Questions about Amazon Basics Vacuum Seal System, Black
Q:
Is this product made in China?
Answer: Yes, it's made in China.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Can this be used with food saver wide mouth jar sealer?
Answer: Yes it has a suction tube
Q:
When i am using foodsaver brand bags it just keeps sucking it doesn't stop and seal, anyone have suggestions or had same issues?? thanks.
Answer: I have a different brand sealer but have had the same issue with it just sucking air and not sealing. I have found that sometimes the problem is that the bag is not perfectly flat in the sealer area or that the bag ends are jagged from bad cutting, (dull scissors). Try and make sure that the open ends that you want to seal are very flat and cut smoothly. I hope that helps you.
Answer: I was having this issue with the included bags because I was trying to be too cheap and make the bag too small. It gets crinkled and poor alignment if the food is pulling the bag down and out. I found using more of the roll for a longer bag eased that tension and made it vacuum just fine.
Answer: We had a food saver that had this issue. We had to push down on it with more pressure to get it to seal it. The gaskets were probably worn never new to turn them over and try it. Hmm
Answer: I have the same problem with the bags it came with
Answer: The gaskets could be worn. Take them out and turn them over if this resolves the problem order a couple of new gaskets.
Q:
Does it come with bags?

Q:
Does amazon basics make bags?

What are the two black strips pictured above for? Mine look like part of the packing material and I did not have a spare gasket.
Answer: They are the spare gaskets.
Q:
Why does the manual state the following: notice: under vac seal mode, bags with the smaller width cannot be sealed.
Answer: I don't know why it reads that way. I have sealed both large and small bags successfully with this machine, in fact it replaced an old "Foodsaver" I owned and I like this machine much better. I hope this helps though it doesn't answer your question directly as to the printed instructions for that I have no clue. Have a great day!
Answer: This sealer is not good. I returned mine and bought another brand.
Q:

Answer: it connects inside, there is a small hole on the right , by where it would seal. then a very small button near where the hose connects just press .
Q:

Answer: I have never had to rest mine. However, I don’t do large qualities.
Q:
Good morning you have the option for 220V
Answer: No!
Q:
Does it work for soups and maybe chili?
Answer: I have had good success vacuum sealing chili and "thick" stews, especially if refrigerated first. Use the moist setting on the sealer. Soup or anything mostly liquid requires special (and expensive) vacuum bags or zipper lock freezer bags with the air squeezed out or water displaced, then frozen flat.
Answer: One good solution to this is to freeze them in Souper Cubes, then pop them out and use the sealer on them. They stack in the freezer very well and are measured and easy to use for lunches or a quick supper.
Answer: I'm not sure. The only food that I have used it for is meat. Sorry I couldn't help.
Answer: would not try on liquids
Answer: Yes it will

Answer: Same happened here when using certain bags, try another brand. Also, make sure the cut is very even before sealing
Q:
Does this work with non roll bags? I'm talking about pre-cut bags that are different sizes.
Answer: Yes, it will work with any vacuum seal bags. I’m very impressed with this product, I had a popular brand vacuum sealer which was difficult to use. I’ve even recommended to a friend.
Answer: It should. Simply skip the step requiring you to create a bag by sealing the bottom. But make sure the sizes fit
Q:
En donde esta fabricado este producto ???
Answer: Hecho en China... es solo para uso doméstico.
Q:
What type of bags do you order?
Answer: Food saver and generic work well
Q:
Replacement parts - I need the suction hose and nozzle and spare gasket. Can I order these or get them replaced ?
Q:
What accessories are available for suction hose? Is it compatible with different brands?
Answer: Plastic Containers from Amazon
Q:
Can it be used on small bowls?
Answer: No
Q:
Can't make it work. after it sucks the air & turns off, if i swipe as it says. it just cuts the bag shorter. doesn't seal. help?
Answer: Press the green vacuum seal button. If you see that the vacuum seal is good but the suction has not stopped hit the stop button. Then seal the bag like you were creating a new bag. Cut it and you're done.
Answer: Would you pls check if your vacuum bag have been completly put in the vacuum chamber, as if no, the seal function will be not worked, pls have a try. Thanks.
Answer: After you vacuum and seal it. You don't use the cutter again. Yes, that cuts off what was just sealed. You just open it up and remove. Hope I understood you problem and helped.
Q:
Is the sucking of air loud?
Answer: Not really loud. But yes it is noisy. To be honest all of these type of machines are noisy. this helps. Helps.
Answer: It can be depending on what you are sealing and how much but it doesn't take very long only a few seconds on average
Q:
is it free volt?
Answer: No, 120v, 60Hz.
Q:
What vaccines seal bash rolls work with this item?

