OneCent : Smooth bearings and spool. Casts well, but quality control lacking a bit.

This Yoesea bait casting reel is a decent starting reel for someone that wants to learn how to use a bait caster. The spool and gears are smooth, and it casts pretty well. The star drag is easy to set, but not as smooth as some of the better known brands around this price range. There are no instructions included, just an exploded view of the reel components and features printed on the box. Quality control seems to be lacking a bit as there are some sharp edges on the plastic covers and housing. There are definitely better options around this price range, but this is decent enough for a beginner. I’ll probably keep this in the car as a backup for those unexpected times when you find a fishing spot.

F. Todd : Plastic. But okay.

It feels pretty cheap in hand. Mostly plastic, some of the gaps aren't aligned, mine arrived with a long hair stuck in the plastic gap (YAY). No instructions. Plus side is the action is super smooth on this. It isn't terrible but making proper spool tension and brake adjustments is a bit of a chore and not as dialed in as more expensive ones... If you're looking for a beater or this is at the top of your price range, this ain't bad...But I'd recommend paying a bit more for something better.

The baitcaster we got is left handed. It’s basically a cheaper baitcaster with more plastic parts than I’d like. My son who has a few very nice baitcasters said this one is average. The drag does work and it does reel in and do what you’d expect it to do. But you can feel it’s not a good strong reel.

Matt Morgan : Decent Reel with Zero Documentation

I am not especially skilled with baitcasting reels though I do use them on occasion. I hadn’t heard of this brand before and knew little about it; so far it is proving to be a reasonably decent reel though a complete lack of documentation would make figuring this reel out a complete nightmare without prior understanding of this type of reel.

There are no instructions with this reel, at all. So, do not expect to find much help in the box.

The basic operation is smooth and simple. Push the button, cast and start reeling. Of course, be careful to not let it spool too quickly or it will backlash just like any other baitcasting reel. The retrieve is smooth and the oscillator does a good job of spooling evenly.

Drag is set via a star wheel next to the handle, as expected. It took a bit of fiddling to get it set the way I want it and it is set now to work properly. Line feed speed during casting and retrieve resistance are set via the tension adjustment knob, also close the handle. The magnetic brake system is set via a dial on the opposite side, and it has setting numbered 0-9.

The main issue with this reel is the complete lack of documentation. As I use primarily spinning reels instead of baitcasters, I had to refamiliarize myself with how these reels work. A user’s manual (even one in poor English) would have helped a lot with that, and it could make learning to use this type of reel a lot easier for the beginner.

Dee : Not Heavy-Duty, But Functional

We ordered this not expecting much for the price and got what I expected. I was planning on putting it on my grandson’s pole to maybe make it a bit easier for him than his current spinning reel. I wish there were instructions with it, but it is easy enough to find instructional videos online. It not really a heavy-duty reel, but I did not expect it to be. We are going out this weekend to give it a try, and after practicing with it a bit in the back yard it should work out ok for him and hopefully cut down on the tangles.

j_who250 : Drag system doesn't work on any of the 10 settings

Keep shopping, don't buy this one. It's not nearly worth the current list price of $33. Here's why:

Although there's some english on the box (mostly just a parts list), there's NO English instructions for this. The instructions are all in another language. Usually there's at least a page of English with instructions like that... nope, nada here. No English. I was able to still figure it out. And I'm not impressed.

The drag system does not work at all. The reel says it has ten settings but the drag system does not function under any of those ten settings.

There's no graphite case on the reel, as the box says there is. It's just a plastic case on the reel.

On the good side, it operates smoothly. It casts easily and it has a nice feel when you're reeling in the line but even the good parts have a negative side because it has a tendency to let too much line out when you're casting. You have to be really careful and keep your finger on the line to keep it from feeding too much line out.

For $33, the current list price, this is NOT worth it. I'd give it 4 stars for that price, if the drag system worked.

DS : Arrived broken. Basic.

Hubby did not see that its cracked after he spooled it up. the front silver plate was cracked. He noticed that something was off with the reel right away but took a second to see the crack. Gear ration seemed off - was a bit on a slower side, but could be wrong - however it could have been due to a crack or something. Handle was not bad and break seems ok, too bad that can not be used though. Looked ok too. it arrived without any user manual or care instructions (expected things like how to care for it, recommendation on what to oil), but included parts diagram on a box, so keep the box. Also felt heavier than similar name brand reels.

Do not recommend as it arrived cracked, though crack was not noticed until after spooling it - makes me question QA process.
