Questions about Frabill Seine Net 4'X20' Poly Black Net, One Size
Q:
What is the spacing of the weights?
Answer: I am not sure because I added a bunch of weights to keep it tight to the bottom. Where I use it I was having trouble with the minnows getting out of the bottom.
Answer: You will need more weights
Answer: I can't recommend this product. The weights are not lead and are not heavy enough to maintain bottom contact. Bait simply swims out under the net. There's are other manufacturers offering a more effective product
Answer: They are around 18" apart
Answer: 18"
Q:
Does this net come with poles? If not, is there a recommended approach?
Answer: It does not come with the poles, I used 6 foot 1/2 PVC tube and placed caps on both ends. Also, the weights are not heavy enough to hold to the bottom. Additional weights will have to be placed to be sure bottom of seine net is on the ocean floor
Answer: It does not come with poles. I use 6' long pieces of bamboo because it's readily available where I live, light weight and strong. 6' saplings would work equally well.
Answer: It does not, I use broom sticks with a hole drilled in the bottom so the net does not slip up.
Answer: No no poles
Answer: It does not. It has tie strings at the corners which I used to fix two sturdy wooden sticks. They serve the purpose well and have been very durable. The net is a lot of fun and after several years is still intact.
Answer: It does not..i made my own out of small china berry trees
Answer: It does not..i made my own out of small china berry trees
Q:
Is this net really the listed size? or is it smaller as some have said?
Answer: I've used it for years and the 4x20 size seems accurate.
Answer: The size is correct. But I recommend getting a bigger one. Good for kids. Needs more weights.
Answer: I am not sure I didn't measure it, it didn't seem small.
Answer: Smaller.about 16 feet
Q:
Is this net legal in the State of Florida?
Q:
Can you attach two nets together to make it longer?
Answer: I made a frame out of 3/4 inch pvc and threaded twine through the net and around the pipe. Yes you can attach two nets together. I would weave twine through the ends. but you could also use tie wraps or velcro strips.
Answer: Yes.. I used zip ties and made my 3 seines into a trawl. Like a shrimp net.
Answer: I attached mine to a pipe on each end. You could stitch one together maybe?
Answer: Yes be easy to hook up as many nets as you would want to with some fishing line or kavlar kite string amazon also sells this stuff and it is super tough and stronger than most cords
Answer: You should be able to do that. I don't see why not.
Q:
Does the lead sink the floater under the water?
Answer: No
Q:
What is the size of the mesh? 1/4" ?
Answer: Slightly smaller than 0.25". The small mesh size makes it a bit slow to drag through the water, but it is effective.
Answer: Yes, approximately. Small enough to catch small minnows, helgramites, grass shrimp, etc
Q:
a cigarette, can it pass through these holes? That's how I know if these holes are small enough to catch the type of fish, I go for.
Answer: No. The mesh is smaller.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the mesh
Answer: Quarter inch squares very strong I used it to round up 25+ fish in a big Koi pond. Fish from two feet to two inches cleaned out the pond caught them all.
Answer: I was told it is .25
Product reviews of Frabill Seine Net 4'X20' Poly Black Net, One Size
diana n. : All
Very good
Robert Ballek : needs more weight on bottom
Net is made of light weight, tear resistant material, but it is a little stiff and does not easily conform to the contour along the seafloor and there are not enough lead weights along the bottom to hold it down securely when dragging along the bottom. I think I will try adding more weights,,,,
Robert Huber : So-so
Agree with the others. Needs more and better weights.
Francois : excellent

Fisherman : you will be disappointed
I have been using minnow seines for over 30 years. I purchased the Frabill seine and was pleased with the quality of materials used in its construction. My disappointment came when I used it. The bottom of the net is not properly weighted, causing it to rise off the bottom when being dragged. Of course this means that the minnows swim out under the net. After 6 passes through water dense with minnows I only managed to catch two of them when I should have caught thousands. If you actually want to catch minnows do NOT buy this product. When I complained about the net's performance to the sales clerk his response was to buy lead weights and sew them to the bottom. This net should be properly weighted at the factory, why should I pay for and install extra weights to make this product work? I returned the net for a refund and will continue to use my 20 year old net until I can find one to replace it that actually works.

Great product
Joe : Par for the course
Good net, a little stiff to begin with. Still is very hard to catch minnows in a creek, they are smart and try to go under! But works great for pond minnows.

Needs more weight to hold it to the bottom. I added a small chain to the bottom and it works great.
