed. It is two smooth surfaces coming together that I had to seal up. You might want to talk to a local dealer, or better yet, someone who manufactures the smoker you have or something similar and see what they recommend. Good Luck!
Answer: I have a Smoke Hollow grill with hinges on the back of the hood. I installed the gasket on the perimeter of the bucket where the grates are and where the lid rests when closed. Directions say to let cure for 24 hours, did ribs after that, worked perfectly. I would suggest cleaning the mating surface first, I used alcohol and removed all existing grease.
Answer: my application was not on a smoker but a powder coating oven. So unfortunately i can be of no help to you
Q:
If I purchase 2 will both ship together for $4.62 total shipping?
Answer: You are not going to be charged double the shipping. Usually there is a very small charge for the second item. You should be able to see the total shipping you will be charged before completing the order.
Q:
I have a camp chef dlx, would this gasket cause any issues with the door being able to open?
Answer: opening the door is no problem but i have the same smoker as you and I shimmed the two hinges with washers to raise the hinge so the lid would seal properly. I'm super happy I put this gasket on the smoker.
Answer: I have a Camp Chef Lux and I works great, it does take a little time to wear in so it seals up even as the lids do not have a consistent gap all the way around. However, it seals up much better with the new seal.
Answer: I had to shim the two hinges with washers so it will close properly. I recommend putting on a gasket so you will retain 90% of the smoke.
Answer: the gasket will work for any grills and smokers.
Answer: I used it on a brinkman two door vertical smoker and it works perfectly
Answer: Yes it will just needs to break in to have a better fit.
Q:
Would this fit on a Traeger 22
Answer: yes
Q:
Have a new smoker. Does it have to be seasoned before applying this gasket?
Answer: No it doesn't. It should be applied to a clean surface so the gasket sticks to the metal. I actually used a degreaser on mine before applying the gasket to make sure it was 100% clean.
Answer: I would recommend that you not season it before you install the gasket, you want the surfaces clean as possible. Prep the surface with rubbing alcohol, let dry. Then apply silicone very carefully. Let set 24hrs. Then season your smoker.
Answer: I wouldn't suggest it. I applied my gasket to a new smoker/bbq, and it worked fine. If you wait until it's seasoned, I'd recommend cleaning the surfaces thoroughly before applying the gasket.
Answer: Yes season your smoker first.
Answer: No. I put mine on and let it sit for 24 hours and then seasoned it.
Answer: No but if you do just wipe the edges do with alcohol to clean the excess oils off before applying
Q:
Will this work well on a oklahoma joe judge grill?
Answer: Yes...!
Answer: Yes any grill
Q:
How well does this work on a camp chef sg24?
Answer: I can’t tell you. I am using it for a Oklahoma Joes highland and it does work great.
Answer: Works fantastic on WeberGrill 22”. Don’t know about Camp Chef.
Q:
Would this work on the RecTec 590?
Answer: Yes just cut to the length needed and apply the adhesive strip
Q:
How high is ultra im thinking about using this as a seal for a blacksmithing forge im going to make?
Answer: I do not remember seeing a temperature range on the packaging but I had my grill at 500 degrees for a few hours to burn off any chemicals inside. I typically have it at a 200-300 degree range. Once you stick it on it is not coming off. I did test a piece with a blow torch and it held up very well.
Q:
Will this fit pitboss austin xl?
Answer: I believe it will. You can measure the lid circumference and get the length you need for sure.
Q:
Will this gasket stick to wood?
Answer: If the wood is dry and cleaned with alcohol yes, it will stick, you could also lightly sand the wood where you want this to adhere. This is a high temp gasket not really for a flammable application.
Answer: Has a really good adhesive on the back so I would assume it would just fine.
Answer: If it were finished and smooth i bet it would. it's pretty sticky. But porous unfinished would? Can't say for sure.
Answer: It should
Answer: I believe so but don't know for sure.
Q:
Will this fit the char griller super pro 2121?
Answer: Yes it should
Q:
What is the maximum temperature for the seal? Will it work on a firebox close to 1k F at peak
Answer: Probably not, but it depends on the cooker. LavaLock XTR is a higher temp rating, or type in LavaLock Firebox gasket in the amazon search
Answer: Personally I would not recommend putting this on a firebox. Not that this product would not be able to do the job. However if you’re trying to seal the firebox you should spend the money and get the same type of seal that you see on your stove or oven.
