Questions about Berkley Dough Bait Mold
Q:
A 12/16 so is it 3/4 '' ball ???
Answer: Hi, they come in a pair and the 12/16 refers to the size of hooks. One can accommodate #12 treble hook and smaller and the other similar #16 hooks and smaller. They work good and fom a perfect floating powerboat ball without much mess or waste.
Q:
what size and hook used
Answer: There are two sizes in the package. I use the smaller of the two most of the time for trout. I think we use number 12 or 14 treble hooks. We love them.
Answer: I use a size 14 treble hook with the larger mold. Not sure about the size for the small mold, as I haven't used that one yet.
Answer: Size 14 treble hook
Answer: any size

Molds a perfect ball every time, good accessory
Amazon Customer : Useless.
Bait sticks to these clamps more than the hook. Save a dollar and use your fingers.
Matemk : Useless
It's cheap but still not worth the money in my opinion...just use your hands.
Peter Carlson Jr : Four Stars
Exactly as advertised. Works ok
Thundar11 : Good product
Very happy with this purchase.
O Family : Five Stars
Works great with doughbaits and keeps it off your hands.
Wandakay : Not impressed with the "Berkley Dough Bait Mold" Doesn't work as well as they claim it does..
Not impressed with the Berkley Dough Bait Mold. I bought this for my son who has so issues with putting bait on hook.. Its hard to use it don't work like they claim it does, so glad I never bought anymore.. design needs improvement..
Vanisher187 : Works ok but not needed
Works ok its clunky and kind of a pain. It does work and if you don't want to smell like bait this is the answer. I dont ever use it anymore takes some time seems not to fit most of my hooks. I would not get these again ill just use my hands as i can use less bait and secure it better.
Chad Jackson : 2 Perfect sizes for one price
The smaller one was perfect for putting dough bait on tiny trebles for trout fishing. Much cheaper than at other retailers
mls52 : Molds
Ok for what it is molds seem a little small
grrrrrutah : Ladies (and guys with big fingers) gotta get it!
Just barely bought this, haven't used it in the field yet... but tried it at home and think I'm gonna like it! HATE getting trout bait under my nails (yeah I'm a girly girl who loves to fish!) where it usually hardens and need a jackhammer to get it out...this mold makes just the right size ball to disguise your hook, and is easier to use than the last trout mold I bought which was the tube shape you twist down into the bait to get a chunk. Can't wait to use this at the lake!
smtireman : works ok for keeping your fingers out of the dough
it worked ok, the dough gets stuck in the mold and you still end up using your finger to get it out. I prefer the suction device type better that makes a cylindrical plug.
Hat Creek Hereford Ranch RV Park & Campground : Five Stars
As described!
The Wizard : Three Stars
ok
Mattandsandy : Never would have thought this would have been so helpful
Keeps the bait in a nice little ball. Just don't forget to dip the mold in water first.
Walt : Bait mold
Only cheap ones I found
DECOTO : Great instrument
Great product wish it made the balls a little bigger but still great Instrument
James Diess : Cool bait when warm it’s sticky
Better than rolling bait with fingers
Michael Stephen Fitzpatrick : Dissapointing
Not worth using. Cheese and Power Bait stick to it.
Jaime Vargas : Gotta have it for powerbait
These are great to bait your hooks with. Simple to use, dough stays on the hook, don't get your scent on the bait. Highly recommend this to anyone using dough bait
casehardened : neat little scoops!!!!

Houdini : Three Stars
Makes a lot of mess with the squeeze-out
Jim : Gets the Job Done
We fish for little dumb stocked trout in the lakes near my house. They love Power Bait. These handy things do a good job forming a bait ball and help keep your fingers clean. Well mostly clean. Sometimes the ball sticks and you need to take it out with your fingers. Hey if you didn't want to get your hands a little dirty perhaps you shouldn't go fishing right? Seriously this is in my tackle box and I use it every time I fish for dumb trout!
James from Boise : Allowsfor better control of Powerbait ball size
I initially got this item thinking it would help with reducing the amount used and to keep my hands clean. while it does help with creating a consistent sized bait ball, I found that the non-stick surface was really a double-edge sword. It allowed for easy release but sometimes the bail ball would slide out and hit the ground picking up dirt...the deeper into the Berkley trout powerbait jar I went the more this seemed to happen. I've only used this on one trip and I'm sure there has to be a knack to get this thing working better, so I intent to figure it out on future trips. I did find that the hit 'n runs some of the trout attempted did not dislodge the formed bait ball where on the hand-formed balls they would something pop apart at the seams that occur in the hand-forming process.
Overall, a nice idea that in theory should help to conserve the powerbait and reduce fish hit 'n runs that knock the bait loose. For the price it's really hard to not justify getting one to just try out as it costs less than a lot of jigs or a package of treble hooks. I'm sure with more practice it will be a useful tool in my tackle box.

great for teaching my kids how to mold thew Powerbait when i took them fishing . good product
Keefer : works good.
No more gorp on my hands! works good.
Warriorpoet : Worked very nice!
Molded the powerbait into easy to use balls to put on the hooks. The powerbait didn't attract any fish, but that doesn't matter for this review. Worked easily.
Michael D. : Extremely happy. When I first got it it was missing ...
Extremely happy. When I first got it it was missing 1 of the 2 molds I informed them and received a new in a couple of days
N. And L. Rivera : Size matters
Glad it was cheap! The small one fit in the power bait jar but was too small for the sz 14 hook. The bigger one wouldn't fit into the power bait jar, so it was pointless. I won't use them again.

Brad H. : At first this felt like a bit of a gimmicky item
At first this felt like a bit of a gimmicky item, but after using it for a 4-day trip I got the hang of it and actually liked it. It won't leave your hands totally clean or remove the need to contact the bait, but it does produce better results with a little less mess than doing it by hand.
I found this works best by placing your hook into the slot, holding the line to keep the hook solidly in place, and use the hook side to scoop out the bait. You'll still need to mash down or remove the little bit of excess, but works better than it seemed in initial impressions.

Diane E Kimbell : THANK YOU! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.
Ordered two pkgs. one came with package intact but missing a small bait baller. Called yesterday and was told to keep it. A new package was delivered just a bit ago! Am VERY SATISFIED with the way the small oversight was handled. I gave five stars for the scent...know why? THERE IS NO SCENT! That’s a plus for any fisherman!
Small and light enough for a lanyard or key ring...has built in loop for such. Easy to find color...another plus. Genius product.
AMAZON ROCKS and so does BERKLEY DOUGH BAIT MOLDS!

Nik Lance : Yup! I wrote a review on this.
Keeps my hands clean. Nice tight balls! Stays on hooks! Fish requested that I tell the makers to have different shapes for them. They are getting tired of round balls.

Kyle : If you fish with trout dough, you should order this
I know these molds seem like something so very simple, but they really do work.
Set of two, one for size 12 trebles and under and one for size 16 and under.
You basically set the shank of your hook on one side of the mold, (there is a V-notch where that goes) then scoop the trout dough with the other side until you have enough to make a ball. You then press it all together, remove the excess and slowly roll out your ball of trout dough from the mold with a hook inside. If you had enough of a gap to not make a full ball, add a bit more dough and re-press.
There is no super secret here, you just need enough dough on your hook to float it off the bottom. Many people don't put enough on so their dough/hook stay on the bottom. These make sure you have enough to float and also minimize your handling of the dough.
They're cheap, they work, if you fish with trout dough bait, I recommend picking up a set.
Galen L. Erisman : Works Great
Made using Trout bait much easier. Even bought another as a gift for a friend.
