Questions about Colzer Food Dehydrator 12 Stainless Steel Trays, Food Dryer for Fruit, Meat, Beef, Jerky, Herbs, with Adjustable Timer and Temperature Control
Q:
Does this have a fan in it?
Answer: There is a fan inside the dehydrator, in the innermost part of the case. It circulates hot air with a heating power of 500W to ensure that you dry food evenly from all angles.
Q:
How long does the food last?
Answer: The only thing I have processed with my dehydrator is apple slices. I did these back in September/October of 2020 and they are still good almost a year later. I would imagine it depends how the food is stored.
Q:
Is there an on/off button?
Answer: Yes there is a toggle switch on the back that powers the unit off and on before using the digital controls to set temp and time.
Answer: In fact, there are two of them. One on the back, top, left and one on the top, front, left control panel.
Answer: Yes, at the top where the controls are
Answer: Yes there is.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Do they make replacement trays?
Q:
What type of warranty does the colzer food dehydrator machine 8 stainless steel trays adjustable thermostat digital food dehydrator come with?
Answer: Within one year from the date of purchase, if the product has any quality problems, you can contact us at any time to solve the problem for you.
Q:
How do you change temperature display to Fahrenheit?
Answer: You don’t. There is a conversion table printed on the top right corner. There is no other way to convert the actual “reading” that is displayed. It does help to obtain a recipe book that lists temps for lots of fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats etc. Then use that recommended temperature setting and look at the table on the dehydrator.
Answer: There are conversions between Celsius and Fahrenheit on the LED screen.
Q:
how exactly can the temperature be set, after setting the temperature, how much inside the chamber changes +/-%
Answer: They say to use a oven thermometer every time on the inside while drying to be safe.
Q:
It says small grid size. Using units of measure and not adjectives, how small is it?
Answer: This is grid on trays....1centimeter. I bought the heat sheets to go on mine. I found on some things like tomatoes that they stuck. Also if you dry herbs you need these. The sheets are like the ones seamstress use for ironing sticky appliques.
Q:
Can I dehydrate juiced wheatgrass with this? What trays would I use for liquids and are they bpa free?
Answer: Obviously the seller did not understand your question. You want to basically dehydrate a puree or wheatgrass that has been juiced with a juicing machine and turned to a liquid, right? The best I can tell you would to be to use the fruit roll trays. As they are made for pureed fruit. The dehydrated pureed fruit, is basically fruit roll ups, once it's been through the dehydrating process. If this doesn't come with fruit roll trays, you can buy them separately.
Answer: This machine is 100% BPA Free. In fact, you don’t need a tray, because the liquid will evaporate when drying. You only need to wipe the bottom after drying to clean it easily!
Q:
How do i get with the seller?
Answer: Look seller up on line.
Q:
Can you use for dry cat food to store for emergencies?
Answer: Not sure but have heard you can dehydrate cooked hamburger meat. Meats and I imagine cat food or dog food has high fat content do stored dry the time you can store would not be that long.
Answer: Dry cat food is dry already. Put it in a 5gal bucket maybe with an oxygen absorber that should keep indefinitely.
Answer: Yes, you can! It can make cat snacks and other pet snacks, which is very healthy and convenient!
Q:
Mine came with plastic mesh sheets the same size as the shelves. What are they for?
Answer: Non-stick silicone mesh mats of the same size as the shelf, they are used to hold smaller foods, such as herbs.
Answer: The plastic mesh sheet helps keep small items from sticking to the wire shelf. I have been dehydrating apple slices this fall and these sheets make it much easier to turn the pieces half-way through the drying process.
Answer: Mine didn't have them but they could be silicone nonstick sheets for sticky and small pieces. We had to order ours separately. Food really sticks to metal mesh shelves without the sheets.
Answer: Lay them on trays and your food won’t stick ????????♀️ Mine only came with 4 not enough for all trays
Answer: In the recipe book you can use them to make fruit leather.
Q:
How many watts is the motor?
Answer: The motor is 500W.
Q:
Are these the correct measurements? It looks much more than 10.6 inches*
Answer: The measured value is correct. Its length, width and height are: 27*32.5*38.5cm, which is 10.6*12.8*15.2 inches.
Answer: i am not near my dehydrator at the moment, but i would say that 10.6 inches is pretty close to the width of the dehydrator. It is not a large appliance but since it has six trays it holds quite a bit of food. I have been very happy with this purchase!