Answer: I used it on a smoker with a max heat of 350 f there was no perceived damage at that temperature.
Answer: Did not last past the third time I smoked meat. Became hard and brittle and fell off. Would no recommend for a high heat smoker. I never heated mine past 325 degrees and it did not last.
Answer: The packaging says 800 f.
Answer: The package says 800 degrees.
Q:
Is this safe to use for both the cooking chambers and the firebox? Seems to me the firebox would need something that could withstand more heat.
Answer: It's great for around the cooking chamber, however, I would use a fiberglass rope (used in fireplaces) for the firebox. This can be purchased from amazon, Ace Hardware and many other places.
Answer: I used it on the firebox and cooking chamber. I've smoked with it on both doors at least a dozen times, it's still stuck on and sealing the doors.
Answer: I installed it on both the fire box and cook area and have not had an issue, but I must qualify I have only used the smoker 3 times but it's holding up good so far.
Answer: i have used it for both
Q:
Can you self clean oven?
Answer: Not sure but can u self clean my oven??
Answer: I self clean my oven as my neighbors won't do it for me.
Answer: No ma’am!
Q:
does this work for a oklahoma joes highland smoker?
Answer: This is similar to what we offer for that grill. It will work, but we have a actual gasket kit for that smoker that we recommend and support. Thank you -Island Outdoor, LLC
Answer: Any smoker that needs gaps filled to keep the smoke where it needs to be, this product will go a long way to achieve that.
Answer: yes
Q:
Do I need a different gasket for the firebox on my offset?
Answer: The Lavalock, while rated for high temp (800 degrees), but is not enough for the fire box. It is more for use to contain the smoke from escaping the cooker portion. To seal the firebox (not sure that is necessary), one would need to use the 1200 degree rope type of gasket that gets glued in place. Again, not sure that is really necessary. If the offset is functioning correctly, the majority of the heat should be drafting towards the chimney. The rope stuff is pretty thick. As such, you will likely not be happy attempting to seal the fire box door............. Good luck !!!
Answer: No, it will work...may have to double up on the larger gaps. Been real plsd w/this gasket mat'l!
Answer: No
Q:
how long is the roll? I have a char griller pro
Answer: 15 feet. we sell a complete gasket and toggle kit for the chargriller 8125, call us for cust service
Answer: I believe mine was 14-15 feet.
Answer: About 14'
Q:
Has anyone used this on a 22 inch Weber charcoal grill?
Answer: No I have not.
Q:
will this work on a weber kettle 22"
Answer: Yes it will, however we have another material that we like a little better for the Webers, because its a touch softer. FireBlack 12 (1/2 x 1/8). call us for details. thanks
Answer: You'd have to measure the circumference of the bowl to see if there is enough on a roll and also figure out if the cover of the BBQ is heavy enough to weight the tape to provide an effective seal. It's worked great on my Mastercraft smoker. Sticks really well and provides a really good seal when the doors are latched.
Answer: Yes. I have a 26.75 and there was plenty left. Make sure the cover is clean, don't put it on the bowl. Put it on without stretching it and pull the paper back as you go.. Put the cover back on and let it sit 24+ hours so the adhesive sets.
Q:
will this work on TEC grill ceramic burners
Answer: I purchased this for the doors on my Smoke Hollow smoker and it works great for that. The smoker does not get as hot as the TEC grill burners. I would buy the gaskets designed for the TEC grill so you end up with a burned gasket after one use.
Q:
I just recently purchased an Old Country Brazos smoker and it leaks of course. My question is will this work on the cookong chamber and the firebox?
Answer: I used it on a brinkmann vertical two door smoker, firebox and cooking chamber, it worked great. Hope that helps
Answer: As long as there isn't any old seal in the way then yes. I recommend you get some grill clamps to clamp the lid down and get an even better seal
Q:
Willl this work on a Chargriller smoker and griller Model pro 29 and the smoler fire box?
Answer: Hi,
Q:
Has anyone put 2 pieces on top of each other for larger gaps?
Answer: I personally have not but if you're trying to fill in a gap, you're better off sealing with a high temperature epoxy. These things will eventually burn off and you will be back to square one. To make a good seal, I suggest the epoxy and then these pieces.
