Answer: It shows kilograms and pounds. It is water resistant, probably not water proof. Have been splashed several times and it's still OK. Even the most expensive scales are not water proof.

Is there a ring on the gripper to hook the scale?

Answer: Yes, there is a knot in the lanyard at the gripper end,please hook under the knot. Please kindly note that the plastic cap is just a gatherer, you can not put tension on it.

How accurate is the scale?

Answer: I compared the readings on this scale with 2.5 pound weights, extremely accurate. I also use it to weigh suitcases before air travel.

Does the gripper float?

Answer: Yes, the lip gripper floats. Very strong lip clamp. I also use it to remove treble hook on head shaking bass.

Answer: Yes, the gripper is made up of a material that floats.

Does this scale drain the battery when not being used?

Answer: I think it does not drain batteries. I have used it almost everyday for several months and it still works great.

Does the lip gripper affect the weight of a fish? If yes, is there a tare button?

Answer: Yes, when you weigh a fish with this combo, the weight is the fish plus the gripper. You can use the tare function, or simply minus the weight of the gripper, 75g/ 2.6oz.

Answer: The gripper does not affect the weighing. The scale has a tare function so you can zero out anything besides the fish (i.e. gripper, bucket, etc.).

Would this scale gripper combo be adequate for weighing a 30-40 lb salmon?

Answer: Does good on 30 lb bass. Not sure about 50 lb fish.

This product is a waste of natural resources.
After receiving it looks alright. It starts, can function and not so glitchy.
During first use, string to plier tool to grip fish breaks and comes loose. So cannot hang heavier fish...

After first use (on land) there is moisture inside the screen (perhaps it rained, cannot remember). After second use, seems still working. Yesterday before using 3rd time, the unit has rusted the measuring tape, back (see pictures) and also the inside battery case is completely rusted. The unit does not start anymore.

Horrible quality and despite being easy to use products like this should be taken off the market. We can do better than this!

The very first time I used it the plastic end cap that holds the cord ends on the fish holder came out off and the cords came out. I tried to put them back in but the end cap wouldn’t hold. The scale is cheaply made overseas and less user friendly than my previous scale.

I bought this to take on a kayaking trip. When I got it it looked to be decent quality. I put the batteries that if case with in and it turned on no problem. Each function worked as expected. The kayaking trip was 4 days long and I had the scale in my backpack instead of my dry bag because it said it was water resistant. Some water had gotten in my bag toward the end of day 1 and when I was hanging it up to dry for the night, I noticed that the scale was on. When I looked closer, there was water in the display part of the screen and it wouldn’t turn off. I ended up unscrewing the back to take the batteries out to get it to turn off and when I opened it... it was all rusted. There hadn’t been a lot of water in the bag and it was completely fried by the time I woke up the next morning. Definitely not water resistant by any means. Sorry for suck a long review but I reccomend paying the extra money and getting a name brand such as Rapala or buying one at Bass Pro Shop/Cabelas.
