This Yoesea bait casting reel is a decent starting reel for someone that wants to learn how to use a bait caster. The spool and gears are smooth, and it casts pretty well. The star drag is easy to set, but not as smooth as some of the better known brands around this price range. There are no instructions included, just an exploded view of the reel components and features printed on the box. Quality control seems to be lacking a bit as there are some sharp edges on the plastic covers and housing. There are definitely better options around this price range, but this is decent enough for a beginner. I’ll probably keep this in the car as a backup for those unexpected times when you find a fishing spot.

F. Todd : Plastic. But okay.

It feels pretty cheap in hand. Mostly plastic, some of the gaps aren't aligned, mine arrived with a long hair stuck in the plastic gap (YAY). No instructions. Plus side is the action is super smooth on this. It isn't terrible but making proper spool tension and brake adjustments is a bit of a chore and not as dialed in as more expensive ones... If you're looking for a beater or this is at the top of your price range, this ain't bad...But I'd recommend paying a bit more for something better.

Dee : Not Heavy-Duty, But Functional

We ordered this not expecting much for the price and got what I expected. I was planning on putting it on my grandson’s pole to maybe make it a bit easier for him than his current spinning reel. I wish there were instructions with it, but it is easy enough to find instructional videos online. It not really a heavy-duty reel, but I did not expect it to be. We are going out this weekend to give it a try, and after practicing with it a bit in the back yard it should work out ok for him and hopefully cut down on the tangles.

DS : Arrived broken. Basic.

Hubby did not see that its cracked after he spooled it up. the front silver plate was cracked. He noticed that something was off with the reel right away but took a second to see the crack. Gear ration seemed off - was a bit on a slower side, but could be wrong - however it could have been due to a crack or something. Handle was not bad and break seems ok, too bad that can not be used though. Looked ok too. it arrived without any user manual or care instructions (expected things like how to care for it, recommendation on what to oil), but included parts diagram on a box, so keep the box. Also felt heavier than similar name brand reels.

Do not recommend as it arrived cracked, though crack was not noticed until after spooling it - makes me question QA process.

I'm a life-long spin fisher so this was my first foray into using a baitcaster.
As far as I can tell, it does the job well enough and I have no complaints.
Action is smooth and construction seems to be good for the price point.
If you are looking for a cheap entry into baitcasting, this is not a bad choice.

I've been fishing for 30 years but not competitively, I tend to use equipment older than I am, and it works great. So when I saw this brand I thought maybe it was a fancy new company. Nope, it's just a generic, I think the chinese are trying to break into fishing gear.

Several issues with this. First I thought I was ordering right-handed and it's actually left-handed, so be careful when order. Works out great for me personally, but be aware this is not reversible.

Next, there are no instructions and no fishing line. I figured it out, but it's a little unusual so took a while.

Also, there are some claims about the material - glass fiber and graphite. To me it all feels plastic. However, just recently I've been using ABS filament for my 3D printer that is infused with carbon fiber, which allegedly adds durability and strength. I suspect they're using something like that.

Finally I'm having issues with the drag. Since there's no troubleshooting I don't know what to say.

So it's sleek, smooth, fast, quiet...lots to like about it. But in the end, there are so many questions about longevity, warranty, and quality of a generic. I'd rather invest in my time and energy in a name brand.

DLH : Mostly plastic. Poor build quality

The YOESEA Baitcasting Fishing Reel is a mostly plastic reel with a poor build quality I can only describe as "Toy Quality". The star drag and magnetic brake seem to very little. The reel comes without any docmentation. If you've never used a baticasting reel you're on your own. This is not a reel I'll ever fish with. The only reason I'll give it 2 Stars instead of 1 is that I'm gonna let my young nephew play and learn with it.
