From the brand
"First we made things sharp, then we made sharp things." Our story
How we got our start?
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Spyderco’s first knife-related product was the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. Originally sold out of a converted bread truck, it remains one of our best-selling products over 40 years later.
What makes our product unique?
Spyderco pioneered the modern folding knife, introducing now-common features like the pocket clip, serrated edge and one-handed opening capability. Those innovations revolutionized the pocketknife and changed the knife industry forever. Those who know carry Spyderco.
Why we love what we do?
Today, that creative spirit and an uncompromising commitment to quality are still the heart of Spyderco's distinctive product line, which includes a full range of folding knives, fixed-blades, sharpeners & other accessories produced in 5 different countries, including our facility in Golden, CO USA.

Product reviews of Spyderco Lightweight Kitchen Utility Knife with MBS-26 Stainless Steel Blade and Polypropylene Plastic Handle
Larry : Four Stars
Not freaking amazed, but it's a damn good knife. I wanted to be amazed....
Rebn : Great knives
This is replacing a kitchen knife that lasted for twenty years. Can do better than that with a serrated knife.

Bryan : if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge
Besides getting tired of using my Spyderco Sage to cut potatoes, onions, garlic and celery. I got tired of using the Sage in the kitchen for other stuff too. I tried ordering some other high end Japanese knock off for $10 less. I felt like an idiot for doing it and sent it back. I'm probably going to buy the Spyderco Kitchen Santoku eventually as well. Bottom line is if you like a knife that will take and keep a super sharp edge, then this it. My understanding is that the MBS-26 steel is comparable to VG-10. [...]26-Steel if you want to know more.
RebelBiker : Super knives
Awesome knives. Very sharp and easy for my husband to sharpen. My old DULL knives have all been replaced with Spyderco. Husband figured these would be good since his hunting knives are all top of the line. He was right.
Jonathan : Rusts easier than hoped
I love Spyderco and really like the way this knife handles - but I've noticed it tends to rust too easily (I wash and dry by hand, yet still develop rust spots!) Not had an issue on any Spyderco folders with vg10/cpm s30/90v etc. Really good value otherwise.
SERGIO TRES : Top super plus
What can I say... It's a Spyderco! I always carry one endura serrated to walk my dog, and it saved his life once. Now, my kitchen can be happy too. Killer blades. Complete satisfaction is what I received. And a beautiful red handle!
Maureen Hughes : VERY BEST Go-To Kitchen Knife
Little Red Gem
Never Dull
Good for paring, slicing, dicing and just about anything.
Not sure Spydeco have these available any longer.
Buying them whenever and wherever possible.
Fez : Awesome, but . . .
The blade itself is awesome, of course. As other reviews have noted, the blade does seem a little thin, but it works just fine for me. The only caveat is the handle -- it's a bit too short/small. My hands are a little smaller than average, so when I picked this knife up, it surprised me that the handle was entirely enclosed within my grip. (As a sidenote: I also purchased the K09PBK mini paring knife at the same time, and the smaller handle works well there because you can rest your finger on the spine for precise cutting jobs.) Although I am a fan of this utility knife on the whole, gripping it is uncomfortable because there's not quite enough handle bulk to grab on to.
MrBelge : Trusty Rusty
Hi, am a widower so I am doing all the cooking which I really enjoy, also I am a big fan of the Spyderco brand ( am a edged weapon collector and have several Spyderco blades) and one day I saw these kitchen/cooking blades so I decided to try them, I have a few now and they are just GREAT! I use them constantly, they stay sharp, are easy to manipulate, am so glad to have them! BUT, I do wash my dishes by hand and 99% of the time I dry them and put them away, well Sunday night one of my favorite program was on so I let my dishes dry on a mat in the kitchen, I got a bit of CRS and forgot about it and went to bed, next morning I checked and put away all those dishes ( not many since it is only me and my doggie!), I noticed a brown spot on one of the knives, right where the blade meets the rubber handle! I thought I didn't clean it properly but it wasn't dirt! It was RUST! All across the bottom on both sides, one spot actually dug in the Steel! Now the knife had been left for approximately 9 hours! The rest of the blade was perfect, Not a spot of rust, just by the handle! When I grabbed the other knife, you can guess what I saw! That's right! The exact same thing,at the same area! So to make a long story short, make sure that when you clean your awesome blades that you dry them real well before you do something else! I can't see what's under the rubber handle but I bet it's not pretty! That's why the 4 stars instead of 5! BTW I also have Cold Steel blades and in a couple of years using that brand have never seen rust! I still prefer the Spyderco blades, just wished I had known!
JoeyH : Five Stars
very sharp
lila willardson : Best utility kitchen knife
This is my all time favorite kitchen knife. It is my go-to even though I have cutco knives. Very sharp and easy to handle. Really the perfect size, too.
Yogi Trout Bear : Spyderco Fan , but this kitchen knife is for very small hands only
i am a total fan of spyderco pocket knives. this is a great knife but probably for small hands only
MG : The perfect size
Love the size of this knife. I had one previously and somehow it was lost. I was very happy to find another one online.

