From the brand
"First we made things sharp, then we made sharp things." Our story
How we got our start?
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Spyderco’s first knife-related product was the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. Originally sold out of a converted bread truck, it remains one of our best-selling products over 40 years later.
What makes our product unique?
Spyderco pioneered the modern folding knife, introducing now-common features like the pocket clip, serrated edge and one-handed opening capability. Those innovations revolutionized the pocketknife and changed the knife industry forever. Those who know carry Spyderco.
Why we love what we do?
Today, that creative spirit and an uncompromising commitment to quality are still the heart of Spyderco's distinctive product line, which includes a full range of folding knives, fixed-blades, sharpeners & other accessories produced in 5 different countries, including our facility in Golden, CO USA.

Product reviews of Spyderco Lightweight Kitchen Utility Knife with MBS-26 Stainless Steel Blade and Polypropylene Plastic Handle
Jonathan : Rusts easier than hoped
I love Spyderco and really like the way this knife handles - but I've noticed it tends to rust too easily (I wash and dry by hand, yet still develop rust spots!) Not had an issue on any Spyderco folders with vg10/cpm s30/90v etc. Really good value otherwise.
lila willardson : Best utility kitchen knife
This is my all time favorite kitchen knife. It is my go-to even though I have cutco knives. Very sharp and easy to handle. Really the perfect size, too.
James E Fucini : Very very well made
This is my second one just to have one in both o my homes no one makes a etnift I just wished they made a chopping one
Coleen : Best knife in the block
It is a Spyderco. That says it all.
Landon Davis : Great in many ways, but...
I am a huge fan of Spyderco knives and Spyderco's ceramic sharpening stones and Sharpmaker sharpening base.
The first thing I noticed was that this is made in Seki City, Japan, which is always a good sign. Some of Spyderco's less-expensive knives are made in china, and I often notice a difference in quality.
The second thing I felt was that the handle has a very nice texture, a comfortable balance, and good positioning for use in the kitchen on a cutting board. Then, I tested the edge and found the beautiful Spyderco serrations to be as sharp as ever.
But upon using it for several weeks, I was disappointed. The one-sided serration, paired with the width of the blade, makes it impossible for me to cut straight slices through foods. (It starts to curve to one side while you're slicing, you know what I mean?) So I say, definitely get a Spyderco kitchen knife, but try the plain edge instead -- you get all the great design and sharpness, with more consistent slicing of straight edge!
P. White : Awesome Knife!!!
My parents have had this knife in their kitchen for many years. It's been an ongoing joke in the family about who was going to inherit it in their will. Yes, it's that good! It's amazingly sharp and hasn't dulled with over 10 years of use. It cuts though just about anything like it's butter. While the plastic handle is nothing fancy like you might get with a more high-end expensive knife, it does the job nicely. Personally, I'm glad that it's made that way to make it a very inexpensive knife that anybody can afford to buy. And unlike a very expensive knife, I can use it every day and just throw it in the dishwasher and know it will hold up well.

Allan : Very sharp!!
This baby is sharp, so be careful. I cut myself within 2 minutes and again the next time I used it. My old knife was so crappy I had gotten careless.
Ted Torrez : Best knife ever! Love it.
I love this knife. It is expensive but worth the money.
fmp7 : Amazing knife, cheap-o handle.
Definitely the sharpest knife in my kitchen and thus most used. Just wish they didn't cheap out so much on the handle! Light-weight plastic handle makes you think its a cheap-o knife.
Rex : Some of the best knives I've ever used! You won't be disappointed!
This knife is so sharp, so well made, it's exactly what I expected from SPYDERCO! I knew at the price point it was not going to be the ultimate in cooking knives, but the main thing a knife is supposed to do is cut, right? This one cuts like nobody's business!!! My wife was using it to cut an overly ripe tomato, which is notorious for being difficult to cut, this knife blazed a trail through it like it was cutting warm butter! If your on the edge about this knife, hope its NOT the Spyderedge! Get off the edge and get some of these knives, I'm slowly building up a set of these knives for my wife, at the price these are it shouldn't take too long, I do believe I'm up to 3 so far! I'll be buying more!
Aoguma : SpyderEdge
An excellent knife for the money. Edge retention is superior. The serrations are Spyderco proprietary and very efficient. The knife is flexible and lightweight. The handle is comfortable. The system is dishwasher safe. You can spend more get less knife.
Kend : Good price
Keen cutting edge and has so far remained
SERGIO TRES : Top super plus
What can I say... It's a Spyderco! I always carry one endura serrated to walk my dog, and it saved his life once. Now, my kitchen can be happy too. Killer blades. Complete satisfaction is what I received. And a beautiful red handle!