Answer: I dont have it pulled out right now nor can I seem to find my tape measure but he measurements do seem to be right though.
Q:
Is this made in America?
Answer: No, it made in China.
Q:
Is there a way to use a hook on the inside top to hang a piece of meat on a skewer?
Answer: You can remove the 11 trays below (because they are adjustable) and take a hook to hook a piece of meat.
Answer: No. We got silicone mats and meat could be laid on metal trays, but I'd advise you to get the mats.
Answer: No. Sounds like you would want a rotisserie oven. There are air fryers that do have a rotisserie and dehydrate function. This is just to dehydrate.
Answer: Unfortunately no. The top is completely smooth
Q:
Does the unit have a light? There was a bulb in the package but I don’t see where it goes.
Answer: As long as you press the black button on the back of the dryer, it will light up. The light has been installed in the food dryer and is fixed.
Answer: Yes it has a light bulb
Q:
can you put the tray's in the dishwasher?
Answer: Of course you can, it is dishwasher safe.
Answer: Yes. They are supposed to be stainless steel. And the longer dimension is just 10”.
Answer: I don't see why not. They are stainless steel
Q:
The stainless steel tray of the product introduction, is its grid small enough to hold small foods, such as tea leaves or small tomatoes?
Answer: Thank you for your attention. For the upgraded version of this tray, we specially designed a denser grid to better accommodate small foods.
Q:
Does it really go up to 194 degrees Fahrenheit?
Answer: Yeah sure, its lowest temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit and the highest temperature is 194 degrees Fahrenheit.
Q:
Does it come with small mesh sheets for drying spouted wheat berries?
Answer: The metal sheets may not be a small enough mesh that it would hold the wheat berries. Honestly don't really know. Sorry.
Answer: YES, 4 OF THEM
Answer: No
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
I heard that the sound of this dehydrator is very loud and can be heard in the living room. Is it true?
Answer: No not true. Ours is the same frequency and loudness as the extractor fan over our oven at medium speed.
Answer: The operating noise of model ST-04T is not higher than 45 decibels.
Answer: I don't think it will be very noisy. The one I bought is very quiet. I don't understand these comments.
Q:
Where is this product made?
Answer: China.
Q:
Is this approved for making raw food ?
Answer: Think that almost all of them tell you to be safe over treat your meat so that the meat reaches like beef 160 degrees then place it in the dryer. I have done it and I have not. But for peace of mind. Do it. Also this will not be jerky like from the store package stuff. You must keep it in the fridge or it will grow mold on it. Normally not a problem it doesn’t last that long. But I wish I could say it is good for long time storage but I can’t. I am new at this so if I am missing something about long time storage please someone tell me what it is
Q:
Why is there not drip tray ,???it ruin everything under it , table, chair, and rug!!
Answer: The things that I dry and might drip I put on either parchment paper and then throw away or I use my Teflon sheets to put stuff on. It takes long to dry and its best to turn items over half way through. I hate cleaning up a mess that it could make so I rather tend to what I am drying. Hope this helps
Answer: You use it the wrong way. For example, just as you don't put soaking web clothes in your dryer because it waste gas and electricity and gas to dry the clothes up, and you don't put soaking wet meat or food in the dehydrator. Instead, you should try to let the meat or food hang dried a little bit, then you put them in the dehydrator; this way you save time and electricity. Just in case there still some drip, you can put some foil paper on the bottle to catch the drip.
Answer: All of the trays are enclosed in the unit. I have used mine numerous times and nothing ever "drips" onto my countertop.
Q:
Mine only has 20c is this the lowest temperature ?
Answer: Yes, the temperature range is from 20 ℃ to 90 ℃.
Answer: When pushing the temperature button to lower the temperature, the lowest it would go on my unit is 19 C.
Q:
Where are the intake and exhaust vents on this machine?
Answer: The back and sides of the machine are designed with small holes to help exhaust and intake, and the fan drives the circulation of hot air to achieve the effect of drying food.
Q:
Is the mesh on the trays stainless steel?
Answer: Yes, all trays are made of stainless steel, including the mesh.
Q:
how many pounds capacity does it have
Answer: Depends on what you are dehydrating, the maximum capacity of a single trays is 4 pounds.
Q:
How do I keep Food from sticking to the metal trays? We have tried bananas twice and they have stuck both times. I’m ready to return it
Answer: You can use food-grade non-stick silicone pads with our food dryer. That will not make any food stick to the tray. If you have any questions, please contact our shop after sales, thank you very much.