Cap Drayman : Great Go-To Knife.
This thing does a lot. Slices bread as well as tomatoes. Good stainless steel--not the hardest, but not brittle. If you hit a hard bone, it won't be a disaster. The blue handle makes it easy to find in the knife rack. Compared to high-end German knives, the blade is thinner--good and bad--lighter, more flexible, but less powerful. Not a good choice for chopping or filleting, but for most other things, it shines. I might grind the tip to a rounded or flat profile so as to get the last of the mayo out of the jar when making a sandwich. Still, that said, I'm happy with my purchase.
Jerry M. Honeycutt : Excellent kitchen knife
Excellent kitchen knife. My wife used one we have had for over 15 years until the blade fell out of the handle (Too many dishwasher cycles). It was very easy to sharpen and didn't need it often. She says it was the perfect size and weight for her to use as the "Go-to" of choice. It originally started out as a bait knife for cutting frozen herring into halibut sized pieces :) When it finally failed on her I was glad to see they were available here for just about the price I paid many many years ago! Arrived in a very nice box! Thanks Spyderco!
wingwarp : These are the best knives. Glad they're making them again
These are the best knives. Glad they're making them again!
taylor inkster : Awesome slicer
Great knife! Sliced through frozen chicken so problem. Comfy and perfectly weighted.
Amazon Customer : THEY RUST
The handles are tiny and uncomfortable and they rust either in the dishwasher or just in washing them by hand. Junk.
Lori J Hulen : Best Knife I have ever owned!
I have used Spyderco knives for years. I purchased my first one at the Del Mar Fair over 2 decades ago.
This knife fits my hand perfectly. The serrated blade cuts through tomatoes like a dream.
Kend : Good price
Keen cutting edge and has so far remained
P. White : Awesome Knife!!!!
My parents have had this knife in their kitchen for many years. It's been an ongoing joke in the family about who was going to inherit it in their will. Yes, it's that good! It's amazingly sharp and hasn't dulled with over 10 years of use. It cuts though just about anything like it's butter. While the plastic handle is nothing fancy like you might get with a more high-end expensive knife, it does the job nicely. Personally, I'm glad that it's made that way to make it a very inexpensive knife that anybody can afford to buy. And unlike a very expensive knife, I can use it every day and just throw it in the dishwasher and know it will hold up well.

Exceptional kitchen knife. Blade is not as thick as previously owned spyderco kitchen knives, flexes while cutting which prevents making precise thickness slices. Thicken your blade another millimeter Spyderco and problem solved.

Aoguma : SpyderEdge
An excellent knife for the money. Edge retention is superior. The serrations are Spyderco proprietary and very efficient. The knife is flexible and lightweight. The handle is comfortable. The system is dishwasher safe. You can spend more get less knife.
RebelBiker : Super knives