Q:
Does the roll fit inside the machine?
Answer: The standard roll does fit inside. However, rolls with longer length (more value/economic) will probably not.

Answer: Yes
Q:
When I open the lid to my vacuum sealer the vacuum turns on and will not shut off and the instructions don’t say how to troubleshoot that does anyone
Answer: Well, I'm really not sure. But I know ours doesn't do that, and I'm pretty sure that is not ment to do that. I think Iwould send it back, and get a new one. Good luck :)
Q:
What type of attachments can you use with the hose
Answer: Just bags & canisters
Q:
Will this vacuum sealer's lights turn off after inactivity or must it be unplugged?
Answer: Must unplug for all the lights to turn off when inactive

Answer: Theight does come off, but I always unplug when not using
Answer: I'm not sure, I always unplug it and put it away when I'm done.
Q:
Work with Mylar bags?
Answer: Yes it will work with SteelPak mylar vacuum sealer bags that you can buy here on Amazon or directly from the maker: ASIN: B07ZL2GL9M for rolls & ASIN: B087QQVSG8 for 8x12 bags, They are specially made & embossed with a grid pattern to facilitate vacuuming the air out of the bags just like normal vacuum sealer bags. They work great on consumer vacuum seal machines and protect from oxygen and light orders of magnitude better than normal clear, plastic vacuum bags.
Answer: No.
Product reviews of Amazon Basics Vacuum Seal System, Black
SheWoff : This sealer is better than I expected!
My old sealer died and needed a new one before the garden started coming in. My kids got me a gift card for Amazon so I looked and looked, waffling back and forth between a few models and thanks to the reviews, settled on this one. I am so happy I did. The change from the old one is amazing! It was always so loud when sealing that I hated to use it. This one is so quiet that I didn't think it was even working the first time I tried it. It came with a set of extra seals for future use, an extra bag cutter, the vacuum tube and attachment for sealing jars, and a roll of starter bag material. I went ahead and ordered extra bag material with this to make sure I had enough. It works so good just as long as you follow the directions. Make sure you use the wet/dry setting,
I have owned at least 5 different sealers over the years now from the original Food sealer to a clunky old Black and Decker. This one is the best one I have used and I would get another one in the future.
tristan arnold : 9 months of use and it broke????
I really loved the product while it lasted but it only lasted 9 months and stopped sealing....
Amazon Customer : Good deal
We were really impressed by this unit. It is way better than the old Foodsaver it replaced.
Kendra : Its ok
Its ok. The vacuum sometimes doesnt seal and sometimes it will break a seal once it is in the fridge.
Lee Ann : Did not click shut - returned 3 units
Just like another reviewer, I could not get the unit to lock shut, therefore it would not vacuum seal. Ordered a replacement - same issue. While they were very efficient in sending me a replacement, the problem was the same. Finally gave up and ordering a new model for more money.
MamaBear1307 : Waste of money
Did not work. The bags did not get air tight and I tried it with other brands too, but nothing worked. Went step by step tried everything I could, nothing worked. Should have know better and just bought the one I know works.
rmva : Pretty good
First impressions - not bad. After my third FoodSaver died (thanks Jarden!) because now they're made of cheap junk, I decided to try another brand, and I ended up with this one.
It really reminds me of the old FoodSavers, when they were made by Tilia. So far I've only used the vacuum hose attachment (yes, the FoodSaver jar attachment works with this sealer), and it works great. The suction power is good, and the motor is less noisy that my previous FoodSavers. We'll see how it holds up for the next little while.
Amazon Customer : Cheap... Alittle TOO cheap!
Cheap, a little TOO cheap. I have no idea why this is rated so high.
Biggest Complaints:
1) suction power is terrible!
2) the seal is garbage- I recently sealed 5lbs of coffee that I purchased in bulk and they have all become unsealed in less than a week.
Might as well purchase something a little more expensive and get something significantly better.
John Howard : SUPER MACHINE & EASY TO USE
We've had a food vacuum sealer for years, but, it was time to replace it and I'm super glad we did. This machine does everything, including letting you know if something isn't right before the food package is sealed. It also has a great WET / DRY feature for vac sealing different types of food.
An awesome machine with great accessories.
Kimberly wolfer : Beware waste of money
Just keeps going through it cycles, never seals the bag. Never sucks out all the air either. Soon as you manual seal it with the machine air just reinflates the bag. Waste of money.
CGR : hardworking machine
My previous sealer bit the dust right before the beginning of our Summer harvest so I researched an inexpensive sealer to replace it. Covid had just hit so we wanted to be tighter with our money so we wanted a good value. I have always had decent success with Amazon branded products and based on reviews decided to give this one a go.
There was a learning curve to using it because the buttons and functionality were different then my old one. First couple of tries I just could not get it to work properly. I thought I had gotten a dud. Turns out *I* was the dud. lol
So now we are a few months in and I can push buttons in my sleep to get it to work. It is just an easy appliance to use. Simple and basic.
Things I learned, maybe they are common sense, but I learned them recently: I pre freeze things first if they will eventually be frozen. These keeps the juices from steaks, blueberries, greens, etc from getting sucked into the machine. I pack the bags, freeze them overnight, and then seal them in the morning. Easy.
I also have vacuum sealed dehydrated veggies. Works perfectly for these too.
Overall, for the price, this is really a hardworking machine. I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Diane : Great value!
I have been using this vacuum sealer for a few months now. I held off writing my review earlier as I wanted to really put it to the test. I do use it often, and it gets the job done quickly with little effort. The sealer roll area is not quit deep enough to hold larger 25' rolls comfortably. Overall, for the price point, I would buy this unit again, and do recommend the purchase.
DASM : Malfunctioned on first use
I was really excited to order the vacuum sealer because I really love the Amazon Basics products and this sealer comes with an internal roll holder and bag cutter. However, when I received the sealer, it was very difficult to latch in the closed position; in other words, one of the side catches was either not installed properly or was broken right out of the box. The only other thing I didn't care for was that it did not automatically go from vacuum to seal. Instead you had to manually seal every time. It was an excellent price for a vacuum sealer. Hope they get the bugs worked out soon.
MooAndGoo22 : Good for the price
This vacuum sealer is very easy to use. It’s pretty self explanatory. It does however have some issue vacuuming the air and immediately sealing on its own like it’s supposed to. I just push the vac button and then the seal and it works great.
P. Mazo : It works!
First vacuum sealer I've had so I have nothing to compare it to but it works fine for a LOT less than the 'name brands'. I recommend it.
DASM : Malfunctioned on first use

