October Mtb's Shipping Today! 2024

fishing user avatarMysteryTackleBox reply :

Hey BR,

We shipped out the October boxes today and we put in a little something fun for Halloween. Be sure to post your pics here! Also, we wanted to share an email we sent out to our subscribers at the beginning of last month to let you guys know about some things we are working on:

As the leading subscription service in the fishing industry, we are always looking for new ways to improve our service. We value all customer feedback (good or bad) and use it to make our company better. Looking at feedback over the past few months, we are actively working to improve on a few areas:

Soft plastic packs

The #1 reason people subscribe to Mystery Tackle Box is to discover new products. One of the best ways to make sure our subscribers get the greatest variety in their box is feature 2-3 sample packs of soft baits instead of just one single full pack. Over 90% of our subscribers have told us they agree. However, many have asked for us to increase the number of baits in the packs.

Moving forward, we are making a strong effort to include more than just 3 baits in the sample packs. We have already started to work with our manufacturers on this change. Many subscribers have started to receive more baits in their sample packs starting this month (September) and by next month (October) almost all packs should have at least 4 baits (on occasion, larger plastics or very premium plastics may still be 3-packs).

Shipping times

We know that waiting for your box can be agonizing! And we understand that our shipping times have been slower than they should be. As we have experienced immense growth over the past few months, this has caused some logistics issues that have slowed our shipping times.

We are working with our shipping provider to streamline the shipping process to make sure boxes ship on time and arrive to you as fast as they can. We hope to implement these changes over the next few months and this will result in faster shipping times.

Product selection

We have always focused on featuring quality products from both big and small companies. We evaluate every product before it goes in the box and we have turned down dozens of products that have not met our strict standards. Over the past few months we have made it a point to seek out more new products and more new brands. We’re excited to announce that we have finalized many exclusive partnerships with new brands and new products that will allow our subscriber to be the first in the subscription tackle industry to receive these products. There is a lot of great stuff to look forward to in the next 12 months!

We look forward to continuing to improve on our service and bring you the best experience possible. If you have not yet subscribed we invite you to read some customer reviews:  https://www.trustpilot.com/review/mysterytacklebox.com

Thank you for your support,

Ross, Jeremy, & Jason,

Mystery Tackle Box Founders

Wow, mine usually takes five business days. I should get it tomorrow. Which is 5 business days.

I know how you feel! Great box though, gave me some stuff I have never used.

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

Received it yesterday, great box. Got some great looking plastics I'm gonna use, and that line through s swim bait will be put into action tomorrow. The deep diving Minnow hard bait is fancy looking and I like it, but it's a 10 to 20 ft diver.... I bank fish, but will be using it when I get my boat next year. MTB hasn't let me down since I joined. THANK!

fishing user avatarPersicoTrotaVA reply :

Awesome box!  Love the jig!  I cannot wait to get it wet!  Great color!  The other baits I am not too excited about but still, great baits.  Once again I got a deep diving crank(Matzuo Kinchou Minnow) and I mostly fish shallow lakes .  Still love it.  Good to keep for a trip to a deeper body of water I guess.  I want try out the swimbait(Optimum Baits 4' Baby Line Thru) before it gets too cold.  The plastics will get thrown in my MTB Plastics box and one day I will get to them.

Pretty sure my Matzuo also said 'deep' on the package, but it won't go below about 4 feet. (I was throwing with braid, however -- I'll probably get another foot or two with hybrid.)

The line-thru looks awesome and has fantastic action, even on slack line fall.  HOWEVER - after about an hour with it, I'm done.  The hooks foul with the line and/or the body of the bait on nearly 50% of the casts.  Short of gently dropping it in the water and trolling it, I find it MUCH more frustrating than useful.

The hyper worm has great action, but I got a very plain gray color and I couldn't muster enough confidence to stick with it for more than a few minutes at a time.

The beavers look pretty much like all the other beavers out there and I didn't throw more than a few minutes my last time out.  If it kills 'em, I'll come back and update.

Are you tucking one of the hook points into the bottom of the bait? I actually fished this lure a bit in a tournament we had on Sunday and didn't have any issues with the line catching the hook. I was just barely tucking the hook point into the bottom of the bait. If you haven't tried that, give it a shot.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

Hadn't thought of that....maybe it's coming back out for another shot.

BTW - honestly.....did you catch anything with it?

Nope. But it was a drop-shot bite all day. All of our fish came on the BioSpawn PlasmaTail and KVD Dream Shot. We had a small tournament on Lake Geneva, WI and the water clarity was about 12 ft. Air temp was 35 degrees at launch. It was a rough day for all! We had 14 boats, about half didn't catch fish and no one caught a limit. The winning bag was 12.5lb and my boat had 2nd with 7.5lbs on 4 fish. Just one of those days!

I threw the Optimum for about 15 minutes but the conditions just were not right. BUT it does have a really nice action and tipping the hook into the bait should definitely solve the line issue.

You can see what the action looks like here:

Let us know if that helps!

fishing user avatarFelixone reply :

I too tried the Optimum this past weekend.  The coloration and size was pretty close to the forage in a lake I just started fishing.  I had high hopes, but I ran into the same issues with the hook getting caught on the line or the bait itself.  I will have to try your suggestion to tip the hook into the bait.  Another issue I seemed to have was it kept wanting to surface if I reeled even just the slightest bit fast.  This caused some added frustration when combined with the fouling hook as it was already forcing me to fish slower than I wanted only to find out the whole retrieve was wasted on a tangled up bait.  Of course after a few attempts I was getting better at recognizing the feel of the bait which made it easier to determine if the bait was tangled up while I was retrieving it.  It will be a few weeks before I get back to that lake, but I will have to try again with these suggestions.

I love the BLT's, been fishing with them for a few years now and they can't be beat for the price. I've had zero issues with tangling and don't do anything special to avoid it so not sure what to suggest there. All I do is reel them slow and try not to lose my rod when the fish choke them down :)

Thanks for the advice. I went out for couple hours this afternoon and tried it with a hook point tucked in. Second cast was slammed by a four pounder. Then promptly broke it off on another. I'm off to get some more!

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

I used it the other day, and rigged it correctly. It tends to swim high. Is it a type of wakebait?  I also thought it would have some type of waddle because of the head size and shape. I used it on my crankbait rod with a 5:4 reel, or should I use a different set up?

A great way to use that line though is with a bait keeper spring threaded into the body right at the exit part of where the line goes through.

You just open the looped end a bit with some pliers and slide the hook into it.

I noticed it did not run very deep for me at first but I made some adjustments to my retrieve to get it the depth I wanted it. The way I got it down was just to count down 5-10 seconds before I start reeling (depending on desired depth), kept my rod tip down, and slow-rolled it on a straight retrieve. That helped keep it in the 3-4 ft. range. I was using 12lb fluoro on a 6:4:1 reel so on a slower reel the same tips should work, but let us know. I was fishing it in very clear water that ranged from 6-12 ft so I wasn't as concerned about getting it super deep.

Ok, Ill try that. I usually have max 3 feet of vis. The bait color is right though.

fishing user avatarGodspeed409 reply :

My optimum swimbait felt like it was covered in glue and smelled terrible. My least favorite bait from MTB thus far.  :(

Really nice Jig and plastics though.

This was my first box. Not impressed.
