Questions about Rapala 4-Inch Bait Knife
Q:
Does this knife float?
Answer: After reading this question, I went into the kitchen, filled the sink with water and put the knife in. It did not float.
Answer: No
Q:
Does the sheath fit tight enough to make a neck knife out of it?
Answer: Yes. Great knife. I bought 2 more.
Answer: 100% Yes.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can one single reviewer out of the 70 reviews that I read please take a second and state where this knife is made???
Answer: Hello. I own this knife and it is made in China. It's stamped on the blade near the hilt.
Answer: The blade says "China"
Q:
Where is this knife made?
Answer: Rapala manufactures in factories located in Finland, France, Ireland, Estonia, and China.
Answer: Rapala manufactures in factories located in Finland, France, Ireland, Estonia, and China.
Q:
One person mentioned that their knife rusted fairly quickly, has anyone else had trouble with rust on theirs?
Answer: Had a little rust issue once. I was younger and thought that stainless steel couldn't rust, so I just put it away wet in a humid storage area in the Caribbean. When I came back a few weeks or maybe a month later, it had a few rust spots that wiped off pretty easily. After that, I just wipe it down with an oily rag or spray it with WD 40 before storing it in humid places. No problems since.
Answer: None whatsoever. Not with this knife.
Answer: Not here. It's pretty rust resistant.
Q:
Will the sheath clip to a PFD lash tab?
Answer: In my opinion this knife is not a carry around. It’s very sharp and designed for cutting and preparing fish. It’s almost like comparing a kitchen knife to a personal pocket knife. They both have there pros and cons. It’s a great knife performs well, however I would hesitate to use it as a tool for anything else. It’s a great sheath and I keep it stored with my cutting board instead of on my person..

Product reviews of Rapala 4-Inch Bait Knife
DeoKeju : If one is to fish at sea - I live in islands in central Pacific Ocean - I highly not recommend this knife
Bait knife? To fish in the lake, yes - but at sea, no ... this knife gets corded or rusted from salt water. If one is to fish at sea - I live in islands in central Pacific Ocean - I highly not recommend this knife.

Love it. Shaper then I expected. Now it's time to go fishing
Ryan : Like it
Good little knife. Arrived in decent time and pretty sharp but I still put the stone to it. Fits nice in my tackle box.
OldiesButGoodies : Great and cheat little knife
Always in my tackle box, this knife is sharp, durable and cheap enough where if I lose it I won't be upset. I clean the blade after a day of fishing and put a little oil on it just to help it past even longer. The handle is very comfortable to hold and grip. I cut squid, minnows and shrimp with it directly on wooden piers and beach rocks, no problem. Holds a edge quite well given the cheap price.
John Jay : Watch out Maihi Maihi
Sharp darn knife-flimsey sheath
Rapala : Perfect for the money
Nice

DaveC : Nice little bait knife
I bought this to cut bait when out on the bay fishing and I don't want to use the whole 'whatever' we are using for bait. This little knife is sturdy and cuts up baitfish, shrimp, squid, etc with ease. Didn't have a problem with gripping it. Nive little bait knife in my opinion.

Alex Serafin : Good knife for price
Purchased to add to my tackle bag. Used a carabiner to attach to the outside of my bag using the last hole of the sheath and it holds great. I would buy this again.

David W Humphrey : Four Stars
Nice knife sharp and handy.
Jesse Meiers : Durable and sharp.
Perfect size. Much sharper than expected, and held its edge after a long weekend of cutting mullet. Highly recommend.
outwest : Great, simple, secure bait knife
A great basic bait knife with a sheath that holds on very well. Arrived sharp and the saw blade on the back is helpful to hack through frozen bait when needed. Love that the sheath clips on to the knife so that the knife does not fall out when it is rumbling around in the tackle box or bucket.
A great buy at a great price
FairweatherNine : perfect knife to keep in the kayak, trunk etc.
I wanted a little "what if" knife to keep in the kayak, you never know when you might have to cut a line or something. It is really cheap looking but I tell you the thing is sharp as heck. I don't know if it will hold this edge but for the price it is just what I wanted. Also like how the sheath has openings for air to dry the knife.
fillycheese : Great fishing and bait knife!!! Sharp and sturdy!
For the price this knife is great! Great boat knife for cutting up bait. Love this setup and the sheath because it doesn't slip out! Comes very sharp and ready to use! Haven't had it rust up on me! but I rinse after every boating trip!!!
Marcus E. Hill : It's a fantastic knife for the price
It's a fantastic knife for the price!! I'm happy that I purchased it. I do wish that the protective cover was a bit easier to take on and off - I suppose they may have designed it that way for a purpose though...
BigB : Five Stars
Well worth the money.
John H. Honey : Five Stars
Great little bait knife, very sharp
Mike D. : Five Stars
Sharp as a razor.
Jorge : Really good knife.
People taking about rust?. no way, I have almost 10 years using this knife in my fishing box. Some times without even clean it after trips. Not rust at all. Hold a good edge. Best bait knife I ever have for a few buks.
Mr. Orient : Good knife

amazon020781 : Not Great for Saltwater Use
Used this knife once and it rusted. I was on a kayak and I made 1 cut into 1 bait fish. Got home 4 hours later and when I went to rinse the blade with fresh water, it already had rust streaks on it. I also have stainless braid cutters and stainless steel fittings on the kayak, none of which had a spot of rust on them. Maybe it would be OK for freshwater, but the stainless steel used in the blade is not up to par in my opinion.