Answer: I have and it worked just fine for me. For thin gauge you can take sheet metal hammer and bend it a little to help close the gap a little tighter
Answer: I have thought about it due to one leak, but I don't want to warp it and cause another. Put a filler of rtv under the low spot, then apply seal strip on top.
Q:
dumb question but when installing does the tape go on the lid or on the body of the smoker
Answer: Not a dumb question at all, but I have always put it on the lid because then you know it is in the correct position to be lined up and effective. If it were out of line on the body, then you may have leaks.
Answer: Fire box can be on the body. Cook chamber on the lid for sanitary reasons.
Answer: I placed it on the body. it fits perfectly on lip of my Okla. Joe smoker..
Answer: Generally we prefer the lid to keep drippings off. but if there is a channel, you can also apply in there.
Answer: On the body, so the lid seals when closed
Answer: On the lid. If your cooker is used, clean it off the lip very well and end with rubbing it with alcohol. That will take off any oil that will prevent the adhesive from sticking. Apply the tape by just a bit at a time. Pull the paper off as you go. Do not stretch the fiber as you apply. Put the top back on the grill and let it sit 24 hrs. so the adhesive has time to set. You will be good to go.
Answer: I have a camp chef and installed it on the lid. My thought was the weight of the lid would help with seating the seal ovee time. I am sure both ways would work. Just make sure the surface is scrubbed clean. Good luck!
Answer: body of smocker
Answer: On the body
Q:
Why does the description say 14' and the pic says 15'? Which one is it?
Answer: it is 15 feet thanks!
Answer: Didn't notice
Q:
Will this work well with the char-broil simple smoker with smartchef technology thanks in advance
Answer: I would say yes. I am starting my second BBQ season since I sealed the cooking chamber door on my Oklahoma Joes Smoker and is working really well. Make sure where you are putting the seals, that it is as clean as you can get it.
Answer: I have no idea what a "Simple Smoker" is. I use it to stick to new aluminum and it sticks just fine.
Q:
Will this fit 36" vertical dyna glo smoker? Can I season before applying?
Answer: You can season before you apply gasket. Just clean the area the gasket will be attached. If your smoker requires a 1/2x1/8 gasket, this one will work.
Answer: Not sure about that smoker, I suppose it would, it's just a roll.. measure across the grill and multiply by 3.14 and see if it'll be long enough of a roll.. and would clean the area very well before sticking it in place.. seasoned or not. Just make sure it has a good clean area to adhere to
Answer: Make sure clean surface ,the one roll should fit.measure out fit your pieces, apply close, lock door let set .then season.makes .Good luck enjoy .
Answer: Yes it will fit. I'd suggest applying before seasoning, and fully degreasing application areas with paper towels and running alcohol. A bit of good prep will ensure the tape stays stuck ages longer than it otherwise would.
Answer: I'd measure how much you need then buy the appropriate amount of seal. I highly recommend sealing first then seasoning.
Answer: No reason why it wouldn't work. Need to clean really good so it will stick. Maybe rubbing alcohol.
Q:
Has anyone used this on the firebox lid? And is it flammable?
Answer: I have used it on the firebox lid. It is not flammable.
Answer: I am using it on an off set fire box and smoke chamber. Works great.
Answer: I have used it and so far so good.
Q:
Will this work with the Kamado Akorn?
Answer: This is a all around gasket that has many applications. I would imagine that it would seal the top and bottom of the Kamado.. If that is what you are after. I used it to seal the opening of a off set smoker... Worked great.
Answer: I do not have a Kamado Akron and have never seen one in use, so I have no idea if it would work or not
Answer: we have a better gasket for that. thanks BBQgaskets_online (Island Outdoor, LLC)
Q:
New grill/smoker. should rtv silicone be applied before attaching gasket? if not, what is rtv used for?
Answer: Hello, this is a self stick premium adhesive bbq gasket. rtv is not needed. Some of the LavaLock gaskets require rtv. You can use LavaLock rtv grill sealer to plug up holes, gaps and leaks as well
Answer: You don't have to use both of them. This has an adhesive that sticks to the grill. I have had mine around the door for over a year and it has never come off. I would only use the silicone around stuff you want to permanently seal. Use this product around areas you need to access again.
Answer: No Rtv is needed with this gasket as it is sticky backed. You need to clean the area good with something like mineral spirits before you attach it. The RTV is used if you are attaching a rope style gasket.
Answer: It can be applied if wanted but is not needed, gasket material is self adhesive and stays put very well.