Vanessa : Poorly made doesn’t work
Don’t buy it. Doesn’t work. Exchanged the first one since I just thought it was just a defective one and had spent an hour troubleshooting it. Second one had the same problem. Doesn’t vacuum all of the air out. Poorly made. Waste of money.
Kelly Pagan : So Disappointed
Will not vacuum! Sealer works great but the bag still has a lot of air after using the vacuum option. This obviously becomes quite a problem when the idea is to vacuum and seal for freezer use. Did all troubleshooting options.
Berkley J. Nicholson : Piece of junk. DO NOT BUY!!!!
I have purchased many things from Amazon. However this is the first item I have bought that if I could rate it DO NOT BUY I would.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!
Faye Cherry : Great while it lasted.
If you're looking for an honest review here it is. Work for 11 months. While it did it was great. Came in handy doing these times. The band covering the heat bar gave out it's too thin. Used up quite a bit of bags before I realized it . Customer service did not know that Amazon has a replacement band. I ordered it as soon as I saw it. Hopefully it will work.
Amazon Customer : Good deal
We were really impressed by this unit. It is way better than the old Foodsaver it replaced.
Random person : Works good.
It's very basic, very simple and easy to clean. I made a mistake when first using it. I thought you had to hold the lid down but there are locks on the sides. Push down on the front left and right side and it locks. I found when sealing very liquid food I had to seal the pouch twice, probably normal but it still works just fine. You can get small pre made pouches to save you time on meal prepping. So far this thing has saved me a lot of money and helped save the fish and game I hunt, quality is definitely better vacume packed.
AmazonComsumer_Avg8OrdersAMonth : Poor Quality Control
I Always Buy Amazon Basics.
The Price is Good - and the Quality is generally good.
This is the Exception.
The old Food Saver has a "lever" that locks the Lid in place for sealing and Vacuum.
The Abysmal Amazon Basics Model You Push the Lid down - until it "Locks".
But You can't get it to Lock!
If You watch the Video's - You need to Push Down HARD.
The right side locks EASY. The Left Side NEVER Locks!
If it Doesn't Lock - it can't Vacuum.
...Which is the Whole Point of the Product.
Really Bad Design.
This is going straight to the Trash.
Justin : Bad design flaw ruined a decent product
At first, I loved this, it was helping me free up space in the tiny freezer that we are stuck with, in our apartment that really is only for a family of two but we are a family of 6. Then a few weeks into using it, and the bags started sticking to the heat bar. Then they started melting on the heat bar and being completely stuck. This, of course, was affecting the sealing of the bags thereby defeating the purpose of a vacuum-sealed bag, because to get bag unstuck you had to pull as hard as you could and this of course would tear the seal.
Skip ahead to when I lost my patience went out to a store and bought a different one. Immediately I noticed what the problem with this one had been. The heat bar was ABOVE the Teflon tape not under it like it should have been to prevent said problems. Now I'm 90$ in the hole and even more frustrated with all of this because I had to buy a small one to replace it since now suddenly there's a shortage of sealers everywhere.
Colin : Doesn't Lock into Place to Form a Seal
I was very excited to receive this vacuum sealer, but upon 1st use that excitement quickly faded. I was only able to get one package of ground beef vacuum sealed and even that took about 30 minutes. The locking tabs on the sides of the machine didn't work, but somehow I was able to force it closed with a significant amount of force on top while the machine was running. This was only achieved one time and then after that the machine became useless. I sent the item back the next day. I wouldn't recommend this at all. Spend the extra money on something that will actually work.
charlene L chew : Don't bother with this one
I meant to write this a while ago but I left town and it slipped my mind.
This worked perfectly the first 4 times I used it then it just stopped working. It suctions air out for about 2 seconds which does nothing and then instantly seals it. It is useless to me and I wish I spent a bit more and got a better one.
Fred Hsu : No suction power
This machine and its specs look terrific. Too good to be true, for this price. It seals fine. It cuts fine. But it doesn't do the primary job this machine is for - it has no suction power. I stood in front of this machine like a fool for 20 minutes trying all sorts of ways to get it to completely vacuum a bag. Every time I see a part of the bag shift due I got excited... only to see all indications of suction stop, despite the machine continuing to make noises. I tried to help it by squeezing parts where entire corners are filled with air - that helps a tiny amount. But the machine simply is unable to create a vacuum.
