I would buy a package like this because making my own would cost more in time than buying it since I place a minimum value on my time at $100.00 an hour. Answer: This was a gift and I don't have it anymore. But as I recall it was about 3"x4"X1". About the size of a sardine can.

This is a great little kit. I am reminded of the ones we made in the Boy Scouts out of Sucrets tins. Does anyone remember those? When I go into the woods I take little 'just in case' items like this with me. Great to have and it works.

Great for camping or hiking. I always like to keep things like this in my truck. If you take long trips, you never know when you may break down, so I keep an emergency survival bag in my truck. Matches, water, etc. Better safe than sorry.

Of course you should make your own out of an Altoids box. However, if your time is precious & limited like mine, I'll gladly pay for a kit like this so that my son and I can craft an emergency "cane" pole and try to take a fish out of the creek with it during our "cabin" week.

Honestly not much here. There's more in the can itself than in the contents of it. Listen 12 bucks worth of preparation won't last you long in an emergency. But for a bare and I mean bare bones kit its a start

I agree with others. If you had a bunch of fishing supplies in you tackle box, it wouldn't be hard to put together this kit at a much lower price. I bought it for the convenience and it seems to have the bare essentials for survival fishing. It arrived promptly and in good condition. If you're looking, like I was, for a simple kit to throw in a bag for emergency use that has the basics required to make an attempt at catching fish, this kit covers your bases. It is however pretty skimpy and if you know any avid fishermen that have extra tackle, you could build a much better kit using their stuff. I think I am the most disappointed with the 12lb line. Not that I expect to go deep sea fishing or anything, but that seems pretty weak if I find myself in an emergency I may have to try to shoo away any decent size fish for fear that they will break the line.
Bottom line, if you don't have ANY tackle and don't know anyone with tackle and you want to have the basics of a simple fishing setup for emergency use, this is decent. If you have friends, family, or co-workers that fish a lot, offer to pay them $10 - $15 bucks to put together something similar for you and put it in a small tin and call it good. You will almost certainly end up with better quality materials and a wider variety of tools to use. And if you are in an emergency, trying to feed yourself by catching fish you want to have the best gear possible!

Bought these as a gift for my son who lives, hikes and hunts in Alaska. He has not used yet but was thrilled with small size which fits perfectly in his backpack. They arrived on time as promised.

Still, the items I used out of this kit were the round jig heads, bobbers, fly, salmon bait, and am planning on keeping the tin for something else. What I took from it not really worth the price, but the jig heads were painted with eyes and were not bad.
Can I recommend this to someone else? No. Am I unhappy with my purchase and looking for a refund? No.
If you want an already assembled BARE MINIMUM emergency survival kit that takes up the space of a tin, and requires no effort on your part, buy this.
