From the brand
"First we made things sharp, then we made sharp things." Our story
How we got our start?
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Spyderco’s first knife-related product was the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. Originally sold out of a converted bread truck, it remains one of our best-selling products over 40 years later.
What makes our product unique?
Spyderco pioneered the modern folding knife, introducing now-common features like the pocket clip, serrated edge and one-handed opening capability. Those innovations revolutionized the pocketknife and changed the knife industry forever. Those who know carry Spyderco.
Why we love what we do?
Today, that creative spirit and an uncompromising commitment to quality are still the heart of Spyderco's distinctive product line, which includes a full range of folding knives, fixed-blades, sharpeners & other accessories produced in 5 different countries, including our facility in Golden, CO USA.

Product reviews of Spyderco Lightweight Kitchen Utility Knife with MBS-26 Stainless Steel Blade and Polypropylene Plastic Handle
Montinard : Keep browsing
The handle is bad, I mean dollar store quality may be better. A little small too for the blade length.
The serrations are a very functional pattern, but lose their utility because of how flimsy the blade is. It tends to wander around and not be that controllable as other knives. I mean it has trouble with an apple, so, disappointing. Not getting through it, just feeling like it is wandering.
Basically seems like a replica of a knife I would really like and use a lot, with a better handle and less blade flex.
Spyderco fan, but don't get sucked in by the name there are better knives in this price range. I have a similar plain edge victorinox that is much better.
Final word, I'm sure I'll find some task it can do well, but after I having used it awhile, I can say an easy I would not have bought it.
BALUGA PHIL : WOW A DASH OF COLOR FOR YOUR KNIFE BLOCK!
When you open the package and see this for the first time you're going to ask why no one thought of putting a red handle on kitchen knives before. Then when you use it you will say, this really cuts great! Now if you check my review of the other Spyderco parer I only gave it 4stars. This one is a cut above. The handle alone rates 5stars, but this serrated model slices like a much bigger knife. So even though it wont fit in my knife block parer slots, it sits with the big boys. The color of this one and the blue handled slicer from Spyderco handle a lot of cutting tasks. Buy one, you'll like it.
sweetrick : Reccomend for cutting tomatoes
I highly recommend this knife for tomatoes. Very sharp and can cut through tough tomato skin with ease.
jeanette m : Looks just like the picture
Looks exactly like the picture night is extremely sharp handle is plastic overall very happy with the product would definitely purchase again from the company
Charlie L. : Great light sharp knife
Great
SN : Every kitchen needs one of these.
This awesome knife is back in production! I was introduced to Spyderco almost 20 years ago. I have been using these knives ever since. I was kinda bummed when I learned they had discontinued the kitchen line of knives. But now they are back.
If you have a kitchen you should have one of these.
Larry : Four Stars
Not freaking amazed, but it's a damn good knife. I wanted to be amazed....
wsnarb : GREAT KNIFE
ALL GOOD. I LOVE SPYDERCO KNIVES. I OWN 10.
valley9 : I love Spyderco knives and this is my first kitchen model
I love Spyderco knives and this is my first kitchen model. Great Spyderco steel with a sharp serrated edge and a non-slip handle. I'm sure it will come in handy this thanksgiving when I use it to clean the meat off the turkey, that is always a slippery proposition. I got the blue handle so that the color sticks out when I have it in the knife block on the counter,
Craig : Let Down
First of all, I absolutely love SpyderCo Knives but this one, not so much. The handle is so small and while I have relatively large hands, this knife is for someone with smaller hands. Second, I was really bummed this doesnt come with a sheath. Like really? What knife doesnt come with a sheath? I am returning for these two reasons.
Otto : Great Knife! It's All Good
Very good. I have many many knives and I'd recommend this one to others over some much more expensive knives. No frills, all action. I reach for this over most of my more expensive paring knives.
Thin blade (great for slicing!), great overall shape. Comes super sharp. Handle is plastic, but more than reasonable for the price and the molded shape of the handle is good for gripping.
It's a nice size for sitting down and cutting up a fresh fruit or vegetable to eat.

