Mine is easily a squarebill. I get pretty good luck with both the KVD 1.0 and the Rapala Crankin' Rap 3 but I throw the KVD more often so it takes first place.
"DB Craw" works pretty well for me in semi-clear to muddy water.
Cotton Cordell Big O in natural crawdad. I fish a lot of muddy, high water and where I fish is rocky so this really works.
Super Spook Jr or a Pointer 78
Lucky Craft Slender Pointer 97MR, Super Spook JR, or a KVD 1.0.
I will preface this by saying this is for river fish which rules out a lot of baits.
Bandit 100 has been my top producer over the years. The SK 1.0 along with the mini 3 and the newer SK shallow SB have done well for me too. The larger SK square bills really have disappointed me though, the smallies just don't like them or I am fishing the wrong. Others that do ok, scatter rap crank and the smallest size of the old Luhr Jenson Brush baby, I got a ton of them for like a buck a pop a long time ago.
Scatter rap deep in any of the craw colors has been an awesome producer for me. It seems to be a great all species bait too, have caught saugers, walleye, pike and musky on them.
Luck Craft Pointer SP 100
A popper that I dont know the brand . It wasnt very well made as the rear hook hanger eventually pulled out ,but it sure caught a lot of fish .
My fav hardbait for smallies... XD3 of the DT10. Either one plain out catches fish!
@scaleface youre probably thinking Rebel, their hook are literally the worst!

Its not a Rebel . I still have the lure and fish it with a dressed belly hook only .
Norman Little N #21TSBO, LC 78 Pointer Minnow Ghost Threadfin Shad & Nishiki (clown).
Tom
1/4oz revenge spinnerbait
Duo realis 110 jerkbait
the only hard bait that worked for me last week when i was lake fishing for smallies was the black 130 plopper
Normans DLN. You guess the color.
Wiggle wart or Mud Bug
KVD Square bill.1.5
Xcalibur Xcs100 silent in one of the craw colors. I don't remember which one. Got my PB smallie with it last spring.
I have a few, so to pick the number 1 is difficult. So, Ill pick the latest to the list. Rapala's X-Rap 10 in the olive green color
Summer time? Chart/white Stanley VibraMax double willow.
bomber long a size 14a, any color will do as long as it's got an orange belly…….lol
Storm original wiggle wart in any of the craw colors. I honestly seem to catch just as many on the new ones as I did on the pre rapala ones everybody goes crazy for. I rarely fish the pre rap ones except the ones I've already used a lot that are all scraped up from grinding rocks and catching fish. I save those for tournament days
A #5 jointed Rapala Shad Rap flavored in Smallmouth. I do very well with it at Great Herring, Plymouth, MA.
I've caught more smallmouth on a half ounce perch pattern Spro Aruku Shad than any other hard bait.
Bone Super Spook
Pointer 100
Slender Pointer 97
pointer 100 or 78DD American Shad
I've caught thousands on a Rapala F13 in orange. I know that might seem too big a bait for smallmouth, but I like the casting distance. However, I've also lost scores of the F13s to pike.
The only smallies I've caught on hard baits, were caught with a megabass 110 jr.
Easily Squarebills.
Rapala DT6 in Demon.
I fish a lot of small shallow rivers/streams. My go to this early fall has been the Duo Realis 48SR
Series 10 X-Rap in Hot Head pattern.
LC Pointer
LC RC 1.5, Super Spook Jr., and jerkbaits, I use a lot of different baits but the SPRO McStick 110 has produced more fish for me lately.
6th Sense lipless in Wild Lava Craw.
Summer: Lucky Craft Sammy 100 in American shad
Winter: Lucky Craft Pointer 78 in chart shad
Rapalas, Bandits and Bombers. 1, 2 and 3.
I only chase them in rivers but mine has to be a craw colored Shad Rap.
Whopper Plopper 90 and a good old shallow diving squarebill.
For The 8-12 ft zone the Spro "Mike McClelland" RkCrawler 55 Crankbait has been very good -
Hammered a mess of smallies with one today ~ love the Phantom Brown & the Red Crawfish colors
A-Jay
Bomber long A
Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad
Cheap 75 cent popper from Walmart. I believe it's made by crème lures. Change out the hooks and it works just as well as the 6 dollar tiny popper by Rebel
