Questions about Oklahoma Joe's 20202105 Rider 900 Pellet Grill, Black
Q:
Is it made in China? If so, no sale.
Answer: This Rider 900 Pellet Grill is manufactured in China. Give us a call at 1-866-239-6777 and we'll be happy to provide more details on this grill.
Answer: The are made in China. But so are Traegar. Normally I feel the same way. But this thing is so well made and super solid! The metal of the traegar’s feel so flimsy. The Oklahoma Joe is a true barrel smoker. My last one (offset smoker not pellet) is still going strong (over 10 years)! And I said if they ever made a pellet smoker I’d scoop it up. Glad I did. Good luck man!
Answer: Is there one that is made in the US? I think they are all made on China.
Q:
what is the warranty on the ryder 900?
Answer: This Rider 900 Pellet Grill has a two year warranty on all parts.
Q:
shipping container size (will in fit in my front and back doors)?
Answer: Maybe. It depends on the size of the doors. A standard since door probably won’t be wide enough. You have to assemble it, so I recommend assembling it outside where you plan to place it. It’s really easy to assemble if you follow step by step.
Answer: That’s a great question however without knowing the size of your doors and the throw of door when opened I can’t answer the question we had ours dropped off on our back deck and the driver put the box right where I asked him to.
Answer: The box dimensions for this pellet grill are 22.5" x 46.5" x 30.5".
Answer: It should
Q:
Can the outside racks be removed for storage?
Answer: Yes. Don’t screw them in and you can store in or under grill. The when needed, slip into slots and whoala; instant shelf.
Answer: Yes. This can be done.
Q:
Does this have a wifi temperature to contect to phone?
Answer: No. This Pellet Grill is not able to connect to WiFi.
Answer: No it does not. If you have a Lowe’s near you check there prices. I made a mistake ordering online the had the deluxe version for the same price ????
Answer: It does not. But there are plenty of them on the market that are probably better than the ones that usually come with a smoker.
Q:
Can this stored covered and under under a covered deck?
Answer: Yes. This can be done.
Q:
I am having temperature fluctuations at all temp levels in excess of 25 degrees. OK Joes support is sending parts but is this normal variance?
Answer: Nope
Q:
Also the first 2 cooks I have done the fan never turns off...Normal?
Answer: Fan has always run on mine
Answer: No. Something is wrong.
Q:
Can extension cord be used
Answer: I’ve used an extension cord every time I use it and haven’t had any problems. Just make sure it’s in a gfi outlet.
Answer: Of course. I’m doing that now
Answer: Yes
Q:
The smoker/grill has two features on the knob. What exactly does it do? Is one for just grilling and leaves the auger off and the other for smoking ?
Answer: The auger does not turn off during use. This Pellet Grill is able to obtain a wide range of temperatures. Give us a call at 1-800-318-7744 and we will be happy to provide more information.
Answer: The low medium high settings in orange are constant feed setting that feed pellets at a set rate when using the open flame or sear function on the grill. The other settings on the dial are feed rates to achieve a set temperature and are spaced at 25 degree increments when using the grill with the fire pit closed and in smoke mode.
Q:
How do I order a new controller box
Answer: As long as I bought the items before
Q:
Does it get hot enough to sear a steak?
Answer: Yes, open the port and it will sear!!
Answer: Yes it does I just cooked a steak couple of days ago it came out good
Answer: On high, 763 degrees last night!
Answer: Yes.
Product reviews of Oklahoma Joe's 20202105 Rider 900 Pellet Grill, Black
Elizabeth : Too hot
I love this thing. Just get mad that it has a hard time staying cold enough. It wants to cook at 300 vs 170
Kern Jackson : Worth the money
Grill is pretty amazing. It's much bigger than we expected. Only negative is that your have to put it together and the box weighs almost 200 pounds.
ActuallyGood : Perfect, easy to assemble, great temperature control and well worth every penny spent!