F. Jones : ... chefs knife for over 20 years and it is like new. I also have a 6" serrated Spyderco ...
I have a larger Spyderco Santuku chefs knife for over 20 years and it is like new. I also have a 6" serrated Spyderco kitchen utility knife. This is a great small knife for paring and kitchen chores. Shaving sharp out of the box, I expect many years of service from this little guy!
Chautauqua : Sharpest knife in the kitchen ... 4 a while
My new kitchen knife, I love it, not much more to say.
Spyderco quality all the way.
MG : The perfect size
Love the size of this knife. I had one previously and somehow it was lost. I was very happy to find another one online.
Amazon Customer : Great value!
Great value at the price asked. So fearful blade geometry. The handle is better for smaller hands.
Amazon Customer : Great Knife...well maybe not? Time is telling
Great Knife, Will buy again. Will require fair amount of sharpening. Edge goes away fairly quickly.
Update, Knife is already rusting, hard to keep sharp.
R. D. : Fantastic product
This is a fantastic product for the money . Super sharp edge that last for years . I would recommend this product to anyone. I would tell people for first time users be careful it easy to cut yourself until you be come familiar with how sharp it is , A great buy for the money and hold a edge for years .
Update 1 - 2020 I notice Amazon is no longer selling the Spyderco kitchen knife, I believe it to be a grave mistake to discontinue a great quality kitchen knife. To my surprise when I return to purchase as a gift they only offered private seller at a hiked price of more then $ 20.00 . I would ask Amazon to please if possible to offer these knives again . Thnaks
Nichole : Five Stars
Best kitchen knife ever! Very sharp, lightweight and easy to clean!
SERGIO TRES : GREAT blade
What can I say... It's a Spyderco! I always carry one endura serrated to walk my dog, and it saved his life once. Now, my kitchen can be happy too. Fantastic blades. Complete satisfaction is what I received. And a beautiful handle!
T : Five Stars
Excellent, came sharp and well balanced. Great for the money. Does well as a bread knife too.

Rebn : Great knives
This is replacing a kitchen knife that lasted for twenty years. Can do better than that with a serrated knife.

Jerry Sumral : Excellent
Excellent
Samurai Space Bebop : Mind your fingers.
Be sure to check the dimensions or find photos for scale. The handle is quite small on this model as compared to the santoku.
This knife is incredibly sharp, as is usual with Spyderedge blades. When I eventually need to sharpen it, I'll use my sharpmaker.
Southplank : Great Knife
This is a decent knife. It feels good in the hand and cuts well. I really like the Spyderedge serrations. On occasion, I do get a tiny amount of rust where the blade enters the handle. I hand wash the knife and leave it in the drain rack, point up. I'm sure this contributes to the problems. Its not a big deal. I use the knife often and probably once a month I'll notice a little surface rust at the handle joint that wipes off. I think this depends on humidly and how long the knife stays wet on any particular day.
This knife compares in build quality to the similar styled Victorinox kitchen knives, but nothing compares to a Spyderedge.
Rex : Some of the best knives I've ever used! You won't be disappointed!

Kindle Customer : Buy This: Quit Thinking About It
Sharp as F...; just like their pocket knives. Great as a bread knife or to slice tomatoes. But it is also fine for chopping vegetables, carving or anything that a smaller chef's knife can do. The ONLY gripe I could possibly come up with is that it tends to cut into my cutting boards. You could cut a tree down with this thing. If I could only have one knife, this would beat out my Wusthof or Global. I think it is a given that it is better than a Henckles knife. I just do not think Henckles are as good as any of the afore mentioned brands (or Victorinox/Forschner, Sanelli, etc. for that matter).
I love it and might get another. Really good value. No one does a serrated edge like Spyderco. That is just a fact.
jerry allen : Five Stars
my son loves it

