How would tis knife work for gutting bluefish and cutting through the backbone? I'm thinking the serrated edge would help with that?

Answer: Yes, either one will work fine on bluefish. The serrated side is designed for scaling, not cutting, so you would probably just have to try it and see what happens. :-)

Answer: No, it comes with a sheath. It's not a cavalry sword.

Is the blade flexible on this 3.9 as on the regular filet knife?

Answer: The blade is flexible but not like on a regular fillet knife. The blade is also thicker than what one would find on a regular fillet knife. If you were thinking of getting it to use solely as a fillet knife you will be dissappointed. But as a general purpose knife it is wonderfull and extremely sharp.

Answer: The blade has some slight flexibility, but all in all its a fairly sturdy blade. It does not seem to have as thin a blade as some dedicated filet knives (some almost to be being flat as razer and flexible as a rubber band.) It should hold up to whatever your skinning/fileting needs are and a little more. I used mine to process a rabbit, bone breaker and all..hope this answers your question

Basically, the Scalers are a more general-purpose fishing knife that can do anything (including filleting) with fish, while a filleting knife is best at only one thing: filleting. :-)

Bisher immer die Fische mit einem Taschenmesser gekeilt. Mit dem Ding funktioniert das wirklich super. Es ist scharf, schmal, spitz. Das ideale Anglermesser. Durch den Plastikgriff liegt es gut in der Hand und läßt sich super reinigen.

nach längerer Benutzung muss ich hier leider eine Stern abziehen. Das Messer hat beim Zander und auch bei einigen anderen Fischarten in Norwegen so seine Schwierigkeiten. Es muss sehr oft nachgeschärft werden. Ich kenn mich nicht aus, aber scheinbar ist es doch recht weich.

Fenley : Excellent bait knife

Was looking for a small bait knife and this fits the bill perfectly. The blade is stiff and exceptionally sharp. Don't think it will work well as a filet knife, but I have a longer, more flexible Morakniv filet knife for that. The plastic sheath holds the knife firmly and has a drain hole at the end. Fits nicely on the 2" nylon strap I've attached to the bench seat in my aluminum boat to keep it safely out of the way. Like that it was made in Sweden.

これを購入する前は、モーラのカーボンスチール（モスグリーン）のヤツで捌いていましたが、
使用後に手入れしたつもりでも毎回錆びていたので、海の魚を捌くのはステンレスブレードのほうが良いです。

In der Preisklasse findet man meines Erachtens kaum ein besseres Angelmesser. Zugegeben: Ich bin Mora-Fan und habe diverse Messer dieses Herstellers. Dieses Messer ist unfassbar scharf, hat eine tolle schmale Klinge und m.E. optimal als Angelmesser am Wasser aber auch zum Ausnehmen und Filetieren der Fische geeignet.

Aber auch für die Küche ist es super geeignet. Ich habe zum Test Tomaten geschnitten und war Begeistert von der Schärfe des Messers.

Wish I could vote by half stars because the only reason this doesn’t get a full 5 star is because when you sharpen it the finish gets altered and that’s happened on all of my Mora Knives. Only other downside is the mounting options for the sheath aren’t very strong, but isn’t a problem since this is just tossed into a tackle box for me.

So glad I got the small one, it’s plenty for just about any task for any “everyday” fish, up to the size of a yellowtail or so, other than filleting. Easy to wield on a kayak, pier, or boat. Crazy sharp. This is a stout and stiff utility blade, so you can’t expect it to be great at filleting or removing skin, but for everything up to that point, from trimming your line, cutting the bait, bleeding, gutting, scaling, and making the first cuts on the fish, this thing just kills. I plan to get the large one too, after seeing how nice this small one is, for the occasional hefty Halibut or Sheepshead, but this small one would still be my main fishing knife.

Das Messer kommt bereits Rasiermesserscharf an, und hält diese Schärfe seit Monaten.
Dass sich die Scheide schnell und sicher am Gürtel befestigen lässt ist einfach genial, und mit dem Messer lassen sich monophile wie geflochtene Schnüre ohne zerfransen durchschneiden.
Habe das Messer beim Angeln immer bei mir, und es jedes Mal gebraucht.
Die Rückseite des Messers eignet sich tatsächlich gut um Fische zu entschuppen

Having bought and used the Morakniv Bushcraft Sandvik carbon steel blade knife (and being pleased with that knife), I bought this knife as well. I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, but my only disappointment is that it has a brightly polished stainless steel finish. The advertising clearly stated that it's a stainless steel blade, so I am NOT blaming anyone. I'm simply wondering whether sunlight will reflect off it and scare fish away, but as I haven't worn it yet on the waters... I'll reserve final judgment. I suspect that Morakniv chose stainless steel for it's rust-free characteristics.

Once spring is here and I take it out fishing... and have the chance to scale and filet a newly-caught fish with it, I'll be glad to post another review on this knife.

I bought this knife for a fishing companion as a gift for an up coming trip. Actually , I own the Morakniv Fishing Comfort Knife with 3.5 inch blade and figured I'd try something different for my friend so, I got the Comfort Scaler with 3.9 inch blade for him. Comparing the two knives I much prefer the Comort with the 3.5 inch blade. It's blade is thiner, lighter and more flexable. You don't really need the scaler for trout anyway. However it's a great knife as all Mora knives are.

Schneidet wie Gift! Ich hab es jetzt schon eine weile im einsatz wie man auf den bildern sieht. Hab schon jede menge Aale damit aufgebrochen, und jeder der mal einen glitschigen Aal in der hand hatte der weiss ein hochwertiges scharfes spitzes Messer zu schätzen. Zum entschuppen auch sehr gut durch den geriffelten klingenrücken.
Die Scheide hat unten ein auslauf damit Wasser abfließen kann. Nachschärfen musste ich es bis jetzt nicht, die klinge ist sehr schnitthaltig. Der Kauf hat sich rückblickend sehr gelohnt für mich wie ich finde.
Ich kanns nur weiter empfehlen an meine angler kollegen da draußen.
