Questions about Calamus Fishing Fillet Knife And Bait Knives, German G4116 Stainless-Steel Blades with Corrosion Resistant Coating, Non-Slip Handles, Protective Nylon Sheath, Perfect For Fresh Or Saltwater.
Q:
Does it float?
Answer: No, it will not float on water.
Answer: Not sure, keep it on the shore.
Q:
What type of sharpening stone you recommend for this German blade?
Answer: I use workmate belt sander for knives on all my kitchen hunting and fishing. That’s what I do ????
Q:
Is it dishwasher safe?
Answer: you should NEVER put a knife in the dishwasher.
Answer: I'm not sure----I only hand wash. I expect that it is ok for dishwasher
Answer: Yes it is. Top rack though.
Answer: Yes
Q:
is the serrated back of the bait knife for scaling?
Answer: Yes, you can use the serrated back for scaling but there are also many other uses for this feature. One is for cutting frozen bait. The serrations make cutting frozen bait much easier. It is also very effective for cutting bone and also things like rope or cord.
Q:
I’m a novice that catches salt n fresh of all sizes. Would 9” be too clunky?
Answer: Not at all. It is very flexible and actually works better and allows you to feel for where you are making your cuts. We don’t catch large fish and this even works well on that. Favorite knife I’ve purchased for filleting fish.
Answer: I find the knife easier to handle AND more importantly see where the blade is moving during fillet.
Q:
Is the 9" fillet the total length or just the length of the blade?
Answer: The blade length is 9 inches, if you include the handle it's approximately 15 inches total.
Answer: It is the blade length
Answer: It is the length of the blade
Answer: Length of the blade
Q:
Who is the manufacturer of this knife? i’ve heard that this is made by kastking. is that correct?
Answer: Not sure who makes this knife, but I’m not to impressed with its performance, does not stay sharp, I like my 35 year old Rapala better.
Answer: Calamus was hatched as an Eposeidon incubator program for revolutionary ideas. Out of the box thinking was applied to fishing tackle to create spectacular, more efficient products.
Q:
where is knife made ?
Answer: The box says made in China
Answer: It’s a US company.
Q:
What is the blade sharpening angle?
Answer: Not sure of the angle. I use a Lasko box sharpener with 2 different angles built in and use the instructions recommended angle for outdoor knives and it works really well. I follow it up with a leather strop.
Q:
How well does this knife maintain its sharp edge?
Answer: Holds an edge very well. Blade is very ridged. Not much flex
Answer: Not well at all, my 35 year old Rapala holds a better edge.
Answer: Needs to be sharpened often especially on Walleye and bass
Q:
Why dont i have the option for the 7" blade?
Answer: There are 7” blades out there
Q:
I can only see 5” & 9” fillet knife. Is there no 7” for sale?
Answer: The 7" Fillet Knife is available now.
Q:
How does it stand up to salt water?
Answer: It don’t stand. It lays down.
Product reviews of Calamus Fishing Fillet Knife And Bait Knives, German G4116 Stainless-Steel Blades with Corrosion Resistant Coating, Non-Slip Handles, Protective Nylon Sheath, Perfect For Fresh Or Saltwater.
Wild Bill : Good buy for a boat or cleaning table
Holds an edge good if you keep it out of big bones, doesn’t rust, handle is good even when wet.
cory : Good knife comfortable handle
Great knife! Just the right amount of flex for cutting big slabs of fish.
Jacob Birkholz : Sharp! Great value
Sharp and durable ... handle seems like a foam or synthetic leather cover over a plastic base ... not sure if it will rip or flake off over time exposed to washing etc
Otherwise a great knife so far, sharp and durable
Would buy again

Mrs Parker : Buy cut resistant gloves it’s SHARP!
Super sharp. Grab the cut resistant gloves and make sure to have them on before opening knife. Do not let kiddos around it. Husband sliced his ring finger to the bone within 30 seconds of opening it. Spent a night in the ER.
Mindy R. : Amazing and super sharp, not junk
SUPER SHARP!!
Beautiful color!!!
chris polnow : Sharp! Sharp! Sharp!
I BBQ a lot. That involves a lot of trimming, and it’s easy to cut yourself when you have to fight the meat. Because of the blades sharpness, it’s actually easier to do it with a very sharp knife. Can’t beat it for the price.
pennycandy : A super value Fishing Knife
The blade has the perfect flex. The steel keeps its edge nicely.
The cushioned grip is comfortable and slip-resistant
Great price all for the quality you get.
I would highly recommend this filet knife
Kastking is a great fishing brand.
roy krueger : Good knife
Good knife. Was flexible enough to clean a bunch of crappie and stayed sharp. Got a cool pliers tool for taking hooks out as a free gift. Nicer than the knife! Better than the one I had. And has a belt holster to keep it near.