Answer: We didn’t and it has held up great. The lid on our smoker wasn’t sealed fully, so we lined it around the opening.
Answer: The felt gasket has adhesive backing to stick to the door jam.
Q:
Is the adhesive backing strong enough or did anyone have to by a silicon, food grade adhesive also? This will be for a customer built steel smoker.
Answer: I installed the gasket on my brand new WSM, perfectly clean surfaces, and let it cure for 48+ hours before seasoning. The smoker has never gotten above 300 degrees and yet the adhesive failed after only three uses. I'm awaiting a response from the seller. Worst case scenario, I'll get high-temp silicone sealant to keep it in place, but I won't be buying this brand again.
Answer: I would use the type that needs the silicon adhesive. I used the type without, and it didn't hold up. It worked for two 6 hr. Smokes & peeled right up.
Answer: I used mine straight from the package, no additional adhesive. I did clean and sand to bare metal and wiped it down with alcohol as directed. I also let it "cure" for 24+ hours before using it. Since then, it has given me perfect service and not come loose in any fashion. I have had 6 or 7 cooks and as many smokes since installing it. I also keep it outside under a good quality cover on the pit. No problems at all!
Answer: No additional adhesive was needed, I've grilled 4 times since installing and the heat further seals the adhesive backing-- works great and allows you to smoke meat and control the heat significantly better.
Answer: My smoker is steel. The adhesive worked well, I did clean the surface really good prior to application
Answer: I think it's strong enough. Apply before you season it so it will have a nice, clean surface to adhere to. That will be an advantage for you.
Answer: Hello, this is LavaLock Brand, in other words, yes it won't fail! It exceeds every other gasket brand by over 400F higher. -BBQsmokerMods online, a division of Island Outdoor, LLC
Answer: No, it's not strong or thick enough.
Answer: 15 feet. I did two 22 inch lids and the rotisserie ring as well.
Answer: No Jeremy. I have had mind around the door of a Masterbuilt for 2 years now and doing well.
Q:
Should this be installed on the lids to the smoker and firebox or to the channel on the smoker/firebox?
Answer: I have a Weber Smokey Mountain smoker which does or seperate firebox with a channel. I would say that this product is designed to seal any gaps that may be leaking smoke around areas that open and close like a door or lid.
Answer: lid or body on the cook chamber. we recommend LavaLock firebox gaskets for the fire box thanks
Answer: To the firebox!!
Q:
What is the difference between gl-1/2 and ll-nl12? which one would be better for my wsm 22 door?
Answer: Per Lavalock - the LL-nl12 is their "BEST Quality", that model is 1' longer, but same height and width - Either should work out great for your door(make sure surface is spotless)
Answer: The GL is rated to 800 degrees. The ll-nl is “ultra” high temp. The GL should be fine but if the price is about the same, the ll wouldn’t hurt anything and good at a higher temp. It should work on your door just fine unless you have a huge gap, which would be even a bigger problem than any similar product could solve.
Q:
Does anyone have experience using this with the smoke hollow sc44 smoker cover for 44-inch smoker/grill
Answer: It's easy to use and works good . Recommend buying it.
Q:
will this work for Weber Original Kettle Grill (22.5 inch)?
Answer: Yes it will. I have a 26.75 and had plenty left over. If your unit is not brand new clean all of the crud off of the cover lip. Wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol so the is no residue. Apply it by pulling the paper stripo back a few inches at a time while being careful not the stretch it. Place the lid back on the weber and let it sit for at least 24 hours so the adhesive sets. If you are in a cold climate, I would bring the weber inside or someplace warm and then apply.
Answer: The size is correct but we have a material that is a little softer and works better for this application. Here is a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TAJW0QE
Answer: i dont see why not....the adhesive is pretty strong and should stick to the inside of your lid, which I believe is rounded...obviously this product works better for a flat surface, but as I mentioned the adhesive backing is pretty strong, actually very strong. I would try it!
Answer: I used it on a brinkman vertical smoker that has two doors, there was enough to seal both doors and it's stayed on. it should be plenty to do what you want.
Q:
Will this work for the flat lid on a uds smoker or is there a better option?
