The matching heating controller and element are designed for the Barbecue Enthusiast who is designing and building their own electric smoker or grill and looking for an easy to use and install electric heating system. The controller and element can be added to many existing large smokers and grills if you're to incorporate in a separate food warmer area. The heating element and matching adjustable controller allows you to adjust the temperature from approximately 50 F up to 450 F, depending on size, construction and materials used in the smoker or grill. The heating element features an easy mount flange which requires a rectangular opening in the side of your grill or smoker of 2 5/8" by 1" for the removable controller attachment flange. The element mounting bracket allows for adjustable bolt mounting from 2 ¾" to 3 ½" on center and can be attached with user supplied bolts and nuts. The heavy duty 1500 watt element uses standard US 110 volts and come with 2" tall stabilizing supports for the ends of the element. The controller easily can be unplugged from the heating element for cleaning and storage and features an easy to adjust dial thermostat with a heating on indicator light. Does this fit brinkman electric smoker?

Answer: I was able to fit it in my Brinkman smoker. It took a bit more work than I had expected. I used a dremel with a small cutoff wheel. There are two holes that needed to be enlarged, the inside and outside trays. After about an hour and half a dozen wheels, the job was done. Now you have to bend the element a bit so it fits and doesn’t touch the metal tray. Haven’t tried it yet but hopefully it will work.

Any reason why this wouldn't work for a propane to electric conversion in a smoker?

Answer: I used 2 units to convert my masterbuilt xl smoker. You'll need insulation of some sort, I have an old blanket I wrap mine in and cut a hole in it near the exhaust. With the blanket I can easily maintain 275 with elements on low. Propane is still usable on mine as well

Answer: Sorry, I can't help much. Look at the dimensions of both and see. Mainly, look at the part that goes the opening on the body of the smoker; I had to make some modifications as each smoker's element attaches differently (some holes are round, some rectangle but they can fit).

Answer: reaching 250 will take in my smoker about 10mins. It takes about 20-30 to reach 400+ degrees.

Answer: These coils can be bent, just remember the configuration of how they are constructed, prior to purchasing I would purchase the configuration that is needed. They have provide several different configurations of heaters for the same money and if not give them a call, they are very easy to work with. Hope this helps.

Answer: With lots of modifications Plug original element hole. Cut new hole for new element. Squeeze element. Caulk around new stuff. Added 12g copper wires x 3 or 4 tracing from one leg of element to other to create more geared contact with the smoke box.

Will this work on a smoke hollow 26142e?

Answer: I don't know what a smoke hollow 26142e is but if it is over 15 inches in diameter and you can cut a hole in it for the plug in it should work. It heats my Weber kettle type smoker was charcoal fired to 225 degrees all day long and can be dialed down from there.I put a heavy aluminum pan directly on top of the element and put wood in it for smoke.I love it.

Answer: i'm sure you can make it work. I think it's 1400 watts vs 1500. no big deal. don't be afraid to cut up your brinkman to modify it. it's not like your ever going to sell it. don't forget the lava rocks. the small rectangular foil pans fit nicely in the center of the element. use the small wood chips without soaking and it works perfect.

Answer: I had to modify the bottom of my smoker to get it to fit. The element fit nicely but my smoker diameter was too small to fit the element and the connector. I made the opening large enough to put the metal flanges at the connector on the outside of the smoker box and it worked nicely.

Answer: Hi! I barely got it to fit in a Brinkmann electric smoker. I had to carefully bend the element so it would fit inside. Not sure what you mean by "conversion" but, I once took a Brinkmann charcoal smoker and took one of the pans and put a small element in it, and used it like an electric. It didn't work well because too much air got in from underneath the leg area. If you're thinking about making the element in the charcoal bowl/pan it will be way to big. Hope this helped! Scott

Answer: If it is an electric smoker you should already have a hole in the side at the bottom. On my Brinkman, the screws didn't match to hold it in but it has small legs but is fairly sturdy even without a permanent mount. I will also not burn large pieces of but smokes small chips ok.

Answer: It's exactly like a regular element you would find in a standard kitchen oven. That may help you decide how much you think you could bend it. I had no need to bend it for my application so I didn't try but it feels like it could bend a bit without kinking or cracking.

Answer: I would say it would, you will have to make some alterations to the box but should work. Then again pending on the previous element the holes and slot cut thru the box might just fit. This is a very good unit, I use it for a totally different purpose than smoking meat, I use it for a powder coating oven for curing coated products. It maintains the proper heat level very well, I use it at the max of 400 deg for hours on end. Very good product.

