The Prime Bucktail Jig is not like any other jig on the market. The unique shape of the head and placement of the eyelet help bring this lure to life. With bulging eyes, holographic finish, and blazing color, it puts fish at your mercy. The uniqueness of this bait is that it doesn’t fall or hang straight down like other bucktails. It glides through the water, almost swimming along. When jigged, its body stays almost parallel to the bottom maintaining a very natural appearance. Like all SPRO products, Prime Bucktail Jigs are made with durable, super sharp Gamakatsu hooks. Once you fish it, you’ll know why SPRO is the shape of things to come. It’s hard to fish the Prime Bucktail wrong. It can be jigged off the bottom for weakfish, fluke, or other saltwater fish. What is the weight of this jig.

Answer: It's somewhere from 3/8 oz to couple oz depended upon your selection

Would these be good for fresh water fish?

Answer: Throw 1/2 to 1 oz into spillways for whiper. I usually fish a dead minnow on the back with good results. Good luck.

Answer: I never used these for fresh water I usually use crank baits and spinners baits for fresh water. I have a strong feeling you could catch some bass with a 1/2 spro (chartreuse) and a soft plastic (Zoom Fluke) if you work the bait right.

Answer: I've only used them in salt water. I would imagine that a 1oz white color could produce some results if you're targeting Small/Large mouth bass. Good luck!

I would like to purchase this for my father who fishes in WI and FL. He mainly does channel and tide fishing in Florida-- What size should I purchase?

Answer: It all depends on what size fish and currents. So buy a few of each. I'd say you can't go wrong with 3/4 oz and 1 oz. But in strong currents and big fish, you'll need heavier ones like 2 oz, etc.

Answer: depends on what size you get

If i fish in the west coast (central and south california) for surfperch, halibut, etc. what size and color should i use?

Answer: JJ, I fish in norcal, sf bay area and sometimes Santa cruz. My go to weight is 1.5oz for halibut and striped bass sometimes just 1oz but on windy days I step it up to 2oz. That's from the surf.

Answer: Have not used them for Salmon. I used the for Lake Trout and caught a few. I needed a heavier for that. I would give them a try for salmon. Good luck. Good quality jig for sure!

Answer: Don't know. I would guess if a weighted bucktail jig was what the salmon were hitting yes. I can only imagine this happening in great lakes or out west. These lures are pretty big and heavy. I think the lightest is 3/8 oz.

These "new type" of bucktails ate awesome. Never had any luck with old type but I take these out to the artificial reefs off of ocean city md on the morning star party boat and I have caught my Flounder limit 4 times in a row. I use them on a high low rig, 4 ounce on the bottom and the 1 ounce on the top. Using gulp & a strip of cut bait is the ticket to catching these flatties. The black sea bass are also attracted to the Spros too.. Of course captain Monty should get some credit for putting us over the fish. Can't wait to get out there again. Just hope the fish are still there!

IMO, this brand is the best designed, made, and quality jig to be had on the market, bar none. The detail in the painting, the highly reflective eyes, the genuine bucktail, and finally the lazer-sharpened Gamakatsu brand hooks all add up to arguably the most effective swimming minnow jig to be seen in years.
These lures, when used alone or tipped with a trailer such as Gulp!, account for at least as many summer flounder as live bait along the Northeast Coast, especially in N.J. Though many colours are offered and effective, the white seems to be the #1 choice for the nearshore and surf fisherman. Due to the design of the head and placement of the hook's eye, this lure can be fished just below the surface with
a rapid retrieve, or throughout the water column. For those fish that are bottom feeders, the retrieve and rod tip are worked slower. The lure is moved in slower spurts ( to a crawl, if necessary ) over the bottom until a strike is acheived.
Once the species of fish is determined, the water column and action are adjusted
accordingly: bluefish, striped bass, weakfish and fluke all love this lure.
And I love this lure simply because they do.

I use this 4 oz as a sinker with a 6" gulp grub when rock fishing in SoCal. Big reds and salmon grouper hit it. Just lost one in the rocks last weekend off Catalina, I'm getting another.

Throw a Gulp grub on the end and slay some fish! You can catch pretty much anything on a Spro bucktail as long as you pick the right color and size. I personally like a white bucktail with a white or nuclear chicken gulp.

Great bucktail for fluke fishing. The lure does get chipped fairly often but I don't really attribute that to be due to the quality of finish on the lure. I'm sure if I used the lure in less rocky areas the paint would not get chipped as frequently. Ever since using Spro Bucktails, I haven't bought any other bucktails so far.

Looks good, I got the 2oz and it’s pretty huge. The locals here off the east coast of North Carolina swear by these spro jigheads 2oz with a 4in gulp shrimp for flounder. One thing for sure it’s gonna have to be decent flounder to suck this down