This is not the first machine I've used. I know how they work. Not a user error. This machine simply has no suction power. I returned the product, which is something I rarely do even with products I am not completely happy with.
UPDATED a day after the above:
I returned it, and bought a Food Saver model from a local Costco. While this one works very well, it's several times as expensive. While using the new unit, it dawned on me. Perhaps this was a user error after all. This new unit, like my old ones, has a physical latch/lever/whatever which secures the moving part of the machine to the base, before the machine allows you to do anything (e.g. seal or vacuum). The Amazon Basics one didn't. I just assumed that you had to hold the lid down hard and kept it in place as you hit with your other hand a button to vacuum. Boy, was I wrong. Looking at the online user manual afterwards, I realized that I obviously didn't push the lid down hard enough. It is supposed to click and latch. This probably explains the feeble suction I got. I think this is a design defect. But some may call this a means to get the product made with less money. The machine doesn't have a sensor to detect when the lid is properly latched, before it turns on the vacuum functionality. So I just assumed. Wrong assumption. Since I returned the unit, I can't no longer find out whether it does have adequate suction power. I changed the star rating to 3 from 2.
Jim Kaznosky : Fine for me
There have been reports here regarding slow vacuum. It didn't bother me and works fine for my small household.
Dakota Thompson : Dont buy
It doesn't completely suck all the air out disregard the reviews that says it's great. I've packaged over 200 lbs of meat with it but leaves some air in it
Kimberly wolfer : Beware waste of money
Just keeps going through it cycles, never seals the bag. Never sucks out all the air either. Soon as you manual seal it with the machine air just reinflates the bag. Waste of money.
Coffee Guy : Gasket Failure Makes this a Bad Value
I bought this sealer in September 2020. By January 2021 the original gasket had already failed. I do not use this device heavily--once every 2 weeks--so I was surprised it failed so quickly. The device does come with a replacement gasket--I installed it and it is working perfectly again. I contacted Amazon Customer Support and was informed they do NOT offer replacement gaskets. So when this one fails, I have to buy an entirely new machine. Needless to say, I will not be happy throwing away a working machine for lack of a $2.00(?) gasket.
Shawn Patrick : 5 Star Vacuum Sealer
Works great! I was suspect about the Amazon branded food vacuum sealer, but after using it one time, the hesitation disappeared. It's a competent little machine and I saved some money buying this version rather than the name branded ones being sold. Worth the money, for sure. 5 stars
Chris I. : Press down HARD until you hear a "click" before sealing!
I just received the sealer, and attempted to use it the first time, but it would not scuk out the air. I read the instructions, thought I was doing everything correctly, still no seal.
For Beginners, here is how to make it work:
1: insert end of bag as shown in the instructions
2: close lid (this will engage the latches on either side, BUT it is not yet fully closed!)
3: place your thumbs on the 2 "hand press" symbols on either side of the machine
4: PRESS HARD UNTIL YOU HEAR A CLICK FROM BOTH SIDES
5: press the vacuum button, and let it do its work.
the latches on the side have 2 stages. Hopes this helps.
I owned a Foodsaver that worked for 10 years. This unit is ok, but the foodsaver is better in every respect. when this one breaks, i'll purchase the Fooodsaver in the future.
Henry : Great value
Really great for the price. Very easy to use, dont let some of the negative reviews deter you from trying this out.
Tiffany in PDX : Terrible. Spend a bit more and buy a name brand.
Too good to be true. I was skeptical with the low cost, it turned out to the absolute garbage. Wouldn't suction a single bag. If you're used to using food saver brands, don't waste your time out this thing. It's complete trash. I usually I love Amazon products, this one is definitely not worth your time.
Kindle Customer : DO NOT BUY.
Out of 7 bags I sealed 3 have lost vacuum even though everything was done properly.
KI : Best vacuum sealer for the buck
I have used 4 mm plastic without any issues as well as mylar with with no problems this is the best vacuum sealer I've ever purchased and I have three.
sam : great value
works good have to adjust the open end in the bag at times to let suction work properly but have used it now for a month often . My fressh herbs stay fresh the meat seems to hold up well that is sealed