Answer: I use the silicone mesh sheets on top of the metal trays for anything sticky or wet. So far, i have not done bananas, but have dehydrated cherries and aronia berries, and cooked chicken liver. And i have processed (not dehydrated) soybean to ferment into natto. Works well on all.
Answer: For fruit and other sticky stuff you have to use the silicone sheets. Don't return it because of user error.
Answer: Use the plastic grids that you can buy separately to help this. That will occur no matter which dehydrator you use.
Answer: I use cooking spray
Answer: Make them thicker & use proper temp
Q:
What are the dimensions of each tray?
Answer: Each tray of the dehydrator are 250*250mm.
Q:
I just got mine and I see it only sets to Celsius, is that right? Can’t be...
Answer: Yes, but there are conversions between Celsius and Fahrenheit on our LED screen.
Q:
What is the distance (height) between the mesh trays when all 8 trays are loaded?
Answer: There is 1.18 inches of clearance between the trays when they are placed in the dehydrator.
Q:
Is there plastic on the inside of the glass door?
Answer: No plastic, just one piece of glass on the door. All metal and glass, no plastic in the whole appliance.
Answer: The door is glass not plastic
Answer: No there isn’t plastic on the inside of the glass door.
Answer: No plastic I can see
Q:
Are the mesh floppy mats that come with it silicone or plastic?

When making jerky, do I need to rotate the trays to make them dry more evenly?

Q:
Do you have to use the timer or can it be set to run until you manually turn it off?
Answer: This dehydrator comes with a timer, it will count down after the time is set, and it will automatically turn off after the time is over.

petra rodriguez : Awesome
It works great
terry slickers : need bigger unit for fruit
this unit works, but doing fruit it is not big enuf. You can ionly do 4-6 apples at a time at 3mm so next time I get a bigger one
Indywoman : Very quick and quiet
Very quick, easy to clean, quiet
VitalBreu : Absolutely necessary!
So far it's perfect after learning the best temperatures for what I'm prepping.
Kelly : Great product
Easy use! We made lots dry fruits. And fun to make with you family during COVID at home.
John Bilich : Dangerous garbage
Dehydrator stopped working about one month after the product support window closed. Plugged it in to use it, it shorted out and threw the breaker in the kitchen. Garbage product, poorly built and finished, along with a electrical and fire hazard. Should be rated zero stars. DO NOT BUY!!!
AC : Good dehydrator...
Just made beef jerky with this machine. I found it difficult to clean the racks after a 4 hr dehydration process. I didn’t like that the light switch is in the back of the machine and you’re unable to adjust the time accurately and can only do this by increments. Otherwise than that, the beef jerky was done perfectly! Can’t wait to try fruits and vegetables next!
JoAnna Martin : Dependable!
This is the best choice I have ever made! Excellent quality, sturdy materials used, easy to use and perfect every time! Very quiet too. I love this dehydrator and use it often!
Anh Phan : Wide Range of Temperature, sturdy stainless steel stray, quiet operation.
I purchased this product because of its wide range of temperature and stainless steel stray. I need to dry many different products, which require low temperatures and hygiene. I'm pleased with most of its features. The stainless steel trays are very sturdy, easy to clean, and sanity. So far, I have made many refine sugars free fruit leather, fruit snacks, and beef jerky, Fish jerky, Koji Rice. However, only one small problem that the area in this photo is challenging to clean; I tried to open the back but very hard to open too. I hope the maker thinks about how to make it easier to clean. Sanitary and hygiene are essential to my needs.
Josh H. : Doesn’t work
Lights turns on but unit doesn’t power up. Touch controls won’t operate and control panel is dark
C. : Stopped working after 6 months
I purchased this unit in March 2021 to dehydrate treats for my dogs. I used it on September 24, 2021, and it worked fine as far as I knew. I went to use it again on September 27 and it would turn on, but the control panel didn't. I switched the breakers, turned the unit off/on repeatedly and unplugged it, and plugged it back in to no avail. The light inside would turn on, but the control panel ceased to work. I'm very disappointed in this unit and wouldn't recommend it to others.
yun chen : Beautiful appliance!!!!
Love the clear door so I can see all the food that’s dehydrating … my last dehydrator was plastic and you couldn’t see the food dehydrating on the layers … stainless steel is definitely the way to go !! The racks all come out so you can arrange and adjust them . Very Happy !