OK so this was a surprise birthday present for my hubby. He has been wanting a really good smoker for years and did his research. Not only was delivery completely accurate and the delivery service called me 20 minutes out, but the gentlemen were kind and courteous. In addition, my husband was so excited we assembled it right away in an hour and immediately made plans for dinner. The result, easy to assemble, easy to use and temperature control is awesome! I highly recommend in Oklahoma Joe’s smoker it’s worth every penny!
TFE : Quality build, great smoker!
I’ve always had barrel smokers and loved them. I got a traegar and what I never liked about the Traegar Grill is how flimsy it felt. The metal was really thin and I thought I’d have to buy another on in no time. And when OKLAHOMA JOE put out this pellet smoker I was in, and I’m glad I did it. Perfect smoke every time and like my barrel smokers in the past, thick metal that won’t bend. A quality build and we’ll be smoking and grilling for a long time to come!
David C. : Fantastic grill
Fantastic and easy to use. Took about 2 hours to assemble solo. Put it straight to use. After 3 months it’s still a great buy.
Mark Smith : great smoker with the added caveat below
The cover didn't fit properly, they said they will send a replacement, we will see how it fits. They sent a new smoker!!
tmoz : Potentially Catches Fire Even When Clean, Dishonest Company
I posted up a 4 out of 5 star review originally but was greeted with this: "Our staff has read your review and values your contribution even though it did not meet all our website guidelines."
Now, this will be the last OK Joe product I ever buy. The following is my original review, but I'm knocking it down to 1 star and calling them on their BS.

Good but Scary Pellet Hopper w/Sear/Grill Function
It does the job - holds steady temps, efficiently uses fuel, and cooks my food to perfection. My food does sit a bit hotter than I like since the firepot is right below the grates in the middle and it's a small space. That said, the sear/grill function scares me. I have contacted support about it before and validated there were no jams and the auger/grill were clean. Once it hits about 325F+ with the sear/grill function, the pellet hopper starts to smoke and when it's 400F+ it becomes a smokestack. I have even witnessed it catch fire (there wasn't much fuel in it, was testing to see if it'd still do it). I have cleaned it after every use very meticulously but no matter how many times I poke the sear bear, it bites me. So, I just don't use the sear/grill function at all since I have a real grill. It'll probably end up melting the controls anyway!
JWP : Great grill for the money
I bought this to get searing heat to cool steaks, finish chicken, etc. it’s great for that. It has good base grilling surface area for bigger venues or slabs I keep it by the lil Tex traeger and use the one that suits the need better on any given cook. Having to empty the pellets to start the cool down seemed like a haste on this grill, but it’s really not bad at all I don’t know all the grills, but this is the best bang for the buck from what I have seen
G. Loza : One and done
The unit worked once. The next time I went to turn it on, there's no power at the screen. I contacted oklahoma joes (truthfully very good customer service) and was told the digital control box needed to be replaced. They would be sending me a new one so I can install it. There have been so many replacements, there's a 6-8 week backlog. Buy something else!
Jerry morgan : Nothing but problems
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, Buy this grill! I used it three times and then the auger got jammed. I cleared all of the pellets and reassembled the unit and the kept getting the error code for temperature probe malfunction. Everything is plugged in correctly, but it still will not work. Extremely disappointing! I would not recommend this to anyone.