Susan Higgins : What a cheap knock off
I’ve used Seal a Meal vacuum sealers for years, but in a moment of lack of judgment, I decided to purchase this unit. It is cheaply made, weighs almost nothing, has clunky mechanisms, noisy and takes forever to pull the air out and seal.
Returned it the next day.
Vinnie B. : I really wanted this to work...
Compared to similar models on the Amazon marketplace, I felt that since this had the Amazon Basics name, this would have the best value and reliability. The vacuum sealer came nicely packed and the operation is very simple and straight-forward. The sealer came with an 11-inch wide roll that was of high quality and a vacuum hose accessory. The built in cutter was really well designed and cuts cleanly (Extra blade included). The bag sealer also works well.
Where I had my problem was when I attempted to vacuum seal. Once the lid was snapped into place, the sealer failed to clamp down on the bag hard enough for it to seal effectively. During the vacuum process, I found myself placing my hands on the top of the lid and pressing down with my body weight for it to get a good vacuum. Without placing my weight on it, the unit would continue vacuuming and would never seal due to not reaching a proper vacuumed state. Eventually, it would stop vacuuming. The unit comes with 2 replacement seals, which I tried and did not fix the problem. I'm hoping that this does not reflect on other Amazon Basics branded items. Unfortunately for this one, I will be returning it and will most likely purchase a different brand of vacuum sealer.
MooAndGoo22 : Good for the price
This vacuum sealer is very easy to use. It’s pretty self explanatory. It does however have some issue vacuuming the air and immediately sealing on its own like it’s supposed to. I just push the vac button and then the seal and it works great.

Kelly S : It works if you tap it right
Sides have to have the right tap to close or suction wont happen. Poor design. I don't return things so ill just deal with it.
Vanessa : Poorly made doesn’t work
Don’t buy it. Doesn’t work. Exchanged the first one since I just thought it was just a defective one and had spent an hour troubleshooting it. Second one had the same problem. Doesn’t vacuum all of the air out. Poorly made. Waste of money.
Matthew Miller : Suction dies before the first roll of bags is used up
The suction motor has pretty much died. It sucks for a few seconds to SLIGHTLY reduce the air in the bag and then starts sealing. This happened before I'd used up the first roll of bag material that came with the device. As a bonus problem the latches for locking the lid closed were sticky and problematic from the start, often popping open leaving an incompletely sealed bag. There's a reason this is one of the cheaper vacuum sealers on Amazon. It's garage.
Amber Phillips : Works great!
Love it! We've already gotten our moneys worth. It works great and has lasted longer than our Foodsaver brand one!
Jim Kaznosky : Fine for me
There have been reports here regarding slow vacuum. It didn't bother me and works fine for my small household.