Answer: If you place anything directly on the electric coil you run the risk of burning it out. I bought a small smoke box for wood chips and placed it on 2 pieces of angle iron so it sits just slightly above the coil. I also use a torch to ignite part of the chips.

It has performed without any problems and it does heat up like advertised. Measure your element then use the info on the advertisement to see if its the same dimensions.

Answer: I got 195 degrees topped out on my Brinkmann Smoker. That was on an 83 degree day.

Answer: Can't help you with your question, I only use in my smoker and have no need to test the upper limits. I would "suspect" that within a small contained area it could reach the upper limit. Also suspect that if the upper limits were to be maintained over a long period of time and continued use at those higher temps eventually the element would burn itself out. Can only stay "red hot" for so long before metal fatigue sets in.

Answer: If it’s small, but won’t heat a large space. I have a medium sized refrigerator I converted to an oven and it barely gets to 400 F when turned on max. I would run 2 if I were you unless it’s a small oven.

Answer: In an enclosed space the element would produce extreme heat! I modified my cooker and have used it repeatedly with temperatures reaching the max on the recast.

Answer: Seriously doubt it...these are usually designed to reach about 250 max for smokers. Heat low & slow

Fit sideways in my masterbuilt gas smokehouse. I gutted all the propane bits cut the hole and in less than 10 minutes had smoke. It's currently 60F outside but I havnt hit over 150 in the smoker yet. Going to give it more time I'd like to hit 220 to 250 honestly.

I bought this burner a year ago, needed to augment heat from my firebox for the vertical portion of my large smoker (it is about 36” away from the firebox, with the large horizontal chamber in between. I could never get the vertical hot enough to rally use it. This burner was easy to install, but the controller is difficult to tell what setting you have it on. It worked fine but there is no,way it would have provided enough heat by itself, likely only added around 100 deg to the temp from the firebox. That was enough though to allow me full use of the vertical. Now, a bit over a year later, it wasn’t heating. I pulled the controller off of the burner and the insides came out, so I’m stuck again not being able to use all of my pit. For $50, I really expected a much better product.

It was the perfect replacement for our masterbuilt smoker. Only issue encountered was that the position of the support screws were not the same as the original and I had to make some modifications in order for it to work.

Purchased a used Kenmore smoker. After about a month, temp control knob had a short and literally melted. Temp control knob plugged directly into heater element. Since kenmore discontinued the item, we thought we'd have to throw away smoker. Happened to find this universal element. Hubby had to enlarge opening in side of smoker to accomodate new element. Other than that quick and simple modification, installed and works beautifully.

Gary : Fits Royal Gourmet 30" smoker

I have a new royal gourmet smoker just out of warrantee. The thermostat unit totally melted after just four uses. A problem reported her by many. A new controller was $45 and this one came with an element too for $50. The element itself is about twice as big as the original and needed minor bending of the coil to fit. The mounting screw holes were also different so I had to drill new holes. The original unit never heated past 200°. This one over 300° easy. Happy so far.

I purchased this as a replacement for the original heat and control unit in my Smoke Hollow 30168E.

This smoker actually has had very little use and very early on (while still under warranty) Smoke Hollow provided a replacement controller when it failed. 'Last time I used the smoker (maybe as much as two years ago) it worked just fine. In the meantime, it was stored inside and unplugged, and when I went to use it Sunday, it just kept popping the circuit breaker.

I researched the internet and found a couple of sites willing to sell what was supposed to be original replacement units for nearly the full cost of replacing the entire smoker. It was a Sunday and Smoke Hollow doesn't list parts, prices, availability nor offer online orders on their site and, I figured they would likely want well over a hundred bucks for theirs, too.

I have a multi-meter but my skills with understanding ohms/resistance are limited and I really was not able to determine whether he heating unit or the controller had failed.

I found this combination unit at what seemed like a reasonable price, read the reviews and measured carefully. When it got here, I had to re-drill the two mounting holes. Everything else fit just fine. I thought I would have to bend or cut the "foot" tabs that suspend the heating element away from the smoker floor but, they easily articulate against the heating element to whatever position you need in order to set the heating element level. I wish the heating element had been just a little shorter (for a bit easier insertion into the smoker) and just a little bit narrower ( so that it would be just a bit farther from the smoker rear wall and the door - - but, it does fit and it doesn't touch the back or the door.

As I indicated, I ordered this on Sunday, it arrived while I was out of town Tuesday. Today is Wednesday and it's installed and out there on the deck working like a champ.

Another thing that swayed me to this unit and away from original equipment replacement was the much greater range of heat control. I never could get that original set-up below 250 degrees F - - - I smoke at a much lower temperature and longer time (while still achieving safe internal temperatures for the meat/fish/etc). I am maintaining it right at about 170 degrees F right now.

