Answer: The net I received had actual lead weights. I think it is a nice cast net. I am very satisfied with the product.

does size 6 refer to it being 6 feet diameter?

Answer: It actually opens to a 12' diameter; the 6' refers to the "height" of the net from horn to lead-line. Which is why throwing a 12' net (24' diameter) is really difficult.