Fez : Awesome, but . . .
The blade itself is awesome, of course. As other reviews have noted, the blade does seem a little thin, but it works just fine for me. The only caveat is the handle -- it's a bit too short/small. My hands are a little smaller than average, so when I picked this knife up, it surprised me that the handle was entirely enclosed within my grip. (As a sidenote: I also purchased the K09PBK mini paring knife at the same time, and the smaller handle works well there because you can rest your finger on the spine for precise cutting jobs.) Although I am a fan of this utility knife on the whole, gripping it is uncomfortable because there's not quite enough handle bulk to grab on to.
Name : Don't do it
I'm a huge Spyderco fan. It's my go to brand when it comes to knives. But this specific knife is complete garbage it takes way too much effort to cut through any meat and especially any fish. Also the handle feels like cheap plastic because it is. Shame on Spyderco for releasing this garbage
John M. : Great knife.
Great knife and we are very happy with it and it's little brother the 4.5 inch.
Whitfield's : Five Stars
Great knife! Sharp and amazing quality just as expected from spyderco
Southplank : Great Knife
This is a decent knife. It feels good in the hand and cuts well. I really like the Spyderedge serrations. On occasion, I do get a tiny amount of rust where the blade enters the handle. I hand wash the knife and leave it in the drain rack, point up. I'm sure this contributes to the problems. Its not a big deal. I use the knife often and probably once a month I'll notice a little surface rust at the handle joint that wipes off. I think this depends on humidly and how long the knife stays wet on any particular day.
This knife compares in build quality to the similar styled Victorinox kitchen knives, but nothing compares to a Spyderedge.

R. D. : Fantastic product
This is a fantastic product for the money . Super sharp edge that last for years . I would recommend this product to anyone. I would tell people for first time users be careful it easy to cut yourself until you be come familiar with how sharp it is , A great buy for the money and hold a edge for years .
Update 1 - 2020 I notice Amazon is no longer selling the Spyderco kitchen knife, I believe it to be a grave mistake to discontinue a great quality kitchen knife. To my surprise when I return to purchase as a gift they only offered private seller at a hiked price of more then $ 20.00 . I would ask Amazon to please if possible to offer these knives again . Thnaks

lila willardson : Best utility kitchen knife
This is my all time favorite kitchen knife. It is my go-to even though I have cutco knives. Very sharp and easy to handle. Really the perfect size, too.
Patrick B : Enduring Quality and Sharpness
I’ve owned this knife for 11 months now, and I adore it just as much as I did when I first got it. It’s serrations dice through anything I throw at it without any resistance whatsoever, even after a year of heavy use.
Get one of these: you won’t regret it.
fmp7 : Amazing knife, cheap-o handle.
Definitely the sharpest knife in my kitchen and thus most used. Just wish they didn't cheap out so much on the handle! Light-weight plastic handle makes you think its a cheap-o knife.
Cameraman5052 : Handy, practical, razor sharp and not expensive - great deal
For a paring knife this is perfect. It is reasonably priced, it is wicked sharp and a great vaule
Jerry Sumral : Excellent
Excellent
Larry D. Winthrop : Best Tomato Slicer
Wonderful little knife. The best tomato slicer to be found. Cuts anything but is especially great on tomato's.
sweetrick : Reccomend for cutting tomatoes
I highly recommend this knife for tomatoes. Very sharp and can cut through tough tomato skin with ease.
Bryan : if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge
Besides getting tired of using my Spyderco Sage to cut potatoes, onions, garlic and celery. I got tired of using the Sage in the kitchen for other stuff too. I tried ordering some other high end Japanese knock off for $10 less. I felt like an idiot for doing it and sent it back. I'm probably going to buy the Spyderco Kitchen Santoku eventually as well. Bottom line is if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge, then this it. My understanding is that the MBS-26 steel is comparable to VG-10. [...]26-Steel if you want to know more.
wsnarb : GREAT KNIFE
ALL GOOD. I LOVE SPYDERCO KNIVES. I OWN 10.
lila willardson : Best utility kitchen knife
This is my all time favorite kitchen knife. It is my go-to even though I have cutco knives. Very sharp and easy to handle. Really the perfect size, too.
RebelBiker : Super knives
Awesome knives. Very sharp and easy for my husband to sharpen. My old DULL knives have all been replaced with Spyderco. Husband figured these would be good since his hunting knives are all top of the line. He was right.

Michigan Senior Citizen : Fabulous knife
My favorite knife. I had one for more than 30 years, received as a gift from my deceased husband, that was accidentally destroyed by a visitor. I was so sad, for sentimental and functional reasons. So I was thrilled to find they were still being made. The new one does an equally great job in the kitchen. I choose to hand wash and throughly dry mine after each use. I think dishwashers/detergent can degrade good knives. Take care of expensive knives and they'll last and last.
Black is basic, but I must admit the colored handles attracted my attention, especially the blue. But I would prefer that all the kitchen knives were available in all the colors, as some colors I don't like. And perhaps customers would like handles of their knife set to all match. So black it was for me.
jerry allen : Five Stars
my son loves it
WEIRLIGHT : SO EXCELLENT BUY, SO VERY EXCELLENT FOR MY USE , very sharp cutting well..
YOU DO HAVE TO BE MORE CAREFUL USING IT THAN WITH A " REGULAR " KNIFE ITS SIZE , ESPECIALLY UNTIL YOU GET USE TO IT. I HAVE A NUMBER OF SPYDERCO FOLDING KNIVES WITH SHORTER BLADES TO WORK WITH ( INCLUDING SALT WATER KNIVES ) , I HAD BEEN USING THEM FOR COOKING SOME AND LIKED THEM A LOT. STILL WITH THIS LONGER SPYDERCO STYLE SERRATED BLADE IT IS EVEN BETTER TO HANDLE FOR PREP OF FRUIT , VEGETABLES, FILLETING FISH , MEAT , AND EVEN CHICKEN .

