Will the clip be secure on a 1.5" belt?

Answer: I have found this to NOT be secure on my belt. I’ve stopped using it. One side disengages and the whole thing start flopping. It’s a no-go. YMMV.

Answer: Yes, that belt should work well with this net holster.

Answer: Yeah, good question and the obvious answer is that the closer the width of the belt to the width of the metal opening, the tighter the holster will be. I wear mine on the 1" strap of my Fishpond Rio Grande Wader Belt and it "bends" it slightly. Great, great product!

Answer: Yes, it will work with belts up to 2". As for "secure", be sure that the fabric is velcro-ed well.

Answer: Overall the dimensions are 3.5"W x 3" L. The belt opening is 2".

Where is this made?

Answer: I believe it’s made in New Zealand . The Smith Creek website says it’s handcrafted there. The net holster works well especially when using a HD police style belt

Does it work with a magnetic release and cord?

Answer: The Smith Creek Belt holder works great in place of magnetic releases and cords. Yet, if you have your magnetic release attached to the top of the net, the Smith Creek holder will work.

If you have hips or booty and you’re wearing your wading belt correctly (tight), this device simply does not work effectively. The net cants oddly off your back then starts to twist or tip over. Or, with long handled nets like from Fishpond or Rising, the device traps the upper net against you, forcing the handle (and your waders) right into your crack. Some wearers, such as those who have done a stint in prison, might enjoy that sensation. As for me, no thanks.

Wish I had heeded the advice in other reviews. Too expensive. Not large enough to allow net to seat deeply and prevent net from twisting to a horizontal position. "Open/slotted" slide on clip goes on easy but when net twists it also comes off easily which is not what you want. Belt "clip" will not accommodate a thick belt, only a nylon strap style. The one positive is that it seems to be made from quality materials which should allow it to last a lifetime resting on a shelf while I am fishing.

Handy, but waaayy too expensive.

KansasScout : Works OK for traditional tapered handle nets. Not OK for round straight handles.

How well it works depends on the shape of the net handle. If your net has a tapered handle it works just OK. If you have a straight round handle it will flop all around and be irritating. Way overpriced. I have had more time with it since my initial review now. I wish I had bought the cheaper fabric holster I had before but lost. The aluminum frame bends more than it should and one side sometimes comes off the belt. Adjusting the holster for different sizes is not that easy and can be frustrating. I would not buy another one. They may have led the way but there are better choices now. Still, it does work and you might like it.

Bottom line: great idea, but it doesn't really work with nets that have short handles. My net is a beautifully made Brodin with a handle that's a bit longer than the width of my hand.

Took this with me out to Pa recently to fish some trout now that the temperatures are down from summer. Got to the side of the creek and put my rod together, screwed down the reel, threaded the line, and donned my waders and boots. Then I pulled this net holster out of my bag and grabbed my belt. This is remarkably easy to attach to the belt - takes a few seconds the first time. I put on the belt and tightened it, then took my net and holstered it.

As I stood there - not even moving - my net pulled away from the vertical (against my back) and leaned outward. I reached around and pulled it out of the holster very easily and re-holstered it - again, no problem at all. But again, my net pulled away from my body by several inches. I couldn't fish or even walk around like this, so I didn't use the net holster.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, who is a fly fishing fanatic. He loves it, says it works great and keeps his hands free to do other things while he reels in a fish. It also keeps his net out of the way of trees,etc when he is hiking to a river. He recommended it to all his buddies, and several of them purchased it also.
My sons says there is nothing else like this on the market. I think it would be a fine purchase for any fisherman (or woman)!

Great product. Very well made. Very easy to take fishing net out of the holster & put back in. But the best thing about it, is that you don't feel the weight of the net while it is in the holster. I just wish I found out about it sooner.
