product description
Toads are great on the top of the water. Fish it slow thru the lily pads and weeds, or bring her in fast along the top and make the legs splash. Attracts a lot of attention, with good water displacement and a great action. Zoom uses a Salt mixture in their baits that makes a fish hold on for that extra time that gives you more hook ups.

kimbosucks : Will probably be a good buzz bait trailer
Will probably be a good buzz bait trailer. This is supposed to be used with a single hook design that I ise for swimbaits. We will se how the hook up ratios turn out
Bass master : Zoom toad
Kinda dissapointed the bait sinks more then floats. It rolls over when reeling sometimes.
Michael Culotta : Great product
Very happy with the product it worked great caught lots of fish
clay g. : Good frog.
They are Zoom lures, what else is there to say! I have never had much luck on top water, but I have always used Zoom plastics so I figured I would give them a try. I just tied one on during my lunch break and they are heavy enough to cast on an unweighted swim bait hook with no backlash, they get up on plane easily, and the action is just right. I only had some 3/0 EWG hooks with me.... not optimal, I would recommend a 5/0.

L.M. Bass and Pickerel love these in MA. Buddy caught a 5lb largey with one the other day. They cast nice and far as well, but be sure to reel it in fast to get the it humming on the top of the water.
The Bryan's : Big bass love these
Best price and free shipping. These frogs work great for landing big bass.
Not my real name guy : Attracts bass but so tough it impedes hook-setting
I bought a pack of these in black in June 2016 and used them for the first time this past 4th of July weekend on a 200 acre lake in the upper Midwest. Apparently some of these swimbaits, perhaps an earlier version, were floating, but the ones I received were sinking. I rigged it with the Zoom Horny Toad hooks, as pictured and instructed on the packaging, with no weights.
PROS:
- Appears to be quite an attractive lure for bass (and maybe more). I cast it near a dock, it sank, and suddenly my Cabela's heavyweight baitcast rod was bent nearly double. I had caught a 2-lb largemouth an hour earlier with a topwater frog, and whatever grabbed my Horny Toad near the dock hit a lot harder and was at least twice as big, maybe quite a bit more than that. I never saw the fish, but it could have been a pike or muskie. I had three more hits by largemouths a short while later that each were about 16" or so - about the two-pound mark, I'd say, and I did see these fish.
- Nice swimming action similar enough to a real frog that it will get the attention of a lot of fish.
- Can be rigged totally weedless.
- Extremely durable - out of 30+ different swimbaits and soft lures I own - worms, senkos, lizards, craws, shads/minnows, panfish fry, etc... the Horny Toad was by far the toughest and I'm sure it will last the longest. So while they are not really cheap because only a few come in the package, they are a good value because they will surely last a long time. My original toad survived four strikes with no teeth marks.
CONS:
- My original toad not only survived four strikes, it was rejected from the mouths of those four fish and I could not get a hookset. Four hits, one by something very large that was on my line for about four seconds, and I couldn't get a hook set in any of them and lost all four fish, all of which were certainly big enough to have swallowed the entire lure. This occurred because the Horny Toad rubber is extremely tough and even though there is a channel cut into the belly of the bait to allow for inserting the hook, the hook stayed stuck in the rubber of the bait's body instead of pulling through to hook the fish's mouth.
CONCLUSION:
I like how this lure appears to attract the attention of bass, which is always a desirable characteristic in an artificial bait. However, I cannot give a great or even good rating to a lure that won't allow me to catch fish. This lure's failure to allow hooksets on not one or two, but four occasions when I had significant sized fish on the line was a real disappointment. I may try this lure with a different hook or try sharpening my Zoom hook and if I get better results, I 'll come back and update this review. However, assuming that I have no further luck with it, I would have to give a lukewarm-at-best recommendation.

Good soft frog. Can use as a trailor on jigs.
Shadowvail : Great Lure Overall
This frog is my go to lure when nothing else is working. There are a few notable things that I'd like to mention in this review.
There seem to be multiple versions of the zoom toad that you may or may not notice. There is the older version that was much more buoyant that would FLOAT and not sink. You would use it simply as a top water popper or skipper.
Personally I'd cast it out over lily pads and let it make as big a splash as possible and then let it sit on the surface for a few seconds. During that few seconds is when most of my bites would occur. If I didn't get one at that point, I'd twitch it a few times and my other bites would occur then. I didn't have much luck reeling in after that point. This was completely different with the second version of this toad that SINKS.
The sinking version is the version that you will most likely find at this time. The floating ones seemed to be the older model. The rubber material used on the sinking version feels much more solid and thicker than it's predecessor. With that being said, the newer non sinking ones last much longer and will take more abuse from fish, snags, and what have you. I fished these in a slightly different way. Very similar to that of a senko. I cast out and let it sink. If the fish don't take it on the fall, I start reeling slowly to get the toad's feet kicking. The feet are the key with this version. You want the toad to get into a swim so it's feet are wiggling everywhere. I like to keep it just under the surface of the water. I've caught countless large mouths with this technique.
Now, the only problem I have with lures with long feet like these is that the fish tend to grab the feet and not the whole bait. It is absolutely a necessity to wait a second when you feel a bite. If you try to set the hook right away, you will lose the fish. The fish needs a second to go from grabbing the feet, to grabbing the whole hook and bait. This is my only gripe with this lure. But I'm sure you could say the same thing about many other types of lures like this.
Overall I would give this lure a very high rating, due to its durability, versatility, presentation, and price. After countless hours of use and many many fish caught, I highly recommend it.
EDIT 2019: After many years of using this lure, it is still one of my favorites of all time. I didn't mention it above, but these lures are also great for catching pickerel and some smaller pike. Being a predatory fish, they are very big on chasing their prey. These toads are wonderful at mimicking the real motion that a frog would make moving across the surface of the water or just underneath. I've surprisingly even caught a few curious Bullhead catfish with these! Point being, this is a very versatile lure and I continue to stand by it years after my initial review.

Shipped fast good quality
Lan G. : Love these for catching bass
Great quality and movement. The legs paddle when reeled to give it a life like look. I get tons of bites with these in florida. HOWEVER be sure you are using a large enough hook as half the bites seem to come off by the way the hooks sits under it just makes it tough to get a good hook set.

CincySid : Best Toad on the market and not made to float.
Best hard body Toad on the market, been using them for 6 or 7 years. These toads are not made to float, they are made to be fished like a buzzbait over open water. When you bring them acrossed mats and find a hole, let the toad sink in the hole and hang on! Rig it with a Zoom Horny Toad hook for best results, just screw them on. 4/0 or 5/0 hook. Sharpen your hooks always, every hook. Engage your reel and start winding Before the Horny Toad hits the water, gets on plane right away
Michael Culotta : Great product
Very happy with the product it worked great caught lots of fish
WarrenG : If bass are eating frogs, they'll eat this
Spinners are for small bass, This (used with a Gamakatsu hook) is for BIG bass. I use a slow to intermittent retrieve. Small bass will bite the feet, but big bass will bite the hook.
