Will these work with a 7/8 weight fly rod

Answer: A 7/8 weight rod could be a bit overkill, but you can easily cast the largest of the popper in the package. I have been using these poppers on a 5wt rod and they work fine.

Answer: I am not sure. I use them with a very lightweight spinning rod and reel and 4 pound fluorocarbon line. I use a plastic bubble bobber for weight. These are very lightweight floating flies - and probably use lightweight rods, fly lines, and tippet. They are about 1 inch long with the feather tails. You will probably want to go with lighter gear.

These poppers sink after a few fly casts. They will float at first and then stay a couple inches below the surface.

I gave these 2 stars because I caught 6 bluegill and a smallmouth bass on the smaller red popper but that action took all of the red paint and both "eyes" off the fly. You will be repainting these poppers. The attractor design of these poppers does work well

Unfortunately these plugs ended up being just another example of poor quality when buying cheap crap made in China, again. U would think I'd learn by now. White plug in pic not even painted all the way. They don't float too well, riding too low in water, also became waterlogged even. Tried applying fly floatant gel & still no better. Caught fish though, causing paint chipping off immediately & no weed guard either. Cheap garbage

Took these to NW MI for a trip that included fishing a small river from a kayak. Was pleased with their performance on the water. Good product for a reasonable price.

Disappointed : Not as advertised

Very disappointed. Would have sent back the poppers if it wasn't so much trouble. Supposed to have been "PAN FISH" poppers, actually way too huge for any pan fish I ever saw and way too big for the size fly rod they were supposed to be used with.

Work great at catching sunnies on a tenakra rod. Wish there were more brighter patterns, like yellows and bright greens. Already broke off one hook tip while crushing the barb for catch n release. They stay on the surface for the first few casts, then start to sink to about an inch below.

Not great popping action and don't float well enough for a popper/dropper, but are ok. They float and will catch fish.

First time using a popper. Used a couple today on a fly rod and spinning rod. Obviously cant cast very far on the spinner but the bass were hitting right off the shore. My son and I had tons of fun using these and catching bass and bluegill. Huge fan of poppers now.

This poppers is really a sunfish killer. I have used it a dozen times and can catch a lot of fish every time. With this popper, I even caught 56 fish in the fishing spot near my house for 3 hours, with blue gills and black bass. It is also very effective for squid in the creek. Its unique design makes the fish attack very aggressive. And it is easy to throw the position of the target fish. Compared with other products, I think it is very cost effective. If you like to use top water flies, I highly recommened this one!

RF : Low quality don't float

Might be useful little bugs depending on what you're looking for, but they do not float well enough to act as a real popper. They're also pretty low quality. The paint started coming off the red one almost immediately after it's first use. They being said I did get a couple bites the first time I tried. So they might work depending on how aggressive your fish are, but they're not really usable as poppers
