Questions about Berkley Dough Bait Mold
Q:
A 12/16 so is it 3/4 '' ball ???
Answer: Hi, they come in a pair and the 12/16 refers to the size of hooks. One can accommodate #12 treble hook and smaller and the other similar #16 hooks and smaller. They work good and fom a perfect floating powerboat ball without much mess or waste.
Q:
what size and hook used
Answer: There are two sizes in the package. I use the smaller of the two most of the time for trout. I think we use number 12 or 14 treble hooks. We love them.
Answer: I use a size 14 treble hook with the larger mold. Not sure about the size for the small mold, as I haven't used that one yet.
Answer: Size 14 treble hook
Answer: any size
Product reviews of Berkley Dough Bait Mold
Amazon Customer : Useless.
Bait sticks to these clamps more than the hook. Save a dollar and use your fingers.

MADE FISHING WITH POWER BAIT EASIER
AS : Five Stars
Works great! No more wasting bait!
James Wallace : Five Stars
Great product, keeps my hand and fingers from smelling like power bait
Chad Jackson : 2 Perfect sizes for one price
The smaller one was perfect for putting dough bait on tiny trebles for trout fishing. Much cheaper than at other retailers
Kyle : Good ideas with Flaws
Not impressed. Good idea with flaws. Bait will not stay on the hook when you are trying to remove the ball from the mold. Still gets on my wife's hands which is what she wanted to avoid. i will not buy this again

Hawk78 : Not very useful
These are more of a gimmick than an actual useful tool. Makes a bigger mess then if I just use my fingers to scoop it out. Designed to work with treble hooks and not snell hooks.
Anthony L. Williams : Mold That Bait
Made using Powerbait a breeze, doing it by hand can be a PITA for an occasional weekend warrior fisherman like myself and those I fish with. A little pricey for what it is but it gets the job done.
Keefer : works good.
No more gorp on my hands! works good.
Hung Q Ma : Four Stars
I like it
N. And L. Rivera : Size matters
Glad it was cheap! The small one fit in the power bait jar but was too small for the sz 14 hook. The bigger one wouldn't fit into the power bait jar, so it was pointless. I won't use them again.

the bigger one kinda works, Some of the power bait sticks to it though, but I like to use it to scoop bait out of the jar.

Steven : Good
Exactly as described
Digital : Some times its better to do it by hand
Dough gets stuck a lot of times. Some times its better to do it by hand. But it does get the exact portion every time.
A Rex Roblyer : Five Stars
just what I expected.
Justin : It's cheap, buy It!
Not scared to get my hands dirty, but this product allows you to get uniform results with your powerbait. I use a size 16 treble and this mold allows me to get a well-packed "pellet" around the hook that won't fall off during casting, reeling back in, or if a trout decides to "hit" before chowing down. This product allows me to hit that sweet spot in buoyancy so I'm not sitting on the bottom or floating at the top of the water. Easy to use, don't overthink it. Fill half the mold (side with the slit), lay your hook in, slightly over-fill the other side of the mold, and press sides together. The excess bait will squeeze out and your usually left with a perfectly formed ball ready for casting. Yes, sometimes your hook will need re-positioning or it won't be perfectly covered, but it takes 5 seconds to redo the process. Honestly, I catch just as many fish but I waste a lot less powerbait because it doesn't fall off and I don't over apply anymore.
David : These work great and no more smelly messy hands
These work great and no more smelly messy hands.
Austin : Does the trick
Makes a nice dough ball, but you still have to handle it to set it nice on the hook.
Digital : Some times its better to do it by hand
Dough gets stuck a lot of times. Some times its better to do it by hand. But it does get the exact portion every time.
Jaime Vargas : Gotta have it for powerbait
These are great to bait your hooks with. Simple to use, dough stays on the hook, don't get your scent on the bait. Highly recommend this to anyone using dough bait
smtireman : works ok for keeping your fingers out of the dough
it worked ok, the dough gets stuck in the mold and you still end up using your finger to get it out. I prefer the suction device type better that makes a cylindrical plug.
Nuklhed : Didn't work, and spooged out powerbait around the sides ...
Didn't work, and spooged out powerbait around the sides of the mold. First cast I lost the bait. I went back to using my tried and true method that this gimmick didn't fix--my fingers.
James Wallace : Five Stars
Great product, keeps my hand and fingers from smelling like power bait
David Cook : Not what I thought
These are fine, but I still had to roll the dough bait. My hope was it would pack the ball and be useful in getting it on the hook. It did not work out that way. Just easier to roll it with your fingers.
Thomas : Just the right amount for most hooks
Seems very sturdy and durable, which is good for the low price. I usually use the large one which typically takes just the right mount to get the hook to float, depending on the size hook you use. If it doesn’t take enough, you can scoop of a bit more and just add it to the ball it already made so it isn’t a problem. I don’t use the smaller one too much but with a smaller hook it would work well also.
Ricardo : Another great tool
It works great with trebles and singles. I make them all befor I leave to fish. It's easy for kids to make
Steven : Good
Exactly as described
Mickey Porter : Two Stars
Not really easy to use nor very effective in providing a cheese ball.
Thundar11 : Good product
Very happy with this purchase.

