Answer: Trays are made of plastic.

Answer: The trays are plastic. Very durable and dishwasher safe.

Answer: Yes, the trays are made out of a polypropylene/Tupperware type of plastic. They clean up easily too after use.

Answer: I believe it has 7 trays and they are about 15 inches in diameter. The very bottom is not a tray and is just a liquid collection pan and stand. Also, the very top is not a tray and is the lid which holds the dryer motor. I did buy this item twice and kept extra trays for more jerky making capacity.

Answer: It will dry strips of meat. You don't have to use ground meat.

Answer: Yes, strips of meat can be used. We also did ground meat and apples but I suggest using citric solution on apples to help make them crisp.

Are these made to turn off and on to keep steady temp?

Answer: Steady temp yes...I use outlet timer to cut on and off. I absolutely love mine!!! I make beef jerky, dried apples, mango etc. would highly suggest it!

Answer: No, stays on continuously. I start drying beef jerky in the evening and it’s done in the morning.

Are the trays the same size? My original trays were 13 1/2 inches. The one I just purchased is much smaller

Answer: The trays in the unit should all be the same, as this unit hasn't changed size. Our first recommendation is to check to make sure that they are the same model number, as different models have different tray sizes, but the FD-28(SK) are always 13.5 inches in diameter. If they are the same model, please call our Customer Service team so we can ask some questions and get you the right trays.

Answer: No, not normal. I run mine for 8 hours to dry beef Jerkey.

Where is this dehydrator made?

Answer: This dehydrator is made with what we call "hybrid" production. The powerhead (motor) is made over in China, then brought to our Two Rivers, Wisconsin facility. Here, we make the Dehydrator's base, trays, as well as any of our dehydrators' accessories like Fruit Roll Sheets, extra trays, or jerky seasonings.

What temperature does this unit get to

Answer: Don't have the exact temperature but it acts similar to a blow dryer on medium heat...there is no heat setting. I use to make beef jerky and it works great. Fill up all trays in the evening and jerky is done in the morning. You don't want too much heat for drying out food.

Answer: It doesn't have a temp guage, just turn it on. It takes six hours to dry two pounds of ground jerky meat down to one pound for me. I wouldn't recommend less than six hours to be sure the meat is cured and cooked to consume safely. This is my second jerkymaster, the first one lasted many years an dried alot of jerky!!

Answer: I've only used for jerky but certain it will work well for fruit as well. Works great considering it only has 1 speed.

Answer: we use mostly for drying peppers. and making cinnamon/sugar dried apples

Answer: I have used mine to dehydrate herbs, sliced tomatoes, apple slices, kale leaves but use it most for dehydrating sliced chicken breast for the dog treat ball (cheaper than buying those bags of expensive chews). I highly recommend it!

Which replacement/extra trays fits this unit? Cant find any with the 28sk on description

Answer: The trays that you would need are the WT-2SG

what seasonings are included.?

Answer: I think there were 2 season packets with a finite amount their own recipe. It is better to depend on a recipe of your own creation. There also are tons of recipes on the internet. I like a pineapple juice, garlic, brown sugar cayan pepper brine.

I love homemade jerky, fruit rolls, fruits....so many more options. It's good to know what you are eating and this helps immensly with those "needed snacky foods". The grids aren't the easiest to clean but still they come out spotless, just needs some extra time. I'd recommend getting a thin long brush to get through them.

Bought this to dry wet tumbled and ultrasonically cleaned rifle and pistol brass ammunition cases. Works great. Runs at about 110 degrees F, and circulates the air across the 7 levels. I purchased a plug in timer, run it for 1 hour if de-primed and 2-4 hours if not de-primed to fully dry the cases.

Top serloin cooked for 6:40 minutes. Rotate all the trays once. Best jerky ever!!! Pat the meat dry with paper towels before cooking to speed up the drying time.
