Questions about Rapala 50lb Digital Scale
Q:
Does this have a peak hold function?
Answer: NO
Q:
What is the unit of readout and accuracy?
Answer: Accuracy aligns well with another scale I bought from China for only $3.20, so I use the cheaper scale now.
Answer: it is adjustable metric to standard ... I prefer standard lb,s ounce's and measurement accuracy is ounces, no lower scale ... hope this helps. fyi I have been happy with my scale
Answer: It reads in pounds or kgs and is very accurate. Weighed a 25 lb dumbbell to test it and it was right on the nose
Q:
What size battery does this need?
Answer: The Rapala 50 lb Digital Scale requires 1 9 volt battery
Answer: It requires one 9 volt battery.
Answer: 9 volt battery
Answer: 9v
Answer: 9 volt
Q:
Does it weigh fish around 2 lbs. or only larger fish?
Answer: It will weight from 1 ounce so no problem with very small fish.
Answer: It weighs fish from 0 to 50. I've weighed fish that are half a lb. Works great!
Answer: I use this to measure break-away requirements for the nose landing gear on my airplane. It will weigh anything from tenths of an ounce to 50 pounds as far as I know. It has performed as advertised for me. Well made, simple.
Q:
What is the manufacturer recommended operating temperature range?
Answer: Not sure, but I use mine 2X/day to weight multiple buckets of feed. Kept in storage container year round. When it's cold, it seems to freeze up when first turned on...when that happens I turn off, then immediately turn back on which usually does the trick. Only complaint is no back light, which the more expensive version has but I found to be not as accurate.
Q:
Is the hook large enough to weigh a 40-45 LB Flathead?
Answer: it'll handle 50+ pounds
Q:
Where is this scale manufactured?
Answer: I wish I could answer you, but our scale broke so fast we threw it away. :(
Answer: I do not know the answer but recommend calling Rapala.
Answer: China
Q:
Will it weigh fish under a pound?
Answer: Just make sure you have setting to lb and oz
Answer: I've had it measure at 6 oz before
Answer: yes it will
Q:
How has it held up, after getting wet?
Answer: Died and it's a lot bigger than it looks on the web. Still looking for a good waterproof scale.
Answer: Not well. Mine got damp from humidity in tackle box and quit working after 6 months.
Answer: I don't know. It was a gift.

Q:
How big is it?
Answer: Its about 6 to 7in in length. Fits right in my short pocket. Really light.
Q:
Always comes on with Kg displayed, is there any way to change to lbs/oz?

Answer: This one is lbs and oz. Not tenths..
Answer: Yes, that is one of the settings.
Answer: Yes in KG and Lbs
Q:
Under size there is a drop down menu. If you select 'one size' the price is $24.45. If you select 'pack of 1' the price is $34.16. ????????????????
Q:
Does scale keep on changing weight with increasing/decreasing drag pressure? ex.Start off w/15lbs then increase to 25lbs gradually. does it read 25lb?
Answer: The scale reads up to 50 lbs. I believe it will gradually increase as the weight is increased.
Answer: Yes the scale will change until the weight stablelyze
Q:
Does this scale have a built in measuring tape?
Answer: No
Q:
does this weigh continuously (example: i hang a empty bottle off of it and slowly add water till i hit one pound while it shows weight increasing) or does it measure in an absolute fashion, waiting until weight is totally stabilized
Answer: I've never tried mine adding weight to it, but I would venture to think it will measure as you add weight, cause when I weigh fish, it weighs them very quickly, and If I add a little pressure to the fish it will show the increase...hope this helps.
Answer: The one I have shows the weight increasing and decreasing. I don't think it has a hold function.
Answer: Hi, yes these show increases of 1 ounce at a time so you can see the exact weight at all times.
Q:
is there an auto shut off?
Answer: yes it does shut off on it's own
Answer: Yes, it shuts off on it's own.
Q:
Does this scale show lbs and oz at the same time? Like 7lbs 8 oz, instead of 7.5 lbs
Answer: 7.5lbs
Answer: Yes it does both and also metric
Q:
Can it be zeroed out if I wanted to add a sling and weigh things inside the sling?
Answer: Yes in fact I recommend always zeroing it before weighing as its always a little off after turning on.
Answer: Yes it has a tare function!
Q:
do you just stick the hook thing in the fishes mouth?
Answer: Yes, through the bottom portion of course. You could also use a bag, but that does remove some of the fish's protective coating. You can also attach a fish holder to the hook which pinches the fishes mouth
Answer: no I put them in a plastic grocery sack or any sack and then put the hook thing in the handle of the sack
Answer: Nope. We use the scale to weight feed for farm critters...should work fine in the mouth though, assuming it's mouth doesn't tear.