Grace320 : Food dehydrator can dry a lot of fruits
I bought the food dehydrator with 8 trays, it looks small but can do a lot of food. I cut 3 mango, and put each mango slices on one tray, so I used 3 trays only. It can dry 8 big mango slices at one time since it has 8 trays. The dehydrated mango was tasty, and you can see the color was still the same after the fruits are dried. It is very easy to use, just cut the fruits and put them in, and it come with a food instruction manual which teach you how to dehydrate many other fruits. I will try some other fruits later. So far I’m very happy with it.
Joyce : There are going to be time coming that anyone taking up drying is a step ahead of the game
Easy enough to use and control New at this. Dehydrated some shredded carrots last night. Works like a dream. Only got to Google best way to clean screens lol
Angelia Johnson : Runs quite good value
I love that the versatility.
Dr. CharliAnne : Great Dehydrator speedy drying.
So far I've only use it to make beef Jerky. with two fans it dries jerky in 4 or 5 hours instead of a day or two. The temperature range is great so you can make sure meats are heated to the right temperature before dehydrated so jerky will last a long time. it is taller but the footprint is smaller it doesn't take up much counter space Definite 5 stars.

Works very well.
terry slickers : need bigger unit for fruit
this unit works, but doing fruit it is not big enuf. You can ionly do 4-6 apples at a time at 3mm so next time I get a bigger one
cool mc coolio : Temp display is confusing
Description says it goes to sure 194 but I can only get it to go to 190. Also, lots of people saying the display shows Celsius, on mine the temperature button has a C on if but the display has an F. Based on the temperature range available, I’m pretty sure it’s operating in Fahrenheit. Manufacture should make this more clear.
Otherwise, seems like an ok dehydrator for what I’ll be using it for.
Toddfather : Works fine but some minor
I have another dehydrator, but my adult daughter is on a drying kick and "borrowed" mine, its been around a while so I decided to buy myself a new one. I've done jerky and some fruit slices, mostly pineapple and banana. the temperature seems pretty accurate, no complaints there, when I first start it, its a little loud, sounds like loose vibrating metal, but once it heats up this lessens, but still noticeable. Also temps are in Celsius and cannot be changed, not a big deal as conversions are on the machine for those who need a quick refresher. My biggest gripe! NO drip tray! I ended up buying a small 10x10 metal disposable pan, but it takes out the last tray when I use it.
amanda novak : Really great. Very happy
Very easy to use, and extremely quiet. It is large and bulky but totally worth it!

Steve Blair : Great unit for the price and size
So far works great. I used a probe to check the temp, and it is real close and steady. Perfect size for my needs
Jon H. : Something is wrong with this thing.
It works ok but not worth listening to the entire time its running. The temp is stuck in celcius, which is tolerable on its own, but combined with the fact it sounds like a lawnmower when running makes me hate it. The racks are too small and vibrate on the shelving inside which adds to the awful racket. Id rather drop a toolbox down an escalator.
Josh H. : Doesn’t work
Lights turns on but unit doesn’t power up. Touch controls won’t operate and control panel is dark
daebnet : Slow
It takes about 4 hours more to do most things
Levi : Very good for the price !
Great for the price I get lots of product done at once the temperatures on this seem to be a little higher which I can’t complain like when I do 165 for beef jerky it seems to get done sooner than other dehydrators so I would suggest putting it a couple degrees lower 155-160 and lowering the time clock as well you can always cook longer but you can’t in burn your jerky lol. Really a great product overall I also suggest putting a silicone mat at the bottom for cleanup or aluminum foil but like I said really a great product love it super quiet super effective
Grace McLeod : NO DRIP TRAY , GREASE, LEAKS OUT,EVERYWHERE!!
NO DRIP TRAY, VERY MESSY!
DO NOT PURCHASE!
Sweetpea : Cheaply made, bulky
This item was much small than expected, it appears cheaply made and would be hard to clean. No room much to dehydrate. I did like the temperature range on it however and that was the main reason for ordering it.
Miss Bobbi 808 : Great dehydrator, compact counter footprint
I've been using this dehydrator non-stop since I got it. I've made dried pineapple, banana, papaya, dragon fruit, longan and lychee fruits. I put the dried fruits in fruitcake for the holidays. Next up fruit melts, and proofing bread dough.
