Questions about SHIMANO Butterfly JIGS Flat Side 15 JIGS Fishing Lures

The picture shows a shimano flat side jig which has assist hook on the nose. The flat fall jigs come with hooks on opposite side. What is it?

Answer: Having bought diamond jigs (plain and hammered), speed jigs, butterfly jigs..., my opinion is some come with treble hooks on the end, some come with assist hooks top or bottom, some come with one assist hook, and some come with two. Quien sabe? I generally put 2 different length assist hooks on the top end of all. Be aware this may change the action of the lure.

Answer: to assure better hook up. add a treble to the other end tie off to the side with the eye letting the single hook dangle for the win....

Isn't the trailing hook on backwards in these images?

Answer: The image shows the assist hook which is installed on the top (front of the jig) and lays down the side of the jig when fished.

Are these good for black sea bass? 80'-150' of water over wrecks

Answer: It is fascinating at the variety of fish species that will hit vertical jigs in the column. That said, weight has to be considered with current strength and coloration with depth. Also vary jogging speeds. I get as much action bites on a slower pumping motion than a frantic jigging action. Sea bass should hit as well as do Grouper, Aja, Snapper, etc. I average using 6-8 ounce jigs at 100-250’.

The hook included or not?

Answer: Yes

Is it recommended to change the factory hook out for a stronger one for BFt?

Answer: I never had problems with the hook on mine. If however you are catching bigger fish then i guess you could change out the hook to avoid stressing out the hook.

Answer: Just got back from a 6 day long range trip and while I am no expert - I was told by an "expert" that he always changes them out with Owner hooks.