MAF : Great product
This bait knife feels really good in the hand. Quality feel and the price is fair. Sharp right out of the box and Calamus products, I’m my opinion, are one of the better bargains out there. I’m a long time KastKing fan and feel this company makes comparable products at a better price point.
Ricky : Great product for the value!
Great value for the cost. The steel is super sharp and should last. Will try other sizes and combinations.
Only reason for 4 not 5 is due to the grip is a sewn together material which might tear after much use - will put it to the test.
Bowtie : Long , sharp knife great for large salmon...
Highly recommend.... Great knife

Phillip W. : Time will tell.
This bait knife seems to have a good strong blade. Sharp right out of the box but time will tell if it holds an edge and how easy it is to sharpen.
The handle is very comfortable in hand.
Time will tell if this is a good value.
J wil : good knife
very sharp, seems to be high quality. I havent had a chance to use it yet but it seems like a great knife

Taylor : Excellent value with great results
This knife is perfect for cleaning big fish such as bull mahi and wahoo. The flexible blade really allows you to hug the spine while taking off the filets and also allows fine adjustments to get as much meat as you can. Removing blood lines and pin bones are both simple task as well. A great knife.
Paul Z. : Calamus G6 Fillet Knife - A Great Knife & A Great Price
I was anxious to try this Calamus G6 fillet knife because I own other KastKing products and they are all great products. The first thing you notice is the nonslip very comfortable handle. The super sharp teflon covered blade slides and cuts very easily while filleting. Blade flex is good, letting you control the knife easily. And when you are done, the knife goes back into a rigid open style sheath that snaps to the knife. This is a great knife at a bargain price.

Bought this knife and the bait knife for hubby and he is very pleased. He likes the balance. He says they are nice and sharp!
Ike : Very nice size and feel
The knife is the perfect size for the type of fish I filet. Lightweight, flexible tip and slip proof handle. Also the blade is a unique blue color(Teflon Coating). Not a bad knife for the price.
Us A C : Handle
A bit sticky handle
Geirsen : Decent blade for the price
I just had a chance to use this knife for the first time yesterday. Cuts well and the 9" blade is a decent shape and size for 10-20lb fish. The knife could be a bit sharper, but nothing a proper fillet knife sharpener can't fix. The handle has plenty of grip and does not slip from your hand, even when covered in fish juices.
I definitely recommend this as a first fillet knife for someone who is a bit more budget-conscious.

Holly W : Good knife for the price
I am happy I ordered this knife. It was at a great price, so I decided to buy it. I am hoping to use it this weekend or next! It is lightweight, the handle fits right into your hand, and the blade bends, but not too much.

ChrisB : Love this Fillet Knife
My husband wanted to get me my own fillet knife for our fishing camp, he researched several and this was the best for the money. I love the ergonomic handle and the way the blade holds an edge. Now that we have it, I find my husband using it instead of his buck fillet knife!
Paige : Great Beautiful and sharp knife for the price!
Bought it as a Father’s Day gift and he absolutely loved it, more than I thought he would. Really nice and clean knife, very well built, especially for the price. Not too overpriced. Came really fast. Beautiful vibrant blue with a really great look all together. Very sharp straight out of the box. Just wish it was a little more flexible.
Bowtie : Long , sharp knife great for large salmon...
Highly recommend.... Great knife
L. Erdman : Great knife, especially for the price
The first things I noticed when I took the knife out of the box is the quality of construction and the heft (which is a good thing, it feels very solid and easy to handle, not too light nor heavy). You will need to sharpen it though, as it didn't come very sharp. As always, sharpen regularly! Even the best knives get dull and need to be sharpened.
James Muskelly : Great fillet knife
Just as a update on this knife I have filleted many stripers and catfish so far and it has performed with no issues. If I had to buy this knife again I would in a heartbeat with out hesitation.
Gerardtb : Great bait knife.
Been using it for a few months now. Super sharp and works great! Mainly used for cutting bunker and saltwater fishing.
Don't hesitate to buy!
Brian Warriner : Super Sharp
Sharpest bait knife I've ever owned and a step up from them cheap off brands that actually cost more than this knife. I am going on a fishing trip this weekend and I will be using this blade to cut up catfish food

Jake : Great knife for the price
This fillet knife is very well made. I was impressed at the quality compared to the low price. The teflon coating will come in handy with cleaning and durability. The rubber handle feels great in the hand and helps keep your grip even with fish slime. I have quite a few KastKing products and this is yet another one that doesn't disappoint.

My knife is not sharp at all. Total waste of money

Tncountryboy : Time will tell...
I just received this fillet knife. Feels very well in my hand and feels pretty good. I like the coating on the blade to prevent rusting which im assuming it has a carbon blade, which i prefer over stainless and the vented sheath to help it air dry. The sheath locks onto the knife perfectly. With everything going to the molle system, it would of been nice if the sheath had of adapted this tp attach to my guide tackle bag. But is very rigid compared to other fillet knives ive had. I haven't used it yet, but generally fillet knives are very flexible. This one does flex but not as much as my others. Also out of the box its not as sharp as I would expect a fillet knife to be. I will a sharpen it and try it next week on my next crappie fishing trip. Sharpening won't be a problem i just hope its not to rigid to keep it from being excellent at fileting fish. I'm going to take a second knife just incase this one fails in performance. Time will tell..