Answer: This will work. if the lid isn't nice and flat try FireBlack 3/4 x 1/8, its a little softer so it helps with lids that aren't flat
Answer: I really didn't like it for my smoker after the first use my lid stuck closed and left fuzzys everywhere I would use wood stove door seal cord hope this helps
Answer: This will fit but there is a better option out there from the same sellers
Q:
What is the life expectancy of the seal and is it a pain to remove/replace?
Answer: Hi,
Q:
The picture shows 15 feet in the package and the description shows it is 14 feet. Which is it please?
Answer: I don’t know. There was enough for me to do what I needed to do.
Q:
can I stick a piece on top of a piece
Answer: Hi, You could -- BUT be we strongly recommend installing a piece OPPOSITE the original piece. We also make 1/4" thick. Thanks! -BBQgaskets_online a division of Island Outdoor, LLC
Answer: What kind of seal are you looking for? You could put a piece on one edge and another piece on the other edge. I don't think stacking them on top of each other will give you the right adhesion and wouldn't work well.
Q:
Can you use it on a regular Charcoal grill like charbroil?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes - we used it in the firebox and the grill section. But make sure you clean the section you're going to out it in thoroughly or it will not stick. And it sticks better if you use high heat caulking.
Answer: Because there is an adhesive on one side, I would not get it in direct flames. It can handle 800F, which can be from gas or charcoal. Just make sure no direct flames attack the adhesive.
Answer: As long as it will not be in direct contact with the fire. Also the area you will be applying to must be flat and very clean so the adhesive sticks to the metal surface.
Q:
Will this work on my Camp Chef Woodwind?
Answer: It should work on your Camp Chef. Make sure before you put the Lavalock down that the area is clean or the Lavalock gasket will not stick.
Answer: Designed to seal the gap in the smoke chamber. Worked great on my Brinkman Offset - you want your firebox to get air so don't seal around it.
Answer: Don’t know if it will work or not, I used it on a custom built pig cooker and it all came off when I cooked the first pig ????
Answer: I don’t see it wouldn’t - just to seal things better
Q:
How many would i need to order to do a Traeger 34?
Answer: I don’t know the length of the parts you want to cover. The package has 15 feet of gasket material. Measure the lengths you need to cover and see if 15 feet is enough.
Answer: just one! :)
Answer: Just 1.
Q:
Where is the best place to install, door or smoker chamber frame for door.
Answer: I have always seen and assumed the outside edge of the door is better than framing the inside. Both will give equal results, but framed on the exterior allows a bigger opening for the smoking chamber.
Answer: Depends on the smoker (flanges etc) , I like to do it on the lid/door
Answer: I got good results from putting the product on the chamber door about 1/3 of an inch from the outer edge. I looked at the door and how it met the chamber, looking for where it wasn't touching very well. I put it on the door as opposed to the barrel directly because I felt the heat would be less on the door and make the gasket last longer. I have not used it on the fire box door.
Answer: I installed on the perimeter of my lid for my Treager.
Answer: I put mine on the doors. I thought it would look nicer and less chance of disturbing it loading and unloading the grill. It has worked well.
Q:
What is the difference between this and the other one you sell for $5 more? Specs seem the same
Answer: Probably prime eligible vs not. Sellers are getting smart and just building shipping into their "free shipping" price
Q:
Is this made in usa? what is country of origin?
Answer: Yes, All LavaLock gaskets are made in USA
Answer: not for sure but think it is us made. It ships from somewhere in the US and gets here quick. Got mine in 2016 and it is still doing the job.
Q:
Will it work where firebox is connected?
Answer: It’s working great where the fire box connects to the smoker box. I also used some gasket glue. That made the instillation easier.
Answer: Don't know. I used it to replace the old, worn out gasket around the oven door of an old gas stove. It works great... keeps the hot air in the oven. Good luck with your project.
Answer: the best option for that is amazon part # B00KN1GNRK
Answer: I used it to seal the door of the fire box and so far it is holding up
Answer: Yes
Q:
Has anybody tried this on the Weber Smokey Mountain 22 inch?
Answer: Yes, but we do have a kit specific for that smoker, which is better. thanks! -BBQgaskets_online
Answer: I've had it on my Oklahoma Joe's offset smoker through several smokes. Lasting good on the cooking chamber but didn't last on the fire box.
Q:
what type of de-greaseder and alcohol did you use to clean before applying it? name?
Answer: My smoker was nearly new. It had only been use two times. I still use a solution if mild Dawn and water.