Kindle Customer : Works great
Makes perfect balls and don't have to worry about the smell on your hands
John McDonnell : Very Affordable - Is exactly what it is.
Price was great - very useful for grabbing the live bait series ... i bought these with the live bait binder for less than 20 dollars and couldn't be happier.
Hondo : Clean hands!
A nice little devise to a in getting the bait to the hook without handling the bait yourself when fishing for trout!
Galen L. Erisman : Works Great
Made using Trout bait much easier. Even bought another as a gift for a friend.
Ty Mills : Right tool for right application
Is what it says it is
Zachariah Andrews : Best deal
Makes it a lot easier to use
The Wizard : Three Stars
ok
James Wallace : Five Stars
Great product, keeps my hand and fingers from smelling like power bait
grrrrrutah : Ladies (and guys with big fingers) gotta get it!
Just barely bought this, haven't used it in the field yet... but tried it at home and think I'm gonna like it! HATE getting trout bait under my nails (yeah I'm a girly girl who loves to fish!) where it usually hardens and need a jackhammer to get it out...this mold makes just the right size ball to disguise your hook, and is easier to use than the last trout mold I bought which was the tube shape you twist down into the bait to get a chunk. Can't wait to use this at the lake!
James from Boise : Allowsfor better control of Powerbait ball size
I initially got this item thinking it would help with reducing the amount used and to keep my hands clean. while it does help with creating a consistent sized bait ball, I found that the non-stick surface was really a double-edge sword. It allowed for easy release but sometimes the bail ball would slide out and hit the ground picking up dirt...the deeper into the Berkley trout powerbait jar I went the more this seemed to happen. I've only used this on one trip and I'm sure there has to be a knack to get this thing working better, so I intent to figure it out on future trips. I did find that the hit 'n runs some of the trout attempted did not dislodge the formed bait ball where on the hand-formed balls they would something pop apart at the seams that occur in the hand-forming process.
Overall, a nice idea that in theory should help to conserve the powerbait and reduce fish hit 'n runs that knock the bait loose. For the price it's really hard to not justify getting one to just try out as it costs less than a lot of jigs or a package of treble hooks. I'm sure with more practice it will be a useful tool in my tackle box.
Mattandsandy : Never would have thought this would have been so helpful
Keeps the bait in a nice little ball. Just don't forget to dip the mold in water first.
Woods : FISH WILL BITE
great and it does come in handy to order two, the fish will bite and not get the human scent
Stefe01 : Glad I found these
Glad I found these. Keeps ur hands clean also keeps the human scent off bait. Tks for a great little product.
