Lemon : Be Prepared for Major Assembly
This is heavy duty grill that when delivered weighed A LOT, so be warned if you have lots of steps to your place. The grill was well packaged and arrived intact and undamaged. But be prepared for a fair amount of set-up and assembly time and have a helper if you can; this is not an out-of-the-box product. You should also be prepared to have access to an electrical outlet for this grill. I would rank the fit and finish of the grill "good", but not great. Some sharp edges, the electrical work is not well thought out to be consumer friendly.
Once up and running it is a great grill with lots of grill space. We’re looking forward to a summer of trying our hand at some smoker recipes.

I had heard of pellet smokers, but always thought they were a gimmick. But I was intrigued enough that I got this unit for review. In short, I am in love!
First thing, the unit comes disassembled. The instructions state that it takes two people to assemble - believe them! I put it together by myself, but it took an entire day; and I still needed help tightening up the last fasteners. Do yourself a favor and start with help - it will go much easier. Also, pay attention to the (minimal) electrical connections that have to be made or verified. When I first powered the unit on, it stayed dark. I had to disassemble the pellet hopper to connect a couple of wires I missed. Far less hassle to check while it’s still apart.
Once I got the smoker together and working, the manufacturer recommends a “burn-out” cycle to clear out any oil used to prevent parts from rusting. You really want to do this - the protective oil is nasty smelling until it all burns off. You set it to the highest temperature and let it run for at least 45 minutes. I was initially concerned when this burnout consumed over half the pellets in the hopper, but that is just because it has to burn a lot of pellets to maintain the high heat. When you get down to typical smoking temperatures, the pellet consumption drops dramatically.
So far, we have smoked 3 tri-tips and 2 racks of spareribs; and all have tasted great. For those used to grilling, the outside appearance of the meat can be deceiving. The first time I checked, the meat just looked like it had been left out in the sun - no sizzle, no dark colors. I thought for sure I had done something wrong, but the internal temperature probes (2 are supplied) indicated that the internal temperature was rising as expected; and when done the meat was perfectly cooked through. So you’ll have to adjust your preconceptions by the way things look on the outside.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this smoker. The large pellet capacity means you can run it all day without a lot of attention, and the electric burner means you can go from off to smoking with just the turn of a switch.
I am now exploring getting into sausage making, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out on this wonderful smoker.