Answer: Wire brush on drill then acetone
Answer: I've forwarded your question to my husband. He's the one that used it.
Q:
What would you recommend for gmg pellet smoker?
Answer: Sealed the smoke chamber in my Brinkmann Offset. I would assume it would work well in other types of smokers
Answer: LavaLock will work, but FireBlack 34 is best. the amazon sku is B015DAI8K0
Product reviews of 1/2" x 1/8" Lavalock High Temp Nomex BBQ HT gasket smoker seal, self stick grey
Justin K. : Bad batch of adhesive - don't buy in 2020
If you sort reviews by date, you'll see that this product gets good reviews until 2020 when suddenly it gets a ton of complaints about the adhesive being dried out and not sticking. Looks like they got a bad batch of adhesive and are still selling it. I ordered mine in Sept 2020 and sure enough, it doesn't stick at all. Literally, it's not even slightly sticky - just falls off as soon as you put it in place. I'm sure that's not how the product normally works, but I wouldn't take a chance on it until they've resolved their quality control issue.
GB : Would love to be sponsored!
Use it with the high heat sealant and you will see insane results immediately. I use my smoker at my shop every day and have replaced it once in the last 5 months
Derek Black : sealed right up
Went on easy and seals the door perfectly on my Ironwood 885. Keeps the temp more consistent and stops all door smoke.
Tim Kubik : Seals like a charm!
What more do you really need to know. What I like most is that it is easy to angle cut.
Joe : Easy to use
My smoker was letting a lot of heat and smoke out of the gap in between the door and the cabinet. After applying the lava lock tape I got a better fit. It increased the warmth inside the cabinet. Putting the gasket on was simple. Their product is easy to use.
Eric Mats : Better buy an RTV adhesive if you buy this product
The adhesive on this is terrible. I took it out of the bag and started peeling off the outside and it barely even stuck to my fingers. It barely stuck to the bottom/gasket area where the lid closes on my Acorn Kamado grill that I had pre-cleaned with paper towel and alcohol. You WILL definitely need to buy an RTV silicone adhesive that would cost ya $5-9 EXTRA depending on where you buy it. Harbor Freight had one for 5 bucks.
I’ll see how it works out over the next uses but prob would’ve preferred to buy a diff product with a stronger adhesive from the start.
sara r. : So far so good!
As another reviewer has done and stated, I had to unscrew the hinges on my ZGrill 700D and place some extra washers to accommodate the gasket which was very easy! . Fits and works very well! So far so good and haven’t experienced any sticking or peeling yet will update again in about a month or so!
77petals : Love it.
It works perfectly. It’s been on for months, in south Louisiana, with lots of usage, and has not begun to come off. I have an old smoker. I cleaned the door with soap and water, then cleaned it with 90% rubbing alcohol before applying.
Jennifer Johnson : Great product!
Fantastic product! I got a used Traeger and smoke was sleeping out of the top crease of the lid. I bought this kit hoping it would fix the issue. I used a bit of oven cleaner and some 409 to prep the surface. At the time I applied the gasket it was 40 degrees outside and the adhesive wasn’t sticking well. I fired up the grill and closed the lid for a few hours and now it’s stuck on there firmly. The best part is that it fixed my issue and there is no smoke seeping from the lid!
David Van Wart : Good seal with additional glue
Worked really well on my weber kettle but it absolutely needed the additional glue. The built on adhesive came loose in a day.
D.Hunsaker : Buy it the second you bring your new smoker home
I so wish I would have found this stuff sooner. It completely seals off the lid of my smoker so I get more smoke flavor and less smoke leaving from the edges of the lid. If you are using it on an already used grill, make sure you scrub the side of the lid you're applying it to. Some dawn in water and a brillo pad worked great to remove the soot from my lid so I had a good surface to adhere it to.
Steven : does what you expect
I use it on the Traeger Ironwood, it gives a more premium feel (on a pellet grill that is so expensive, I shouldn't NEED to get a gasket). It does a good job of directing the smoke and heat through the proper vents. Didn't notice any significant change in the ability to maintain temperature, but overall i'm pleased with it. The adhesive backing hasn't failed, and it seals incredibly well.
Tim Kubik : Seals like a charm!
What more do you really need to know. What I like most is that it is easy to angle cut.