Product reviews of Rapala 50lb Digital Scale
Larry Kettleson : Five Stars
great stuff
bradteel : Five Stars
Works as specified without issue. I've had it for several months now.
Jorge L Villegas : A Must For The Fisherman
I use this at least a few times a months. Works every time and is pretty accurate.
W. P. Watson : Good device but has some design issues
I was happy with the products design for usage and it's operation. However I found that it can't be thrown in a tackle box and expected to work when needed. The battery compartment lid fell off and was quickly lost. I also found that the button gets pressed when stored haphazardly and the battery is dead when needed. You need to find a good place to store it and make sure that it doesn't get accidentally actuated.
Just Bob : Rapala 50 lb Digital Scale
I have the same problem that another reviewer has using this scale. I found out that my fish don't weigh nearly as much as I thought they did. Oh well that's fishing. Lots of other reviewers have checked these scales and verified they are accurate so I don't see the need to redo that exercise and will take their word for it. The reason I knocked 1 star off the rating was because without the owners manual it was baffling to me on how to get it back to weighing in lbs when it was accidentally switched to kg. If you are running into the same problem the solution is when you press the button to turn it on and it starts flashing to press the start button again and it will go back to measuring in lbs. Yeah, it sure seems simple enough now that I've searched the internet for 10 minutes to find that answer but of course everything in life seems simple once you know the answer.
Jay : Perfect
Works every time. Easy to use and spot on with weight.
Lee : Perfect for weighing feed!
I use the scale in the barn to weigh out feed, so no more guessing, so it is the perfect solution, easy to use, easy to store, thanks!
Rccolaman : More fragile than a newborn baby
I will start off with my only compliment for this product which would be that it is accurate. That being said I cannot believe how fragile it is for something that is to be used outdoors. Another thing wouldn't you expect something that is going to be used to weigh wet fish to at least be water resistant? Don't hold your breath cause its not even close! The junk plastic they used has next to no durability and its just not what I expected from Rapala. It only lasted a month with casual use. Please don't waste your money and look for a more reputable brand.
Anne Itri : Worked fine at first
Worked okay at first, it Was a bit off like maybe 1 ounce but it was fine. Weighed a few bluefish on a boat, all around 8-10 pounds. Then I had it at the beach and it worked okay, but then I noticed it registers 2 pounds when there Was no fish on it, even tried washing It that didn't fix it, thought maybe sand got in it. Don't waste your money on it.
J. Emro : Glad to find this to replace the old one
We've used this in our barn to weigh feed for 8-9 years now. When the first one finally crumped, I was really happy to find it again! Ours hangs in the barn exposed to rain, snow, freezing temps down to the teens and summer heat in the low 100's and it just keeps on working! The manual scales rusted in only a year or so, making this one not only more accurate and easy to read, but longer lived as well. It can be easily changed from pounds to kilograms; we're always temporarily stumped when it accidentally gets changed and the weights seem 1/2 off ;-) You'll want to remember that feature when it happens to you!
1/2/2017: this thing is still hanging in the barn, exposed to weather, and other than 2 battery changes, it's still awesome!
Oscar Serrato : Highly dissatisfied. The screen stopped working and showing weights after 2 weeks of use
Only had the scale for 2 weeks before the screen just completely got messed up and would no longer display information
Seymore : Its alright. Most of the time it won't switch ...
Its alright. Most of the time it won't switch from Kg to Lbs for some reason. Seems accurate though in either setting.
Bob R : Five Stars
Works well
Mr. Forker : Great scale for bass fishing
Compact and accurate. Easy to read. My son loves grabbing it and weighing every fish we bring in the boat.

Seems to weigh accurately. On our last trip we weighed fish ranging from 5 to 35 lbs and the weights seemed pretty consistent. This is the second one of these I've owned and although the four year life of the first was a little disappointing I did buy another when the time came. The only thing about these scales that I really don't like is the 9V battery...it can be quite frustrating to remove from the unit when storage time comes.
Amazon Customer : Handy and Accurate
I did a bunch of research and this Rapala 50lb scale kept coming up so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well every review was correct. It works well, the screen is clear and it's perfectly accurate for what I need it for. I wouldn't use for tournament fishing but it will do you just fine personally.
Steve Frisby : So....so....
So far, works ok- a bit slow to turn on but fairly accurate. Needs a large hook to better hold fish. Large ( 3-5lb ) small mouth bass often flounce around and come off the hook while weighing.
Atrain : Works
This thing works like it should. We've weighed several four to five pound bass with this so far. It was a good price.
T : junk
must replace it every year.
Anthony Bondy : Then came on and worked fine. Appears to be affected by heat
Wouldn't turn on the first time I used it after checking it at home. Took off back battery cover, Then came on and worked fine. Appears to be affected by heat, or have a cheap LCD, or else was laying on the button in my storage box. I like that it measures in lbs and oz.
jan : Five Stars
We are glad to have this, we lost our other scale, so will get great use of this.
Richfisherman : Happy fishing. Catch a heavy one.
I like the scale but i could figure out how to change it to pounds.
Rich : Good fish scale.
Works good for fishing to get an idea of what my fish weigh.
Tanner JD : ... of buttons can kinda complicate things but overall I like this scale
The lack of buttons can kinda complicate things but overall I like this scale.
Bert Braunsteiner : No more guessing the fish's weight.
No more guessing the fish's weight in the boat. I checked it and the weight it gives is spot on. Great price and really great turn over in shipping and the price is what I need. A very readable readout of the weight. All in all a great product.
Amazon Customer : 1 and done (broke!)
I might have got a lemon but this scale weighed one fish and never worked again.
Don Birmingham : Five Stars
perfect
Johnny : Good scale and accurate
Bought this to replace a Berkley sclae that I lost and it's works just as good except the hook and chain could have stainless steel like the Berkley one.
Don : decent scale
This is the go to "cheap" scale that most people have. The hook is nice and big to hook up my flatheads. My biggest was a 38lb Flathead. LINES TIGHT!
Seymore : Its alright. Most of the time it won't switch ...
Its alright. Most of the time it won't switch from Kg to Lbs for some reason. Seems accurate though in either setting.
Brandon : Very accurate and battery life is great.
I bought this as all of the salmon charters I have been on use the exact same scale. Very accurate and battery life is great.
Downeast : Good scale
Only inexpensive scale I have used that worked for more than one year.

