Answer: I ordered my trays from Nesco, putting in the model number and it gave me the trays to buy. I went to Amazon for the best pricing. Mine are 15 - 15 1/4" across the tray. They are not always available in the stores, the smaller ones yes, but not the larger ones. The ones I ordered fit just fine, a little different in webbing design but are made for the dryer. Hope this answers your question. Just measure across the top of the tray and the one that is closest to that measurement described on the site is the one you will need. It needs to be the Nesco brand.

Answer: The manufacture states, in the manual, that they are top rack safe with NO heated drying cycle. They must be air dried.
Answer: It depends on your dishwasher. I have a good one that has a no-heat cycle that I use. I can do about 12 trays at a time. The get cleanest if I stagger them when I stack them.

Answer: Yes, they are dishwasher proof but only if they will fit in your dishwasher. I have read about many, many people putting them in their dishwasher with no problems at all. But my top rack won't go up high enough for me to stand them up in the bottom of my dishwasher. I can only get in a few in my dishwasher by laying them sideways or at an angel. They come out nicely. Most have said they take the them out before the hot drying is over, or don't put the dry on at all. They air dry really fast anyways. Hope this helps you. :)

Answer: No. According to the descriptions provided by Amazon the FD 40 trays are about 13 and a half inches wide and these for the 1010 and 1020 that I reviewed are over 15 inches wide. Amazon does sell trays for the FD 40 and if you enter "food dehydrator add a tray" in the Amazon search bar it will bring up the tray(sells for $9.99 from Goodman's but sold through Amazon.

Answer: This is for a 2 pack firstly, and free shipping. But i can say when i purchased this i paid $15 total for the 2 trays. But keep in mind that there are multiple sellers for these items on amazon, try checking the other sellers, not always easy to find the option, and this is also peek season for dehydration and canning so all of it will have a jump in price.

They would be 13 inch diameter. They look very similar as I had an AH several years ago. Hope this helps.

Answer: The TR-2 will work...You will need the Nesco LT-2W trays for your FD1040. I have ordered several for my garden master, just keeping in mind that nothing is built as they used to be, they should work fine! For additional uses you may also want to order the roll up trays (they are solid, if you lightly spray a paper towel with Pam and wipe on wipe off, when food is properly dried it will slide off, great for liquid drying) and the screens are perfect for smaller stuff and herbs) I use mine daily. They can be purchased on Amazon!

Answer: I have a garden master fd1000, an older model of the fd1040. The fd1020 trays fit my model of the garden master. The new trays are not as sturdy as the trays that were included in the original purchase, but they function well for my needs.
Answer: Yes it fits but the tray will not lock in place, the material is not as thick and there is some sagging at high temps for jerky and the center has a different design that is shorter so therefore the sag occurs. My advice make sure the trays are for the fd1020. I know I will. They work with the 1040.

Answer: the Nesco TR-2 Add a Tray should work for the FD-1040. You can double check on the Nesco web site, but they will be cheaper on Amazon. It's what I've been buying for an old FD-1000, and now for a new FD-1018. If you haven't bought the FD-1040, look at the FD-1018. It comes with 8 each, trays, screens, and roll-up tray inserts.

I am used to working with a large commercial dehydrator and this dehydrator fits the bill perfectly for home use. Auto shut off and temperature control work perfectly. The four tray's that come with it don't hold enough produce for my needs. I ordered two extra trays and that is okay. If you want to dry large quantities order at least 2-4 extra trays.
Indiana Customer : Not Very Durable
Why is it that the company cannot seem to make durable trays? I make jerky at least once a week, and these trays don't seem to withstand the 160F dehydrating temperature for longer than a few months before warping. The most recent purchase (this product) looked sturdier, with more ribs and a center spacer that should help support the trays. On the SECOND time using, one of the trays has warped so much that I'll have to cut off the bottom tabs just so it will stack onto the other trays without leaving a big gap. One would think the company could make product to withstand their own dehydrators. Unfortunately, I'll prolly have to continue buying these trays every 6 months or so.
Big John : Melted on low temperature
Wow, got these dehydrator trays for my Nesco American Harvester Gardenmaster dehydrators but they warped and melted at the first use even at the lower end of the temperature zone, which makes the dehydrator work poorly as the air flow leaks out the sides. Surely Nesco can make these of a plastic that is more heat resistant.

