Mine will not get over 210 on high is it defective or am I doing something wrong
Answer: I register 220 on the outside of the smoker with my heat gun at the very lowest point closest to the element. Cooking grates are 210 and 200 as I move closer to the top. Mine runs hotter than the original element by 20 degrees at the bottom. Little bit of variation with ambient temperature but not much.

Answer: I have an analog Masterbuilt Smoker and It was not a direct fit. I had to drill two new holes where the element fastens to the wall of the smoker and supply two longer screws to make it fit. With these modifications it works well.

Answer: I believe with a bit of modification. Dimensions of unit are in advertisement . My bolt holes didn't match up so I drilled new holes and installed new bolts. Worked well for me am now able to hear and hold unit over 200 degrees.

Answer: It probably will but you should know the regulator is not marked in degrees, just a color scale. You have to use other temperature measuring devices to determine the temp. I have it turned up about 3/4 of the way to get 225.

Answer: If by regular grill you mean a BBQ grill then No, this requires a special ac adapter that is mounted outside the grill and does not provide the kind of direct heat that a regular grill burner does. If you are trying to convert a propane SMOKER than ... Possibly, but you would still need the ac adapter plug and a cutout modification in the side or the smoker which would not likely be cost efficient.

Answer: If you are referring to the temp control Knob I the unit I'm not sure if it will melt, but I do know in my application it can get over 220 degrees and I wouldn't want to grab it to make temp adjustments. I wouldn't recommend leaving the whole unit in the grill.
Answer: The temperature controller disconnects from the heating coil. It sits outside the grill/smoker during the operation. The heating coil is attached inside the grill/smoker to the side wall with an opening to give access to the controller to connect to the heating coil.

I bought this to be the heating element in my cerakote oven I built. I find it works but wish it put out a little more heat which may simply be that I should have bought a larger unit for the size oven I built. The oven is about a 27" cube made of 1/4" steel so its pretty large and has a lot of metal to heat but even with all that it still gets about 265 degrees. I would think that in a smoker grill where it actually belongs it should do just fine. You will want to have a thermometer to go with it though because the heat control is only a dial from low to high without any temp settings (makes sense in my application). Overall I'm quite happy with it and would recommend you give this item a look.

Another person stated that it didn't heat up to 400 degrees, but I wired it into an oven larger than what it was meant for and heated it up to 400 degrees in about 20 minutes. My IR thermometer was reading the polished steel at 300 degrees and the non polished side at 350.

Original dial burner controller burnt up inside and failed after just one year. This replacement assembly was very easy to install. used 2 self tapping screws to secure from inside the smoker. Total installation time was 5 minutes. Able to achieve 350 degrees with the new burner and smokes the wood chips properly even at 200 degrees

Been trying to smoke ribs today. After letting the smoker warm up for 1 1/2 hours decided to put the ribs on cause I was running out of time. Temp was only at 205 degrees. Temp dropped to 140 degrees when I took the lid off. I went back an hour later and the Temp was 91 degrees. Finally after 3 1/2 hours the temp is 199 degrees. Needless to say we won’t be having ribs tonight dinner. Says in the description it should get to 450 degrees in 5 hours the highest I have had was 205 degrees.