What a great product! Bought this to replace element on my Masterbuilt Pro 30" Model No. 20070612 analog electric smoker. Fit perfectly. Did require temp removal of right rack support and drilling of 2 holes and purchase of 2 stainless steel bolts with washer and locking nut for about $4 at local Ace Hardware. You will need to remove old element and the element supports in this unit. Took about 5 minutes to install including drill time. Medium setting heated smoker to 250 degrees easily. High setting went well about 325 degrees. Smoked salmon, Portobello mushrooms and 4 ears corn last night. Started smoking chips at 200 degees. Held 250 perfectly. Family loved having smoked food again. Highly recommended if you have basic DIY skills. PS: River Country included a free gift of their Gator Claws which I plan to use next week on an 8# pork butt! Thanks River Country for bringing my Masterbuilt back at less than half the cost of the manufacturer.

I purchased a cheap (Backyard Classic) charcoal smoker from Walmart to see if I liked smoking stuff. Turns out I do like smoking stuff but trying to maintain a reasonable temperature range with this charcoal smoker was pretty much impossible so I decided to convert it to electric. I bought this unit (along with a Maverick ET-73 smoker thermometer), and fitted it into the ash drawer. Works perfect! I can maintain a +/- 3degF temperature range from any set point. It makes smoking fun, just set it and wait for the great tasting smoked meat to come out. Highly recommended for anyone with a bit of mechanical skill and a few tools.

Fitment is good. Had to drill a couple of new holes to bolt in the element. Element is not quite as hot as original but it gets it where it needs to be. I have done 8 batches of chicken since I have received it and it works well.

Prior smoking cabinet was gas, after years of slow cooking the gas elements just rotted away. Decided to remove any evidence of the still intact, nicely broken in and tight cabinet being gas, and converted the heat source to electric with the help of this unit. Worked out great. The big plus is that the heating unit has a thermostat which allows me to control the heat far better than I ever could with gas. All good.
The picture of the unit is unavailable at the time of this review, but did it one better...photo attached is of my first batch of smoked bacon using my now electric smoker. Yum!

This element was not a perfect fit for my masterbuilt smoker but it was not hard to rearrange the brackets to make it fit. Have smoked some meat and it works great.

Works great in warm/hot weather. I have a 32” barrel grill and as long as it’s 70 degrees or higher (not windy) it gets to 225 and stays there. Below 70 and windy and it will barely get 150. It would work best for small grills/smokers.

Update: Been using for 3 years, very basic unit with almost no control, but I’ve gotten used to using and now I’m in love with it. Works perfect every time. Been smoking with it three times a week without any issues.

Ordered this & a DozyAnt thermometer to replace the burned out dead coil on my old Brinkmann red smoker, which did not have a temp control. It took some amateur metal working and a little cussing to fit it in, but it went. Got it to 225, and it took some periodic adjusting to keep it there, but the thing worked okay and seven hours later I had the best, slow smoked pork butt the old red smoker has ever produced. I'm only giving it four stars because its not really universal.

I picked up a used Masterbuilt 30" analog smoker for free because the old element was broken. I was a bit hesitant to buy this element because some reviews said they had to bend it to make it fit their smoker. I took the risk and bought it and was pleasantly surprised to find it fits perfectly and works as promised.

As you can see in the pictures it is larger than the previous element, but still fits within my smoker without needing to bend. I mistakenly thought I needed to bend the legs at first but it turns out I didn't need to do that so I straightened them back out.

The screw holes on this element didn't match what the previous element used so I drilled new holes and attached with new bolts. There is a slight gap above the area where the element goes through the smoker wall which causes moisture to leak through to the outside plug area when smoking. It hasn't been too much of a problem but it does cause me a little concern seeing moisture drip around the electrical thermostat control. I may need to find a way to fill that gap to prevent more leakage.

I've been able to get the smoker up to 325 degrees with this element. I've smoked pork ribs and chicken legs and both smoked up as expected.

Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. The company even provided a bonus gift - a pair of "Gator Claws" - heavy-duty meat holders/grabbers/slicers/shredders that go over your knuckles. I haven't been able to use them yet, but expect to use them to shred smoked meat someday.

Replaced the element in my Masterbuilt 30"analog smoker. This element is a little bit larger than what was in the smoker, and required some bending to fit. Also, the original holes don't match up to secure the element in place, so new ones will have to be drilled. The initial burn-out held the internal temperature of my smoker at 405 degrees F, which is hotter than the original could reach.