I bought a pack of two of these trays to add to my new Nesco Garden Master dehydrator. My experience with the Nesco Square dehydrator taught me that there is a limit to the number of trays you can use before the drying time stretches to an unreasonable length. Using eight trays in the 700 watt square Nesco really lengthened the time it took to dehydrate sweet potato treats for my dogs, so it made sense to drop back to six trays.
Since the Nesco Garden Master has 1,000 watts of power, I was tempted to buy four additional trays instead of the two I purchased. After thinking about it, I decided to only add two to see how the new more powerful dehydrator worked out. You can always add more trays later if that appears to be a good option.
I'm glad that I only bought the two extras. Having 1,000 watts of power instead of 700 watts sounds a lot more powerful, but the results don't confirm any additional efficiency. I ran both Nescos with six trays each of sweet potato slices to compare the length of time needed to completely dry them out. Both of them gave similar results over a twelve hour time period--and both of them needed another two hours to complete the job.
Obviously your results will vary depending on how thick you cut your slices and how many you place on each tray. But unless you don't mind waiting for 14 hours to get the job done, stick with only six trays for each dehydrator.

I bought these to add to my Nesco Gardenmaster Digital FD-1040. My Gardenmaster isn't very old, I've only had it a month or two. They are not exactly like the ones that came with my dehydrator. They are not exactly like the ones in the pictures on the product page. They are not exactly like the ones in the picture on the box they came in. The pictures on the product page, and the pictures on the box, look just like the ones that came with my dehydrator. There is a little disclaimer on the box that says something like "product may differ slightly from item shown".
In the picture on the left, are the new add-a-trays. They have a tall center ring, with turret-like cutouts, unlike my original trays, which have a shorter, smooth center ring that you can see in the picture on the right. The original trays are "dished", (sort of like a bicycle wheel) giving them a subtle shape like a volcano. When they are stacked, the center rings fit together with no gaps. The new trays are flat, and therefore deeper in the center, so the center rings are taller. If you look down the center hole in the picture on the right, you can see the resulting gap between the center rings of the original tray on the top and the new trays on the bottom. If I stack the new, flat trays on the original trays, I lose about 1/3 of the drying space around the center of the original tray that is directly under the new tray, because the original is a subtle cone-shape, and the new tray is flat.
The second picture shows one of the little hooks on the new tray. My original trays dont have these. I'm not a big fan of the hooks, I already hurt my hand with one while cleaning it prior to use.
I hope these trays will work for me. I am afraid that the center rings having cutouts will change the airflow inside the machine, which the advertising said was specifically designed to be efficient, and eliminate the need for rotating trays.

The pictures on the product page, and the pictures on the box, look just like the ones that came with my dehydrator. There is a little disclaimer on the box that says something like "product may differ slightly from item shown".
In the picture on the left, are the new add-a-trays. They have a tall center ring, with turret-like cutouts, unlike my original trays, which have a shorter, smooth center ring that you can see in the picture on the right. The original trays are "dished", (sort of like a bicycle wheel) giving them a subtle shape like a volcano. When they are stacked, the center rings fit together with no gaps. The new trays are flat, and therefore deeper in the center, so the center rings are taller. If you look down the center hole in the picture on the right, you can see the resulting gap between the center rings of the original tray on the top and the new trays on the bottom. If I stack the new, flat trays on the original trays, I lose about 1/3 of the drying space around the center of the original tray that is directly under the new tray, because the original is a subtle cone-shape, and the new tray is flat.
The second picture shows one of the little hooks on the new tray. My original trays dont have these. I'm not a big fan of the hooks, I already hurt my hand with one while cleaning it prior to use.
I hope these trays will work for me. I am afraid that the center rings having cutouts will change the airflow inside the machine, which the advertising said was specifically designed to be efficient, and eliminate the need for rotating trays.
The new trays are also just a hair larger than the originals, but they seem to stack up together ok.
I haven't been able to contact Nesco yet, to find out if there is another add-a-tray out there for the FD-1040, because they're closed on the weekend.
I'm going to go ahead and try these, because I've got produce that isn't going to wait until I find out where to get trays like the originials (if they're even available anywhere).

I'm really glad that I ordered a few more of these trays when I ordered my dehydrator, because I use them all the time! I love the machine and having the extra space really helps. Likely I will order more. The machine works perfectly and quickly even with the addition of the extra shelves (I make homemade beef jerky for people and chicken jerky for cats - to sell). If I put them in hot soapy water, give them a spin with my hands so all surfaces get wet, and then use a fairly stiff dishwashing brush, they are easy to clean too. Recommended if you get the dehydrator - get a couple of extras of these!

