When first making a seal to create a bag, can I control how close to the edge it can be? Or do I have to waste about 1½ inch of material to seal?
Answer: Yes, you could control the edge when on the first seal. When on the first seal, the bag don't need to vacuum, so you just make the bag over the sealing ring (the gasket ring) and it will create a closer seal on the edge.
Answer: You can get it pretty close to edge. Minimal waste.

Note: Revised rating upward after being contacted by seller with information on how to order more 13" rolls. Didn't give 5 stars as believe supplies shouldn't be this difficult to obtain, and there should be a link provided for ordering wider rolls. Also should provide a link for directly contacting seller. That said, is a good solid machine.
