I just bought an Old Town Trip 10 Angler Deluxe with paddle from a local pawn shop for $150.
Congratulations, I started last year and it has changed my life for the better.
WOW good deal! congrats and good luck with it
NICE!
very cool! you'll enjoy it!
Congrats! Changed my life to get on a yak! I am the healthiest I have been in part because of kayak fishing.
Thanks for all the comments..
Im really excited about taking it out.
I live in Illinois, does anyone know off hand what the safety regulations are on a kayak? Same as motorized boat? ie..life jacket, whitstle/horn, etc...
Welcome to the "club"
Booyah guy
Congrats!
$150, nice! You might want to start looking for some soft foam stadium seat pads if the seat that came with it does not feel to comfortable.
I also picked up a yak yesterday. I got a malibu pro explorer. Looking forward to getting out in it this weekend
Are you sure you didn't steal that yak? Congrats on your new kayak. Using stealth you'll be able to paddle right up on those bass and they won't know you're there. Capt Ken Daubert, a kayak angler from Florida, got me into kayak fishing in 2009. Sold my bass boat last year because I had stopped using it and it was only collecting dust in the garage. Kayak fishing has changed my life as well...it's almost spiritual. Enjoy!
Congratulations. I'm finishing my 1st kayak season and you'll love it. With the ability to fish places where pedestrians & boats can't go is A+++, kayak fishing opens a whole new world.
One word of caution: outfitting your kayak is addicting!
Well, I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't get to take my kayak out for the first time this weekend.
I live In Southern Illinois and we had a little cold front come through Friday along with some thunderstorms.
Early Saturday morning was going to be my only window to take it out and it was in the mid to upper 30's and Sprinkling. Given the fact that this would be my first time in a kayak and I would have also been by myself, I thought that it would be best to wait until I either have better conditions or a little more experience.
No other money you will ever spend will ever have such a giant effect on your fishing. For $150 literally every spot in every lake and pond near you just became your oyster!
I don't care who you are, that is money well spent right there!!
Congrats! Welcome to the addiction!

Ugh, I just hate that the weather completely ignores my fishing plans. We had a cold front come through Saturday night. It was a little warmer here in that it was in the mid 40's when I got up. I stalled around a few hours before heading out, but nothing was biting. At least that included insects.
I also would like to second that comment about stealth. A couple weeks ago I was fishing in a small lake. My typical MO is to paddle towards the area I want to fish. As I get close I stop paddling and coast into the area. Well apparently I did a pretty good job. As I was coasting in I could see a big old catfish swimming right towards me. He was probably close to 3' and he didn't even notice until he was maybe 5 feet from the bow. As I said this is a relatively small and shallow lake. I didn't even realize they had catfish that big in there. It was very cool to see.
Here to hoping you can make it out this weekend and catch all the fish!
Congratulations, I spent more time in my kayak this year than my deep V aluminum. If you are in the St. Louis area try West Lake in Bowling Green. No boat ramp so it gets very little pressure. http://www.geospy.org/object/GS26Z
how far away is west lake from st louis
Spring will get here slowly but surely, good call on waiting for safer conditions for the maiden voyage. Congrats on joining the club!

Regardless of the law, it's always good policy to wear a pfd, and to carry other safety related items whenever you are on the water, no matter how small the pond may be.
They not only may save your life, but in the unlikely circumstance that something catastrophic happens, a pfd will keep your body afloat.
There are few things more traumatic for family and friends, than to have a loved one disappear below the surface of the water and for rescue/recovery teams have to drag the bottom searching for the body.
My experience too. I started with an Ascend 128T, then a FeelFree Lure 11.5 and was off to the races. Kayak fishing opened up a whole new world. There are car-top only waters near me that aren't heavily fished. On 10/3/2014 at 9:01 PM, Bluegiller said:Congratulations, I started last year and it has changed my life for the better.
Welcome to the kayak fishing fleet. Be warned, however, bait monkey brings his friends along when it comes to accessories for it!
Sweet!
What a great deal!
Be careful out there and enjoy the ride.
Welcome to the addiction. I just started, and now I need ALL OF THE UPGRADES!!! LOL
I'm looking to join the club soon. Saving for a Ride 115x

Same here hopefully. I just sold my kayak tonight. Heck I never even put it in the water after buying it a few months ago. I just realized it wasn't what I really wanted and it wasn't right for me.
It's awesome. I also am from Southern Illinois and paddle a Wilderness Systems Ride 115. It is just flat fun chasin them in a kayak but opens a lot of doors to a lot of waters that are inaccessible with anything else.

Good for you, You're going to have a great time. I fish out of a canoe. It would be nice if there was a fishing club around here for guys with them.
I could start one but I'm more interested in fishing. Congrats!
I would venture to guess that is $150 of the best money you will ever spend. I spent a little under $500 for my yak and paddle and consider it one of the absolute best "investments" I have ever made! I fish boats, tubes and yaks and there are times when that is the absolute best option for a day on the water.

A tough decision but a good decision!
1. find a PFD that you feel comfortable wearing all the time
2. be careful in current (some of my early "near disasters" involved a kayak, current and an anchor)
3. remember "The Rule of 120" (if the combined water and air temperatures are under 120, you need to be wearing a wet suit or dry suit when kayaking)
Have fun, welcome to the club!