Nancy N : Great scale at a reasonable price
I have a Berkely scale as well. I prefer this one. It weighs quickly and is easy to hold on to. I like that it is backlit. Weighs in pound increments rather than pounds and ounces. (1.5 lbs versus 1 lb 8 oz). It is a bit tricky to get it out of the kg mode, but not impossible. I use it for weighing hay for my horses in their hay nets. The nice hook on it makes it easy to hang larger objects on it. Put the cat in a bag with handles and I can weigh him. Would be good for weighing luggage, and even it's intended use; weighing fish! I also like that it uses AA batteries. The Berkely requires a special battery. Overall, a great little scale.
Alkire Family : Weight off unless very heavy.
Unless you're over 35 pounds, the weight is off a pound at times. I weighed 1 pound and it gave me .75. 5 pounds was 4.3. 20 pounds was 18 pounds. 35 pounds was 34.8.
Billbaileysmusic : my go to Scale...
Outstanding!!! worked as Advertised...
Ben Fok : simple and functional
I bought this and other scale (TooGoo 40KG digital fishing scale fish hook hanging weighing scale) to weigh my cat, which out-grew my current 15Lb scale. The reading of this scale is consistent with my other scale with 0.1Lb, which is acceptable for me. I like the more ergonomic handle. The on button is a bit slow to respond. You have to hold it down for a couple seconds for it to turn on. I thought it was a DOA because of that. Now I got used to it and it is not a problem.
Lastly, I have this scale for a few months now and it hasn't broken yet so I am happy.
I will buy again if I need more scale.
jim clark : difficult to calibrate. hard to get from kg to ...
difficult to calibrate. hard to get from kg to lbs. Had to go to u tube to understand how to make it work and still could not make it function correctly.
Brian Goldsworthy : Great Product
Just received this product this morning and had to try it out. Picked up a 15lbs dumbbell and the scale read 15.44lbs. Since this dumbbell is a cheap store bought weight I'm going to say that the scale is correct since bumbbells don't have to be exact weight stated. The scale is extremely light weight but felt sturdy when I had the weight on it. It takes a 9v battery and also has a tare function. Great buy but time will only tell since I only fish saltwater.

Doug Short : in my case it would be nice if the auto shutoff was set up for a ...
Very accurate, probably hard to believe but i actually use this to weight baby rabbits in my rabbitry to monitor growth rates. Works well and no issues. I can assure that the auto shutoff does work well too, in my case it would be nice if the auto shutoff was set up for a longer duration because i do have to turn it back on a few times and re-set the tare in the time it takes to weight 10-20 rabbits. Not sure the duration, a minute or two which is plenty of time for what it was designed for. If mine does break i will replace it with the same model as i did verify that the accuracy is good which is the most important thing to me, as far as the auto shutoff, i am glad it does because i am one that would be replacing batteries all the time if not.
Anthony Bondy : Then came on and worked fine. Appears to be affected by heat

erob : Disappointing
I bought this to weigh horse hay (for a horse with medical issues - hence the importance of weighing the hay) and have a couple of issues with it.
1. I cannot get it to tare.
2. The measuring units are supposed to be pounds and ounces but it only weights to 0.9 then goes to 1.0 (or next highest weighed number) which leads me to believe that a reading of 0.4 is actually about half a pound and not 4 ounces. Hence, the manufacturer description is misleading.
3. It is clumsy to use
4. It needs a backlit display
I guess I'll keep it as the clam shell packaging has been thrown away and it does give me a weight but I don't trust it's accuracy. As long as I am consistent in how I use it, I guess it has some functionality.
M3 : Satisfied
Very satisfied, the only thing I would change on it, is it takes it a little bit to turn on, and the fish can flop off the hook, but both are minor issues, and wouldn't prevent me from buying this scales again.
I recommend it if you're looking for a good accurate scales.
Matt : very nice
Works well, accurate and durable.