Why is it that the company cannot seem to make durable trays? I make jerky at least once a week, and these trays don't seem to withstand the 160F dehydrating temperature for longer than a few months before warping. The most recent purchase (this product) looked sturdier, with more ribs and a center spacer that should help support the trays. On the SECOND time using, one of the trays has warped so much that I'll have to cut off the bottom tabs just so it will stack onto the other trays without leaving a big gap. One would think the company could make product to withstand their own dehydrators. Unfortunately, I'll prolly have to continue buying these trays every 6 months or so.

We ordered two new trays and screens. The new trays are terrible compared to the originals that came with our FD-1000. The new trays are not as strong and feel like they will break very easily. They no longer have the tall center post, strong ribs and have fewer ribs.
We called NESCO and they said this is their new design. The old design is no longer available. We are very dissatisfied with the new design.

I'm glad that I spent the few extra dollars to get these trays. I would not even consider buying any Nesco dehydrator without getting the extra trays, even if you do not have plans to use them right away, you will need them before you realize it. Remember that these trays lock together when you stack them, just spin them clockwise until they stop. This was something that I did not pick up on in the instructions and found out by accident. Happy drying!

I am not willing to send these back, but I won't be buying them again. The manufacturer has reduced the number of supports by a third, so they're flimsier than the originals. The racks slope upward toward the center post, so they aren't as deep when used with original trays. Finally, they don't lock together, so if you store your unit on a high shelf like I do, the trays can fall off as I'm lifting and the unit is at an angle. I'm going to try some local stores to see if they have any of the old ones in backstock. I'll pay more, but I'll like what I'm getting.

These trays are identical to the ones that came with my Nesco FD-1018A Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator. I bought them to increase the capacity of each batch. I clean them in the dishwasher top rack without heat dry, and it gets them completely clean without damaging them.

Purchased the Garden Master 1050, 1000watt dehumidifier. The 4 trays that come with it are a joke. Got this add-a-tray and was able to do almost 7 pounds of venison jerky in 7 hours. Time to buy a few more trays.

These trays are a must have if you plan to do a lot of dehydrating. Originally my dehydrator only came with 4 and that is definitely not enough if you do a lot of dehydrating. I do think they should make the holes smaller. They are quite large and makes it difficult to put certain things on without it falling through.

I am used to working with a large commercial dehydrator and this dehydrator fits the bill perfectly for home use. Auto shut off and temperature control work perfectly. The four tray's that come with it don't hold enough produce for my needs. I ordered two extra trays and that is okay. If you want to dry large quantities order at least 2-4 extra trays.

I was disappointed in the Nesco American Harvest TR-2 Add dehydrator tray, 15.5 Inch. It was suppose to be a NEW product but it appears to have orange food particles (although small amounts) stuck to the drying grid. On close inspection, I found that there were casting cracks where there should have been none. As to fit, yes, these were sized properly at 15.5", yet the inside circulating whole was of a different design from the original trays which I received with my model FD1040. From observation of fit only, I surmise that this is a "universal" part and not necessarily designed to maximize the airflow in this model, FD1040. Perhaps... this is why the FD1040 can stack only 20 trays where models FD1010 and FD1018 can stack 30 trays. I returned the trays TR-2 and will have to deal with the apparent fact that there are no exact replacement trays for the model 1040 when the time arises. FYI, the time will arise as the original trays coming with the model 1040 have very light weight grids that will crack with any aggressive washing.

I knew right off that four trays in the Nesco FD-1040 1000-watt Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator that I bought would not be enough. So, I bought two more. If that's not enough, I'll buy more. Love that these trays are so easy to clean!

The center tower is also castleated instead of just a round cylinder type. They will lock together with some force but they dont seem like they are correct.

With the original screen, the biggest end of the opening is about 5 mm wide; with the Add-A-Tray, that gap is more than doubled, to 11 mm (enough to get a fingertip through).
I thought the price was already too high, but in the 10 days since I ordered it, the price has gone up another five and a half percent.
The center ring is different; it allows the screens to deflect more (if you were to drop the lid on them or something)--just another chance to break.

I purchased these racks to add to the four racks that came with the dehydrator. The quality of the rack is not the same as the original rack. I have used them several times and they do the job, but I am not sure how long they will last.

It will work in the 1020 but it is not the correct tray to match the origionals. It does not have the locking tangs in the outside rim to lock tray in place the the center is half th height of the origional and does not match the serated edges on the 1020 OEM trays. It may be perfect for the 1010 and 1018 but I am not familiar with thiose units but it is not the correct unit for the FD-1020