The flat stainless trays are easy to clean. I like the small footprint of the dehydrator--it doesn't take up too much room on the counter, but has 8 trays, enough for my uses. The glass door makes it easy to see inside, and the latch is secure. The digital controls make it easy to set time and temperature.
The recipe book is translated from some other language, so there is some entertainment value there. But the recipes are generally helpful.
I'm sure I'll use my old stacked-plastic tray, fan-on-the-bottom, can't-control-the-time-or-temperature dehydrator some day, but I can't imagine what for.

Jacqueline Redmon : Bought for jerky.
So far I love this. My husband and son love using it. Makes great jerky.
Susan : Great purchase!
Works very well.
Martin : Dehydrator a bit noisy
The only thing that I disliked about this dehydrator is that “it’s a bit noisy” the fan makes the machine vibrate therefore making the trays rattle inside the machine, maybe the manufacture can fix this problem by adding some heat resistant rubber on the rails that hold the racks. Other than that the machine works great!
Natural John : Wonderful design no plastic!
The design and engineering on the dehydrator is quite impressive. It fits perfect on my kitchen counter. I like that it has plenty of room with 8 shelves to dry lots of nuts, etc. It does an excellent job and the nuts taste much better than my previous dehydrator. The controls are very quick and easy. Although I wish they were in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. They probably sell a lot of these in Europe.
Also, NO plastic is much healthier. The light that I can switch off or on to see the progress is a pleasantly added bonus.
Ted K. : Can be load
Overall works great, except for the terrible vibration. The metal back vibrates so bad it's unbearable. Had the wedge a screwdriver between the back and the wall to reduce the sound. Hoping to come up with another solution in the future. Have used it many times now, and if you can keep the noise down it works excellent.
Penny : Replacing our old plastic dehydrator with this, a request/birthday present from mom (grandma).
We originally had a plastic one, but my mom kept nagging at me about how the plastic one isn't safe, so she actually gave me money this year to buy one for my birthday (she said I get to pick anyone as long as they're metal).
So, comparing this one and the other one we have, obviously the capacity is much larger. This one has 8 trays whereas the other we had only had 5. I also like the the temperature control setting, this one lets you choose setting from 68F to 194F (whereas our old one has a dial and you don't really know exactly where the temperature is set to ... just the approximately range that it's somewhere between 0 to 122/131 and somewhere between that and 158. This one also has a timer so I don't feel the constant urge to check on it every few hours to make sure it's not over-done. Obviously I think this is an upgrade to the one we already have, or else we wouldn't be getting it.
I do notice that with this one, I don't have issue "smelling the food that I previously dehydrate", whereas the plastic one sometimes I can still smell it in the dehydrator after the trays are washed. The food also stick on the metal a lot less than the plastic, for whatever reasons. My chicken jerky treats also turn out more "store bought" like with this one. So far we have made dried figs, dried dog treats (chicken jerky) and dried apple slices with it and have been very happy with the result.
The sign on the dehydrator says the exterior is hot when dehydrating, so I kept it away from my kid on the kitchen counter, however, when I touched it, I didn't think it was burning hot, but probably a good reminder to keep it away from children. I don't remember our plastic one ever had the sign or issue of being hot to touch while on but I also notice the max temperature on the new one is much higher (194 vs 158).
Definitely find out what you want and don't care for in a dehydrator, and if you want all the bells and whistles I listed, this one is definitely a keeper. I am sure there are pricier ones with things I don't even know can be done, but I am not willing to pay more than this to find out. :)
DEBRA MCCONNELL : Good choice!
This is easy to use and easy to clean.
odin russell : Doesn’t turn on
Doesn’t light up. Doesn’t work at all.
Dr. CharliAnne : Great Dehydrator speedy drying.
So far I've only use it to make beef Jerky. with two fans it dries jerky in 4 or 5 hours instead of a day or two. The temperature range is great so you can make sure meats are heated to the right temperature before dehydrated so jerky will last a long time. it is taller but the footprint is smaller it doesn't take up much counter space Definite 5 stars.
allen : Portable and handy dehydrator
My wife loves to cook and make delicious food for my kids, I bought this Colzer one mainly because of its 8 stainless trays and solid metal frame which is made of pure stainless steel. The machines are portable and fit well in my kitchen. I do have to say that it is easy to set up, I do have no experience with cooking but this machine is easy for me. I can set up time and temperature and that's pretty much it. The stainless trays are easy to wash. I'm glad that I got this one right.
liana munden : Good dehydrator
Simple to use.