Good little knife for the boat.

Sheath is a little flimsy but a nice snug fit. Worked well for cutting bait and cheap enough I wouldn't worry if I lost it.

Allen Fry : Nice and sharp and cuts well
Exellent. Nice and sharp and cuts well. Cheaper than in store and just as good. ????????????
Ashleigh Box : It's a knife and it will cut things
Sliced open my finger on it trying to get it out of package very easily. Too easily... I may fear this knife now. It'll be able to do what I need it to on the boat very well, I can already tell.
Amazon Customer : Great knife didn't rust from plenty of exposure from the ...
Great knife didn't rust from plenty of exposure from the salt but steel doesn't hold an edge that long needs more carbon in the steel to really hold an edge. Still use it till today tho
Marcus R. Smith : Great sharp knife
Very good bait knife for the price. Very sharp and easy to clean and store. I would highly recommend this knife.
Ryan : Like it

CDP's Onceagain habit of purchasing : Rapala 4-Inch Bait Knife
If you are looking for a good bait knife this Rapala 4-Inch Bait Knife should meet your needs for cutting small bait. If you cut very large bait, possibly a larger knife would be needed. For my needs off my smaller bay fishing boat it is just right. The handle is non slip and the sheath is white plastic also to keep from slicing something in storage. Came very sharp and a ceramic sharpener keeps it that way. I like it a lot!

Muy practico y de buena calidad como es rapala
Daniel Marshall : I love it
Love it, and lost it somewhere on the beach...will be purchasing another one.
Richard S. : Great bait knife for the boat
Excellent bait knife for the boat. I have had mine now for 3 years. The blade holds up well and stays sharp, and the serrated edge comes in handy for chopping chunks of bait when you need it quickly. It will discolor and get small corrosion spots on it, but I fish exclusively in saltwater, and salt is tough on gear. It's cheap, so if it goes overboard you won't be too upset

JNieporte : Good, But Buy Elsewhere
I found this little thing for $4 at my local knife shop. I think that's a fair price, but not a lot more. It's made by Rapala, and is manufactured in China. The model number is RSB4. Let's take a look.
Handle Specifications and Impressions: The handle is white plastic, and is 4.3" long. It has a very light cobblestone texture. There's a lanyard hole in the butt. The guard is very small, but it's there. The butt is also not much, but you still get one. All I can say about this handle is that it's very simple and comfortable. There are no markings. The handle is a bit too small for me, as my thumb rests on the back of the blade when I'm gripping. Other than that, it's a nice comfortable grip. When wet, it doesn't slip as much as I thought it would.
Blade Specifications and Impressions: The blade is made of "Swedish stainless steel" according to the website. Maybe that's 12Cr-something? I have no idea. But it came out of the package very sharp, and was shaving sharp in about 20 seconds on a strop. It's Scandanavian-ground, and is 4" long. The cutting edge goes all the way through to the handle, like a Mora. The back of the blade has 2" of serrations / fish scaler. These are positioned in the middle of the blade spine. They're designed to be a fish scaler, I'm sure, but they're aggressive enough and sharp enough to serve as serrations. The left side fo the blade says "China" on the tang, while the right side has the Rapala logo pressed in. The blade is not flexible, as you'd expect a bait knife to be. But in all reality, that's why I bought it. This knife feels like a Mora, and until they make a Mora with serrations on the back like this, I'll be buying these. The blade didn't require much resharpening, but to tell the truth, I didn't abuse it much either.
Sheath Specifications and Impressions: The sheath is white plastic, just like the handle. It's 4.5" long, with a .75" piece that slides over the guard to hold the knife in place. The sheath is also skeletonized. I hate this, but I understand why it's there: to let water escape and not rust your knife. There's a lanyard hole in the end. Unfortunately, there's no belt slot. This knife was made to be thrown into your tackle box. Also, the little plastic piece that holds the knife in the sheath seems like it will snap off with extended use. I hate the sheath; I feel that it was poorly executed just because of that little piece. If it snaps off, then you have a safety issue, as the knife won't stay in the sheath without it.
Imagine the piece snapping off. You don't care because this is a $4 knife, so you throw it in your tackle box. You reach in later, and get a nice gash in your finger / fingers because you forgot the piece broke off. Not good for your fishing trip.
This is a nice knife, especially for the money, but the sheath makes me want to throw it away and improvise one from leather. It's still worth a look if you need a sharp "disposable" knife that you won't break the bank by losing.
