Does a new battery just purchased need to be charged

Answer: Yes. There is no way of knowing how old a new battery is and most lithium ion battery manufactures state that they need to be charged at least yearly if they have been in storage and always recharge after each usage.

How old is the battery?

Answer: I just this past week purchased 2 new batteries. I had the 2 original batteries when I purchased the knife over 5 years ago and one battery still holds a charge. I use the knife regularly about once or twice a month. Battery life is really good as long as you keep them charges. I know have 3 batteries as of this week and am going on a fishing trip in 2 weeks for 5 or 6 days. I usually catch the limit of Rainbow trout each day and clean the right after the catch.

Answer: I don't think this is a replacement lithium battery. I have a lithium battery in my Rapala knife and I know it will not fit in it. The specs' for this battery states a 30 minute run time and a lithium battery will run approximately 80 minutes. Since I couldn't find a Rapala replacement battery, I disassembled my battery pack and put new lithium batteries in it. It is possible but caution must be observed even if you are experienced in electrical repairs. There are no part numbers or any markings on my Rapala knife or battery pack which complicates finding parts.

Answer: I kept buying batteries and finally purchases aan electric 110 V and a cigaret lighter adaptor cord so know have both. I was always before buying more batteries since they do not last very long. If you don't have a cleaning station with 119 electric just use your car cigarette lighter and car battery. It really works.

Answer: I still use the charger that came with the knife. Batteries do not last very long. After the second season I had to replace them, the replacements did last long either. Won't last through one fishing trip. I bought an AC one works fine.

The origanal batteries that came with the knife seem to hold a much longer charge. I would suggest finding a battery rebuilder to refurbish your old batteries. Batteries plus is also not a good option as they dont use the best batteries available

The knife has been a great addition to the boat. But as we all know the batteries don't last forever. The original batteries lasted 6 years which is way better than any of the batteries in my garage tools. These replacement batteries are a good value an I hope they last even half as long as the originals. The shipping was extremely slow, missed the projected delivery date by a week.

I finally opened this item up to put it on one of my filet knives. It is not the right battery. apparently they have different knives that look the same. They won't let me return because it's been 5 weeks since i ordered them. So I am stuck with 2 batteries that cost me 90 bucks. I love amazon, but it seems like its hard to get in touch with someone to fix little things like this. the 30 day return policy isn't to user friendly when you order lots of things and don't need something until later.

After a few months the battery died and would not take a charge. I bought a new battery; the new one was the wrong size.
Considering shipping charge, I chose to wire the charging system with an adapter. The new battery arrived discharged, so I have
created a connection system, which is now running. If the new battery does not work, I have a power supply which I can set to 7.4 volts. Since the motor and knives run smoothly, I will ignore the poor electrical system. BTW, I have the battery in a fireproof can,
lithium ion batteries are known to catch fire.

Battery suddently stopped taking any kind of charge on my Rapala Ion Filet Knife. So, I went to Prime and searched for Rapala Ion Knife replacement batteries and the first option includes not only the battery, but also the charger for $44. Kind of steep since the whole knife isn't worth that much more. Scrolling down the page I found what LOOKS like the replacement battery. I placed the order and after receiving it and taking it out of the package, it is a completely different battery and I really have no idea what knife it is supposed to fit. After looking at the pictures on Amazon a little more carefully, I can see that there is a difference between the battery with the charger vs just the battery. Apparently I'm stuck with just the $44 combo option on Amazon because I cannot find just the battery listed anywhere.