Sharp enough for good kitchen and eating needs.
taylor inkster : Awesome slicer
Great knife! Sliced through frozen chicken so problem. Comfy and perfectly weighted.
James E Fucini : Very very well made
This is my second one just to have one in both o my homes no one makes a etnift I just wished they made a chopping one
BALUGA PHIL : WOW A DASH OF COLOR FOR YOUR KNIFE BLOCK!
When you open the package and see this for the first time you're going to ask why no one thought of putting a red handle on kitchen knives before. Then when you use it you will say, this really cuts great! Now if you check my review of the other Spyderco parer I only gave it 4stars. This one is a cut above. The handle alone rates 5stars, but this serrated model slices like a much bigger knife. So even though it wont fit in my knife block parer slots, it sits with the big boys. The color of this one and the blue handled slicer from Spyderco handle a lot of cutting tasks. Buy one, you'll like it.

This knife compares in build quality to the similar styled Victorinox kitchen knives, but nothing compares to a Spyderedge. This is a good knife for tomatoes, bagels and small breads. Depending how you cut your bagels, this may not be long enough. I like to plunge the tip in from the side and rotate the bagel as I cut. Perfect for that. If you like to saw the whole bagel at once, get the longer knife.
H. J. Elston : Very hard to find!
I fell in love with the Spyderco kitchen knives when I was visiting Jackson Hole Wyoming about a decade ago. Shortly after the visit, Spyderco stopped making them and they were absolutely impossible to find. I was happy to see these while browsing on Amazon - this was a complete impulse buy. I wish I could find the shorter red-handled ones too - I'd buy a couple of them too!
SERGIO TRES : GREAT blade
What can I say... It's a Spyderco! I always carry one endura serrated to walk my dog, and it saved his life once. Now, my kitchen can be happy too. Fantastic blades. Complete satisfaction is what I received. And a beautiful handle!
Bryan : if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge
Besides getting tired of using my Spyderco Sage to cut potatoes, onions, garlic and celery. I got tired of using the Sage in the kitchen for other stuff too. I tried ordering some other high end Japanese knock off for $10 less. I felt like an idiot for doing it and sent it back. I'm probably going to buy the Spyderco Kitchen Santoku eventually as well. Bottom line is if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge, then this it. My understanding is that the MBS-26 steel is comparable to VG-10. [...]26-Steel if you want to know more.
MrBelge : Trusty Rusty
Hi, am a widower so I am doing all the cooking which I really enjoy, also I am a big fan of the Spyderco brand ( am a edged weapon collector and have several Spyderco blades) and one day I saw these kitchen/cooking blades so I decided to try them, I have a few now and they are just GREAT! I use them constantly, they stay sharp, are easy to manipulate, am so glad to have them! BUT, I do wash my dishes by hand and 99% of the time I dry them and put them away, well Sunday night one of my favorite program was on so I let my dishes dry on a mat in the kitchen, I got a bit of CRS and forgot about it and went to bed, next morning I checked and put away all those dishes ( not many since it is only me and my doggie!), I noticed a brown spot on one of the knives, right where the blade meets the rubber handle! I thought I didn't clean it properly but it wasn't dirt! It was RUST! All across the bottom on both sides, one spot actually dug in the Steel! Now the knife had been left for approximately 9 hours! The rest of the blade was perfect, Not a spot of rust, just by the handle! When I grabbed the other knife, you can guess what I saw! That's right! The exact same thing,at the same area! So to make a long story short, make sure that when you clean your awesome blades that you dry them real well before you do something else! I can't see what's under the rubber handle but I bet it's not pretty! That's why the 4 stars instead of 5! BTW I also have Cold Steel blades and in a couple of years using that brand have never seen rust! I still prefer the Spyderco blades, just wished I had known!
jeanette m : Looks just like the picture
Looks exactly like the picture night is extremely sharp handle is plastic overall very happy with the product would definitely purchase again from the company
valley9 : I love Spyderco knives and this is my first kitchen model
I love Spyderco knives and this is my first kitchen model. Great Spyderco steel with a sharp serrated edge and a non-slip handle. I'm sure it will come in handy this thanksgiving when I use it to clean the meat off the turkey, that is always a slippery proposition. I got the blue handle so that the color sticks out when I have it in the knife block on the counter,
Jonathan : Rusts easier than hoped