CoachDad : Great features
I like this grill a lot. If I had to do it over, though, I would have spent the extra for the DLX. The cooking drum is a fine size if you take the rack out. It is about the same size as other pellet grills in that respect...but seeing a DLX in person I should have paid for the extra space. Pros: * It does a great job of smoking and cooking low and slow. * It produces a ton of smoke when smoking * The extra exterior racks are nice. * It is SOLID. * The pellet swap out system and bucket are the best I've seen. * The Ash cup is a great design and feature that others lack * It comes with one meat probe, but can use 2 at once Cons: * The temp controller only goes to 300, then it is Low, Medium, and High, which provide temp ranges above 300 degrees. It would be way better with a dial that just kept going up incrementally. * There is no handle to use to roll it, so you have to use the shelf. This is not a big deal, as who moves their grill very much? but still... * There is a hot spot above the sliding heat diffuser. The flames come out the side there, but unless you are filling the grill full, you can work around it. It is not bad below 300, but at 300 and above the center is hotter. One final note: Assembly was pretty easy, buy it preassembled if possible. The smokestacks on mine did not fit and I had to wait for new ones to be sent out (Customer service was great!) Apparently small fit issues are not uncommon. In the end, I would buy this again, but I'd spend the $100 to upgrade to the DLX.
Joe : Save up for a Traeger OR Buy it and pray you don't have an issue after couple months
Didn't get mine with Amazon but with Menards, I posted this review on Menards website as well.
Bought this smoker in mid July 2020. Out-front this is a great looking smoker, the design is really nice, you have plenty of space to setup with the extra shelves, plenty of cooking area, the pellet trap is awesome and easy to use for you to change pellets, easy to clean the ashes with the ash tray that you can unscrew from the bottom, and the grill settings are nice.
Smoker worked great for about 6-7 months, I was cooking everything I wanted on it with great smoking flavor it was awesome. Then winter hit and I starting using the smoker less/ just for small cooks but every time I was done with it I made sure no pellets were left inside, that the smoker was cleaned and it was covered up. As soon as it was decent outside (April 2021) I started with some ribs and I've noticed that the Auger was acting weird. My temperature would stay around 250F and out of the bloom it would spike up like crazy then dip down until I had to go to the grill play the temperature nob for it to "reactivate itself", this happened couple times during the cooking process. Contacted Okl Joe's customer support through phone waited 1 hour on the phone to get asked to send an email in. Send an email about my issue and after 2 weeks I finally heard back from them, they automatically told me to follow the Auger Maintenance video you can find on youtube and closed my "ticket". Did that and now my issue is even worst then before, it is literally impossible for me to keep a low temperature (grilling works fine). Contacted okl Joe's again (20th of July 2021) about this, got a response 1 week later with a follow up question, I replied right away and now (4th of August) I'm waiting to hear back from them.
To resume up: This grill was working great for the 6-7 months I was able to use it properly but after winter this turned into a very expensive wood pellet grill. With literally the worst Customer Support I probably ever dealt with.. When you buy a 500$ grill I'm expecting at least somewhat of a responsive Customer Support. Word of advice save up a bit more and go for a Traeger, at least they have great support and a huge community behind it
Kasey K : Right Pellets=An awesome grill.
I love this pellet grill. Please note, DO NOT USE PIT BOSS PELLETS with this grill, or you will have auger jams. If you use traeger or lumberjack pellets this unit will not have auger issues. Even though this unit does not have a PID controller, the algorithms used by OK Joe do a much better job than the other digital controllers I’ve used such as the traeger basic and the z grills basic. Temps were always measured within 5-10 degrees of my set point. This unit produces smoke better than the z grills or basic traeger(non PID) units I’ve owned. Removable ash cup, sear or smoke, great controller, pellet dump feature, adjustable racks, heavy duty grates, and a heavy build make this a great unit. If you ever need parts, they are very inexpensive and customer service is very helpful.
tybuy : Amazon was wonderful, smoker NOT!
We received the smoker, assembled and followed the seasoning steps. Within 30 minutes of use the motor went out. Very Upset, and of course I had thrown the box away that morning. No place to store a huge box, and return instructions stated it must be in the original box. I started an online chat with Amazon and explained I had no box, they kept saying i could return it and i kept saying ok but how without a box. They offered 30% off and keep it. Absolutely not! I broke within 30 minutes. I'm not paying 600.00 for a smoker that doesn't work the 1st use. I won't say how, but Amazon came through with flying colors to make it right. Called the company and they sent a new motor free of charge. Amazon is amazing.
