Matt Morgan : Decent Reel with Zero Documentation

I am not especially skilled with baitcasting reels though I do use them on occasion. I hadn’t heard of this brand before and knew little about it; so far it is proving to be a reasonably decent reel though a complete lack of documentation would make figuring this reel out a complete nightmare without prior understanding of this type of reel.

There are no instructions with this reel, at all. So, do not expect to find much help in the box.

The basic operation is smooth and simple. Push the button, cast and start reeling. Of course, be careful to not let it spool too quickly or it will backlash just like any other baitcasting reel. The retrieve is smooth and the oscillator does a good job of spooling evenly.

Drag is set via a star wheel next to the handle, as expected. It took a bit of fiddling to get it set the way I want it and it is set now to work properly. Line feed speed during casting and retrieve resistance are set via the tension adjustment knob, also close the handle. The magnetic brake system is set via a dial on the opposite side, and it has setting numbered 0-9.

The main issue with this reel is the complete lack of documentation. As I use primarily spinning reels instead of baitcasters, I had to refamiliarize myself with how these reels work. A user’s manual (even one in poor English) would have helped a lot with that, and it could make learning to use this type of reel a lot easier for the beginner.

I am a novice fisherman but this fishing reels doesn't feel right. It's light I feel like I am going to break this reels in half. not sure how durable its going to be.

I've been fishing for 30 years but not competitively, I tend to use equipment older than I am, and it works great. So when I saw this brand I thought maybe it was a fancy new company. Nope, it's just a generic, I think the chinese are trying to break into fishing gear.

Several issues with this. First I thought I was ordering right-handed and it's actually left-handed, so be careful when order. Works out great for me personally, but be aware this is not reversible.

Next, there are no instructions and no fishing line. I figured it out, but it's a little unusual so took a while.

Also, there are some claims about the material - glass fiber and graphite. To me it all feels plastic. However, just recently I've been using ABS filament for my 3D printer that is infused with carbon fiber, which allegedly adds durability and strength. I suspect they're using something like that.

Finally I'm having issues with the drag. Since there's no troubleshooting I don't know what to say.

So it's sleek, smooth, fast, quiet...lots to like about it. But in the end, there are so many questions about longevity, warranty, and quality of a generic. I'd rather invest in my time and energy in a name brand.

Jam : Great Baitcasting Reel...not a beginner reel.

This YOESEA Baitcasting Fishing Reel is a fine reel. If you know you know...if you don’t...then don’t buy this. This isn’t a starter reel. The reel was very easy to install. The drag absolutely works, like every other baitcaster it adjusts off the star wheel. Counterclockwise to tighten the drag and clockwise to loosen. Has an adjustable magnet to avoid bird nests. Lower power will turn the magnetic off, higher power will slow the reel faster. You have to adjust it based on the weight of the lure that you are throwing. The body is graphite and the shell is plastic. The finishings are nice. It’s a good value for an 18 BB Bearing reel.

It's poorly made... poor construction of parts... it's just cheap crap .

You're better off spending a bit more to get a well known brand.

This doesn't even work that well when you do get it to cast. It catches... it's not smooth by any means.

Great for first time fishermen or kids. Works well and I can cast well with it. It does reel back in good. The inner workings of the reel seem to work well. The drag seems to work ok but not as good as other reels I have tried. There are no directions on how to set the reel up.
