How is this reel for bow fishing? Is there one better?

Answer: I would not us this on big fish..... the line would be too light ,,, 3 lb spotted bass can bend the pickup

can you fish salt water with this reel

Answer: Well, you can, but it's a little light to catch anything of size you might hook. If you are just fishing for mangrove snapper or sheepshead you will be ok, but, not for much anything larger. You'd probably be better off with a larger spinning reel. If you do decide to get this for salt water, like any other reel after fishing in salt water, wash it down with fresh water before putting it away.

Answer: It doesn't say for salt water but that is where I use it. I just wash it off when I get home and put a few drops of reel on in it.

Answer: internal drag needs to be readjusted.

Is the button on these reels made of plastic or metal? How about the drag dial?

Answer: Yes super long cast. Use a 7 ft rod with small eyelets. 10 lb mono. I could launch a crankbait about 120 ft. Way further then any spinning reel and as far as bait caster without blowing an elbow. Drag is great. Retrieval is a little slow but just turn faster.

I would like to put this on a 7' ultra light rod. Looking for longer casts, would this be a good combination?

Answer: I believe so. I have used this reel in combination with a light rod for many years.

Answer: It casts for days. Wouldn’t use it on bigger fish though. I have ripped the bearings on a couple big fish, but I still keep buying new ones. I keep mine on a 6’6 and use it for live bait and it flys!

Answer: To my knowledge it cannot be replaced.

Answer: Walter, I am not sure if they make a duel handle, it is a smooth reel though, I like it better than the Zebco z02 or zo3... Just if you are doing a lot of casting turn off the drag and flip it on when you need it, it's quiet and smoother without the drag on

The reel seems to be well made of durable materials. It casts and retrieves well. If it sat a little lower on the rod and did not make a clicking noise on the retrieve I would give it 5 stars. Daiwa is close to spincast perfection with this reel if they would only tweak the design a little more. If you don't mind a clicking sound from the anti-reverse pawl when retrieving a fish and the reel sitting high off the rod I would recommend this reel as a quality spincast reel.

This reel is the only closed face reel I have found that does a cross-lay of the line when winding. The spool oscillates when winding in the line. This cross-lay keeps it from tangling. I can cast a long way with this reel. Had them for years.

Have tried a number of spincast reels for my grandson but the drag was terrible on all but the Daiwa. He caught a 30" Northern Pike last weekend and the drag worked perfectly during the fight. Highly recommend it for beginning casters or those who just like the worry free simplicity of a spincaster.

Honest Review : Reel Was Defective

I purchased this reel for my wife who’s a beginner at fishing. The reel itself is pretty impressive. Very smooth. Return rate was as expected, maybe a bit quicker. So, why the low rating? The drag adjustment is broken. I can’t even tighten it enough to cinch a hook for storage. I’m returning and requesting a replacement. Once I test it I’ll update this review.