Charlie L. : Great light sharp knife
Great
BALUGA PHIL : A LITTLE GEM FROM SPYDERCO!
This is really a 5star knife, but it wont fit in the paring knife slots in my knife block. Overall size, shape and grip are super. Sharp out of the box and nice looking. Comes with a cardboard sleeve if you want to keep it in a drawer. I do recommend this knife.
Amazon Customer : perfect paring knife
I got sick of sharpening garbage kitchen knives. instead of buying a new set I got a couple spydercos. now i cant go back
abba : Great sharp spyder
Great knife if you want to cut rope cardboard food etc but if you want chef quickness and uniformity you’ll have to hold the knife angled toward your knuckles if your right handed due to the single bevel one sided serrated blade if your a lefty good to go when you cut using a chef knife or a double bevel blade the cut is centered but this blade will shave away from the side that has the serrations still great knife but not imho good for delicate or fast knife work or quick slicing etc I love sylerco pocketknives this makes a good self defense weapon if your attacked in your kitchen spyder edge rules slice and dice if you dont mind some sloppiness and a lot of blood loss lol

MrBelge : Trusty Rusty
Hi, am a widower so I am doing all the cooking which I really enjoy, also I am a big fan of the Spyderco brand ( am a edged weapon collector and have several Spyderco blades) and one day I saw these kitchen/cooking blades so I decided to try them, I have a few now and they are just GREAT! I use them constantly, they stay sharp, are easy to manipulate, am so glad to have them! BUT, I do wash my dishes by hand and 99% of the time I dry them and put them away, well Sunday night one of my favorite program was on so I let my dishes dry on a mat in the kitchen, I got a bit of CRS and forgot about it and went to bed, next morning I checked and put away all those dishes ( not many since it is only me and my doggie!), I noticed a brown spot on one of the knives, right where the blade meets the rubber handle! I thought I didn't clean it properly but it wasn't dirt! It was RUST! All across the bottom on both sides, one spot actually dug in the Steel! Now the knife had been left for approximately 9 hours! The rest of the blade was perfect, Not a spot of rust, just by the handle! When I grabbed the other knife, you can guess what I saw! That's right! The exact same thing,at the same area! So to make a long story short, make sure that when you clean your awesome blades that you dry them real well before you do something else! I can't see what's under the rubber handle but I bet it's not pretty! That's why the 4 stars instead of 5! BTW I also have Cold Steel blades and in a couple of years using that brand have never seen rust! I still prefer the Spyderco blades, just wished I had known!
Marla Belostock : and loved it, so I ordered a new one
We had one before, and loved it, so I ordered a new one, but mistakenly ordered a plane edge( not nearly as good),so I ordered another with a serrated blade, this is a amazing kitchen knife, and my wife is very happy, and I'm back in the kings chair...
John M. : Great working knife
We love this knife! We had the same knife for several years and lost it during multiple moves, spyderco stopped making them for a while and the wife was mad, found that they were back in production and grabbed one, (Wife Happy Now)!!???? She cooks a lot and good knives are a must, we also got its bigger brother the 6.5 and also happy with that purchase.
WEIRLIGHT : SO EXCELLENT BUY, SO VERY EXCELLENT FOR MY USE , very sharp cutting well..

Cap Drayman : Great Go-To Knife.
This thing does a lot. Slices bread as well as tomatoes. Good stainless steel--not the hardest, but not brittle. If you hit a hard bone, it won't be a disaster. The blue handle makes it easy to find in the knife rack. Compared to high-end German knives, the blade is thinner--good and bad--lighter, more flexible, but less powerful. Not a good choice for chopping or filleting, but for most other things, it shines. I might grind the tip to a rounded or flat profile so as to get the last of the mayo out of the jar when making a sandwich. Still, that said, I'm happy with my purchase.
GaryKintheOC : Great Blade but
I bought this knife to replace the same knife that I bought many years ago. The good news is the blade is exactly the same, It's excellent. The bad news is the handle is much smaller and seems to be very slippery.
H. J. Elston : Very hard to find!
I fell in love with the Spyderco kitchen knives when I was visiting Jackson Hole Wyoming about a decade ago. Shortly after the visit, Spyderco stopped making them and they were absolutely impossible to find. I was happy to see these while browsing on Amazon - this was a complete impulse buy. I wish I could find the shorter red-handled ones too - I'd buy a couple of them too!
James E Fucini : Very very well made
This is my second one just to have one in both o my homes no one makes a etnift I just wished they made a chopping one
