I've recommended this fishing combo to some of my friends just starting to get into fishing. I was really impressed by the quality of this combo since the price point is so low. I didn't purchase from amazon because the local Walmart in my area had the combo for a great deal of $19.99. Even still, I would say just under $40.00 for this combo is still a great deal. I recommend using around a 6 lb mono with this reel and wouldn't go over 10 lb.

NOT a "5-ball-bearing reel," but 2 ball bearings (different from photo also); NOT a "graphite" rod, but fiberglass; rod handle is different from pictured (older style cork). They got here fast - just wish they were as described!

So I bought the Cork Matzuo rod at Walmart probably 10 years ago its an AWESOME rod! Preferably because of the cork grips, I have a thing for the old school feel.

Bought this rod from this vendor twice both times sent me a polymer rubberized grips not the one in the picture.... RETURNED BOTH!

I make jigs and I have to have a good fishing rod and real when I test my lures I make. About 5 crappie and my gear was striped inside. I wish this could of had gotten my money back.

GB : Nice Affordable Matzuo Midweight Combo

Here's an affordably priced combo that is a good deal for the money. I bought mine at WalMart, but this Amazon listing is currently priced below the WMT price.

Matzuo makes a pretty decent mid-weight rod. It will handle more fish than its test line # rating suggests. It's light, easy to hold for long periods and nicely sensitive to alert you to that initial bite. Action is good. Two piece rod. I like it.

The reel had been good for me so far. For the price, you are getting a lot of ball bearings, and the aluminum spool feels much sturdier than any synthetic. Action is fine.

I've only had this a few months so I can't speak to durability. It doesn't show any signs of a problem so far.

At a low price, I think this is a good value in a light to medium weight rod. Easy to keep in a car trunk for those unexpected opportunities. This would also make a good gift for a young person as a 'first real rod/reel combo".

I like mine. No complaints. I have #10 regular mono line on mine.