Honey and Tom : amazing.
My very first spyderco and I love it! I own the 4.48" Paring knife and the 6.5" utility knife and they are now the only two kitchen knives I need. I plan on owning all of spydercos kitchen knives. They cut through EVERYTHING EVERYTIME without fail! I have bought these for several people and they all love them all well. it's a great knife, you won't ever want any other knife.
Southplank : Great Knife
This is a decent knife. It feels good in the hand and cuts well. I really like the Spyderedge serrations. On occasion, I do get a tiny amount of rust where the blade enters the handle. I hand wash the knife and leave it in the drain rack, point up. I'm sure this contributes to the problems. Its not a big deal. I use the knife often and probably once a month I'll notice a little surface rust at the handle joint that wipes off. I think this depends on humidly and how long the knife stays wet on any particular day.
This knife compares in build quality to the similar styled Victorinox kitchen knives, but nothing compares to a Spyderedge. This is a good knife for tomatoes, bagels and small breads. Depending how you cut your bagels, this may not be long enough. I like to plunge the tip in from the side and rotate the bagel as I cut. Perfect for that. If you like to saw the whole bagel at once, get the longer knife.
Patrick B : Enduring Quality and Sharpness
I’ve owned this knife for 11 months now, and I adore it just as much as I did when I first got it. It’s serrations dice through anything I throw at it without any resistance whatsoever, even after a year of heavy use.
Get one of these: you won’t regret it.
James E Fucini : Very very well made
This is my second one just to have one in both o my homes no one makes a etnift I just wished they made a chopping one
Amazon Customer : Almost paid an exorbitant amount when they were discontinued originally.
Love these knives, bought two in the early 90's and two more now Spyderco has started making them again. I prefer the four inch utility knife over the 6 inch as the 6 inch seems to flex too much for me. I have a total of 5 of these knives with one six inch. The knives seem almost identical to the ones from the 90s which are still sharp even though they have had significant use. I love the red handles personally. Highly recommend for the kitchen, even at $30 a knife.

Ted Torrez : Best knife ever! Love it.
I love this knife. It is expensive but worth the money.
R. D. : Fantastic product
This is a fantastic product for the money . Super sharp edge that last for years . I would recommend this product to anyone. I would tell people for first time users be careful it easy to cut yourself until you be come familiar with how sharp it is , A great buy for the money and hold a edge for years .
Update 1 - 2020 I notice Amazon is no longer selling the Spyderco kitchen knife, I believe it to be a grave mistake to discontinue a great quality kitchen knife. To my surprise when I return to purchase as a gift they only offered private seller at a hiked price of more then $ 20.00 . I would ask Amazon to please if possible to offer these knives again . Thnaks
Susan C. : AT LAST!! Best Knife in the World Available Again!!
A few decades ago, my husband and I bought two of these knives. They quickly became our kitchen essentials--and one still is (the other one was accidentally degraded in a dishwasher and the handle eventually fell apart). We gave them as gifts, but then the company quit making them, to our great disappointment. We are delighted that they have been brought back! Although I'd prefer a black handle (just a style thing), the knife itself is just as good as it's older cousin. Razor sharp, cuts meat or veggies like butter.
CLARENCE ROBINSON : Sharp enough for good kitchen and eating needs.
Sharp enough for good kitchen and eating needs.
GaryKintheOC : Great Blade but
I bought this knife to replace the same knife that I bought many years ago. The good news is the blade is exactly the same, It's excellent. The bad news is the handle is much smaller and seems to be very slippery.
H. J. Elston : Very hard to find!
I fell in love with the Spyderco kitchen knives when I was visiting Jackson Hole Wyoming about a decade ago. Shortly after the visit, Spyderco stopped making them and they were absolutely impossible to find. I was happy to see these while browsing on Amazon - this was a complete impulse buy. I wish I could find the shorter red-handled ones too - I'd buy a couple of them too!

My husband, a Spyderco fan, gave one of these to his wife, mother in law, sister in law sister, sisters, brothers. It is everyones favorite. These New ones are for nieces and nephew's wives. My husband has asked the president of Spyderco to bring this knife back for years at the Annapolis boat show. He also bought me a plain edge which i also love.
Lori J Hulen : Best Knife I have ever owned!
I have used Spyderco knives for years. I purchased my first one at the Del Mar Fair over 2 decades ago.
This knife fits my hand perfectly. The serrated blade cuts through tomatoes like a dream.
Otto : Great Knife! It's All Good
Very good. I have many many knives and I'd recommend this one to others over some much more expensive knives. No frills, all action. I reach for this over most of my more expensive paring knives.
Thin blade (great for slicing!), great overall shape. Comes super sharp. Handle is plastic, but more than reasonable for the price and the molded shape of the handle is good for gripping.
It's a nice size for sitting down and cutting up a fresh fruit or vegetable to eat.
Amazon Customer : It lasts forever
Have used my old one for years. I needed a second Spyderco kitchen knife
The serrated edge remains sharp for decades. It can cut any veggies. Also great for bread and rolls.
MG : The perfect size