Phil : Poor adhesive
The backing was extremely difficult to peel off and then when I finally did it, the product had very poor adhesion to the grill door of my Yoder smoker. I spent quite a bit of time preparing the surface, using a degreaser, clean cloth and then thoroughly dried the surface. Yet the adhesive had almost no tack when attaching to the door. It's possible I had a defective roll, but it was certainly unusable and I returned it.
Greg M : Worked as Advertised
Worked perfectly to seal my leaky griller/smoker. 15 feet of gasket tape was not enough to seal the barrel so I bought it again. Adhesion of the gasket improved after using the griller, i.e. tape became more permanently fixed to the areas that I taped after being exposed to grilling temperatures.

BoltActionScout : Works good
Glad it came with extra it’s now starting to come off the grill so I can put second set on. Lasted for a good season.
!m! !m! : Perfect Way To Seal Up Heat Leaks
I can now wave my hand over the firebox side of my smoker and not feel any large heat leaks. This sealed it right up and if you follow the instructions (apply without stretching and close the lid and let it sit) you will not have problems. This was my final modification to my smoker and as a result it is now running perfectly.
Justin : Lasts a while
Pretty good stuff. Hand crafted a smoker and used the crap out of it. This seal works great and is just barely starting to peel off after about a year of hard use.
TLC13 : Good so far
So far so good. Used it on my Z grill cover to totally eliminate smoke sipping out of the cover. Working fine. Have smoked 5 times after applying this gasket and no problems.
Edwardo S : Great Addition to my Traeger!
Put this seal on my Traeger over a year ago. It has made a big difference in heat and smoke retention. I cleaned the surface of the lid thoroughly with rubbing alcohol before applying the seal and it is showing no signs of peeling. Great product!
David Van Wart : Good seal with additional glue
Worked really well on my weber kettle but it absolutely needed the additional glue. The built on adhesive came loose in a day.
RandomRoosterJD : Used on pit smoker firebox
Lined fire door on pit smoker firebox. It stuck well and has held up to the heat.
Christopher Antony : Works great. Selaed up smoker door nicely.
I got this for my Brinkman vertical charcoal smoker. I was having a lot of trouble keeping heat in as it would leak through the door. ALOT! It took forever to for my ribs to cook when I first bought my smoker. I ordered this. I cleaned the door off. It is self adhesive...just trimmed it appropriately, peeled off the sticker and stuck it on the edge of the door. It now seals great and no smoke excapes through the cracks of the door. Next going to be ordering some food grade caulk sealant for the rest of the cracks and crevises around the rest of the smoker.
Ron : Worth it!
Great product.
Saw this in a review for the PitBoss 820SP and it not only helped the smoke loss, but the temperature has been much more accurate. Highly recommended.

Gary Jordan : BUY IT for SMOKER or GRILL
Good stuff, easy to apply, STICKS good, SEALS GREAT!
Bought this for my new smoker/grill lids (grill mfg cheaper out and didn't provide)
High quality, flame retardant felt with quality adhesive backing. Simply cut and apply, that easy, and IT WORKS, keeping smoke from leaking around lid.
(Also, great sound dampened, so metal lid doesn't "clang" when shut.
Joe : Easy to use
My smoker was letting a lot of heat and smoke out of the gap in between the door and the cabinet. After applying the lava lock tape I got a better fit. It increased the warmth inside the cabinet. Putting the gasket on was simple. Their product is easy to use.
John Funk : Great Product
This gasket was perfect for my Smoke Hollow electric smoker. So much easier to maintain temps now. I did have one issue, after cleaning the mating surfaces with sand paper AND acetone some fibers of the gasket still pulled off and stuck to the frame when I opened it during smoking.
The adhesive side held firm but the other side of the gasket lost the fiber. I just left it there and there is no further sticking. Wish I had installed this before first use. Even have a few feet left over.
Cowboot : Perfect For My Use
Used this to button up some leaky areas along my new Oklahoma Joe Rambler smoker/grill. Cut maybe 1/4" shorter than what I measured, as it stretches just a bit during application - worked like a charm ! I've been smoking meat for about 40 years, and I do this with every grill I break in - works as designed, easy to apply, seals nicely. Buy with confidence.
GB : Would love to be sponsored!
Use it with the high heat sealant and you will see insane results immediately. I use my smoker at my shop every day and have replaced it once in the last 5 months
Cathy Hall : Works as advertised.
