The new Revo S enhances cutting edge technology and functionality with a more compact and ergonomic design that is 15% lighter than the previous model. With a new white look, the Revo S frame is constructed of X2- Cräftic alloy for added corrosion protection. Other features include seven stainless steel ball bearings plus one roller bearing, an improved D2 Gear Design for more efficient cranking power and the reliable Carbon Matrix drag system for smooth, consistent drag pressure across the entire drag range. The Pitch Centrifugal brake utilizes, 6 brake blocks (3 spring loaded and 3 non spring loaded). The spring loaded brake blocks act only when the spool is under high revolution (1st part of the cast) and will then disengage to give maximum distance. The non spring loaded brake blocks act on the entire cast to give maximum control throughout the cast.

How much farther does the cast go than with a black max and how do you use the brake?

Answer: To be honest it probably throws the same I also own a black max and it's hard to out throw it. I use my revo s for flipping n pitching. It does the job of cranking them big girls out of cover. I'd say either way your in the good though

Answer: I can tell a big difference in the 2. Especially after a few years of use. Black max and silver max are junk imo. Black Max went in the trash after a year and ordered more revos. I have S and STX models and both seem about the same to me.

Does the left hand model hold more line?

Answer: Not sure why it would hold more line, the spool size is the same as the right hand.

Answer: No dude. It's just got the handle on the left, so smart people can fish comfortably. They do catch way more fish though.

Answer: I think it's 6.3 to 1 but not 100% this reel is perfect for bass fishing and these are by far the best bait casting reels on the market there just plain awsome I've used more expensive ones and they suck compared to the revo. Weather your casting with the 3 brakes on or pitching with 6brakes on its almost impossible to get a backlash.

Answer: You loosen thumb screw under handle and pull it slightly outward then can swing the side plate open.

Answer: Not a good idea. This is a fresh water reel, smaller salt water fish it can handle but you will have to break it down and completely clean everything after every use because the salt will destroy the reel quickly if you do not.

Answer: I have the revo s. A very light, smooth reel. Im very pleased with it.

Can you run 20 lbs line on the Revco reels? I've noticed that "Max" reels say 12 lbs mono.

Answer: Yes...my 15 year old who is an avid fisherman says you can do it. He says he runs 2o lb on his. He has many different reels and tons of fishing experience. Good luck.

Answer: Of course you can. You can use whatever lb test you want to use. It will, of course, affect how much line the reel will hold. The reel will easily hold enough 20lb test mono to "be useful".

Answer: If you use braided, then yes. Mono might work, but you couldn't spool enough on the reel to be useful.

Nice reel for the money. It's far from their bottom of the bucket reels but not quite the top of the line. Revo S is a good compromise at a decent price. The reel could have a better manual and this is the reason that I give it five stars. Learn to properly adjust ALL drags (internal and external) on youtube.

I am writing this review mostly because of Amazon, not Abu Garcia. I am a life-long Abu fan, I currently have 7 of their baitcasters, the oldest a round reel from the early 90's, to (now 2) Gen 3 Revos. I have appreciated them all, until this order. As an FYI, I annually break down and rebuild my baitcasters, and am confident in the fact I do it right.
My new Revo S purchased on Amazon Feb. 2017 casted well but on the retrieve the line piled heavily to the right of the spool, obviously something with the levelwind mechanism. I couldn't see anything obvious, so I sent it back- they sent me a new one within 4 or 5 days. The replacement however, made a very loud 'humm' when casting. I knew this wasn't right because my other Abu low-profile reels, (and the one I just sent back), casted silently. I fiddled a long time with the brakes and the tension control knob, still made too much noise and casting just seemed off. Its brand new, so I wasn't going to tear it all apart and try to fix it. I contacted Amazon and they sent me ANOTHER replacement, this time with 1 day shipping. The 2nd replacement arrived quickly and this reel fishes perfect.

I appreciate Amazons customer service. I guess there maybe was a bad run of left handed Gen 3 Revo S reels? My Gen 3 STX, Silver Max, and 4 other older round Abus all have performed flawlessly right out of the box.

Just thought Id share my experience.

Zunächst muss ich gestehen, dass ich mir für 150,00€ ein wenig mehr vorgestellt habe. Aber ist noch ok. Bin da von Abu Garcia eigentlich Besseres gewohnt. Habe mich da wohl vom ersten Bildereindruck etwas falsch überzeugen lassen!
Schlimmer wiegt, dass ich wohl ein bereits benutzes Produkt bekommen habe! Öl leer, Fingerabdrücke drauf, Innenleben der Schachtel unvollständig...! Bin msl gedpannt, was der Lieferant / Abu dazu sagt. Dann eohl doch lieber zum Fachhändler, wenn man mal kurz was braucht... ????

Got this reel thru an amazon warehouse sale. It was a little more scratched up than I would have liked due to the previous owner removing line without much care. But it is a very smooth and good looking reel. I love the way it feels. I also own a revo stx and at the moment I prefer this reel.

I bought two of these reels at the start of the summer for my pike lure fishing and I could not have asked for more. The casting range with 50lb braid more then enough, they very smooth with all type lures - jigs, soft baits (even weightless), spinner baits and crank-baits. All around its a great reel for price and they look really good too! I would recommended them to anyone.

The Abu Garcia Revo S is the cheapest Revo on the market. Trust me, it is a great reel. It feels like there is no way that it could be the cheapest Revo. It is best for throwing heavy baits, such as frogs, crankbaits, and Texas rigs. It is still fully capable of throwing trick worms and other such lightweight baits just fine. I have mine on a 7 foot veritos pole by Abu Garcia. My favorite rod for this reel. Plus, it looks sweet. Really smooth and lightweight design. I love it.

Pretty good, but does not hold up all that well in the long run

Would recommend spending for the sx instead of this one. I have fished with it in the salt hundreds of hours over the last year and caught many fish. However, the thumb knob has started to stick and hesitates on engaging with a fish on--it is clicking grinding into place. I like to thumb the spool a lot fishing around structure and expect it to engage when I need it to. I sort of regret my purchase at this point and feel I should have spent more for the revo sx in retrospect (the revo sx is my favorite reel). I would purchase the revo sx again, but not the revo s...it just does not seem to be built as well. I know the response will be that it is not designed for a saltwater environment, but I rinse them with freshwater every time and do not have this problem with my revo sx. People I fish with on a regular basis have also used various other revos extensively in the salt with good results as well.