I used this on a Weber Smokey Mountain 18". Some smoke was escaping around the door and top lid. I cleaned the door and ran the casket around the top and both sides of the door, on the door itself. Also applied gasket on the top lip of the smoker, where the lid sits. Just the right width no triming needed. Adhered great. Now the only smoke escaping is from the vents on top of smoke just like it is supposed to. Great product.
David Van Wart : Good seal with additional glue
Worked really well on my weber kettle but it absolutely needed the additional glue. The built on adhesive came loose in a day.
J.J : Great Product
Great product. Nothing wrong with extra padding and sealed my smoker nice and tight. I’d defiantly buy this again
william marx : Easy to install
Used this on my Pit Boss lid, It really did the job! Helps hold in the smoke and keeps the temps even.
Jake : Sealed my smoker great
My smoker is now sealed perfectly, no wasting heat or smoke
bwl : Cheap, affective upgrade to your smoker!!
I have a Camp Chef pellet smoker that used to billow out smoke from under the lid. I installed this lavalock gasket in under 20 minutes, and it has not only decreased the smoke leagage but increased internal temp by roughly 20°F due to blocking the heat from escaping. Smoke still leaks out very slightly from under the pid, but that's due to the stamped lid not perfectly confirming to the shape of the smoker main body.
I would HIGHLY recommend this product. Easy, cheap, affective.
I used an oven cleaner, then my grill brush to scrub clean the outer edge of the lid where I was going to apply the gasket. I wiped it down a few times with pepper towels to make sure the surface was very clean. Then I used my handheld Bernzomatic torch to heat the lid before I applied the gasket. This helps the adhesive stick much better than it would to a room temp or especially cold surface. That technique seemed to work great.
Buy this product.
nickb22 : Self adhesive is terrible.
Is this a joke? I installed this on a brand new bbq, never used and it’s not sticking. Left it on for 24 hours. Scotch tape is stronger than this.
What do I do now?
fpettit27 : Works great, but it is a consumable item.
Bought the gasket in May of 2020 and after many smoking and grilling sessions, it has started to distort. Now in February 2021, it is no longer useable. The gap between the gasket and lid shown in the picture is from the gasket shrinking. Luckily there is enough material to do two applications. I went ahead ordered another gasket to keep for later because it really does work well when there is a good seal.

Amazon Customer : Very pleased with the performance of the product
So far, it has worked as advertised. Very pleased with the performance of the product. My smoker is over 10 years old and it was leaking badly around the lid. So much so that I was unable to control the temperature or the amount of smoke staying in the pit. I applied the lavalock all the way around the inside of the lid and let it sit for the required 24+ hours. Very easy to cut to size and apply. First time out, the temperature was dead on and stayed constant. The smoke was perfect. Put out a beautiful brisket, tender, juicy, perfect smoky flavor. Used the pit for some simply burgers and dogs last weekend. Worried the increased temp of the coals right in the pit might damage the Lavalock. It came thru without being singed, again the tempaerature was right on the money and held constant throughout the cooking time. Very pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone. Made my 10+ year old smoker just like new!
R D : Definitely did the job!
Very easy to apply and did a great job in containing the smoke on my smoker. I have a Masterbuilt and the gasket was not sufficient on the door for the meat compartment. This gasket is definitely doing the job!
ryan : Perfect for charcoal grill
Works great, easy to cut and apply, backing paper kind of hard to get loose at times.
RandomRoosterJD : Used on pit smoker firebox

Amazon Customer : Cheap add-on to make expensive smokers even better!
I installed the gasket about a week ago on my Traeger Pro 34, and I have not had a chance to cook on it until this week. I noticed an immediate reduction in smoke leaking from around the lid, it almost completely stopped it. I have a feeling the tiny wisp I did see was because I could not get the seams perfectly joined (my fault, not the product). It definitely made an immediate difference.
I also included a screenshot from my wireless temperature probe from an almost 4 hour cook I did yesterday. As you can see, the data does not lie. The temperature variations were very small and tight.
I am still impressed that a $15 gasket made a $750 pellet grill that much better.
Thank you for offering this great product.
GT : No stickiness !
Not made of quality, no stickiness to the tape side... avoid.
J.J : Great Product
Great product. Nothing wrong with extra padding and sealed my smoker nice and tight. I’d defiantly buy this again
Jerold R Ray : Sealing up a smoker or anything just doesn't amazing job
